Small Dog Running Partner For Sale (2024 Update)

This trailer is easy to open & get ready for the road (I wouldn't describe it as "assembly"– you're just opening it up and popping on wheels). The ride is smooth, and we haven't had any tipping issues (my dog weighs 32lb). It's not especially heavy compared to other dog trailers. It's simple to detach & reattach to your bike for use. My critiques are that the nylon material isn't super rugged or thick, so zip with care. I do wish the back door also had a mesh layer so that if you're riding with someone behind you, they could see the dog.name Nicole

I've been searching for a large pet trailer for a nearly 70Lb dog. Decided to go for the Schwinn Rascal Plus as the price point was decent, though I could not find a single review for this particular trailer. Almost all the reviews are for the regular Schwinn Rascal for up to 50Lb dogs. I didn't want to spend over $200 for a large trailer, especially one my dog may not use at all. SET UP: It didn't come with a manual so I needed to contact the manufacturer for one. I based my purchase on the reviews of the smaller Schwinn Rascal (for dogs up to 50Lbs) and assumed assembly and function would be similar in regards to how easy it is to put together. This isn't the case for the Rascal Plus. There are a lot of parts. When I got a hold of the manual, it isn't very user friendly and needs a lot more detail. It was a two person job to put everything together, and you do require a number of tools (no tools are included). The cross bar is what allows the trailer to fold for storage. For the Rascal Plus, the crossbar is VERY difficult to put in place. I needed assistance from someone who is physically strong and even for them it wasn't easy to secure into place. I'm now hesitant to collapse the trailer for storage because I'll need help to get it set up again. Wheels: The wheels make me anxious, quite honestly. It's a pin that holds it in place , not secured in any other way. I took the trailer out for a test drive and I can feel the trailer shaking a lot. I'm not sure how safe I would feel having a living being in this trailer on the road knowing that a simple metal pin/clip is holding the wheels in place. Just about most parts are held together by pins, that are released by pushing a metal clip out of the way. The trailer does tilt back quite a bit, maybe I need to adjust the tow bar coupler position on my bike but right now it isn't level. The Cabin: Large cabin however this isn't for tall/long dogs. For reference, my dog is 45" long from nose to the base of tail (sacrum area) and 30" tall. The inside diameter of the cabin is 31" in length, 22" width. I like that the weight capacity is high enough at least to hold the weight of the my dog, but also hold a significant amount of weight when I need to haul items. Fabric: I can't speak on durability of the fabric but it is very thin and the entire unit is covered in pressure marks. It could use reflective material for night time visibility, right now there is only 1 small red reflector attached to the back. The weight of this trailer is quite heavy. I have no idea if it's made out of aluminum or steel because the product details are different (for the regular Rascal trailer) on just about all sites I've visited. I can feel it when I cycle up a slight incline. I do also think the attachment interferes with the wheel in someway, like my wheels weren't moving as smoothly after installing this trailer. There's a fabric strap that gets caught near the chain plate, which I moved further away but then it doesn't clip back to the original loop and I had to clip it to the tow bar pin near the coupler.Holistic Pets

This is a great product for your pet. Our 53 lb. lab loves it. It has easy access from the back and she gets right in. There is plenty of room in the 2 pockets inside the trailer and a smaller pocket on top. I only gave it 4 stars because I had a hard time removing the piece off the latch while I was assembling it. It comes with a mat for the bottom of the carrier but we added a dog pad to make the ride more comfortable for our dog. The material seems sturdy and we leave the front open for her to enjoy the ride. It has a small lead leash to secure your pet for the ride. It pulled very well behind my bike. We have electric bikes and the trailer hitch fit just fine on the wheel hub.Staci J

