Instructions were good but brief, missing some smaller details on placement of blocks, also short you about 6 pieces of wood that need to be cut making the process a little confusing. Also had to bend the tabs for the front door to fit on the wood frame since they were bent inward. Please be aware that this product will take weeks to get. Bass Pro advised an arrival date, and that date came and went. I contact them, and they advised if you scroll down it states that it is a drop ship item. So it was in the fine print, but should be shown during checkout/shipping. Bass pro advised that I would just have to wait, and nothing I could do to track it. The customer service lady was very nice, and stated this problem happens and nothing is done about it. I did some research on the Variocage dog crate. I recall they crash tested it for all 3 types of crashes. It showed several of the straps breaking, and I thought that was a bad sign. But according to info from a video posted below, the straps are only designed to keep the crate oriented in the rear of your car prior to the collision, after that the straps can break, but the crate is designed to protect effectively. The angled part of the crate abutting the rear seat disperses the force of a rear end collision over the largest surface as opposed to a square regular crate which contacts the rear seat at the point of its corner. The corners of the crate where the dog doors are (I bought a 2 dog medium crate) are blunted- that is to conform to the crumple zone of the back of your car in case of rollover- thus creating its own crumple zone. Lastly the telescoping bars allow force to be absorbed, but still protect your dog inside. The Swedish designers have outdone themselves, The cost is around $1,100 but you get what you invest in. If your goal is to get one of the safest crates for your dog, Variocrate ranks among the top 3 in my research. I picked it over the other choices because it fit into the rear of my vehicle the best. I had very good assistance before purchasing regarding size — of my dogs and of my car–and ended up with a Large Double for two English Labradors. It's a good size for them and fits just perfectly in my Subaru Outback. I found the assembly not too difficult (the video on the website helps to supplement the paper instruction sheet). The dogs have plenty of room but the space is smaller than what they are used to, so I left it set up in the house for several days so they could practice going in and out. They both seem very comfortable riding in it, and I LOVE having them safely contained — especially when they are wet (and/or muddy) from swimming. I also like that it doesn't hinder visibility for driving very much – something I was worried about when I started looking at some other crates.Robin R.
I like the Variocage products. I have the Variogate and divider In our other car. However, positioning some components to get proper bolt alignments was very challenging on this assembly. One side flange of the rear lower panel was so far out of alignment that it had to be bent to fit. Other components required clamps to achieve alignment for bolts. If I had time to wait for replacement parts, I know that they would have been gladly provided. Since I was so far along with assembly, I decided to soldier on. I bought the medium size crate for my husky/pit bull mix. It got here super fast and was undamaged. All the parts fit and instructions were easy to follow. I was glad it came partially assembled. I put it together by myself and that is saying alot, because as a 60 year old woman it was pretty heavy! I did zip tie the top shut and also use a plastic coated tie out cable to reinforce the door. I was unsure the locks would remain shut if he wanted to get out. My dog seems to appreciate the space inside the crate. I was worried about the floor wiring, so I put a thick, flat quilt in there to cover it. I have been using it for 5 days and so far, it has been good. I am happy he has more space and the strength of the crate seems to be good. I suppose we shall see over the long haul, but at this point, it's working well. I wish this was the first crate I bought for my dog. She wrecked 2 of the wire metal crates and even escaped from one. I have no idea how she damaged the other crates without hurting herself in the process. NOW! I do not worry about that. She tries to chew on the bars but only manages to peel some of the dark coating off. She is 60 lbs and she shuffles her bedding around a bit but she can not bend the bars or move the placement of the crate in any way. Two of the bars were bent during shipping so one of the screw placements does not align. But that has not decreased the integrity of the crate at all. This crate has made me a lot more relaxed to know that when I leave the dog is safe. It's also really easy to collapse and fold up and to add or remove the wheels. I purchased this kennel five years ago. When I rescued our Border Collie they told me she would escape every kind of kennel. The tree is just a tad under 5 foot. Not a problem for our little living room. The LED lights can be very bright–but you can unplug the LED lights! It still has 8 different light mod's even with the LED's unpluged. The longer branches on the bottom will not hold heavy ornaments. Light weight ornaments and garland is fine. It really is pretty even with out ornaments. The fiber optics make it a very colorful tree, even in the day time. The LED's are to brite for our liking. Not a problem for us we just unpluged them! Hey it's a 60 dollar tree. We are happy with it. You will have to fold down all of the branches they are not hinged like some of the higher dollar trees. It filled out nice! The XL size can be hard to find. Was out-of-stock at Petmate, so I signed up for an e-mail alert when in stock. I am confident I received an alert just as soon as it was being manufactured. I really appreciate that. I ordered two for my Aussies. Yes, is a tad large for them, but they've used this size since they were young, and sleep in them. They can turn around easily in them, the crate has very good air movement, and the sides are straight with no lost space inside as so many have with curved sides. One cover was damaged in shipment. I let Petmate know on a weekend and got an immediate response from customer service. I just sent them a picture of the damage and had a new crate in a few days. Great experience all around. Shipping cost was high, but that's part of the time we live in. I'd been looking for this crate at other locations for a few years. Never found it in XL. Was well worth the shipping cost to me. This is my second purchase directly from Petmate — each experience has been great.
My first impression was the quality of the plastic crate. Sturdy and attractive. And it was simple to put together. Everything lined up nicely. I purchased this for my rescue with separation anxiety. He struggled with the metal crate, fretting no matter how short the time in the crate. It was recommended by our trainer to purchase a plastic crate "from Tractor Supply." So my dogs are rescues. The first one hated the metal wire crate. 3 years & another rescue added to our pack I decided to try crating again to save my home. I was a bit nervous because this was a huge investment – I purchased 2 cates & 2 crate beds. I assembled the crates in the bedroom where they would be placed. I allowed my dogs to watch me and inspect. I even stood inside the crate before assembling so they could see. I put in the cushy furry bed, got a treat, said kennel up and Bam! They climbed right in, I closed the door and gave them their treat. They absolutely LOVE their crates. When they get frightened from the thunder & lightning, they kennel up and are happier & safer. When we have people coming to visit, especially new to the pups, I kennel them up about 10 minutes before guests arrive. Once guests show up, I explain to them to ignore the dogs when I let them out. Couldn't be happier with my Jeep Cargo Kennel. It fits "perfectly" in the trunk area of my Ford Fiesta. It sits low enough to not block my view out the rear mirror. I moved all the way from Northern California to DC in the car with my two cats (one 9 lb. domestic shorthair and one 18 lb. ragdoll), and this crate was perfect! They had enough room to move around while also being comfortable, it helped a lot with my anxiety that I could buckle the crate to the seats, and it was super easy to set up. I would recommend putting puppy pads under it so that your back seats don't get gross, and you need some other plan to get kitties in and out of the car because it's not a solid base (you certainly can't carry a kitty in the crate outside the car), but it worked great and was the perfect solution.ZorraTheo
I bought two of these kennel/soft crates, one for each of my cats, in the event I ever need to evacuate my home (for my bug-out kit). They are roomy enough to hold a small litter box, food and water dishes, plus let the cat stretch its legs. I can also put both my cats together in one for traveling in the backseat of my car. The kennels fold up to the size of a large briefcase. It is a little tricky to fold them up but not a dealbreaker. These kennels are not ideal for long term situations, but they gave me great peace of mind knowing I have a safe way of transporting and housing my cats in the event of an emergency.Karen BH

