The animal must be saturated in this shampoo as skunk spray is an oil that penetrates into your animal's body and fur. I found it especially difficult to get the shampoo lathered up between the ear and eye area as I didn't want to get the soap in the eyes when rinsing off. My 3 dogs got sprayed. I used this once and the smell was gone. This shampoo smells good but it does not lather well. I used almost a full bottle on my dogs. Two have short hair, but my shepherd mix has a lot of fur. I left it on for several minutes as I rubbed it in their fur It rinsed off well. I received the 32 ounce bottle of "De-Skunk Odor Destroying Shampoo" and have used it on my dog once already. This shampoo has a very cinnamon/black licorice smell to it. It is a VERY strong smell which my dog did not like at all, she actually kept sneezing when I was bathing her and she has never done that with other shampoos before. This shampoo is not very runny which I liked because a lot of dog washes are and you tend to use way too much and waste it. This shampoo also lathered up very nicely with little effort. I liked how I was able to really massage this into my dog's coat. This shampoo left my dog's coat nice and shiny afterwards too. Instructions say to allow this shampoo to sit on your pet for 3-5 minutes before rinsing it off. I really liked the fact that this shampoo does not remove the topical flea and tick treatments that are used on the back of the dog's neck. This is a great shampoo for any dog owner to have on hand. This is absolutely the best skunk shampoo ever! Although Nature's Miracle skunk shampoo works just as well, Skunk Off has a wonderful fragrance to it. It's not overpowering-just, well, fresh and clean and great. I usually just have to use it one time, and the skunk smell is virtually gone. If my dog had been hit close, I will bathe him with it twice. Just as with the Nature's Miracle stuff, DON'T rub it in like you usually do with shampoo, just smooth it on, and then wait five minutes, and wash off with warm water. I ordered this for our little Yorkie who got sprayed face on, in her mouth and down the front of her (none in her eyes thank goodness). We used this shampoo as directed and when she was dry there was a pleasant odour of coconut. As soon as she got wet in the rain the first time after being bathed there was the horrible smell of skunk mixed with the smell of coconut . So after she is bathed in this and dried she is ok until she gets wet again and then there is skunk. We use "Natures Miracle" products regularly, but this particular product was a total failure for us. We first treated our dog with peroxide and backing soda, and that took most of the smell out. The next morning we purchased this product in an attempt to removed the remaining smell. We followed directions, and used it twice, but the remaining smell was unaffected. I didn't know what to think from reading the other reviews. Some swear it worked, others say it was useless. Here's my experience. When my Bernedoodle first got sprayed, I used the hydrogen peroxide formula you read about all over the Internet. Although, it got all the yellow stain off his coat, the smell was still horrendous. I waited a week thinking it would dissipate over time but there was no improvement whatsoever. Accordingly, I set out to purchase a commercial product and settled on Nature’s Miracle. Initially, I didn’t think it had worked at all – I was in the camp of the 1 star reviews. But then I noticed a small improvement the following day, maybe 10-20%. You might think it was just time not the product, but trust me, after living with the smell for over a week I could tell there was an improvement not related solely to the passage of time. I called the Nature’s Miracle support line to ask how often I could reapply it without harming my dog’s coat. The agent advised repeat applications were fine as long as I waited a few days in between. More importantly, she advised that I should not rinse him off before using it, like you normally do before applying shampoo. That was my mistake with the first application. I had assumed he had to be rinsed first in order for the product to lather up. In any event, after a second “dry-coat” application Nature’s Miracle got rid of at least 90% of the smell…hallelujah! So, follow the instructions, apply it dry and repeat if necessary…it will work. My only advice to the company is to add “Do not rinse first” to the instructions. It just seems natural to rinse before shampooing your dog, washing your car or whatever so adding that little tidbit of information should help customers like me to apply it properly the first time.Hombre