There is a warning on this product to only start the screws with a power screwdriver. My advice is to use a hand screwdriver ONLY. The holes are drilled too large for the size screws that are used where even tightening by hand will strip the hole. Also, the many of the holes where the screws are hidden by plastic plugs are drilled too large where I had to shim the holes to get the plugs to stay in. Sad, because the design is attractive and the size is perfect for our dog. So long as it stays in one place, it shouldn't loosen up. However if I do see it loosening, I will simply disassemble it, apply wood glue to the joints and screw it back together with clamps until the glue dries. The manufacturer should be held accountable by LTDC for correcting these issues!BobD8487

I guess I should have figured it was poor quality with the price.As other sites were more but they seemed bigger so tried but not a good choice.The holes didn’t all line up. A couple started to split. Didn’t use power drill like recommended probably would have destroyed it. Back panels are a very thin and if pushed on by dog will break or pop out. Latch doesn’t stay closed so dog could figure out how to slide it open. And if using in house as end table anything you put on it will scratch it or spot it. Looks cheap.The pressed board pieces have a dull & shiny side which all don’t match. Going to have to repaint it with a paint that will hold up and maybe a piece of real wood or veneer on top to make it look presentable. Not happy and was told if you had to return it I would have to pay shipping! No more ordering on line or from this company.Lyn10

Purchased the dog crate because it seemed functional but attractive. The crate actually is finished nicely. But as we were putting it together we realized one of the back panel was not included. At that point we had the crate almost completed. I called Lakeside to inform them. They had me to take apart the crate, box it and send it back to them. They told me they would then send a replacement crate after they received the defective crate. I only needed one back panel. They informed me that they could not send just a part. Seems they made me jump through hoops to resolve this situation. I won't buy anything else from Lakeside that has parts or needs to be assembled.Minnie2069

Sending this back. Was excited to see my dog play with this. I knew by reading some reviews that I would need to teach her how to drop the balls in the machine. It work great for the first few minutes , then it stopped working. I unplugged it and waited thinking maybe it needed to reset but no. So I waited the next morning, tried it again and it worked but after a few minutes stopped again. So I’m returning it. But hope to find another type maybe just a gravity flow one.edty

I think the our little dog is training my partner. They are both having lots of fun. She is no longer bored and is so much fitter and happier. The deal at the moment is she will drop the ball for him to put in the machine, she wants him involved. The noise build up before firing is so exciting for her and she has it down to the millisecond. I know she will master it as she does sometimes, but it is more about them both playing that she loves the most.archibaldtheyounger

Bought this for my too poodle and he absolutely loves it. Hours of fun and exercise, just drop the ball in the top and it launches it and off he goes. Trying to train him to drop the ball in himself. Use on mains as the batteries don’t last long at all. Great buy, highly recommended. Not the cheapest toy for your dog but well worth it.Grant, Sydney

Excellent total package. Put a 70 lb strong active pit bull on this cable run and he's doing great. I considered going to the hardware store and purchasing all the items needed to build my own heavy duty dog run system but you can't do it for this package price. The leash is attached to an all steel well made unit that has a swivel so that the cable can't get twisted which is super important. The cable that runs between 2 big trees is 60 feet long which is a great length. The leash cable however is only 10 feet long. I'd like to see the leash maybe 12 to 15 feet long but 10 feet isn't bad. It all beats the heck out of a chain around a tree for sure. He's thrilled that he can now actually run back and fourth and seems so much happier.todd6939

