This toy is very attractive & potentially challenging, so I very much wanted it to work for my one-year-old beagle-pit bull mix. As to the challenge, it was only moderate—he had the mini-tennis ball out of its tube in under 20 minutes. But then (and this probably wouldn’t be as true with a less powerful dog), he reduced the ball to shreds, then went to work on the tube. I’m still picking up bits of red rubber as half of the tube is now chewed up. Suppose this is the trade off: all-natural rubber spells decreased durability. For comparison, my dog has a synthetic rubber toy that he can’t make a dent in. So it comes down to what the buyer values more.Tom B.

within minutes of use pieces of the tennis tumbler were breaking off and it was cracking – when contacted customer service – as this is very unusual – we buy many toys and none of them fell apart like this ever – Customer service response: Thanks for reaching out. This is a cool toy, but like so many toys, once Scrapple figured out how to get the ball out (15 minutes) he was done and I haven't been able to re-engage him. The holder is nice and durable, but for him the fun was getting the ball out. The ball has a fuzzy cover which means that once he was able to get a grip on it, he could get it out. A ball with less to grip it by might help. I've put in a regular ball and he's not interested. I'm planning to share the toy with another dog who is less strategic (and has a wider snout!) A smaller tennis tumble with a medium ball would be better for smaller dogs. Make that and Scrapple will try it out! The lg/extra lg is a bit too big for my 35 lb dog and I ordered it by accident seeing only the word “large.” Once Petco accepts returns in store again, I will be taking it back. I bought this to replace a medium version that had been completely trashed. Unfortunately this hasn’t been as robust as I had hoped. The squeak broke almost immediately, followed by the disc where it is located. I only allow ‘supervised’ use, but it was done and dusted within about half an hour’s playtime (2 x 15 minute sessions). She hasn’t managed to remove the tennis ball yet, so we are still enjoying it and I do believe there is a limit to what I can expect given my dog’s size/breed. He's an insatiable fetch dog, so when I sit down on the recliner or the couch, he starts bringing toys for me to toss while I read or watch TV. I can pop this toy over my shoulder without worrying about breaking something. It's soft underfoot if I should kick or step on it in the dark. This dog never chews anything but his toys—he peels tennis balls within a few days. You'd think something as light and soft as this Chuckit would be shredded in no time, but these last months. The foam core never punctures, even if he starts to get the cover peeled back. I don't worry about him ingesting bits of foam and cloth. Needless to say, when this toy gets slobbery, it picks up floor dust, so I rinse it under the faucet or even toss it in the washing machine with a load of gentle-cycle items. My Bailey loves this little toy. She's not really a chewer on plastic toys she prefers just to chew the tennis ball so this ensures it'll last longer since she can't quite get to it. NOT SAFE FOR SMALL DOGS! I just got home from the vet after my 12lb pups lower jaw became lodged inside of the treat hole. The vet had to cut the ball out from around her jaw and was the one who recommended that I let others know the danger of this. I thought this one surely would be indestructible with my chewer. Beware! The yellow coating on the ball does NOT hold up to sharp teeth. These were the worst quality tennis balls. Tennis balls with my dog normally last a very long time unless he as the ability to just sit and pick at them and destroy them. All 4 of these balls split within about 5-10 minutes of normal fetch use. Never seen balls deteriorate quicker. Every one of them split in half on the seam. Not worth the money.spider
