Reviews:
The XL size can be hard to find. Was out-of-stock at Petmate, so I signed up for an e-mail alert when in stock. I am confident I received an alert just as soon as it was being manufactured. I really appreciate that. I ordered two for my Aussies. Yes, is a tad large for them, but they've used this size since they were young, and sleep in them. They can turn around easily in them, the crate has very good air movement, and the sides are straight with no lost space inside as so many have with curved sides. One cover was damaged in shipment. I let Petmate know on a weekend and got an immediate response from customer service. I just sent them a picture of the damage and had a new crate in a few days. Great experience all around. Shipping cost was high, but that's part of the time we live in. I'd been looking for this crate at other locations for a few years. Never found it in XL. Was well worth the shipping cost to me. This is my second purchase directly from Petmate — each experience has been great.
My first impression was the quality of the plastic crate. Sturdy and attractive. And it was simple to put together. Everything lined up nicely. I purchased this for my rescue with separation anxiety. He struggled with the metal crate, fretting no matter how short the time in the crate. It was recommended by our trainer to purchase a plastic crate "from Tractor Supply." My furbaby was initially hesitant but has quickly acclimated to his new den. In a matter of 1 week, he walks right in – hesitatingly – but he does it. I am very pleased with this purchase.Hens Mom
So my dogs are rescues. The first one hated the metal wire crate. 3 years & another rescue added to our pack I decided to try crating again to save my home. I was a bit nervous because this was a huge investment – I purchased 2 cates & 2 crate beds. I assembled the crates in the bedroom where they would be placed. I allowed my dogs to watch me and inspect. I even stood inside the crate before assembling so they could see. I put in the cushy furry bed, got a treat, said kennel up and Bam! They climbed right in, I closed the door and gave them their treat. They absolutely LOVE their crates. When they get frightened from the thunder & lightning, they kennel up and are happier & safer. When we have people coming to visit, especially new to the pups, I kennel them up about 10 minutes before guests arrive. Once guests show up, I explain to them to ignore the dogs when I let them out. Just let them come up to you and sniff you. This has worked wonders for our 2nd rescue to feel safe. Our family can't image life without these crates. They are sturdy as well.aegisprncs

We have tried many Kennels/Crates for our dog, she suffers from Anxiety and nothing has kept her as safe as this kennel. Any metal kennel, regardless of how indestructible it has advertised to be, we have come home to a scraped up bleeding dog that is out in the house and destroying things. She is a pitbull and she chews through anything. The kennels that are plastic with the metal grates on the side she chews on the door and breaks the metal on the sides and at this point has ruined her teeth. We have put her in the Ruff Land Performance kennel twice, once for two hours, great success and once for an entire day. She was calmer, and no blood or destruction to the crate. Wish I had seen this crate 9 years ago. Another feature we like is that it has a flat floor, rather than one that is either metal grating or has a few round circles protruding to allow stacking of kennels. We are amazed and so thankful to have this crate. I would recommend this crate to any dog owner. I can't say enough good about it.Diana B
I purchased this kennel about a month ago for a new pup. As a young dog in the back seat of the truck with two full grown Retreivers, I wanted to ensure she was safe and secure. The kennel is made of top notch materials, fits nicely on the back seat and is tied down to the child seat anchors. Best of all, this is the first travel kennel I've ever owned that the door doesn't rattle. Over a long day of travel, it makes a big difference. Well done, Ruffland.Mark 390
We tried the reinforced wire crates with no success. If he could get out, he would. The next step was possibly getting those ultra reinforced crates that cost almost a thousand dollars and almost require financing. This has been the perfect compromise. It’s sturdy and durable. It obviously has a little weight to it, but it’s definitely manageable. Hands down if something happens to this crate that isn’t caused by our dog, I’ll buy it again and again.Jennahboo92

Reviews:
Bought this for our 7 month old Pyrador puppy, who has already outgrown one house. It was easy to put together, and the sturdist dog house we've ever seen. Plus being insulated is perfect for a cold Indiana winter. She's huge and still growing and loves it. The first night she slept in front of it despite dog treats inside. Second night was cooler, she decided to check it out so the head and front paws went thru the swinging door first, and after she had stood that way for about 5 minutes, walked all the way in, and has loved it ever since. From the size if it unless she grows as much as Clifford the big red dog, she'll get to enjoy for a lifetime.PJ
It’s a great doghouse. He’s already tried chewing the top roof corners off but it hasn’t hurt the integrity of the house. He also won’t get in it. I’m not sure why, because he did get in his crate when it was in his dog pen. He’s a 9 month old GSP. I’m hopeful once he reaches adulthood he’ll stop eating it and actually get in it. I’d totally buy it again though. It’s a great doghouse! I just have a strange dog. He also can’t get on top of it because there isn’t any grip and he slides off. That helps with him not jumping out of the 6’ tall pen.
We got this house for a new Boxador puppy so that it can spend most of its time outside. We found it to be a good product. It was easy to put together and does stay much warmer than the outside air. In rainy weather, it stays dry. It is a very large house which would work for a lab or other large dog. No problems with the dog using the door. Only suggestion: add nuts and bolts for the 6 screws. Screwing metal into plastic is not a real good plan. I'm assuming the company will have replacement parts (door, window, etc…) available for my investment!Y Robinson

