My Yorkie is beyond picky. She will refuse dry food and go on hunger strikes until I give her something else. She was on a raw diet for a while and loved it but started having major digestive issues. We have 3 dogs, all S/F: GSD (2yo), Siberian Husky (4-5yo), and Pit Bull foundling (4-5yo). We were doing the grain free fad thing until I read the horror of DM-DCM, and immediately set about going to a trusted brand that met both AAFCO feeding trials and WSAVA recommendations. Royal Canin is what we keep in our clinic, and I did some of the videos on nutrition and was immediately swayed to try it out. All 3 girls have had MUCH better digestion since! My pit used to have terrible gas, would empty the room, and borborygmus… not anymore. Our husky used to ignore food and beg for human scraps but this is palatable enough that she does in fact eat it with little convincing. She's actually happy to see me go for the food bin! And my GSD, which I have been told GSDs are famous for tender tummies (have had 5 and never noticed except one with food allergies), has great BM… All 3 girls might go once or twice a day, max. Since the local stores have reduced the amount of Royal Canin they sell I decided to try another big companies new digestive food. Well….I tried a long 2 month switch and it didn’t work. Back to Royal Canin! I’ll just have to be sure to keep an extra bag in case I can’t get it on line. I prefer to get it in the stores. Petco carries it, but usually gets 1-2 bags at a time. I initially purchased Royal Canin Sensitive Digestion for my English setter two years ago. He had exposure to giardia just prior to him shipping to me as a puppy. The breeder made a feed recommendation, he went to the vet (of course!) and he still had loose stools after a round of medication and specialty feeds. I went to the local Petsmart to pick up Royal Canin Dachshund for another pet and noticed the Royal Canin Sensitive Digestion. I purchased it and in one feeding – literally one feeding – no more loose stools for the English setter. Not one ever again. Nothing was working until Royal Canin Sensitive Digestion. In an I-should-have-known-better attempt to save on the food bill, I switched to a popular dog food with a strong dog show enthusiasts following. The setter developed allergies and started developing ear infections on the lower-priced other brand. After expensive vet bills, I switched back to Royal Canin Sensitive Digestion. My Boxer mix pup is allergic to flaxseed. Excluding Royal Canin, good luck finding a Flax free dog food priced within reason. I started with regular Medium version in the red bag and it was a winner. I feed raw and have been purchasing this product as a supplemental form of food for training (use out of my pocket) and in food dispensing toys. I used to love this product, but the last bag that came the food was crumbling terribly. It did not hold it shape, therefore unable to use as I intended. It is described on the website as "jerky like".. it used to be, but not this bag. I called customer service and I did not get what I would call a good answer. I wrote a review, which never was posted, I emailed the company and did not get a response and then called again. I just wanted to see what was going on and if this was how the product is going to be in the future. It was decided in my last phone call that I wanted to return the product. I have to pay shipping to return and had to "negotiate" for a refund. I never asked for a refund from Only Natural Pet before… I was surprised that their 100% Guarantee is for "STORE CREDIT"… There are products this company produces that I really like, and I like guarantees for satisfaction… however.. I feed Raw and have been using this as part of my feeding program. I liked the quality of the food and the jerkey like texture. This was the product that I used as an "out of pocket" food or would place it into a food dispensing toy to keep the dogs busy or stimulate them mentally. This order came and its texture is different from all previous orders. It is not jerkey like. Some of the food in the bag almost has the same shape, but crumbles into somewhat of a powder. Also, a lot of it in the bag is all broken down. As a result, I cannot use it out of my pocket for training or in food dispensing toys as it just completely breaks apart. I called customer service to inquire about this and if quality control checks the food. My first thought was there was not 90% of meat in the product and it somehow slipped through quality…. I was told about it being "reformulated" and to check the description/ingredients on the website. The bag says 90% meat, just as before and all ingredients read the same….. The listed ingredients on the bag read "identical" to my previous bags that I have ordered.I was told there is more pumpkin & pomegranite. So I ask, does that mean there is less than 90% meat… I was told no, it is 90% meat. How can that be if it is reformulated with more pumpkin & pomegranite?? I am mystified that it would be so different in texture and color (very crumbly and more of an orange color) I am including a picture of the product as an example. The jerky like product on the left in the picture is from my previous order and the crumbly stuff on the right is what I just received recently. I may just be sending this bag back…. I have three pugs. Two of which will eat anything as long as it's good. One will eat anything, well, just because. The female however is spoiled. She get's her maw wrapped around something extra tasty and she won't give it up. She tries to hold out for her favorites. Which is now, you guessed it, MaxMeat. This pug