This is my second purchase of this door for my cat. Overall, a decent product. First one, the cover was rather loose, but worked. The second one, the cover was too tight, could NOT get it off, not even by prying all around the flap area and edges. Finally, in frustration, I called Petsafe to see if I'd done something wrong. Was told there have been some complaints, that I could try cutting it off and they are sending me a new cover. I bought a petsafe pet door fourteen years ago. I live where it gets to a hundred and ten or more in the summer. After seven years the plastic flap warped and so I bought a replacement flap. It has been another seven years and again the flap is warped but they no longer make the replacement flap for the xlarge classic door. For the price the pet gate was alright however, the description mentions that the gate will fit openings up to 39 inches and while it might possibly fit the opening, it is quite loose and could be knocked down. Both my roommate and I have medium/large dogs and I also have a cat. Then my wife noticed the patio screen door track was close to the same width s the Patio Pacific. I purchased the Endura Flap – Quick Panel III Patio Pet Door – Extra Large in Bronze. I have a Shepherd and an Australian Cattle dog. The large would have been fine, but my Shepherd is an old man, and I wanted it to be as easy as possible on him. They were accustom in using their nose to open the flap with their old doggie door (home made, by me), but this one took more energy and strength and they were not sure about using it. After reading the advice of taping down the metal thresh bar, which help reduce the magnetic hold, that helped a lot. They only had a few days to get use to it before my leaving on a 2 week trip, but they did fine and I kept the tape on. When my next trip came up two months later, I put the door back up in the track and I took the tape off, and they didn't have any trouble at all. Even my older cat likes to use it. In fact he was the first one to open up the flap before I put the tape down. Are we speaking "Intelligence" here? My younger cat, 1 yr old, doesn't even attempt using it, which is fine with me. The door is very easy to put up. I'm a 68 year old female, and did it myself. It matches my bronze sliding door, and I'm very pleased with how it looks. This is an AWESOME dog door solution. We purchased ours in 2011 and it works great. INSTALLATION: Iām not handy so we had a carpenter install the door. It wasnāt a problem for him. We live in an old house so rather than cut the original 1920 door, we bought a door from Home Depot. TRAINING OUR DOGS:: It didnāt take long for our dog to learn how to exit the house and reenter the house. WHY I LIKE IT; Versus a flappy cheap plastic doorā¦this has two major advantages (1). More secure. For a large door, a flappy door can be easily broken into (just crawl in!) where this door would require force and would set up an alarm, and (2). Very weatherproof. The seal is tight, so hot air (summer) and cold air (winter) doesnāt continuously lead in. So there is a comfort and a cost savings factor. DURABILITY: In 7 years (Our dog uses the door about 5x a day, so that is about 13,000 up/downs!) we have had 3 issues. The incredible customer service person (Deidre, who has worked there for about 20 years) is extremely knowledgeable. She walked us through one problem in less that 5 minutes. She helped us fix another problem which took about 20 minutes. And the third issue required a new circuit board which under warranty was free (and out of warranty about $80) and once we received it, took about 15 minutes to install. My wife and I used to work at Purina for 17 years and 12 years respectively, so we know alot about dogs and cats. Our jusdgement is this door, although costly up front, is very well worth it. We had been looking for an alternative to cutting a hole in our wall and this is perfect. It installs easily into our track and the weatherstripping worked great to fill any gaps. Only downside is it takes up half your entry space to go in and out. Not a problem for us but if you have large individuals that need to go in and out it could be a problem. We had a door at our other house so it only took a couple days for our dogs to get use to the sound of the flap on this one. I have purchased two of these dog doors now. The first was the sash window door which was awesome. At the time I was living in Wyoming which has tremendous winds. Other doors wouldn't stay closed in the wind but the Endura Flap prevailed! Now I've moved to Alaska and didn't have a window that would work as a dog door so I bought the sliding glass door model. Just like it's window option, this dog door is top notch. I was using some other brand of sliding door dog door and it was letting so much cold air into the lower level of my house that I avoided going down there, which was annoying since half of the house is down there. Now that the Endura Flap door is in, there's a little cold air leaking in behind the sliding door, but it is LEAGUES better than it was. We looked at a lot of doors before we decided on the Endura flap thermo door. It was more expensive that the others, but in my opinion it is well worth it. Installation was easy, although our door was not plum so it took some time to adjust it.