This is a good quality, sturdy plastic dog house. We have a medium sized German Shepherd and he easily fits in the large dog kennel and has room to curl up and sleep. It does a pretty good job keeping the rain out, only a little splattering of water gets in in the front but not too bad. Overall, quite happy with the purchase!angelnadie

Not well made. Product plastic to thin and flimsy. Dog can bite right through it. Cute I like the way it looks.Disappointed
Arrived quickly. Easy to set up. Very light. Some small pieces might blow away with heavy wind, like the screw covers on roof and the side panel that only holds shut with two flimsy removable tabs. Not for a large dog, but my medium 35 lbs dog likes it and fit snug inside. Dog house looks nice and can be moved easily.Anonymous

7. Ruffwear Gnawt-A-Cone Dog Toy Metolius Blue.
Product Details:
Its no mistake that the gnawt-a-cone dog toy looks the part of a ponderosa pine cone. the designers at ruff wear drew inspiration from their beloved bend, oregon backyard when designing this fun and functional dog toy. constructed of durable, chew-resistant latex rubber, the toy is obviously great fun for simple throw and fetch activities, but it has some performance features too. multi-faceted sides effectively massage your dogs gums as it enjoys play. this design also causes erratic bounces to keep your dog guessing and add a surprise element of fun. a sizable internal chamber can stash biscuits or other treats to aid in training or simply add to the fun.
Specifications:
Weight | 1 lb |
Reviews:
Loves this more than his kongs! Super fun to throw and have it bounce random directions. We tried one out and loved it and have since bought multiple so he can always find a toy to bring us instead of my kid’s slippers/toys/socks. They have all held up well. He is a strong chewer and has worked his way through other “indestructible” toys. I don’t think he is the top level chewer though.Anna G.
One of the few dog toys my husky can chew to death and not destroy. It’s the toy she’s had the longest and it has lasted the best. It’s also awesome how it bounces sporadically because it keeps my smartypants pup guessing. It’s one of her faves. I will probably be buying all the other rubber toys ruffwear makesWhitney F.
Thoughtful evolutions of classic dog toys, with many notable improvements. Both dogs love these toys for outdoor play — we have a 5 yo and a pup. Rubber material is a good balance of pliability and durability. The elegant adaptations of organic shapes dogs love, the surface interest, and the bright, primary palette makes these toys very appealing and interesting for chasers, chewers, throwers, and even modern design historians. The lighter weight means I don’t worry about the toy breaking someone’s teeth when our pups catch them on the fly. We have -Cone and -Stick. Easy to clean. Well done!Jennifer L.
8. Ruffwear Flagline Dog Harness – Sage Green – Small
Product Details:
The flagline harness is a fast, light, and comfortable body harness with a nimble design that keeps dogs in their flow, from scrambling in the backcountry to conquering everyday obstacles. a handle and load-dispersing chest/belly panel make for easy lift-and-assist in a minimal design good for all-day wear. high adjustability and easy on/off make the flagline secure and accessible, especially popular among tripods, deeming it the harness of choice for giving dogs a little boost and a lot of freedom when the path ahead is anything but flat.
Specifications:
Reviews:
I was so excited to receive the harness – it seemed like a huge upgrade from the old one I bought from Tractor Supply that my dog was using. Well. It took twice as long as expected to arrive which is ridiculous when I paid for shipping. The shipping fees were refunded, but I had purchased the item with the intent to use it by a specific date which didn’t happen since it didn’t arrive until MUCH later. When it finally did show up the package was ripped almost completely open and the packaging of the product was all messed up which is also ridiculous. Alright it’s here, looks like **** but it’s here. It’s a much brighter blue than I expected which I like. It took a little while to figure out how to adjust as the ends were so firmly tucked into the harness I thought I was going to break it. Finally got it on and adjusted and “Meh”. It’s not deep enough (front to back) in my opinion, and my dog is not an odd or unusual shape. I do like that it covers less surface area, she appears to stay cooler (but a double coated black dog in the humid Midwest is always hot). It does sag when wet (which is almost always as she swims regularly) BUT it dries and goes back to the original fit which is a pro I guess. I say I guess because I didn’t expect a harness I paid over $80 to sag at all when wet but ♀ It doesn’t show any wear yet which it shouldn’t for only having it 2 weeks. It does shift like crazy. Not as bad as the cheap tractor supply one, but again I expected ZERO shifting from the $80+ harness. Honestly I probably won’t buy again. I was super excited to find a harness with everything I wanted: reflectors (which the ones on this harness ****, seriously for $80 y’all couldn’t put reflective piping on all edges?!), a handle on the back, bright blue, goes over the head/ NOT a step through and had a back leash clip. But honestly I’m pretty disappointed. There is a lot of room for improvement in what I consider an expensive harness (more reflective piping, padding under the middle set of buckles, better fit, better choice of shipping carriers). I’m not going to get rid of it and it does fit better than the Tractor Supply but I don’t absolutely love it like I hoped.Seva P.
My girl discovered early on that she can back out of her harness in a heartbeat. She can't back out of the Flagline harness (yay!) and – more importantly – if needed, I can pull on the leash / harness without fear of hurting her. (There have been a couple times when we've encountered dogs who are too friendly — having the Flagline harness on my girl made it much easier to pull her back to a safe distance without fear of hurting her or having the harness pop off at a bad time.) The harness is easy to put on / take off. It's strong. The reflective trim helps make her more visible. The adjustable straps make it easy to size up during the winter time when she's got winter coat(s) to accommodate. Having clips for closure is so much nicer than harnesses with velcro closures. (Velcro closure doesn't last long – and trying to wash anything with velcro – oy veh!) The price was a little more than I thought I'd spend for a harness – but having a harness I can trust and that will last is worth every penny. 100% recommend!Karen G.
The harness is super adjustable and fits my pups barrel chest so well! We wanted the waist clip as the single rib clip always slipped off or got loose and it wasn’t enough security for us. We also really love the handles! The front loop works super well to mitigate some pulling (pups only 8 months old) and my favorite feature is the inner material that rests on his body, it’s not mesh or fabric that his short coat sticks into so his hair isn’t being rubbed off or sticking in the harness getting stuck in cracks and making it itchy or difficult to clean. This harness is also super easy to wash and I really love the hardy materials on this harness. Wish it came in orange but the grey works just as well on our pup! This harness just fits Róka so well and I’m so pleased with it!!!! It fits and contours to his whole body and moves with him when he’s moving around! Thanks so much for an awesome product!!!Kassandra H.