We bought a larger crate 6 months ago that housed 3 small dogs and 2 cats for 3 days while we drove across country. For several months the 3 dogs shared it at night (the cats found another place to sleep). Recently, we decided to separate the 2 older dogs from the younger and bought 2 of the medium sized crates. The "travel crate" was folded and put away in the laundry room for the next time we travel with all our babies, and we stacked the 2 medium crates. Even stacked, these crates have good strength and a solid build. I can't say enough about how exceptional these crates are and the divider is great when needing to separate pets in a pinch.mslubner
I was so excited about the fantastic sales price on the crates! Ordered an i Crate in the large size, before I did the research. After research I realized I ordered the lowest-grade crate, not what I wanted. Tried to cancel the order to reorder the higher-grade Ultima Pro. After two calls, they did send a cancel through to see if it would work. (It didn't.) I didnt want to risk waiting and missing the sale so I ordered the Ultima Pro, had to be medium, because large was out of stock. Just opened it and, like others, got one that can't even be put together because it's so out of square. It can't even be bent into place it's so bad. This is one reason I HATE buying online. The only good part is I can at least return it to the local Petco instead of having to ship it back.Lotsa animals here
My dog loves her new crate. She out grew the first one we purchased . This one gives her all the room she needs to stretch out and sleep. I love the kennel, but there is some advertising issues with the size recommendations. On the Wayfair site and the Dakota site it says that this kennel is ideal for a large (41-70 lb) dog – it absolutely isn't. This would never fit my 37 lb field Lab, but does fit my Cairn Terrier (12.5" at the withers) and Sheltie (14"). If people look at the dimensions instead of the size recommendation, they'll be fine. If you have a small dog, this is a good option. If you have a large dog, this isn't the kennel you want. I also wish the T1's were stackable. Overall, it meets the needs of my smaller dogs – the kennel is very well made, I like the latching mechanism, and it is well ventilated. I really hope the company considers making them stackable!Tara

I recently purchased two of these crates for '13 Chevy Suburban. Got the largest crates available for Giant Schnauzer and a Rottweiler puppy. The Giant S can just barely turn around in it. Will see if the Rotty fits when full grown. The crates fit without having to take the third row seats out. There are about four inches to spare width wise with both crates in. Can load and unload from rear or side doors of suv ,if third row seats are removed. These crates are a bit heavy for me to carry in and out of shows and trials, but know they need to be heavier for sturdiness with large breeds. I'm going to try some sort of wheels for moving in and out of venues. Would like to have crate pads and/or cool mats that fit these crates.Kaija

I purchased two 42 inch dog crates to put in my Toyota Sienna Mini Van. They were a perfect fit. My dogs stand 24 inches at the withers and weigh 75lbs and 62lbs. Both have ample room to stretch out, stand up and turn around. The crates are heavy duty and I love the fact that they have 2 doors so I can load them from the inside as well.