knows her meats by name in cooked and raw state. Of course no self-respecting dog will turn their nose up to good old fashion hunk of meat on their plate. Now since this is my honest opinion and I don't get anything for this review but to share my experiences with other pet parents, here's the short list of top commercial brands that my little connoisseur cutie snubs her nose at since she discovered MaxMeat. Ziwipeak, Orijen Freeze-Dried, Grandma Lucy's, Caru, Vital Essentials, The Honest Kitchen, Stella&Chewy's, Tucker's. These brands all have awesome nutrition and are packed with good taste. So mentioning these brands isn't about quality but simply the selective taste of my picky pug. All she wants now is MaxMeat or meats from the fridge. Which is fine with me since it passes all my criteria…including price. You can easily over-feed your dog on this stuff since it's packed like a powerbar for pups. This food is truly cost effective when you feed them what they need and not what they demand with their puppy eyes. No upsets in the belly which is such a relief finally! Pugs are known to have swallowing difficulties but MaxMeat is easy to chew and swallow and that's right out of the bag without having to wet it down. As a side perk, this food is portable for travel and easy to feed in the car. No need for a bowl which rocks because the female also prefers to eat straight off the floor. She tends to circle her meals and a plate or bowl actually makes it harder for her little brachycephalic-face to get her food into her mouth. I used to feed grain free and such but after attending a canine health seminar at my breed nationals, it was talked about that dogs need a more balanced diet and that it does include grains. I had also been avoiding chicken as I had a dog who was allergic but was convinced to try this. They source quality ingredients and they are processed in a way that keeps them quality. Since then, a lot has also come out about grain free high protein causing heart problems in dogs! I switched to Royal Canin in October and my pugs have never looked better! Pugs are not a very active breed and yet the grain free diets kept them too lean for my taste. I also had issues with urinary tract infections and yeast. This food provides a good balance of carbs/protein and I see it reflected in my dogs. Healthy weight, good quality of coat and lots of energy. I feed the large breed blend to my Rottweiler too and get nothing but compliments on her coat. As far as cost, I can get this locally now at Petco as cheap or cheaper than with the online big store! I feed this to my picky Yorkie who eats it well and her coat is the shiniest I've ever seen it after a couple months on this food. We were recently traveling and my large dog went on a hunger strike and refused to eat. I offered her this food to stimulate her appetite and she ate it right up! I have 14yr Jack Russell named Belia, who over the years began having spells of vomiting before and after her meals. Her stomach had become vulnerable to foods she’s been given before with no issue to suddenly make her sick. She went to the Vet, came to find out she has chronic pancreatitis and even the smallest amount of anything can send her looking like she’s at deaths door. This food changed her because she LOVES it. She gets excited to eat it, no more vomiting (unless she gets into something she shouldn’t), and since it’s low calorie, she’s lost a little weight that did her arthritic bones some good. My 2 yr old Lab was suffering from intermittent diarrhea, making this very active pup underweight because he just couldn't get the nutrients in. Vet gave us samples of this "bland diet" favorite along with an Rx for antibiotics. I get good food for my fur babies even if it's a little more, but jeez Louise…he would need 4 cans a day at his weight. Yikes! Long story short…if your dog is having terrible tummy issues, this a good way to go to get everything calmed down. Think of the last time you were recovering from a stomach bug…chicken and rice sounded amazing, especially if someone else made it. Pizza or raw veg sounded terrible. I purchased this dog food because my breeder recommended it, but after reading the ingredients label, I returned it. The first ingredient is rice which is a dog filler and considered bad. The second ingredient is chicken by-product meal which is a nice name for slaughterhouse waste which is all the organs that a human won't eat because they are disgusting. I love my dog and could not even think of feeding them this food. This dog food is horrible and expensive! I found this food several years ago. My King Charles Cavalier was having GI upset with every food we tried – even the limited ingredient diets! To make matters worse, she tends to be a little on the picky side as, and often did not eat regularly! When I introduced this food the frequent vomiting/regurgitation ended and she starting eating regularly twice daily! I have been feeding this food to my 11 year old Chihuahua for years now. She was paralyzed and given up for adoption when she was 6 years old and I adopted her right away! We have to express her bladder several times a day. About a year after she was paralyzed she began to get UTI's regularly. I usually buy the Yorkie breed specific food, but my retailer was out of it. I saw this on the shelf and decided I would try it instead of ordering online or running to different stores. Both dogs love this as much as they do the breed specific! There were no digestion issues with changing the food and the littlest of the 2 (5 pounds) I think enjoys it more since the pieces are even smaller. Since switching