Reviews:
After watching video reviews of the top brands, we chose this Ruffwear PFD for our Golden Retriever. We are happy with the purchase, except for one thing that is very important to us. The clip ring on the top of the jacket, under the handle is made of plastic instead of metal. Since we use this on a boat and need to clip her to a lifeline, this flimsy plastic clip ring is totally inadequate. The ring on the photo on the stock photo on the Moosejaw site looks beefier than what we got. See attached pic. We'll replace it with a more substantial stainless hook or clip. Other than that, great jacket. Would have given it 5 stars if it weren't for the thin plastic clip. Concerning Moosejaw, great company as always. They get 5 stars!Scott
We absolutely love this life jacket! We used a cheap one last year while our pup was growing, but now that he's fully grown we wanted something that will last. This jacket is super functional and really easy for our pup to get on and off. It gives him so much confidence swimming and he goes in on his own now and will swim around past where he can stand all by himself, without needing someone in the water. We love this jacket so much. It's really durable, but not too bulky or heavy. The quality is 10/10. The grab handle is a must and it's nice and strong so it can actually be used if needed. We definitely recommend this jacket.Faith D.
I posted a 3 star review two days ago about the float coat. The lack of a five star review was due to what I assumed was a sizing issue. My dog is a medium, however, the girth straps on the medium float coat were lying directly on my dogs abdomen when clipped, so the sides of the life jacket did not fully meet underneath my dog. The concern with this is that when my dog is swimming, the buoyancy of the jacket would naturally cause the jacket to float towards the surface of the water. In other words, the area of my dog that experiences the closest contact with the lifejacket while swimming, is the area of the life jacket with the least amount of padding (the exposed girth straps). If I have to haul my dog out of the water with the handle, those straps are digging into my dog's abdomen without any padding. Again, I assumed this was maybe a sizing mistake on my part. However, Ruffwear responded to my review and said that the exposed girth straps on my dog's stomach are not a sizing issue and that "the foam padding does not have to touch under their belly". Now that I know this is a design choice rather than a sizing issue, I'm changing my review to 1 star. If a sport-worthy/high activity human PFD's greatest point of contact with the body was two straps, we would never consider that PFD safe enough to put on the market. Ruffwear talks a big game about rigorous testing of all of their products, but I don't see how their product designers can think that this is an acceptable product. My dog's belly was red and chaffing after just one day of use because of the straps, so I am pretty sure that the foam padding does have to touch under their belly. I also want to mention that I'm not an internet-complainer and I don't just troll around all day writing bad reviews. However, I am a huge dog gear junkie and I am frequently buying and trying new dog gear. Ruffwear used to always set the standard for quality and thoughtfulness in their products, but they have been disappointing me a lot in their newer designs. This is just another nail in the coffin for me.Liz