(not the doors fault) First night we realize a lot of cold air was seeping thru the back panel of the slider, we tried to put the weather striping on but it did not work very well. I give that a 2. We took black packing foam and cut into strips to wedge between the door and the glass worked very well and does not look to bad, also put some around the doggie door where the space was from not being level. TRAINING was very easy…we took the magnets out of the bottom as the video showed. It took a some muscles and finesse the first time then was easy the next time. Took treats outside, some inside, and our 8 month old lab got it on the second try. Dew to cold and wind after a couple of days we put the magnets back in and she went thru very easily. This is going to be my 3rd or 4th door and second to purchase (the sizable hole is hard to find a replacement for), most EVERYONE has had the exact same broken and weak point of the hinge. Some of these comments are from long enough ago, you would think that the company would look at the common problems and try and fix the issue. I've had this door for a year now, and after a year of modifying, and remodifying, I give. Simply not a great door for strong dogs. Our doberman broke the door out initially, it was put back in place. The 2nd time he broke it out some of the plastic fasteners broke off. My SO ended up modifying the door with an aluminum strip and all new hardware. It's been broken off several times even with the new modifications. The key backs fall off and we didn't end up using them anyways to begin with. The frame is solid, we got the wall kit which is flimsy and had to seal ourselves but nonetheless it's installed. I'd love to order another model that will fit the already permanent opening. As of current, our heat's turned off until we figure out what to do to fix the door. It's not strong enough for large dogs, they bust it right out!Bunnyfromdahood
Purchased the door about a month ago. We have 4 dogs ranging in size from 6.5 lb to 60 lb. All of them use the door even the little guy. The big dog did not need any training at all he instinctively new when it went click he could go! I was concerned about the reviews but it seemed to me that these were all very large dogs by height and the photos of the installs seemed low to me. I would recommend the product. No more getting up two or three times a night. YAAA I installed it myself, granted I am more of a handyman than most, but I am also over the 65 mark +. So I would expect the young bucks to do it even faster. But you do need to have a supply of the D cells. Batteries are not what they used to be and you only get about a month or a little less use. I looked around and this is the only pet door with the option for buying an extension in the middle. We have thick block wall and drywall which made the "tunnel" length a little over 10". We used this door for our cats and bought the extender tunnel. Placed the door high so the dogs dont bother them. Bought the wall unit. Surprised the plastic was so thin. Assembled fine but the two pieces are not snug and I had to put screws thru the plastic sides and into the wall The rubber flaps hang with 5 little screws and just normal use by two dogs had the flaps half off in two weeks. SO cheaply made. Iām stuck with this unit for now but will search for one from another company that is made better. I would have preferred to have a sensor to open and close the opening for my dogs since they are so scared of everything that after 2 weeks I still have to push it open for them. It's a great door however it doesn't completely interlock with my sliding door. It also could use more weather stripping. However on a side note the flap works grate, it looks great. It's a okay product, the only thing I didn't like was the center pieces you had to cut to match the thickness of the door. I installed two of these dog doors and the first one I cut the pieces to the thickness of the door like the instructions said and they where to narrow to stay in place once the dog door was assembled, on the second dog door I cut the pieces about a 1/2 wider then the thickness of the door so that the center pieces would seat in the frame of the dog door and stay in place after assembly.mikdd65

I installed this and immediately wasn't happy with it. The plastic screws are useless. The flap itself is flimsy, flexes, and never forms a decent seal. The magnet isn't strong enough to hold it in place and fell off within weeks. The bad seal lets in bugs and wind. I'm now left with a terrible draught which makes heating and cooling the house a continual struggle.Bero
