One day is all it took for my escape artist to stay in the yard. We now know that our fur-babies are safe in thier own area, Sure beats running home several times a day to round them up. Very easy to install, took us about 4 hours from start to finish. We did not bury the wire (one is a digger) but put it into PVC around the yard. It protects the wire from lawnmowers, weed eaters and digging. The wite PVC also serves as a reminder to the dogs that it is the line in the sand to not cross. It was easy to put the wire around a herb garden to keep themy from jumping on it, My big guy will bolt to the corner of the yard but hits the brakes hard within five feet of the line. I set up the white flags around the yard so they will know where to stop. The directions were easy to understand and online had pictures to give us ideas and how tho set off areas. I would recommend the stubborn big dog to anyone who needs to contain their babies.jamieladie

I have a pup that is a large breed, he looks like I been feeding him steak and potatoes cause he's so dang big. He is ALL puppy though. Chews on everything loves running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Been trying to train him to chill with me, yeah, right. He wants to play. And because he wants to play, he wants to run every stinkin where. Decided, for my sanity as well as his safety, I'd get this thing. Put the flags out, set it on a low static charge, and it didn't take long before he figured it out. You DO have to WORK a dog with this. It's not just a plug it up and watch their hair shoot up when they get popped. Walked him around the perimeter for 7 days, he sees and sniffs the flags. After that, I let him run around, and he got popped maybe 3 times, and figured it out. Now he's pretty dang happy, and I can let him rip around with zoomies while I work in the yard. I have a 2 yr old LARGE French Mastiff that weighs 180ish! I bought with the (red in color) “stubborn” collar. We previously installed a wired underground fence. (Which I have to mention took 2 FULL DAYS TO INSTALL AND READY TO USE!!) My Bo would realize he was close to the boundary, take a step or two back then take a run right through it, with no second thought!!! We watched him do this several times. I guess he was thinking, well this is going to hurt but only for a few short seconds. Idk?? But it did NOT phase him one bit! I had talked to 4 or 5 people that had this system, so reluctantly I decided to give it a try. I thought to myself well if it doesn’t work I will simply return it, no harm no foul. My boyfriend had it installed and collar on Bo in 30 mins flat. We walked ole hard-headed Bo around maybe 4 times to show him the boundaries. Once he heard the beeping, he kept walking then he felt the shock 1 time and that must have been enough because he never ventured close again! It has been about 2 months of use and I would give it 100 STARS IF IT WAS AN OPTION! We live in a subdivision where houses are fairly close. I was ultimately worried that the zone would lead into the neighboring yard. (which was the #1 thing we are trying to prevent) And although it may, Bo doesn’t even attempt to go that far. I believe he now understands to stay in his own yard! Living in a subdivision, many people take walks and Bo just sits and watches them now!! Matter of fact, just to see, we have sent him outside WITHOUT the collar and ironically enough HE STAYS IN OUR YARD!! The ONLY complaint I have is the small clear piece on the collar broke off the first time I went to adjust the strength of the shock. So far it hasn’t effected anything so fingers crossed on that! Just an FYI, we set ours on a level 3 to begin with and my boyfriend was ready to give up, so I told him to have some patience and we just kept adjusting the level on the collar and we ended up discovering for Bo he needed to be set on a #6. Again, I repeat he weighs 180 lbs, and the Mastiff bread is KNOWN for their stubbornness. I would suggest starting at the lowest level for a smaller dog PLEASE! We've used these for years. Plan on replacing once a year. The seals often fail and they get wet inside from rain. Make sure you take them off at night or your dogs neck will get hot spots. The standard 9v battery is easily replaceable and economical, but it makes the box very large. If you have chewers, they will tear the boxes off of each others collars.rbeachylife

Has adjustable shocks levels so can start low if needed. Also has different prongs for different types of fur. Have these on 3 different dogs yorkie, labradoodle and pitbull and works great on each one.Nic Barbee

I got the stay and play this one goes to the undergound fence but both work great. Ever since i got them i dont have any more problems with the dogs getting out.. And i have 7 dogs. And have are very hard head. I have hounds huskies and other mixed..Doggroomer

The in ground wireless system has been great for containing our dog within our property. However….. our first collar strap that came with the system only lasted us 2 months before the plastic clasp broke. I considered calling the company, but just went ahead and paid for the replacement strap myself, to avoid the headache. I'm hoping this second strap lasts us longer than just 2 months. I have bought many of these over the years, always decent. The latest one keeps slipping and won't stay at the size I set. There must be some QC issue as the others always worked. It just comes loose as she runs and plays, even though I've heated the end to keep from fraying and use the clip to hold the excess collar. It has slipped enough that I'm worried my dog will lose it, so I will have to rig something like a wire-tie or clip of some kind to keep it from getting loose. Disappointing, as all the others I've bought from you were fine and you are the only ones that sell the 1 inch wide collars. The 0.75" are too thin and eventually twist, rendering them ineffective.Tweety