We got a puppy and had to scramble for the essentials. This Stash Bag was at the top of the list. It easily clips to a belt loop or a leash handle, holds one roll of waste bags (comes with one earth rated already in place), and plenty of room for training treats. Our training rewards are his normal dog food (Purina One Plus) and some of the kibble bits get in the waste roll side but honestly it’s not a big deal at all and the kibble can easily be moved around by tipping the bag upside down. Also – Zipper are great. Super high quality. We love all of the Ruffwear products we have including this one.Clark
We've been through several styles of "poo bag" holders. Having one that attaches to the leash so it doesn't bang around is the way to go. This is the first one we've had where you don't lose the next bag when you pull one out. The slit is a brilliant idea, and if you're having trouble, lay the roll in the bag horizontally and they'll pull out perfectly. Love that there's a key spot and room for a sanitizing wipe (just in case). Only issue is a small one, that one of the little strings on one zipper fell off, but I can put something else there. Never thought a poo bag holder would be worth this price, but this one really is.Kali
I saw how the reviews on here decreased the ratings due to the difficulty in dispensing and I was one of those when I initially bought it, so I’m going to share the secret…. Here it is: turn the bag roll sideways in the holder, laying the roll on its side along the bottom. There is also nothing wrong with the earth rated bags, I’ve used them for years. If you load the bags vertically and the bag hole is horizontal, it’s not going to spin freely. The dog bag “hole” isn’t round, it’s a slit, so you just have to install the roll in the same plane. It’s a great piece of gear, easily transferable between Ruffwear and nonRuffwear leashes. I love it because I can put extra rolls in there and see easily how much I have on the current roll. It has a bit of a stash pocket on the front and a key clip in the inside to stow your car keys on a walk.Ashley

This fits well in my 2015 Prius. I love that it's waterproof! My previous seat cover was always covered in golden retriever hair, even after washing. This is so easy to clean. So far I have just swept the dirt and hair out with a towel. Quick and easy. I worried that this seat cover might slide around, but it stays perfectly in place. The zipper pocket is a nice bonus..I keep an extra leash, her gentle leader, and a brush inside.Erin G.
We bought for the hammock configuration to keep our elderly hiking buddy from falling into the footwells when we braked to slowed suddenly. It's definitely sturdy and easy to install, and it has worked as intended. However it is VERY noisy and not at all absorbent – so much so I've folded up the old microfiber seat cover so he doesn't make a racket moving around. And the cleats are too flimsy to hold the cover in place. Unless you're using it hammock-style and secured front and back to the headrests, it's going to slid all over. Whether I'd recommend it to anyone would really depend on how they want to use it.BethRA
The material is EXTREMELY durable and very high quality, but the design has some problems. While I like that it has fabric that extends down over the side of the seats to protect the edges, the inserts that are meant to slide into the seats to hold the cover in place don't work, so the entire cover will shift to one side when my dog jumps in, exposing one side of the seats, despite the extra protective fabric. The slits in the cover, meant to allow seat belts and buckles to pass through, also allow a tremendous amount of dirt and liquid to leak onto the seats. Every time I move this cover, I find that my seats are really dirty, and even stained from water from my wet dog (not even spills). I love the ability to use as a hammock or just a cover, the versatility is really nice. The buckles that clip around the headrests are well constructed and very adjustable. This thing holds onto smells like no fabric I have ever seen. Even after a good washing, the thing reeks. The material is quiet, it doesn't crinkle or make any weird noises that dogs don't like. My dog has no problem sitting on the cover, even though she is picky about some materials.Alex

