Small Dog Riding Big Dog For Sale (2024 Update)

This trailer is easy to open & get ready for the road (I wouldn't describe it as "assembly"– you're just opening it up and popping on wheels). The ride is smooth, and we haven't had any tipping issues (my dog weighs 32lb). It's not especially heavy compared to other dog trailers. It's simple to detach & reattach to your bike for use. My critiques are that the nylon material isn't super rugged or thick, so zip with care. I do wish the back door also had a mesh layer so that if you're riding with someone behind you, they could see the dog.name Nicole

I've been searching for a large pet trailer for a nearly 70Lb dog. Decided to go for the Schwinn Rascal Plus as the price point was decent, though I could not find a single review for this particular trailer. Almost all the reviews are for the regular Schwinn Rascal for up to 50Lb dogs. I didn't want to spend over $200 for a large trailer, especially one my dog may not use at all. SET UP: It didn't come with a manual so I needed to contact the manufacturer for one. I based my purchase on the reviews of the smaller Schwinn Rascal (for dogs up to 50Lbs) and assumed assembly and function would be similar in regards to how easy it is to put together. This isn't the case for the Rascal Plus. There are a lot of parts. When I got a hold of the manual, it isn't very user friendly and needs a lot more detail. It was a two person job to put everything together, and you do require a number of tools (no tools are included). The cross bar is what allows the trailer to fold for storage. For the Rascal Plus, the crossbar is VERY difficult to put in place. I needed assistance from someone who is physically strong and even for them it wasn't easy to secure into place. I'm now hesitant to collapse the trailer for storage because I'll need help to get it set up again. Wheels: The wheels make me anxious, quite honestly. It's a pin that holds it in place , not secured in any other way. I took the trailer out for a test drive and I can feel the trailer shaking a lot. I'm not sure how safe I would feel having a living being in this trailer on the road knowing that a simple metal pin/clip is holding the wheels in place. Just about most parts are held together by pins, that are released by pushing a metal clip out of the way. The trailer does tilt back quite a bit, maybe I need to adjust the tow bar coupler position on my bike but right now it isn't level. The Cabin: Large cabin however this isn't for tall/long dogs. For reference, my dog is 45" long from nose to the base of tail (sacrum area) and 30" tall. The inside diameter of the cabin is 31" in length, 22" width. I like that the weight capacity is high enough at least to hold the weight of the my dog, but also hold a significant amount of weight when I need to haul items. Fabric: I can't speak on durability of the fabric but it is very thin and the entire unit is covered in pressure marks. It could use reflective material for night time visibility, right now there is only 1 small red reflector attached to the back. The weight of this trailer is quite heavy. I have no idea if it's made out of aluminum or steel because the product details are different (for the regular Rascal trailer) on just about all sites I've visited. I can feel it when I cycle up a slight incline. I do also think the attachment interferes with the wheel in someway, like my wheels weren't moving as smoothly after installing this trailer. There's a fabric strap that gets caught near the chain plate, which I moved further away but then it doesn't clip back to the original loop and I had to clip it to the tow bar pin near the coupler.Holistic Pets

This is a great product for your pet. Our 53 lb. lab loves it. It has easy access from the back and she gets right in. There is plenty of room in the 2 pockets inside the trailer and a smaller pocket on top. I only gave it 4 stars because I had a hard time removing the piece off the latch while I was assembling it. It comes with a mat for the bottom of the carrier but we added a dog pad to make the ride more comfortable for our dog. The material seems sturdy and we leave the front open for her to enjoy the ride. It has a small lead leash to secure your pet for the ride. It pulled very well behind my bike. We have electric bikes and the trailer hitch fit just fine on the wheel hub.Staci J

The ramp helps our dog. The only criticism is it would be better if two felt rectangles could be attached to each end of the ramp, (one for the top and one for the bottom) so it is not so slippy for him when he is climbing up it. I was able to find some felt squares that I attached in intervals going up the ramp, but a larger rectangle for each end would be much better.Elizabeth