Ok, maybe my dogs do if they sneak out of range setting 6 on the collar will make your dog come off the ground like a bass breaking water setting 4 is definitely enough. I have never had a problem. I have been using PetSafe for at least 15 years. I wired a half acre lot and I just open the door and out my 2 dogs go and I know they are safe. We live in the middle of Dallas. I really like how it has worked over the years except….. Using the 16 ga. wire supplied, I used to get failure in the system. The receiver box would be beeping and not working. I would have to rewire sections of the wire for it to again work properly. This happened 5 or 6 times until I rewired the whole yard perimeter with 14 ga. wire. The system has never gone down since I did this 6 or 7 years ago. I give this a 5 star rating using 14 ga. wire.Lake

This collar works well with our older Instant Fence unit. We purchased it for our small (9lb) 9 month old pup. It fits her well, and is not to big for her. There is plenty of adjustment in the collar for different sized dogs. The battery life is excellent and she has responded well to wearing it in our yard. I only wish that it had an additional mode for a vibration alert as well as sound. It would also be nice to have a louder sound for us people. When training a small dog I had to bend over to try and hear the alert as we approached the boundary. But in the end, as long as the dog hears the sound, that's all that matters. Great way to keep your pet safe in your yard. When I called pet safe for information, the customer service rep. was very helpful in choosing the right collar for our needs. That helped a lot.3 pines

Garmin is known for great value and they don't fall short with the PT10 add-on collar for the PRO70, PRO550 or the SportPRO I have the Pro550 and I use all three functions, the tone, the vibrate and the stimulus while training and my dogs respond to each one in the manner I want. Only took 2-3 sessions and 2 mild static corrections to have my frisky Doberman trained! She loves to bolt into the woods at the first sign of this stray cat and nothing has been able to prevent it until now. I even let her out without the collar and she stays in the designated area. I heard that the battery dies quickly on the collar so when she is not outside, I take the battery out of the collar to lengthen the battery life. We currently rent our home so putting up fencing is not an option for us. This wireless fence allows us to let our dog enjoy some perceived freedom. The system works very well and keeps our pup confined to our yard. Batteries in the collar have to be changed on a regular basis. If not, you may find yourself chasing down an overjoyed dog who intentionally runs through every puddle in your neighborhood. We recently got a new Bernese Mountain dog puppy and we have a 7 year old Dachshund mix who we rescued 4 years ago. I received the kit very quickly through the mail. The instructions were pretty simple and I was able to run the cable around the perimeter of my property very quickly for testing it out. Our puppy got corrected about three times before he truly figured it out and learned to stay away from the perimeter. Our Dachshund, who is known for bolting as soon as the door opens, didn't take to it as quickly. "Can't teach an old dog new tricks?" That was not the case. After she ran through the fence a few times, she was scared to go outside at all. Being a rescue from an abused family, this is understandable. After working with her for a week, showing her the boundaries with the shock correction turned off just utilizing the audible correction and the vibration alert, She started to get comfortable outside again and also stayed away from the perimeter. The beep and vibration was enough to get her attention and she returns into the property. At this time, I spent half a day with a spade shovel and buried the fence a couple inches into the ground. I found that the signal was a bit less, so I took advantage of the signal strength dial and turned it up and tested it again. It took a bit of trial and error, but I got it dialed in pretty good. This has been an absolutely fantastic device for the dogs. They can go outside and run around like a dog should be able to do! Now I just have to figure out how to stop my Dachshund from digging up critters around my AC unit, LOL. I think I am going to build a decorative fence around my unit for this. I purchased this system about three years ago. It worked great for my GSD for about two months.. then he learned he could run through it.. and did so on a regular basis. If you have smaller dogs.. would highly recommend this fence system.. for bigger dogs… Not so much. Oh and i recently acquired a Caucaision Ovcharcta… she is now 8 months old and goes through it like it wasn't there. For me it was a waste of money. I have two pit bulls and a bull terrier. I bought this in hopes it will keep the dogs in the yard without a physical fence. At first the dogs were very scared to go outside but after a little training and some play time in the yard they have learned their boundary. Be sure to not adjust the width control while the dogs are wearing the collar they may get an unexpected shock. Be sure to read the instructions and then read them again before trying it on the pets. Show them the boundary on level one which is just a vibration and a beep.Then set it to level two which is the lowest shock. We installed the in ground wire around the perimeter of our property. I have one dog that digs under our fence and one that climbs the fence. These collars keep our dogs away from the fence and keeps them from running out into the street. We have had our fence for 5 years now and only replaced the collars once because I misplaced them. Batteries need replacement every few months. I like that the dogs get a beeping warning once they are within a few feet of the perimeter and only get shocked if they cross the boundary.fldolphinmc

