As other reviewers have stated…"What a JOKE" and this thing is indeed a "DUMPSTER FIRE!" My son and I were so excited to build this only to find the gingerbread was hard as a rock and you had to break them apart, which I knew would end terribly…and it did. Even with the sharpest knife, I carefully attempted to cut them apart only to find them breaking all over the place and crumbling. I don't know why these had to come stuck together. That's just stupid! If you're even lucky enough to break them all apart and they do stay together, the houses are so TINY and of course, there's never enough candy and frosting. The frosting was separated and looked spoiled. The houses were all stuck together and was difficult to separate each house from the other. The pieces were not consistent in size, this made it very difficult to build and put together. The gingerbread did not taste good and the candy tasted bad as well, my kids refused to eat them and threw the left over candy away. Do not buy this set. Images given on package GROSSLY overstate the amount of icing you receive in kit. You get maybe a quarter of what you think you get, and that is pushing it. I loved that this was pre-made. Building a gingerbread house every year for 2 kids is my own version of a nightmare. This was the first time I got to ENJOY the gingerbread houses because I didn't have to make them. This was also very large (which I was not expecting for the price of it). It is very sturdy (kid proof by a 3 year old constantly poking it). It came with a large tube of white icing. This is the first time I saw pre assembled gingerbread houses and I immediately bought them. Building the gingerbread house using a kit and asking young children to wait to decorate is ludacris. These need to be available every year! I usually buy the pre-assembled gingerbread from another store, but this year it got broken after we took it out of the box and the other store was all sold out. Luckily Target had these, and it was perfect. Very sturdy, easy to decorate, and no need to fumble with assembly. | Directions | Step (1): Massage icing pack until icing feels smooth and consistent inside. To start the flow of icing, cut a small opening at one of the corners of the icing pouch. I bought this gingerbread house kit to build with my 3 year old grandaughter. The idea of having slots in the tray to hold up the sides appealed to me. It was amazing. No waiting for the pieces to stick together. The pieces came unbroken and there was plenty of candy. The frosting was the perfect consistency and we had plenty of candy. This kit comes with everything you need to make a gingerbread house without too much effort or mess. Critically it comes with a plastic stand to mount the walls of the house which really help hold it all together. There’s no preparation needed – it’s all ready to assemble – which made for the perfect craft project in my daughter’s first grade class. I’m a cake decorator. This kit was pretty easy to put together with my kid who is under 5. The frosting you knead for about 30 seconds and wahlah it’s perfect for piecing together. My assumption is the people struggling with this kit probably didn’t cut a big enough hole in the tip, didn’t unscrew the top or let their icing get too hot. It was a breeze and I didn’t read any instructions just the one for the roof holder which wasn’t necessary needed. You do want the icing thick enough the hold the pieces together. One layer was enough for mined or my daughters to stay together. As previous customer stated the icing didn't hold anything together, everything melted off the house in drips and the supposed roof addition to help you hold the roof in place did absolutely nothing. We were shorted the tiny balls. The two icing tips were way to big to have the icing come out as small and thin as you need it to. Not enough icing to work with. Had 2 buy 2 more cans of frosting and the beads you see in this we had to buy extra because we were shorted them. This works great I guess if you use glue and you have tiny hands and are a heart surgeon because this is the smallest house I have ever seen!Mary
From the start it was garbage. Frosting bag popped a seam but I still tried to work with it by closing the bag and using the busted seam. The icing didn't stick to anything let alone hold it together very well. Sprinkles just rolled off the icing. The icing was just dripping off everything. The roof holder didn't do squat. Love this Wilton Build-It-Yourself Gingerbread Manor Decorating Kit! It's larger and much more interesting of a shape than most gingerbread houses and it looks really impressive once it's fully assembled! Also, for being larger, it's still super easy to assemble and I didn't have any difficulty. Love the added touch of the gingerbread men as well. I bought mine in-store and only had one small piece broken. I've gotten a few of these over the years and the number one thing I suggest is to forget the frosting that comes with it. Make your own royal icing. It'll hold 100x better. The candy that comes with it is a bit lacking so I bought some extra stuff to make it my own. Overall, an okay kit.
