Once I received this harness I used it for about a week before leaving this review and I must say my dog has never enjoyed harnesses but she didn't seem to fuss with this one and she has in the past. I think the reason for that is it's very comfortable it's very light and I love to support that goes across the back and it handles the dog very well. Now I will remember for future reference to get the next size up next time I buy because I do think it's a little tight on her but that is my problem for picking the wrong size. I have a 106# German Shepherd. She has never worn a harness. After getting it fitted to her, which is fairly easy, she seemed o.k. with it. The harness is well made and sturdy. It held my dog well. The only drawback I found is that the cross piece with the d-ring you hook your leash snap to does not stay in place on top of dogs’ back. It slides to the side of the dog making it uncomfortable for the dog while walking. It also leaves no control for the owner. I had to stop every few steps to reposition the strap on top of her back. If this issue is resolved it will be a great harness! I received this as a promotional item.JLR53
This harness is very well made and designed well. Unfortunately the XL size did not fit our dog, who weighs about 70 lbs. It is unfortunate because she really liked it. This works better than a collar on my 90 lb.German Shepherd/Lab mixed dog. He loves to go on walks but starts wanting to track scents along the way and pulling on me to go off the trail. I have an Alaskan Malamute, a relatively small one at 60-65 pounds, but if you are not familiar with the breed I'll tell you that they are the freight pullers of the sled dog breeds. That means that they are not exactly fast but they are strong, and they love to pull. I have, however, managed to partly train my dog to walk on a leash, it's just not always as much fun as it should be. We already have a sled pulling harness but it won't work for walking so I decided to try the Vibrant Life X-Large Comfort Padded Step In Harness and see if it might make things a little easier on me and a lot more fun for both of us. We've been using the harness for about a week now and I really do think it's been a success. We've been walking about a half mile and I'm coming home with arms and back a lot less sore. Pros: Easy to take on and off the dog. Has only one big plastic snap which is on the back/top of the harness. Nicely padded over all of the straps. The leash hooks to two metal D-rings above the snap which takes the pressure off of something plastic and onto stitched seams and metal. Stitching seems to be pretty good. Is adjustable for a wider range of sizes. The strap fabric/webbing is not scratchy or stiff. Cons: Can be a little confusing at first to adjust the size. The straps with the D-rings for attaching to a leash can sometimes slide in between the main straps causing a little confusion when snap ends and D-rings no longer line up. So far I'm pretty happy with the Vibrant Life X-Large Comfort Padded Step In Harness and I think my dog is too. I like that this harness isn't choking my dog like the regular collar was, it grips him by the upper mid section and I can only assume it's much more comfortable for him. I like that the medium harness is soft material. I don’t like is the adjustments are located in the underneath of the pets stomach. This is a very well made dog harness. I had a problem with my 7 mo. old Golden Retriever whenever I put a leash on her. After days of running free on my 60-acre hobby farm, she would fight the pull of a normal leash. I put the harness on her and let her run and get used to it for a few days. Then after hooking up the leash it wasn't a pull on her neck that she didn't like but it was a pull on her body and she didn't pull back at all. I also put the harness on my other dog who is terrified of thunder and he seemed much calmer during the last thunderstorm. Definitely 5 stars from me.Countrydude
Normally it’s hard to get a harness for my 100 pound pup without having him be able to try it on right there and then. But I went by the chest girth and it really did fit perfectly, the handle is a bit small, I hope I don’t have to yank my boy by the handle. But beyond that, it fit perfectly. The color looks great. I like it. It worked well even though it is mesh. If comfortable for the pup and he isn’t being choked. It’s a good harness.Smiley1112

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this new dog harness. It is lightly padded at the tummy section which has to make it comfortable for my Shihzhu. The straps that attach it to her body are strong and very securely sewn into place. My dog is very easily distracted and is very hard to control during walks. I am afraid to put undue pressure on her while walking her with just a leash for fear of cracking any of her small neck bones; therefore she is pretty much walking me where SHE wants to go. While wearing the harness, she is easily controlled with a slight tug in the direction you want to move. The pressure is aimed at the middle to upper body rather than the neck. She loves the harness and likes to wear it during her nap after walks. I have to hide it from her because if she sees it, she gets excited and wants to go. This is a great harness for the money — lots of positives in terms of durability, comfort and looks and the sole negative is a design quirk that you can easily fix (or not — the dog doesn't give a hoot)! Pluses: • Durable, heavyweight fabric that is breathable because of the weave (for comfort) with plenty of synthetic (washes well). • Thick, adjustable straps. This is a practical harness for hard-playing dogs, not a fashion statement for purse puppies. • High quality findings. The plastic snap buckles are larger gauge than is typical at this price. The D-rings are welded, which is very important (otherwise a strong dog might pull them apart). • Padding — enough for a bit of comfort but not so much it gets sodden in the rain. Minuses: • The harness packaging correctly lists all of the information you need to know in order to obtain the right harness size for your dog. Unfortunately for those who aren't buying at the store, the Walmart website does not. If you are buying Medium, it fits dogs with a chest girth of 20-to-27 inches, which is all you need to know. Walmart.com only provided the neck measurements (and it got the neck measurements wrong — this harness fits a broader range of necksizes than 17-to-20 inches). Note: If you are used to ordering one size up to be safe, you probably shouldn't with this company. Most manufacturers would consider a dog with a 27-inch girth to be a Large or even Extra Large dog, but this harness would fit him. • The piece of the harness that connects the neck collar to the chest strap isn't affixed to the collar (it is threaded through it, like a belt loop). If you have a wiggle-butt kind of dog, the perpendicular strap from the collar to the chest strap will slide around and get kind of diagonal. This does not bother the dog or impede his movements in any way but if it bothers you, you can tack it down with a grommet or a couple of stitches. Neither Positive Nor Negative: If you order the color listed as "Red" it has a good deal of orange in it. (This is a plus for me as my favorite color is orange, but if you are buying the harness to match a true red collar and lead the match will be slightly off).brassy