I have a lab / hound mix that is 11 years old and she weighs about 85lbs. We began usin this collar since April 2017 and within 3 months, one of the prongs broke off. We contacted petsafe and were told that this is an uncommon problem and that the only way this could happen is due to "rough play, hitting it against an object, over-tightening the probes, etc." I have a hard time believing our senior aged dog plays rough enough to break the prongs of a durably made product. If you have a larger / sporting breed dog, i would steer clear of this product and go with Invisible Fence or the SportDOG brand from another retailer. They seem to cater to larger / sporting breeds. We've had our fence under a year, no problems with the actual fence. We have 2 dogs on the fence, 1 is an English Mastiff and the other is a Cocker Spaniel. The Cocker Spaniel's clip/closure cracked and broke off so we had to go out and search almost an acre of property to find it. We did find it but it is a PAIN to have to go out and search for a collar that you would not expect to break. Recently our English Mastiff has been strolling off the property, she has never done that in the almost year we have had it. First think I did was check the battery and decided to be safe we would change it!! That didn't work so I decided to take off the collar and check it to make sure it worked and it does but there are certain times when it don't. I have it on the highest frequency and I'm hoping this works, I will keep you informed. But us like others are missing the clear caps that cover the button to change the frequency. I don't understand how these pieces can come off unless we take them off, this tells me that there is a malfunction in your manufacturing if we are not the only ones missing these caps!! Then to top it off, you sell these clear caps and expect us to pay for them, something doesn't seem right. If you know these clear caps come off, shouldn't you be trying to fix this issue and offer those caps or free? ​Rich T

If anyone has ever owned a husky or even know about the breed they are escape artist. My yard I thought was husky proof…apparently not. We used chicken wire around the fence so she couldn’t climb the fence, we put chicken wire in the ground so if she dug she’d hit that and we had done other things to the yard. Anyway long story short one day her and my sister dog got out of the yard and this was one of our last resorts. At first I was really frustrated with the product and upset that my husky would run out of the barrier and not care about the shock. I spent time training her where she was allowed to go and where she wasn’t. My sisters dog was easy to train, she got shocked once and knew not to go past It. FINALLY after months my husky stays where she’s supposed to and doesn’t go outside of It. They dogs still have 80% of the yard to run and play in. I have a pretty big back yard. Depending on your dog is might be the best option for you to keep your pet safe inside your yard. I still do not trust the fence 100% just because I know how my dog is.jacqueline.t

I've loved the fence since we got in it April but over the last couple weeks the collar and transmitter haven't seem to be communicating right. There's been no change to location and collar is always charged. Dog has been seen outside of normal boundary (which he doesn't breach). Upon bringing him back and checking the boundary again with him the collar on doesn't beep or give any indication the boundary has been breached. I've tried removing and walking the boundary holding it at dog level and it worked, put it back on dog bring him to the boundary and he walks right through with nothing. Try it again then all of a sudden it works. I don't have any idea what the heck is going on but it's confusing to my dog and it teaching him that sometimes he can breach the boundary with no consequences.Bburgess

I checked your product in a pet store yesterday and thought that the receivers for the collars were very large and clumsy. Do you make smaller receivers for small dogs. I have owned this system for a yr and run 3 collars on it. At first it worked great 4 months in a collar stopped working it would show red light like charging but would never come on so i purchased another one 130 bucks (wow) with in weeks same thing to my other one called tech support this time they walked me theough how to turn it on (at this point i laughed at the begining of the call i stated i have had the system a year) they told me it must be broke and buy a new one. Well broke to me is nothing working but i have red light on charging and stays red for hours 8 to be exact on both of them so this is trash and do not expect help from tech support. I'm very grateful and very happy about this, since it is a very nice collar and easy to use. Here's hoping the failure of the first one was a fluke! I probably will ultimately get another one for one of the other dogs (we have 3!) once we use up all of the batteries we have. While I'm only giving three stars for the collar due to the short lifespan, I would definitely rate service at 5 stars!DigitMom

We bought this 2 years ago. We have 2 dogs. We just purchased our 4th collar. They just quit working about 18 months after purchase. The longest one of these collars has lasted for us is 20 months. Very frustrating. The collars are too expensive to be replaced any earlier than the recommended 3-5 years.kke2004

We tried it out, and my dog ran right through it. We tried what were supposed to be brand new batteries, sometimes it lights up,sometimes it doesnt. Stick to the kind that are rechargeable batteries, less headache! Dont know if it is the collar or the batteries now.that1970sgirl

Recently bought this product for my two dogs. I have a boxer and a jack russell. Both dogs learned within a few hours to listen for the beeps. My boxer loves it, because she can now roam from the backyard to the front yard. My jack russell however, is scared to move too much, so she’s still a work in progress, but I’m sure she will eventually work through it. The only negative I have about this product is the collar is pretty big and bulky for my jack russell. It’s a good size for my boxer, but I’ve noticed my jack russell has a hard time getting comfortable when laying down trying to nap.mtmontoya

We just moved out of a condo and into a house where we now have our own backyard. Our new backyard isn't fenced in and a fence really isn't in the budget right now so they was a great money saving solution for our dog. I have a Boston Terrier that is very stubborn and doesn't always listen when she is called. If she spots a squirrel or bird, or neighbor's cat she loses all control and has to chase it. I have a three year old Jack Russel Terrier Chihuahua mix, and a two year old Miniature pincher Pomeranian mix. As you can imagine these boys are none stop energy, and as stubborn as they get!