My dogs are both pretty big, with both weighing around 110 pounds and sometimes it is harder for them to jump up into my families vehicles. I am so glad to own this now, as it makes travel time so much easier and much more streamlined. Instead of taking several minutes trying to lift them into my truck, I am able to easily take out the ramp and set it up and have them walk up the ramp in a minute or so. I love that this ramp folds up and doesn't take up a lot of room as I store it in my trunk. Having it in my trunk makes it so much easier to just load my dogs up and go for an adventure or to take them to their appointments. My husband threw his hip out, so this ramp has been a huge help to me personally. I love how sturdy this ramp is as well, I do not have to worry about it buckling or being unsteady while my dogs are on it. I want to purchase another one of these for my other vehicle, I love it so much. This ramp will be even handier when my family is able to go camping, as we love going on many adventures. I needed one of these for my dog who just happened to have surgery on his hip. This ramp made is easier for him to get in and out of the truck safely without injuring himself after surgery. Easy to set up and is not very heavy which is a huge plus. This would work for almost any breed of dog in my opinion as its fairly sturdy and is large. Great for senior pets, or even pets who are nervous about getting in and out of vehicles. Or also perfect for your pet after having a surgery like mine. Appears to be sturdy enough. It would be nicer if it had a carry handle, and the latch that is supposed to hold it together from unfolding is useless. I thought the “sandpaper” surface would not bother my dog; but I was wrong. It’s not so much a gritty surface like sandpaper, but tiny plastic bristles—one of which stuck painfully in my finger, so I understand her reluctance to use it. I tried covering it with a rug runner, but after her first experience, my dog doesn’t want anything to do with it. So, I may try again later with a rug on it and see if she will use it. I got it to use for getting into the car as well as for use in the house. It’s as transportable as anything its size, but a handle and an effective latch would improve portability.FLMeemaw

We purchased this as a bridge to make our two captains chairs into a bench seat for the dog. In addition, we needed something to keep the dog from climbing into the front seat. It worked very well for both. It fit perfectly in our Ford Expedition back seat – width and length. We stretched a piece of plywood across the two seats first (as added support) and then put the Pet Bridge on top. It's comfortable for the dog to lay on and did not slide around. I have a Great Dane and a regular hammock for the back seat of my pick up wasn't enough. He kept falling down, now with the bridge, it acts as one one seat. If you gave a large breed dog, I highly recommend this Bridge and also recommend Frontpet.Thomas F.

I moved to an apartment recently and I walk with my dog every day. They have a 'nature walk' area where she can investigate to her heart's content, and this leash keeps her safe yet allows her to go look at the irresistible twigs and bugs that dogs seem to always want to check out. I just received this stroller. It was pretty easy to assemble and is nice quality. As others have commented, it's BIG and fairly heavy, which I'm hoping won't deter me from using it. It seems it will have a smooth ride and very comfortably fit my two yorkies though, which was paramount in choosing it. I'd intended to sell my inexpensive stroller once I had this one, but I'm going to hang on to it for days only one dog will be riding and I don't feel up to dealing with the size and weight of this stroller.Anonymous

This is the second Pet Gear stroller I have purchased, so we now have both a single and a double wide. Both are of good quality and easy to use and handle (folding, putting in the car, etc.) The zipperless variety is much better for general use. It has a single latch at the front edge while the zipper connection seems so much more fragile. The only problem I've had is with the wheel attachment to the axle. In essence, a groove on the axle is caught by a spring-metal clip running through the wheel hub. It's easy to mishandle (or have it arrive in the box) the assembly so that the clip comes off the hub or no longer catches the groove in the axle, and there is no detail about the assembly in the instructions. Turns out it's a fairly easy fix, but took some time because it's not at all obvious how the clip is placed, as the placement is not visible and you don't want to break something fiddling around. The Pet Gear support team could only offer a new entire wheel for $25. I would suggest that instructions include a schematic of that assembly.corsairii_pilot

This is my second Sporn Harness purchase. I have an American Staffy and find it very difficult to keep him in check when he sees another dog. The Sporn Harness just gives me much more control and a confidence in walking him. The Harness is easy to put on the dog and also adjust if you need to. Recommend this product.blueymck96

I am so excited about this harness! For the first time ever my dog is a pleasure to walk. I have a three year old border collie who always wants to be the leader and tries to pull my arms off. I will be honest and say I haven't put in enough time to train her, but she is so ADHD that I end up so angry. Walking her usually leaves me furious and swearing I will never try again. Until I bought the Sporn Halter Harness! Instantly I had control of her, without feeling forceful at all. Have tried several harnesses to help with our super hard pulling Frenchie so was a bit cynical that anything could help him but really surprised to say how well this is working. Only downside is how long the adjustable tether is so if you want to take the lead off it hangs off him and he could almost trip, a bigger dog would probably not have this problem.cindy09

This is a great product, but one that is difficult to find (because it is called 'car seat extender"). It is an excellent organizer and dogs can stand on it, especially when combined with a back-seat sling for them. It would be better if there were handles on it, so that I could move them out of the way for human passengers.eichling

The company acknowledges that it can not withstand even a quick nip from your dog. Ridiculously poor quality. Their answer is for you to spend another 12.99 for a warranty to get another harnass which will do the same thing. Awful product that is expensive. Dismissive and unethical customer service. I contacted the company and provided pictures and they replaced it right away. Great product and great service.