I got these because my dog is getting older and I need to switch her to softer foods. The bag is lightweight since it's freeze dried and seals nicely shut with the zip top. Upon opening the bag and seeing the patties I was a bit disappointed seeing that many of the patties were broken up. There were many still intact thankfully so I have a good idea of what 1/2 or 1/4 of the patties look like or if need be how much a whole patty would be now. The feeding guide on the back was great to figure out portioning. There is an option to use the patties as a topper to other dog food as well. The directions to prepare the food are a bit lacking. I wasn't sure how long to wait after adding the water. I wanted over 5 minutes but I could have probably stirred it earlier and just given it to my dog. Any issues aside my dog loves this food and gobbled it up right away. Overall this dog food is great! I appreciate the wholesome ingredients and I have a great food for my dog that I can feel good offering her as she ages.NPRIOLO
I am always looking for a healthy "real" food for my dogs. Something I can give them and know that its all natural and actually good for them. I also have a diabetic dog and have to really watch everything he eats. I always make homemade food for my dogs, but they get tired of eating the same old-same old. I was happy I found these. For my diabetic, I can add a few crumbles of one of the patties as a topper to his homemade food, and the other night I rehydrated a half of patty and mixed it in with his food and he LOVED it. I took 2 patties and rehydrated them for my GS and mixed it with some boiled chicken breast and it was gone in seconds. I am happy with the ingredient and how really quick I can rehydrated the patties. And because they are dehydrated, they require no refrigeration unless you hydrate them, so I can take them with me when we go on vacation, just add hot water. Plus I'm glad I can use this for my diabetic dog.Nannette
My dog is a picky eater and the only food she tends to want to eat is food that doesn’t tend to have a ton of good ingredients for her and wet food and she won’t take vitamin and she can tell when it’s in her food so I figure because this not only has really Turkey parts in it but also squash, pumpkin, herring and a ton of extra ingredients I wasn’t expecting but I know add a ton of extra vitamins and minerals that dogs need to be healthy. For starters I was surprised how by how big these are, I was expecting them to be more pellet sized but they are the size of a bone dog treat and also the have a very soft texture that makes it easier to tear apart and easy for your dog eat. Because these are freeze dried you can soften them with water if you have dog who need extremely soft food. By the selves my dog wouldn’t eat them but once I mixed these with her regular food she inhale it with her regular food. Honestly I feel a lot better adding these to her food because it has real ingredients and a texture she can easily eat and for me that’s a real plus and since she has been eating it she has been eating a lot better because she wouldn’t always eat all her food and she has eaten everything we have given her plus it has helped making taking her out easier for her. Overall I’m happy with these and would highly recommend.Ally91

We love ruffwear! Have been using their products for 5 years already, love the designs and materials they use but mann what’s going on with the stitching ?? It sucks when the stitching starts coming loose within days/weeks of use, i got two dogs and it feels like you got a 50-50 chance that you will get a product with defective stitching, Got two collars, the “ruffwear” tag started coming loose within a few weeks of use on one of those. Got two leashes, the buckle to use around the waist broke in two days!! On one of those, the other one is still good, Got two fernie jackets, the stitching around the neck started coming loose within ONE wash on one of those, so you get the point… luckily i know how to sew and I’m able to repair the items, but it sucks to spend top dollar on dog gear only to last in good condition for a few days or weeks.Gabriela
I have 2 beagles a little over a year old and these are the second Ruffwear collars they’ve had. I bought new ones because they grew out of their old ones and, honestly, I wanted a new look on them. My girls are typical beagles who spend a lot of time outdoors wrestling, digging, chasing, etc. These collars hold up well and are not too thick, stiff, or bulky. Love the reflective threading on them too!Audrey S.
For the number of tags I need to have on my dog, separate attachment points for tags and leash are a must. Everything on one ring would be a difficult mess. My Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy is growing quickly, and making small size adjustments a couple times each week is no problem. Once set, it stays set no matter how hard he pulls, no matter if the collar is dry or wet. The webbing hardly absorbs odors, and a quick wash and air dry gets rid of what little there was. My only regret is that my rough-and-tumble beast of a puppy will outgrow his medium collar in another month. I'm ordering a large Top Rope collar next, and someone is going to get a really sweet hand-me-down!Glen H.

We thought this jacket would be perfect for our little shittzu but when we put it in her, she will not budge. She wears tshirts and sweaters and does fine. For some reason, she doesn’t like this. We’ve tried putting it on hoping that she will become accustomed to it. We hope that she’ll start wandering in the house with it on. She outlasts us!! She is so stubborn!! I don’t know why she doesn’t like it….its heavier than her tees and sweater….maybe that’s the problem. It makes a rustling sound and is a bit stiff. We’ve not been outside with it so I’d love to know if we may return it but I cannot find the tags. ;-( Please let me know what can be done. This is not an inexpensive doggy jacket!Irva
Our Australian shepherd Na Pali has a long history of hating to wear anything. She quivers when you try to put a harness on her, even the one she wears in the car. She's had a coat that she ran away from when she saw it. It might have been the velcro fasteners. The Stumptown? She absolutely loves it. When it's time to go out, you only have to hold it open for her and she dives into the neck hole. There's no trembling except for her excitement over going out and playing. This isn't the warmest coat. She has shorter fur for an Aussie, and it doesn't keep her super toasty, but it gives her some protection and lets her stay out longer. It's also really durable. The first Stumptown we got was for our Aussie puppy, and the two of them can wrestle without damaging their coats. I'd get her the Powder Hound, but I'm pretty sure she'd hate having to put her legs through it.Cathy B.
Excellent. I realized that each.of your garments are cut differently. Jack is a barrel chested, short backed terrrier. This coat fits him perfectly as the length along the back is shorter than some of your other garments. In your measurement guide, you may want to advise customers to consider their dogs back length in addition to the chest circumference.Rosalie W.

