This review is more of an update…3 weeks ago I put my "pleasingly plump" poodle on the Metabolic diet. She receives the Vet recommended amount of the canned food and 1 of these treats each day. Her diet was started on February 6, 2013. I took her to the Vet for her "weigh-In" on Feb. 26, 2013…..I held my breath with anticipation as we put her on the scale….Hallelujah! Peaches has lost 1.3 pounds in 3 weeks! I am ecstatic! I have nothing but praise and kudos for Hills for bringing this Metabolic weight loss system to the public. It truly works! I have tried to get Peaches to lose weight for about 2 years now with no success up until Metabolic diet was introduced. Not only is she losing weight, but her energy level has increased. Instead of her laying on the couch all day, she now gets up and plays toys again and is trotting through the yard with her sister (a maltese). This is MAJOR progress for a toy poodle who should weigh 6 lbs but started this diet at 11 lbs. Thank you so very much Hills for the Metabolic product line. If your pet is overweight – do them a favor….start them on this Metabolic diet – you have nothing to lose (but the weight of course – lol) with the Hills guarantee.

I wasn't too sure that Outta My Box would work on my chihuahua mix but I finally found something that worked. Our finicky sixteen year old cat enjoys the Outta My Box "treats" and our chihuahua really enjoys it too. It feels like I tried everything on the market to stop my dog from eating our cat's B.M. Even using training tools and cleaning up after every bowel movement didn't stop him. I have been using it for three weeks and I have seen a big difference. Outta My Box has been great!

One of my dogs, Bandit, has always been prone to poop issues: loose poop, mushy poop, and sometimes a bout of constipation. I became his third (!) owner early in 2017, when he was two, and the problems resulting from this issue have been so awful that my housemate even speculated that it may have been the reason his first two owners gave him up. He is a little black and white Pomeranian (think of Border Collie markings), and I was having to wash his bottom all the time to keep him clean, and sometimes even to help him go to the bathroom when he got too stopped up. I was absolutely at my wit's end, because if you've never had a situation like this, you have no idea what a quality of life issue it can be, for dog and owner. His bottom got sore, sometimes he dribbled on the floor, and I was constantly cleaning up smears left behind when he sat down. it was awful, but I made a promise when I got him that this would be his forever home, and I was not going to break it. I decided to change his diet again, and remembered hearing about Dr. Harvey's. Free samples, what's to lose, right? I sent off for samples of Canine Health and Raw Vibrance, with the intention of mixing the two. When the food arrived and I prepared it, I was immediately delighted by how good it smelled, like something I would actually eat myself. The real payoff, however, came about a day or two later. Normal poop. Not just once, but every single time. Poop is never what you would call pretty, but these are beautiful to me. It's hard to even express how much this means to me. It is such a change for the better, on so many levels, that I literally have tears in my eyes as I write this, because it feels like a miracle. I have never been so impressed with a product in my life.

Full disclosure: 1.) I'm not a vet, and this is purely allegorical. 2.) We still don't know if my dog's kidney panel levels are improving. We will be scheduling an appointment soon. But with all of that out of the way, let me just say that I was at a low point in terms of hope for my 13-year old Pit mix. Diagnosed with chronic renal failure several years ago, she was placed on medication and a special (expensive!) canned food diet. She didn't mind it at first but over the years, started eating less and less. Even adding carby goodness in the form of rice and sweet potatoes or extra flavoring like low-sodium chicken broth became insufficient to entice her to eat. I was barely getting a can a day into her. She started at a 55 lbs and dropped below 40 in a relatively short time. She looked emaciated. Legs became week and wobbly. She had tremors and was pouting virtually 24/7. She was the most miserable she's been in our 13 years together. I was sure we were nearing the end. But in searching for solutions online, I ran across Dr Harvey's Canine Health (and subsequently the Kidney Health Supplement). I read all the reviews and decided it was worth a shot. About a month in, we've almost gotten through her first 10-lb bag and she's still begging for her food at every meal. I feel like I have my puppy back. She's started to put a little healthy weight back on and just seems to have so much more energy. We've cycled through chicken, steak, boiled egg whites, and salmon as the protein add-ons – making sure to keep an eye out for high phosphorous levels – and my dog is drooling at her bowl waiting for me to load it up at every meal. After years of desperately trying to get her to eat, I'm not sure I can express the weight that lifted off of me as this became (and continues to be) our daily routine! Again, I'll add this big caveat: I don't know yet if all of this is really helping stabilize her kidney issues. I'll come back to add to this review when we have that information. And I don't even know if my vet would condone this diet change (though we have had conversations about the balance between keeping her happy in her later years vs. following a strict medical regimen). What I do know is my dog was wasting away on a prescription diet and I had to make a call as a parent to make her remaining years happy and filled with yummy meals. That's my experience. I think it falls in line with the vast majority of other reviewers. If I had it to do all over again, I'd start with this type of diet from day one. I can identify everything in the bag just by looking at it. There's no mystery about what my girl is eating. That's worth the world to me. Added bonus, for what it's worth: Dr Harvey's food actually smells good. The prescription food cans were really unpleasant to deal with. My wife is smell-sensitive and didn't want them anywhere near our kitchen or people food. But she has actually commented that Canine Health smells like something she would eat for breakfast!

Our 13 year old dog (Honey the Wonder Dog) was showing signs of degrading health and kidney numbers progressively getting worse for the past few years and in December of 2021 the numbers spiked and the vet officially said Honey had kidney disease and put her on a VERY LOW protein prescription kidney diet which she ate but didn't relish. After 5 weeks her blood work showed remarkable improvement but in that short time Honey's zest for life had diminished and I could already see loss of muscle mass. The ingredient label on the KD diet kibble was appalling (I didn't know what half the ingredients were!) and the protein that was present was from byproduct meats. Disgusting! I was thrilled when I learned about Dr. Harvey's Canine Health pre-mix and 5 weeks ago started Honey on this product. I add nearly 1 cup of protein (per Dr. Harvey's recommendation for dogs on a low protein diet) that I make (browned turkey, ground beef or grilled fish) to each meal along with a high quality salmon oil and Honey gobbles her meals, has better energy than when she was on the KD diet and best of all… yesterday her blood work showed kidney numbers nearly identical to her test results 7 years ago! Our pup has a renewed zest for life and as a mom, it makes me happy to feed Honey high-quality whole food and NO kibble! We're grateful to have discovered the Dr. Harvey product. Amazing!

At my vet's directive, I started my Shih Tzu mix on the g/d 6 months ago. I decided to get the canned and dry to strike a balance, and to give her something to crunch. She is almost two, so I felt the dry would be good for her teeth. I had no idea the kibble would be so large! I have had two other small dogs on k/d and i/d in the past, and the dry was appropriately sized. I have had to wet and smash the g/d dry, otherwise she picks them out of dish, drops on floor and tries to eat later, but with another dog in house I can't risk it. I see other comments about this issue so I am adding my voice to them – please make smaller bites. Big dogs can eat any size kibble, small ones cannot.