Wow….I've had 3 dogs in my life, 2 that passed away about 7 years ago, and 1 hellion and beautiful lover lab who came into our lives six years ago. My two Westies got skunked for the first time. Without any remedy on-hand, I used the peroxide/baking soda/detergent recipe. That worked somewhat, but both dogs still had a strong odor, especially when they got wet. After trying two more treatments, I got the Skout’s Honor product. It’s not a shampoo, but almost like water. The odor dissipated a bit more, but there’s still a faint smell left. I expected complete elimination, but maybe I’m wishing too much. So the dogs got sprayed again tonight, which gave me the opportunity to use Scout's Honor on the dogs. I was able to 100% remove the skunk smell on the three of them that got sprayed. TIPS for best results: 1. Fill up a spray bottle with Scout's Honor, don't try pouring it right from the bottle that it comes from. That way you can spot spray directly and deeply into the fur to the skin. 2. Spray directly onto dry fur like the directions say. Use a washcloth to scrub hard at the areas that got a direct hit. Spray and scrub, spray and scrub. 3. Keep at it until you can't smell any of the worst areas. Then rinse with warm water, dry the dog as much as possible with a towel, and then sniff again. This time you'll be able to hone into the small areas that still smell. Spray and scrub with the washcloth, spray and scrub. Rinse again. Do the smell test. Get your nose right down into the fur so you can identify those remaining areas. Spray and scrub. If the dog was directly sprayed, this process may take 30 minutes but IT IS SO WORTH IT!! Amazing product that really works!!! My 4 year old black kitty cat has very flaky skin. Combing him only makes the flakes worse. I bought this oatmeal conditioning spray with many doubts that it would change anything. I only used it 1 time as I just received it. I am completely amazed on how well it worked!! By the very next morning he had very few flakes left !! his Fur felt so soft and no flakes!! Everyone who had seen him since I used the spray has made comments on how beautiful his fur looks. He didn’t like me spraying on him it actually scared him and freaked him out. After that failed I sprayed it on my hand and rubbed it all over him. I then combed it thru and he loved that. It smells great. Honestly I saw a huge difference that same night !! I highly recommend this product. I have a chihuahua with super sensitive, itchy skin. I didn't want her to take steroids all the time so got this oatmeal spray to help calm her skin. It is very easy to apply, just lift the fur, spray and gently rub in. The spray feels nice and smells good. She use to hate getting sprayed but over time is a lot better about it. The product works well. Unfortunately I have to keep it around because I have 2 large dogs that get into fights. The spray does most of the breaking up of the fight but it takes the whole can. If the can is not completely full as I've come to learn it isn't enough to help me break up the fight. I wish the can held a few more ounces. The product is expensive but each time I need to re-stock I research to find the best price and Valley Vet always seems to have the lowest even factoring in the shipping fee. I have a big German shepherd/malamute mix, a very sweet dog but with problems around other large breeds. We adopted him 1 1/2 years ago and didn't know his temperament entirely, but noticed his aggression. I've been through at year of training with him, but still there's an occasional problem. SpraySheild has effectively diverted the dogs' attention to allow me and other owners/handlers to intervene safely to prevent a real dog fight. I have also used it to intervene with other dogs fighting, all in dog parks. Again, it was hugely effective. The other owners mostly thanked me, after finding that it is safe to the dog, and so effective. Some owners have been upset, but this is mostly calmed when they realize that they may have saved from huge vet bills to the dogs that might have occurred in the fight, or hospital bills for dog bites if they had been bitten trying to intervene.John S.