Just know that this isn’t a miracle product that will completely stop your dog from pulling. It’s not a replacement for training. YOU as the owner have to teach your dog proper leash manners. But if you want more control, or you have a reactive dog, I definitely recommend this.Rachel Cormier

I bought the teal blue & the lavender color for 2 of my dogs & these fit great! Definitely go by the measurements listed as it helps choosing the correct size. I have similar ones with a hoodie which are great for the cold weather. This style without a hood is great for Spring, & chilly nights. It’s really a great stroller. Took me about 4 minutes to assemble it out of the box you don’t even need to use instructions it’s that simple. Very easy to maneuver and to fold up for putting in my truck. Granted it doesn’t quite fit my dog but sort of knew that when I bought it – that it was going to be a VERY tight fit. We have a 95 lb English Creme Golden Retriever so he cannot ride in it with the top down, I just keep it up. But he loves it. And I love the water bottle holders and little storage compartment for his poop bags and a tennis ball! It’s suoer easy for Kota to get in and out of it. I have to sort of manipulate his position when he gets on and lays down just to make sure he’s on the “flatbed” (that’s what we call it now because it’s more like a flatbed than a stroller the way we use it). I’ve thought about cutting out the mesh in front so he could use it with the top down – I’d need to cut the mesh out of front so his legs could dangle out. This is one of the most economical strollers out there and it really is worth every penny. I also got it on sale for Black Friday through Stateline. I bought this unit for my companion dog because we both have osteoarthritis plus he has Lyme disease and seizures. . He had a seizure in the street last fall and we had to stop taking our walks. Now I won't have to walk with a cane while holding a leash and when it gets to be too much for him he can ride safely while I finish our route. It's still too cold to to use it yet but I love the size, color, and openness of the unit. Not sure how noisy the plastic wheels will be on cement. Once the cup holder is in place you can't open the back door without removing it. The lock on the front is kinda iffy, doesn't unlock very well when the button is pushed. Box was damaged and it caused a 2 inch tear in the mesh of the back door. Good thing I can sew it shut.Gypsy

This is an outstanding product! We have a 10-year old, 65lb German Shepherd who now has trouble making it over the hills at our nearby lake. So we take the stroller with us and use it on the hills. From someone who cringes at the phrase "some assembly required," trust me that the set-up was a breeze, with clear instructions and no tools required; a 5-min job. It collapses for transport in a snap, and unfolds just as easily for use (we have a Subaru Forester, and the stroller can fit on its side between the front and back seats, or stow securely in the cargo area). Our "passenger" can easily enter/exit from front or back, and the hood at top can be opened. It runs and turns smoothly (front wheels are castorized), and the handlebar height is adjustable. We initially thought that it might be too short for our dog to lie down in, but she's fine as long as she curls a little, which is her natural lying posture anyway. The only thing I would suggest is that the designers add a vent at the front, that can be folded down such that the 'passenger' can poke his/her nose out. The hood on top is fine while she's sitting, but it would be nice if she could poke her nose and face out front while lying down. No complaints, though. I tried a couple different styles of packs to carry my Shichon dog Louie with me on my motorcycle. I never felt really comfortable till I found your site. He loves it! He gets all excited when he sees me grabbing it and makes it easy for me to get him in it. We travel all over the place. The pockets are perfect for a bag of biscuits, a collapsible water bowl, a leash and the waste bags. My husband and I go on some longer rides, so we stop, let him stretch his legs, relieve himself and he is ready to hit the road again. I was apprehensive at first, but the wheelchair has turned out to be a life saver for my 15 year old pal who recently lost the use of his rear legs. Great quality, they seem to have thought of everything when they (expertly) designed this product. My dog took to it immediately, like he had been using it his whole life. This product has done wonders for my dog who had a herniated disc requiring surgery on Jan 2022. Working with our rehabilitation veterinarian, who sized the device and worked with the company to expedite our delivery, my dog has continued to make progress toward a better gait. The device clearly provides him a good workout, but also ensures his posture, which was becoming hunched, is far improved. More importantly, my dog has confidence that he didn’t have with PT alone. Lt. Dan came to me in August 2016 as a foster dog. He was rescued from the San Bernardino Shelter by the Barking Lot Rescue, minutes before being euthanized due to his spinal injury. Our guess is that he was injured from being hit by a car. I am a woman with a small frame but fit. My boyfriend and I bought this for our trail runs and hikes with our German Shepard mix. We often travel through rattle snake country. Our dog is close to 90 pounds! For me it’s too much weight to carry for a long period but I still carry the Airlift with me so I have a tool to solicit help from others with. My boyfriend can carry our dog confidently over rough terrain and actually had to use the airlift a few months ago when our dog got a bad cactus thorn wedged in his paw! The Airlift worked well. My dog injured his paws while hiking a 14,000 ft peak. I’m so glad I bought an Airlift rescue sling. I was able to carry him safely back to the car. It was a lot of work but without the sling, there’s no way I would have been able to carry him. I would suggest buying the shoulder padding if you have a large dog. Extremely disappointed in the omission of pertinent information on this product. As an avid solo backpacker regularly playing in the Rockies with large dogs, it was due time to invest in a product that would help in an unfortunate emergency. I am grateful we tried this out beforehand to know it’s useless for my body. As a once female collegiate basketball player and consistent weightlifter, there is no way-even with adrenaline-I would be able to lift my dog from a kneeling position to then being on one knee to standing. I ordered a medium which was well within the weight limits of our puppers (60 lbs). Even with my spouse’s help, the lift wasn’t possible. Only males are featured on the available product images; however, I don’t know a female or male in our network that could make this lift for a larger dog. Additionally, the straps dig in to your shoulders (skin scraping) but it seems inconsiderate to charge an additional $25 for ONE shoulder pad rather than include the padding to help an owner in a distressing situation. Good car seat and it allows our small cockapoo to see out of the window when riding. The main reason for the purchase was to potentially help with our dog’s motion sickness. It does help it seems. I rated the product a 4 instead of 5 because the pillow provided is extremely thin so the hard “floor” of the seat can be felt underneath as if there was no pillow at all which seemed to crest discomfort. I had to buy a thicker pillow to replace the blanket-thin one which helped our dog feel more comfortable (less sick while riding).DAustin

After using the soft side Solvit car seat for several years, I was hoping for a larger and a more structured seat. This unit provides much more protection with the solid, strong frame- especially for a side impact. The inner space provides very little additional space for my little gal to comfortably lie down to sleep on longer drives. The inner cushion provided is totally inadequate. It slides out when she jumps into the seat and provides very little cushioning from the hard plastic frame bottom. A thin chair pad with a non slip bottom provides a perfect solution. This was a life saver. My pug is 15 and needs help getting up and down from couch. It has 3 positions so it is not steep for an older dog to use. It is ready to use right out of the box. Looks like a nice piece of furniture. It is not to long and can be used in the smallest spaces. The carpet like material on the ramp, also has slip resistant material on it (like what is on the bottom of socks). The dogs love it and it does not bother their feet. When going down the ramp, they can go as slow as needed and not slide down. I highly recommend this product. It will not work with really high beds or trucks unless you add to it. But it is perfect for anything else including cars (if needed) It is very light and easy to move around. It is very sturdy and does not move when dogs are using it. Even my younger dog loves it and she is scared of everything. The first day we got it we used treats to get them to use it. I only took a few minutes and they loved it. We had foam stairs before this but my older dog was still having issues using it. Because of the material of the stairs, when going down, it would force her to go fast and slide. This does not do that and allows them to go as slow as possible (I know I repeated this but it truly makes a difference for an older or injured dog/cat.)Nic

This item is a great product for it's price. Many others like it are easily twice as much. Has 3 adjustable height settings. Great for small dogs. If you have a puppy this is a key item. this is the shorter length ramp. Not sure who they made it for?? Goats maybe?? because the incline is insane…. 😀 really! A dog that can climb that steep incline, and easily jump! So again, VERY POOR design and unusable. I'd guess a 67-70 degree incline – so crazy!! Don't buy this!adw899