The DogPacer is everything it promises and more. Quiet motor, check. Easy assembly, check. Variable height, adjustable speed, dog's ability to use it, check check check. My 35-lb Queensland Heeler only needed to stand on it and get off 3 times. When she stayed the 4th time, I turned it on and she hasn't looked back since. This is the ideal option for those of us who cannot for any reason exercise our dogs adequately. The Heeler is a high-energy herding breed and her two runs a day are essential to her mental and physical well being. The exercise allows her to be calm and to relax. I feel less guilty. A few features I'd like to highlight for those who have been comparing dog treadmills: the "wings" on the sides keep my dog from being distracted; the run length at 72 in is more than I thought I would need but I was wrong; it folds into 42 in but I haven't tried that yet. The range of paces is essential and to get the most work for the time invested,, I put mine on the high angle. The control panel is very clear and super easy to use. I received my treadmilll for my furkids yesterday. Didn't even read instructions but put together in less than 20 minutes. Easy! It just took me a minute to figure out what the two pins with circles on them were for. They lock the bottom bar that raises into place. I bought this to help me with my two larger Lhasa Apso mixes that are lazy and overweight. After setting it up I just let it sit in the living room overnight so the dogs all got used to it being in the house. I just played with the buttons to get some beeps so they could all hear the new noise, no problem. Then today I bribed my male Lhasa to walk up on it with a treat. Because he will do almost anything to get a treat this was way too easy. Because he looked completely comfortable on the treadmill I took a chance and turned it on the lowest speed. I kept the treats just out of reach but close enough for him to smell them. Within the first minute I turned up the speed and he was absolutely great with walking on it. Needless to say I was very surprised and he is a pro already on his very first try! My female Lhasa is going to take a little bit more coaxing as she is very timid of anything new but she did get on it without problem. I will try her again tomorrow. I have a total of 4 furkids and the littlest is a Lhasa Apso/Shih Tzu. She doesn't need the extra workout but she already loves getting on it and was walking the first time also. The fourth dog is a Pit Bull and he weighs too much for the mini treadmill I purchased but he wants on it also. With 4 dogs to try and walk enough I haven't been able to keep up. The two Lhasa's were rescue dogs and don't know how to play normally. We think they were caged as breeders. Any way the treadmill will be great for getting them the much needed walking they both need. Bottom line I am extremely happy with this treadmill!!! It is quiet and even the beeps aren't loud at all. Our Siberian Husky took to this treadmill quickly. He walks on it with no issues. Took about 3 tries and he was walking! We left off the bar and side pieces, as they are not really necessary for the function. It took a few tries to get the pace correct, but so nice there are many options for all different dogs. Our dog is very high energy. Having this indoor treadmill when the weather gets nasty will be a lifesaver. Great product. Super easy to get set up and started. My Mom is really enjoying the company this little guy offers. She has wanted a dog so bad but since she is in memory care it was not feasible. With new balls, and a new machine, the product is exactly as advertised. After 10 minutes of fetch, the ball is too wet to throw as expected. The ball gets dirty, and the machine does too, creating a muddy internal process. The balls sent with the machine were subpar quality, and lasted about 25 throws a piece before they were starting to come apart. The machine doesn't adjust for ball sizes, so as a tennis ball wears down, the machine can't grab it, and forget about a tennis ball without it's hairy skin, they are too small by far. It's charging good, and working well if I keep putting new tennis balls in it, and run a towel through it, (although that's hard to do.) I suggest a manual adjustment be added to future products, to change the distance between the wheels that grab the ball. I think a tiny tweak on my machine would allow it to through hard rubber balls that wouldn't get nearly as dirty or wet, and keep the machine cleaner. Overall, I think the product is good, but is flawed in design. If there were just a few more capacities to make it work in the field and with different ball sizes, I think it's be a very strong product.Adam T.

I liked the reviews on Amazon as I was deciding which treadmill to buy. Lifepro got very good reviews, and when I looked at all the "84 questions answered" that accompanied the reviews, I was amazed to see that the company answered them. The treadmill came in two days–really fast.
The video on how to assemble the PawRunner dog treadmill made it easy for a friend and me to do the job! We didn't get a single piece upside down or backward, and they sent extras of washers and velcro. My only problem is that the tread is SO TIGHT on the bed of the machine that raising it up to apply the lubricant is impossible to do as directed (to put a line of lube down the middle). That's about the only thing they don't have a video for. I looked at other manufacturers' videos; pretty much the same directions but their tread was much looser or able to be loosened. We purchased this as a bridge to make our two captains chairs into a bench seat for the dog. In addition, we needed something to keep the dog from climbing into the front seat. It worked very well for both. It fit perfectly in our Ford Expedition back seat – width and length. We stretched a piece of plywood across the two seats first (as added support) and then put the Pet Bridge on top. It's comfortable for the dog to lay on and did not slide around. I have a Great Dane and a regular hammock for the back seat of my pick up wasn't enough. He kept falling down, now with the bridge, it acts as one one seat. If you gave a large breed dog, I highly recommend this Bridge and also recommend Frontpet.Thomas F.

