The toy arrived in the bag but it did not “talk”. It was immediately replaced and the new one is great. There isn’t much padding between the mechanism and where the dog makes it talk so I’m not sure how long it will last. In the meantime my big dog is enjoying this talking dog a great deal. I purchased 2 "talking monkeys" for my 6 yr old basset hound Emmy because she liked the "talking ducks" (from Petco.com) so much. There's something about the noise these "recorded sounds" make, that drives her nuts. She races around the house like crazy, playing with the toy, making the noises (which are not at all obnoxious), causing my 12 year old basset Wendy to bark & bark. It gives me great joy to see them having fun. Unfortunately the mechanical devices inside the toys don't hold up. They should have more protection around the metal "noise box". 2 ducks & 1 monkey stopped working after a few hours of play. I'll keep buying them as long as Petco keeps replacing them. It probably helps that I trained my pup how to be "nice" when he used to accidentally bite my hand when I'd give him treats & say "OW!" So, now when I give him a new toy, I tell him to "play nice" with it. He also doesn't bite a toy to activate the sound or squeaker. He just noses it when it's on the floor. Idk where he got that from, but this toy has lasted about a month so far & is still making screaming, monkey sounds, lol. However, it was advertised as extra tough, and my soft mouthed spaniel was able to chew the face off his "monkey" in 3 minutes or less. he also tore off his hands and feet. Our puppy LOVED LOVED LOVED Mr. Bill….unfortunately he is an agressive chewer and destroyed him after two weeks, but please note that he carried it around 24/7. He would panic if we hid it from him. And, even after he pulled out the stuffing we retrieved the sound box "Oh no!!!" and inserted it into another toy. This Mr. Bill toy is bigger than I expected which was a nice surprise. I also expected a wheezing/squeaky sound to come from it, but no it does indeed have a voice box and it shouts "OH NOOOOOOOO!" when my dog bites on his belly. Its durable, my baby usually destroys toys in a day (poor lambchop didn't have a chance), but she loves this one and carries it around and it has survived a week so far! The ONLY downside (not really a downside, more just an FYI) is if you are annoyed by repeated sounds or phrases, the OH NOOOOOOOO! non stop for 3 hours or so is enough to drive you insane. haha! I am working on training my dog with this starter set. I purchased a total of 8 buttons, but I am currently just working with 4 of them. The product I received is as described and seems well made. The reason I gave it 3 stars is due to the location of the record button. It is really easy for my dog or myself to hit that button which erases the recording. I have had to re-record the command multiple times due to this issue.
I had high hopes. But this product is soooo cheaply made. And the recording device is so bad, you cannot make out the words you record. It comes out garbled. Does not come with batteries (a personal pet peeve) and you have to buy a special tool in order to unscrew and open the panel to access the place where the batteries go. My energetic boxer dogs are all about stuffed animals and when they include anything with noise they flip! When you squeeze it's belly the tail moves and a cute sound is made. This was one of the first toys I got my pup. She’s had it for two months or so now and it only has a few teeth holes in it, but she hasn’t destroyed it. I like the little black loop on its head so I can bounce it around when playing with her. And I like the fact it has a crinkly tail and that it’s a “quiet” squeaker. It was helpful when we were in an apartment so we wouldn’t disturb our neighbors. Plus I just like platypuses in general so win win.Janene
