I have a 7 year old boxer dog who loves just about any new toy I bring home to him. I thought the Tug-A-Jug would be a great addition to his toy collection, and help keep him busy trying to figure out how to get the treats out of the jar. The jug easily unscrews from the bottom giving you a good size opening to add treats into the jug, but you do either have to keep the jug tilted or cover the opening at the top of the jug where the treats fall out of. The bottom of the jug easily screws back on securely. The jug itself it a hard, thick plastic, making it pretty heavy and bulky to lug around. After giving my boxer, Diesel, the Tug-A-Jug, he immediately wanted to go crazy with it and fling it around! This could cause damage to object indoors or even a person if you happened to be struck with it, due to the weight and size of the jug. We immediately had to take it away from him and only let him play with outside. After the initial excitement Diesel had with receiving a new toy, he noticed the treats but could not figure out how to get them out of the jug. We showed him several times that the treats fall out of the top of the jug around the rope. He no longer wanted to fling the toy around, now he just wanted the treats out. We tried and tried relentlessly to show him how to get the treats but we had no luck. He will now just bring us the toy and whine, hoping we will wiggle the rope and release some treats out on the floor. The Tug-A-Jug is a cute toy with a great concept, but its just too big and bulky. If you have a dog that loves to shake and fling their toys around, I would not recommend this one.Penny K
I have two dogs that I gave this toy to, one a 4 year old very energetic and playful Doberman. She became frustrated very quickly as the opening for the treats to fall out is very small due to the rope at the top. After a while she simply gave up and played with something else. My other dog is a senior mixed breed dog that does not play with toys long but generally will play with a new toy. She did not even touch this one. Unfortunately this item was a miss with my two which is disappointing as it seems to be rugged and able to withstand some doggy punishment.slr825
My dog does not usually play Tug-of-War so I was hoping the Tug-A-Jug would help her understand the game more. Unfortunately my pup was never able to catch on to the purpose of this toy. Instead of playing with the jug my dog smells the treats and sits down to wait for a command. Perhaps if your dog is already accustomed to tug games they will get more use out of this product than my dog did. In general the toy seems too big for any kind of small dog, and even my 100lb American Akita didn’t want to lug the thing around. This is a terrific enrichment toy, my dog loves grabbing the rope and flings it all around the yard. But that causes the plastic to break off in shards. If it was made from rubber or a less breakable plastic to allow flinging on hard surfaces without breaking that would be great! Filling it is super easy.Laurene

My puppy LOVES this toy, though it took a few days of me trying to entice him before he got the gist of how to play with it to get food. Honestly, it's a bit annoying for me (especially in meetings) because it can be quite loud in my small apartment with him rattling it around and knocking it into walls, BUT to see him so happy having to work for his food is great. Purdey's new Tug-a-Jug is a replacement for her old one that she has loved with a passion for several years. It is her favourite 'toy' and she regularly finds where I have hidden it, brings it to me and looks so sad that I have to put biscuits in it. I'm shocked by the surprising amount of poor reviews for this toy. We have a Cane Corso, Staffy, Great Dane mix who absolutely loves to tug and chew, not to mention weighs 95 pounds and is as strong as an ox. We got her this toy when she was 4 months old, and only just replaced it after 2.5 years of intense (and I mean INTENSE) tugging, both with humans and other dogs. You could tell me this toy was made of titanium and I wouldn't even question it, sometimes I'd swear you could tow a car with it. Our 32 lb. beagle is now 21 months old, and still very much a playful pup. I have lost count of how many large Jolly Tugs we have bought, but 10 is a good estimate! Remnants of multiple destroyed Jolly Tugs litter the house and yard, still objects to chew, or be chased when thrown. Eventually the destroyed Jolly Tugs make it to the trash and we treat her to a brand one for renewed excitement. While I can understand negative reviewers complaints that their dog(s) destroy the toy in short order, we appreciate that the toy is the object of our pup’s destructive tendencies rather than our furniture or our shoes. My little pupper loves this toy and so do I. My dog really enjoys the squeaker and keeps him entertained even when I cannot play tug-a-war with him. I really like the durability of the product. Most tug toys are made with some kind of rope and my guy tends to pull them apart within a few days. This is great and he hasn't destroyed it yet. Would highly recommend this toy.Pallavi

We found this on sale at Petsmart and honestly expected it to last maybe a day. It has been a few months now, and it has held up via my husky mix very well. She did manage to expose some interior rope, but you supervise and discourage (A quick "no" and show where/how to use it). Currently my husky mix loves either thrashing it to make it make sounds, or playing tug with my collie mix. I am very happy with this and would absolutely recommend it.

Lady loves this little ball. It isn't much bigger than a tennis ball, but I think the handle helps keep her from accidentally swallowing it. She does like to chew on the handle, which doesn't seem as resilient as the rest of the ball. Overall it is an excellent bouncing ball and she can really chew on the ball with no damage. It is hollow with a hole in the bottom, I guess for tiny treats, but it seems to help make the ball more flexible. I still have small Jollyballs I bought years ago that were more of a hard plastic, this is definately not that.PiratePrincess

This is (was) our second monkey ropetugz. Our puppy LOVED this toy, in fact loved it to its final demise. We were convinced it was a great toy so I ordered a replacement. He whimpered with delight when he was given his new friend, long lost. Number 2 however wasn't as sturdy and the rope has started to unravel. I am still trying to work out if I can repair it and he is missing his monkey friend greatly.Denise

A great tug of war toy but also for any dog that likes to chew throughl. My only caveat is that the loops (while good for holding during play), represent a bit of a hazard–especially if your dog is a chewer. I have a 1y/o 70lb Golden Retriever and while he doesn't sit and chew to destroy, he is a puppy and chewing is a part of playing. Having said that, the monkey stayed together but the rope was short lived. As soon as your dog gets a tear or fray in the rope, they learn they can pull it apart. My dog did not eat it, as he just disentangled it, but for others, this could potentially cause a stomach ache or blockage if eaten.kaitlyn.c