Every once in awhile my Mother’s miniature poodles get into a scuffle and they really don’t want to stop. Yelling, and pulling them apart hasn’t been the best solution. And the spray shield worked! I've tried the Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Antiseptic and Anti fungal Spray for Dogs and Cats on a few of our outside cats. They've been deflead but one still kept scratching and losing fur just above her tail. I'm not sure if it's an allergic reaction to the fleas or if it's the result of a thyroid problem. But we tried this spray and the itching stopped immediately. It's been almost 3 weeks and she still isn't scratching it. I also wanted to try this on some ringworm that a few of the outside cats have. I've been spraying this on for almost 3 weeks now but haven't really seen any improvement with the ringworm spots that I'm treating. Ringworm can respond slow to treatments anyway so I'm not sure if this is going to help with that or not. The spray is a pump and it has a light citrus smell, kind of like oranges. It will not harm your pet if they lick it. It didn't list a minimum age that you can use it on. It contains Chlorhexidine Gluconate, Keratin, and Aloe Vera. It's listed as an antifungal, antimicrobial, and antibacterial. To use this you just spray the area tell really wet, twice daily for a week, then once daily for another week. I read the reviews for this product but was still a bit skeptical for it to actually work. One of my cats (2 yr old orange tabby) literally scratched the size of a 50 cent bare spot (literally overnight) in center of his back below shoulder blade. By the end of the day the circle was warm red inflamed and gross. Being on a tight budget I did my research for home remedies. First I began applying a year old vet prescribed Dermalone antibiotic that was prescribed for one of my other cats for 3 days but area got worse. Then began applying Neosporin for 2 days lightly on and around scab now and ( luckily the spot was where he could not reach to lick off) and it did nothing as well. A week later purchased this product, followed the directions and a week later the area was completed healed. Scab dried and fell off and new skin looks perfect and normal. Unfortunately I dont know what this was for did not take him to a vet. Infected area did resemble pictures of ringworm online. Im not a vet but am thinking whatever it was it was some type of fungal infection. Benefits of product; it wasnt expensive, was easy to apply, and has a light pleasant scent.Debbie
I am so thankful to have found this today! My poor dog could not stop scratching and licking under his front legs, and they were raw and bleeding. He was whimpering but would not stop. About 6 months ago, my cat, who has feline leukemia, stopped eating, was constantly vomiting, sleeping, and cringed whenever I touched her. She would still come in and sleep on me, but had no energy and whimpered a lot. When I found out that she had leukemia, the vet led me to believe I could make her as comfortable as best I could, or look into euthanizing her. I spent hours searching online for possible medicines that I could give her, even considering some pretty ridiculous and potentially stupid cure options. I found this and used it in conjunction with a Pedialyte and baby food mixture fed to her with syringe. Within 2 weeks, she was eating dry food again, running around with the other cats, and even more energetic than she'd been in the months leading up to this crisis. Great product! This combined with the oatmeal shampoo, regular or medicated. I love this shampoo to do my little one's head and face. A little below her eyes, applied with your finger, about an hour before her bath to soften the eye boogers works great. I don't know why they don't carry it in the stores currently. Careful though, on the B2G1 promo, you have to input an order for 3, they don't just send the third (a little confusing). This shampoo is horrible and a waste of my money. My dogs are 12 and 13 and I have used a lot of different shampoos over the years. This is by far the worst. I used it for the first time yesterday so I don’t know how soothing it will be for their skin, but it doesn’t matter because I won’t be buying it again. This cost too much money not to work as directed. The directions literally tell you to work up a rich lather. Is that a joke? You’ll waste it all of you think you are getting any type of lather. This soaps up just slightly and that’s after using more than you should have to. No matter how it works on their skin, I will not be buying a shampoo that requires me to use so much of it, which in turn makes me purchase more of it. Perhaps that’s what they want but not me. With the weather being so hot lately, we have been having more playdates inside. But sometimes that may lead to accidents from other furiends, which can be a problem when we have mostly carpet inside our home. With our most recent playdate, one dog friend had an accident. After it was cleaned up and then several sprays (just to be sure) of Advanced Platinum No More Marking for Indoor Training, no other dogs had mark the same area. I foster dogs for a rescue, as well as dogsit. With new dogs, there's always a small period of teaching them the house rules, and also establishing a normal potty routine. Also, some dogs are more prone to marking than others. Needless to say, accidents have happened at my place from time to time. I was so disappointed. We're having trouble with an "invasion" of squirrels, and I so hoped this would be an answer to deter them. I sprayed liberally around the yard, and it smelled really terrible which made me think it would work to deter them.