Installation instructions are lacking. Installation took over 8 hours. If you decide to get this door which I don't recommend do get some 6mm thread bolts (that need to be at least the width of your door) before you leave Bunnings. I can understand why the maker has provided plastic bolts as they are designed to be cut off but the plastic is no where near sturdy enough to do the job of holding in this door. If you do buy it do yourself a favour and don't use the plastic screws at all they are useless/strip and the X for use with a screwdriver/drill strips out also making them even harder to remove. When cutting out the hole to the template size part of the dog door will not sit in the recess. You need to cut this slightly larger, but be very careful as the holes you need to drill to put the bolts through are WAY too close to this hole to have proper purchase in the door. Cutting the inserts yourself is a nightmare (instructions say to cut with scissors, this is a joke as it's so tough) I had trouble cutting this even using my Chicken shears, normal scissors won't do the job. Once this is installed the flap doesn't actually seal fully from weather and wind but will keep the flies out. There have to be better/easier doors to install.Jill & Brian
We bought this last weekend. We read the instructions carefully and were nervous at first cutting through our expensive screen door. My husband used the angle grinder to cut around the supplied template. It was so easy following the instructions. It took 1 hour. A great price too. We had previously bought and installed a medium sized through-wall door from Petco, and our Pugs loved it; but now we have a 4 month old Bull Mastiff puppy who is already 40lbs., and was almost struggling to get in and out of the medium sized door. The answer was simple: upgrade to a LARGE size door, and now our fuzzy kids go flying through it without even slowing down…even the Bull Mastiff. It's hilarious!! We expect her to grow to around 125Lbs. and 24" tall at the shoulders, and we aren't sure what we'll do at THAT point, but we have a year or so to think about it. š I would very highly recommend this PetSafe pet door, and Petco had the best price.Burner01
Had one of these for about ten years and bought a new one. One of our dogs damaged the old one by trying to run in when the panel was inserted to keep him out while a worker was in the house. This broke two of the screws away from the plastic frame. Even though it says aluminum pet door, the only aluminum part is the white door frame. The brown frame around it is plastic as is the wall tunnel. Since we now needed to replace the flaps, it costs just as much to get a whole new one as it did to replace the flaps. Now for the new one – Had it installed for less than a month and spring loaded knob on insert panel is broken (called for free replacement under one year warranty). Door panel flap lengths are adjustable, but don't seem as thick (and durable) as old ones. If this hadn't been a replacement project of an existing one, not sure if I would have decided to install this one or look at other options.AZTom

I received my pet door in less than a week from the time of order. While the instructions were clear as to how to complete installation, I had a handyman install the door. It fits very well and the soft flap consistently grabs the magnet at the bottom of the opening. It does make a sound when it grabs and this startles my two cats. I have the flap off now while trying to train them to use the door. The door is for internal use (for the cats to go to the basement to use their litter boxes). Would be nice to be able to remove the magnet and also to have an option for a 'softer' flap for internal use.im4everhopeful

Only once, with high winds, have I caught it not closing completely. There is no draft and it is so secure! Worth every penny! This is a great product. We've bought two over the years for two different houses. Even after four years of use, it they were in almost perfect condition. This is a made in America product. The double flaps, magnets and side sweeps do an excellent job of insulating. It also is a relatively quick, easy installation with the self-framing tunnel. My dogs absolutely love the new dog door. It took a little longer to train them to go through both doors, but now they go right through it with no problems. Both dogs were already housebroken, but still had an accident every once in a while. But since they are using the dog door, we haven't had one accident. My Husband and myself were disappointed in this wall kit unit….It didn't fix well in the insulated dog flap door which was to be used with….We need tthis because we were putting dog door in a outter wall 6 inches thick….but the wall kit is to small all the way around the inner wall for the insulated doggie door….Very disppointedis in this product….mybabiesgirls
Berlin doubled her weight from 64 to 142 pounds since her rescue at nine months old and will be 3 years old in March. I had already installed a Ruff Weather door, large ten years ago when Liala (german shepard) was rescued at 4 months old, now 10 years old. now all I have to do is inlarge the weith and height from 7"w x 15h to 15"w x 23"h but with the out side temp being 30 to 50 degrees. I estimate 3 hours remodel when the weather gets warmer (next month). Walmart must have just resently just started selling dog doors and wall tunnels.? I have no worries, this will be an easy upgrade, a wall dog door looks 100% more professional than a door installed dog door even when installed by an amature. Read and re-reread the instructions first important before starting, and make small probe holes the stucco or insde wall before final cutting to check for elecrical wiring and water lines for your safety.Raeww