My wife and I love hiking and camping with our Olde English Bulldogge. Because of his breed we always have to be conscious about keeping him cool. This a great product to help with that. We can definitely tell a difference when he?s wearing it. Less panting and more energetic. It does dry out on hot days quickly so having extra water is something that you?ll need to plan for. Overall it?s a great tool to help with keeping your dog cool.Austin H
I got it for my senior dog who is in hospice. She has nasal cancer, kidney disease, and high blood pressure. She loves long trail walks, but the heat is dangerous for her, so we've been walking in early morning combined with trying things like the swamp cooler. It does work well–at the end of the walk the area under the jacket is cool to the touch–but the sizing is strange. It's only adjustable in one spot, so there's no real way to make sure the part that goes over her chest fits closely; it just kind of hangs there and irritates her. The next size down would have been too small. It's a great idea and a great quality jacket, I just wish it were more adjustable.Princess Josephine
Our dog (border collie) was between sizes. The correct size for length gave a girth size just on the borderline between small and medium; a lesser girth size, which would have fitted well, gave a back length about 4" shorter.. We chose the larger size; it does give the body coverage we wanted; the securing straps are pretty much fully tightened to get the girth secure – so not a lot of leeway in terms of sizing. In terms of the product itself, it seems very well designed and manufactured; materials used seem substantial. All buckles and straps are hidden so risk of catching them on anything (like agility equipment) is very low. We used the vest in terms of cooling off after agility; getting into a hot car at the start of a journey and dog walking in temperatures in the high 20's. All have a significant impact on keeping the dog cool or, if hot, cooling him down much faster than otherwise. The best test was yesterday when walking mid afternoon in high temperatures. When the walk and play was over, the dog was panting but only as much as if it had been a spring day. 15 minutes in the cool of the house and he was totally back to normal. In terms of use, we are finding the easy way is to keep an extra water bottle in the car and pore its content onto the vest at the start of the walk. 500ml is adequate; 750ml gives it a good soaking. There's not much squeezing to be done (it held the content well) and the vest seems to work to about an hour. It also seems to dry quite quickly once the walk is over. Yes, it is silver grey and it will pick up/show grit/dirt if the dog lies down on loose ground with the vest on but it either just knocks off or, as has happened once when there were grass stains, a quick wash brought it back to new. I've noticed that some other dog walkers give sideways looks at the dog wondering why he is wearing a coat in such hot weather – they're usually intrigued when they find out for the first time its purposeRobin J.