I received this wheelchair for my dog, surprisingly only a couple of days after I ordered it and on a Sunday no less. I found all the pieces , none were missing and the product indeed looked new, not refurbished. It took me two hours to put this together, adjusting and readjusting and figuring out where to put the shafts of the cart into the harness. Very frustrating. I've put harness' thousands of times on harness racing horses and have never seen a harness like this. I finally figured it out with the help of a man who bought one and had had the same problem. By the.third walk she is thrilled with it, tail wagging and a happy look to her face. She actually wanted to go on a longer walk than the ten minutes, twice a day, indoctrination period, but I decided against it, not wanting to over due. My next step is getting her to put her legs in the hanging straps. She doesn't want to do that at all and stretches the slings down to the ground so she can try and walk with her hind legs. If any of you have any tips, I'd be happy to listen. Bottom line, good quality, lightweight and worth the money.mhami46

We have a 15-year-old husky, and having had a prolapsed disc in his neck 2-years ago, he was left with some hind leg weakness. As he's aged, he struggles to walk very far, so the time came when we thought a cart would help him go further, as mentally he is still really active and wants to do things. I checked reviews on a number of carts, and for the price, this looked and came up best. I saw a seller refurbished one (large), bought it, and it was delivered within 2-days. The cart is very well made – super-impressed for the price. Fairly easy to put together, and it has a comprehensive manual with it. I estimated most of the initial length/height for out lad, put him i it, made a couple of adjustments, and we took him for a trial run yesterday. Initially, we though the sports harness looked a bit evil, but it actually supports them very well and our lad showed no signs of discomfort. He can also be a bit panicky, but once he was in and attached, he just walked off! After the initial trial, I noted it needed to be slightly higher on his back end, so raised it an inch, which is also easy to do. The wheels/tyres are brill! Proper tyres, and not cheap plastic ones, which has to help in different terrain/uneven surface. A few people mentioned it tipping, but I cannot envisage thishappening with our boy, as he's not that fast, and it was bought more to allow him to walk further, as running/fast pace has sadly long gone for him. I could see it happening with a more active dog, however, so that's something to be aware of until they get used to it and how it works with their style of exercise. The first thing I had 2 do was fit and sew all adjustable straps on the front harness to prevent them from slipping. They just kept on coming undone. I also had 2 add additional clip, buckel on harness 4 easier application on the animal. Once I did this the one paw in and one paw out fight stopped. I found that all rubber caps come flying off of unit constantly and u r left with search and desire. With the Rubber caps missing on side arm bars and the front harness adjusted completely down onto the side bars u have trouble maintaining the side arm bars in the harness. Connectors attaching the rear straps to the rear harness bar pulls hair out of the animals tail. With rear leg straps on the animal defecates on themselves. Had 2 put socks on animal and let him drag feet. New problem rear harness has starting to rub animal. Use extream caution product is light weight and will turn over easily. My animal only needed some assistance but once he turned this unit over he lost all mobility in his back legs and I just turned my head 4 a sec. The product is highly priced being that its made of aluminum and all parts bend easily. Now that I have gotten some of the adjustments worked out on this product it is easier on me and my animal. do NOT use for kittens. i brought one for my kitten and he's now known as the escaping. he climbed and jumped over the gate. when i fixed that, he twisted his head and got through one of the holes. i fixed that as well and he's still somehow getting out. if you are wondering how i "fixed" that, i used mesh wiring. this product probably works great with dogs, but cats are a different story.uzziah

My dad's dog is getting older and has been unable to go on long walks for a while now, which has been a hinderance for my dad, especially during the pandemic when long walks have been a favorite activity for many!