to Royal Canin their picky eating stopped and they went from under weight from when I got them to normal weight. They are sturdy dogs with a lot of energy and gorgeous coat's. There is no dog who is a picker eater than my Pixie. She is the most amazing looking Pappillion, (her grandfather, Kirby, won best in Show at Westminster in 1999) weighs 6 1/2 pounds, and spits food out if she dosn't like it. Have you ever seen a dog spit out steak. People do not believe me until they see it. Steak, chicken, eggs, cheese, anything all dogs love is subject to Pixies taste at the moment. My Yorkie mostly eat fresh chicken, deli turkey etc. But he always have extra small royal canin available for him. He will eat but only when starving. He is very picky and always worrisome about choking as he did choke once. So all his other food is cut up very very tiny. He will only eat if he can see me near by. Like many companies of people/animal foods, RCVD supply chains for many products have been disrupted since COVID interrupted manufacturing, shipping, & deliveries well over a year ago – and it's still a challenge. MANY prescription diets are in short supply & only available some of the time, & this is across the board for ALL companies that product such foods. Vets DID get notice that this was, is, & will continue to be an issue. Still, this food is an excellent choice for many pets with GI issues. My GSD has been on this feed for approx 1 month, and he has had PLE + IBD since Dec 2019. October 2020, he was put on A drug called Mycophenolate; and when the dose was increased Nov 20,2020 this drug did not agree with him. He stopped eating some meals, lost some weight, vomiting & diarrhea. I took him to the vet, and they took him off of this drug. He started eating again, and I made the switch too Royal Canin GI Low Fat! Today, at his protein bloodwork appt; his numbers were great, and he is at an ideal weight finally ! Stella is a 6 yr old Chi Terrier Mix. I took her to the NORTHWEST ANIMAL CARE HOSPITAL because she hadn't ate for 1 1/2 days, then threw up blood late in the evening and next day her poo had blood in it and allot of drops on the floor. After ex rays and blood tests Vet said she had a high level of bad bacteria in her gut. Started I/D Chicken on Feb 28 afternoon and evening. I got 3 cans and the first can was very dried out and crumbly. I called them and they said that is the way it is suppose to be? Really. I opened second can when 1st one was empty it was not dried out at all, so I don't think it is suppose to be so dried out like that exp date is 01/2021. I added Hot Water to it for a few days then I had my Son go to PetSmart and get the Only Natural Pet nutrition boost Chicken Bone Broth and been mixing it into the food since. She is on this 4 times a day every 4 hours for 10 days and can't have any dry food or treats until blood test is done again to make sure the bad bacteria is gone. Will be opening the 3rd can in the morning, so I will be getting more cans. She seems to be doing allot better, more energy, seems happier and playing.

My puppy was delivered about 9 weeks old. Started feeding food I had for puppies. Didn't eat then and on to food breeder had fed first and didn't eat. Went to pet store and they suggested Royal Cannine. I though a little expensive but came home with it. CoCo dived in and began eating. I have since then fed to my 2 1/2 year old Shih Tzu. They love it and are doing great with their new food. I will continue to purchase R C. One great food for Shih Tzu's is the size and shape of the food for the puppy with a small mouth. We started to feed Lukkas with Pedigree (puppy) when he was 3 months old and suddenly we noticed that he is not happy when eating it then we decided to ask a Vet for suggestion and he advised us to have a Holistic Lamb puppy food instead. However, still Lukkas doesn't seem to be happy everytime we serve his food. I've went online and go through some sites to know what's the best food for him because everytime he looks sad, it usually breaks our heart to see him like that. I have read some reviews about Royal Canin and it makes me decide to have it just for a try to see if there will be a change. I bought a 1.5kg Royal Canin for shih Tzu puppy in a mall and when I got home, I tried to feed him a little bit to see his reaction about his new food and we were surprised to see how happy he is. That's the time we decided to buy Royal Canin for Lukkas even though we have to spend more this time. Until now, it never fails me to see how happy he is and weight, fur changed as well. I switched to this food at the advice of my veterinarian. He always has a happy, healthy, demeanor. His poops are firm and easily picked up. He eats the food no problem. My Cane Corso is 9 months old. I had tested many dry foods from the time she started eating dry food. Always she had digestive upset and it was obvious since all the super premium foods I was feeding her were causing diarrhoea or "almost liquid" discharging. I had to use continuously Gastrointestinal food which is not good for the puppies growth. After I changed to RC Junior GIANT, every thing was adjusted. After the first try!!!. Even if, in 3 months it should be good to change food for a month (just for change) I am tninking seriously not to change and stay on the RC dry food GIANT type, permanently. My Black Russian Terrier literally helps me carry the bag in to the house. She loves it. I've tried other foods but nothing is as good as Royal Canin . Her coat gets so thick and plush on it. Absolutely beautiful hair coat with this food. And, of course her growth is correct!Dustmagnet