tl;dr: Detachable bags are awesome, harness is very comfortable, weight is well-distributed, plenty of room for food/snacks/bowls etc., very durable. I got this harness because I wanted the detachable saddlebags. They went above and beyond; not only do the saddlebags pop on and off easily, but the hole that surrounds the harness's handle and leash hook is large enough to fit around the retractable leash I use, which means I don't have to detach the leash at all when taking the bags off. The harness itself seems to be very comfortable; Chani has no problems running around and performing tricks, even with a full pack. The weight seems well-distributed and supported; she hasn't complained about it at all. It's also very durable; she's very energetic, and it gets smacked around a lot, but hasn't shown any sign of wear or tear. The material has been easy to clean, and it dries out fairly quickly. Chani loves drinking from the included water pouches. On shorter hikes, I only fill them half full or so, and I alternate which one I use to keep the weight evenly distributed. The main bags are large enough to fit collapsible food and water bowls, as well as four days' worth of her food plus treats. I use the top pockets for her doggie bags, brush, and medicine (such as parasite prevention). We ramped up with baby steps (harness on, harness off, harness with empty pack, walk with harness, walk with backpack, then slowly adding weight). Chani adapted very quickly, though she's usually up for anything. This isn't her daily harness (although it is comfortable enough to be that), so she gets excited every time she sees me holding it, because she knows there's a long walk or hike coming. I still keep room in my backpack to fit the bags in case she starts to slow down, but I haven't had to. I do try to stay well under her weight limit and take breaks as necessary. Chani has a blast every time we go!Heidi L.
I had tried another dog backpack before this one that failed almost immediately. Every part of the ruffwear palisades pack is well designed and super functional. The fitting guide was spot on to start. I loved the adjustments-we got a perfect fit for my dog. The material, zippers, pocket sizes, and straps were all well thought-out and durable. I also loved the two 1 liter water bottles that were included. I really can’t say enough good things about this pack. It’s a lot more expensive than some other dog packs but it is worth the money!Alesia Q.
I don’t know about everyone else, but I have a big dog who can drink a lot of water and have many things to bring on a long hike. My main attraction to this backpack was, if he had to, my dog, Trigger, could carry all his own stuff for a several day camping trip (besides more than about a day’s worth of water). We often gets up early in the mornings for a day long hike and will return as the sun is setting, and I really appreciate that Trigger can carry all of his own stuff: water, a water bowl, drool towel, a snack, a tennis ball, a rain jacket, poop bags, etc. Whatever he might need, he can carry, which is a huge relief for me since carrying both his water and stuff plus my water and stuff can be a LOT. We have used it for a short camping trip as well, a three day trip where we were able to carry in extra water and food from the car, and he was able to carry most of his own stuff (extra gear, leashes, and jackets). If we went backpacking and then set up camp, I’m sure he could carry enough food and water for a day as well, maybe three if we had a source of water. The function of this bag is great too, it’s easy to remove things and offer him water or snacks or grab a poop bag from him when needed. The handle is great and the design of the harness means I can pick him up and put him somewhere if I need to or if he’s being stubborn and won’t turn around for me (he sometimes gets annoyed with photos and will silently protest them, or on trails when he’s off leash, sometimes he likes to stop in the middle of the trail and block people who need to pass us). It’s obviously not made to carry him for a long period of time but I have no doubt that in a pinch (say he got injured), the harness would allow me to carry him as needed, since it’s clearly of the highest quality. Since the packs are removable, that means when it’s time to take a break, it’s a lot easier to relieve him of his load and keep the harness on, another key feature that drew me to this bag. Before a hike starts and after one is finished, I can take the packs off and let him relax in the car without the extra weight; if we take an extended break, I can also remove the packs and let him frolic. It also kept me from having to buy one of the harnesses as well (he usually just uses his collar and leash), and now that I’ve used an actual harness, I can see the advantages in using one. I will still stick to my leash and collar the rest of the time, as that’s what works best for him, but in some scenarios like getting on a boat, it’s nice to know that the harness handle is there to pull him out of an unsafe situation. With the adjustments of the harness, it has never not fit him which is saying something considering the both of us (me and Trigger) got massively out of shape over quarantine. We’re getting back in shape now and he’s loosing the extra fat pretty fast, regaining his lean form, but no matter what shape he was, the harness fit him perfectly. No chaffing noticed from me and no sore spots on his end as best as I can tell. The water containers carry enough water for him for a whole day, which is something I was worried about not having enough of when getting a backpack for him. Some of the downsides to this pack is that he does get a little hot. He doesn’t handle heat the best in general, preferring the winter just like me, but it does make it a bit harder to cool down for him. Good thing though, that they make a cooling attachment for the harness that should counteract that if purchased. Another thing is that the sides can and do get a bit of wear and tear; my dog has bad spacial awareness to begin with (runs into people sometimes and doesn’t care) and being three times as wide means he brushes up against all kinds of sticks and rocks and whatever else is out in the world. The only place that I’ve seen wear and tear is on the very lowermost outsides of the pack, but I am also aware that Trigger is particularly rough with it. The third thing is that even when just carrying his water, two liters of water (which is how much the provided water containers fit), can be pretty heavy, so as well as it fits and distributes weight and all that jazz, just know it’s entirely possible for your pup to get tired faster with the bag on. I get tired faster with a backpack too, and his levels of energy have never dropped so low with the backpack that I’ve been concerned about it, but he does get tired faster. Ultimately, I’m sure with enough experience carrying the pack and with him back in shape, it will hardly hold him back in the future (not that it stops him now, Trigger loves to go go go and will even encourage me to go faster at times). I recommend it if this sounds like what you’re looking for, if you’re not quite so hardcore nor ask as much of your own dog (or if they’re not willing to spend 6-8+ hours on a trail without extra weight) perhaps consider the smaller size packs. Overall the best dog bag around if you’re serious about the outdoors!Isabelle E.

First the Pros: this harness is durable and I have no doubt it is strong and durable enough to hold my 70lb pittie when needed. It also does a great job of keeping her from pulling when using the chest loop. We love the Ruffwear brand and I (and my dogs) love the sweaters/clothing as they are always cold in temps below 70°. Cons: I watched the video on fitting the harness and every single walk results in raw skin/bleeding/scabs under her armpits (she has very thin fur on her underside) due to the material of the harness rubbing in this area. I also find the buckles a bit difficult to unclip as they are partially hidden inside the attachment area which means you have to squeeze the buckle through the thick harness material to release the clasp. Because of my love of their other products and the front clip feature, I may try to put some padding or softer material in the underarm area to see if that helps.Melissa S.
For the most part I really like this harness. The construction seems sturdy and the color is nice, and it’s very easy to get on and off. That said, I think it could be improved by lengthening the body (the neck to back, if you will). I have two mixed breed dogs who are very similar in shape, size, and weight. I purchased two of these harnesses, one in extra small and one in small. The small is overall a bit too large around, and the small (although ok for girth) is way too short. I am always trying to keep an eye on their underarms and backs of their elbows to make sure they aren’t getting raw spots. I’ve seen the same issue in other reviews, so I don’t think it’s just my dogs. I would also love it if you could purchase extenders in different sizes, because I think often a smaller size is better all around, but doesn’t extend in girth quite enough, while the next size up is too big. The good still outweighs the not perfect though, and I keep coming back to Ruffwear to buy different styles of harnesses!Samantha N.
I saw this harness at my local REI and without knowing anything about the brand or how it would impact my life, I knew it was “cute”. I bought it for my mischievous lab puppy who weighed around 50 lbs at the time, solely for that reason. The cute factor. I then came here and ordered the Ruffwear Knot-a-leash rope dog leash to match. We used the harness and leash combo for about a week, when my fearless puppy decided to show me how well it works. I was driving on the freeway, and while waiting in traffic to exit on the off ramp, I opened my back windows for her to get some fresh air. She was clipped to a cheap “doggie seatbelt clip” so she was secure, or so I thought. I hadn’t noticed that she had un-clipped herself from the seatbelt until the moment I saw her jump right out the car window, and disappear from my view. She wasn’t trained at the time and would make a run for it anytime possible. I panicked picturing my dog running into freeway traffic and being hit, but to my disbelief I found her hanging off the car window, being securely help in place by this harness and the rope leash that was still inside the car. The impact of her weight combined with the momentum of the jump, did nothing but dent the locking system of the carabiner shut, and held her weight without letting her escape or even touch the ground for that matter, and not a single rip happened to either the harness or the leash otherwise. This “expensive, but cute” dog accessory prevented my dog from a terrifying death that would have surely happened had she not been wearing both of these incredible, life-saving items. Thank you, Ruffwear, for making such amazing products that are truly life saving. I owe my dog’s life to you guys and I am forever grateful for that.Sabrina

Reviews:
I love this pad. I've bought numerous brands of pads for my service dogs over the decades looking for the perfect pad and was never happy with what I found until the Highlands Pad. Service dogs are expected to "under" when in public, especially when they're big dogs, so that they're out of the way: under tables, under benches, under chairs, etc. Under is usually a grimy place, especially by the end of the day. My service dog's pad needs to be reasonably comfortable, light in color (so that people, like wait staff can see him and not accidentally step on him) and not retain the debris that was under the table. It also should fold or roll up small compact enough that I can carry in in a small tote with one hand because my other hand is on my dog's harness. It also has to hold up to being washed day in and day out. This pad does all that perfectly. For a pet owner who doesn't necessarily bring their dog out into grimy locations, this comfortable pad blocks moisture (both moisture from the ground if you use it outside or while camping, and moisture from a wet dog or an accident from reaching the floor – within reason). It's easy to toss into a backpack. It's comfortable and warm on cold days. Medium and large are both generously sized. My large GSD curls up to on the medium just fine, although the large fits him better. I use mine virtually every day and although, the pads are rotating through the laundry all the time, they show almost no signs of wear.Lori
I tried out the new Highlands Pad last weekend (with the Highlands Bed). Here is what I liked/didn't like about it and why I only gave it 3 stars. The waterproof base is non-skid and is great if you're using this in your tent. Everyone who tent camps w/ their dog knows how beds and blankets slide around when your dog jumps in/out. My dog is 70lbs so this is always an issue. I actual wish my sleeping pad had this, though I know that would add weight. I don't know however, if the added cost of the waterproof-ness of the base is needed though. Could make it moisture-wicking or just some other kind of moisture barrier w/ the non-skid surface. The fold-ability/compact-ability is so-so… this is specifically coming from more of a back country camper, so I need it to fit easily in my pack and the shape of it when it's folded is pretty awkward. It fits well into the Highlands Bed, but I opted not to do that because the bottom of the bed is just the normal denier fabric, which means it'll slide around if I actually tuck this into the bed. I think one of the improvements they could make w/ the compatibility w/ the Highlands Bed is to put either Velcro or snap hooks on the bed to connect the two. Then the non-skid function, when used w/ the bed, would still be in tact. One of the main reasons I put this as 3 stars is this pad is that the description implies it can be used as a pad for 'around the camp site', but beware that this pad is VERY prone to burn through and marks from the slight fire spark. So this is not campfire friendly at all, which almost defeats the purpose of bringing it with me camping since that is mostly when my dog is lying around with me.Patti P.
This is perfect for travel and keeping my dog off the hard ground. I did not find this to be too thin as others had mentioned. This is not meant to be a fluffy bed, but rather a mat to offer some protection from the ground. It packs down very small and light and the fabric is quite soft on top. This is something meant for daytime use around the campsite or taking breaks on hikes. It is not meant for long-term sleeping. Keep that in mind and this will be a perfect addition for your dog. I’m really glad I purchased.ENicole
