I've used this product for 20 years with all my dogs. They do fine with it. The 48 lb bag is quite cumbersome and difficult to maneuvers to dump into a container for a small framed person but that's to be expected. I don't like the new bags that don't have the red pull string for opening, as it takes a saw to cut through the packaging (just kidding) but I don't own a knife or scissors that cuts it open easily, so that part is always a pain for me, since they've changed the way it open and I can't peal the glue seal open either. That's my only complaint but no one could say it isn't well sealed when, even, the owner can't easily get it open. Love the service of having it delivered. Very difficult for me to pick up, load into shopping cart, load from there into car, load from car to storage location to be dumped. I feed my German Shepherd a mix of Dog Chow and Puppy Chow! He’s 4, but he’s a very high energy dog that runs everyday, so I find mixing puppy chow in with his dog chow to help him get all of his protein and nutritional needs for his high amounts of daily exercise! I have tried all sorts of high end kibbles and fresh foods and he’s never done as well on those as he does on regular old Purina Chow. I love that this is available in basically every major retailer. My 4 year old American Staffordshire Terrier has suffered from food & gastrointestinal allergies since he was 8 months old. For the first 3 years of his life he could only eat Pure balance, Purina one true instincts, or Rachael Ray. It was incredibly hard because all of brands are expensive for a big dog and I had a hard time with bills and money. But, I knew how sick other brands would make him so I would go without whenever I had to so that he had what he needed. A year and a half ago I was buying a bag of food almost every week because I had moved in with my fiance who had 2 large dogs and I had to have all 3 dogs on the same food so that my boy didn't get into the other two's food. Well after doing that for a few months, I decided it was time for me to try and see if my boy could handle a more cost efficient food. So we researched and chose Purina dog chow chicken & rice formula (green bag) as our first trial food. We slowly introduced him and he had no issues. Eventually we completely switched over and he still had no issues! So here we are over a year later and he is still doing great! Shiny coat, healthy tummy and a happy boy. Walmart sells a 53 lb bag for only $23 and it lasts us usually 5 weeks. He however has gastrointestinal issues with the Purina dog chow beef (red bag). But that's ok because he does so great on the chicken & rice formula. Please don't turn away from Purina dog chow because it's cheaper than all of the popular overpriced brands. Since I opened the package my dog was all over this new food option. I wanted to give it a little over a week before I gave a full review. I slowly mixed in the new food with my dogs main food and I noticed right away she loved it! She was dumping her food bowl and picking the pieces she wanted to eat. In the last 3-4 months the Shredded blend is horrible. There are no moist chicken pieces and is just dry kibble and my dogs will not eat it. I complained to the company where I order my food from telling them that they sent me the wrong product. They sent me another bag and there's still no chicken pieces. I did not read Purina's own reviews, instead I concentrated on others. My poodle loved the Small Breed Petite Races Chicken and Rice, but beginning in around Feb 2022, she started to not love eating. We thought she was either ill or it was perhaps the rawhide bones or her new "trio" heartworm-flea-tick med. I recently read the Purina's own reviews and many say this food smells. My Yorkiepoo has a bit of a problem with constipation. At least twice over the years it's had him backed up enough that he required a trip to the vet and some meds to get his system moving. Since switching to this food (and keeping strict limits on table scraps and treats) his digestion's been great. Long enough, I want to say 2 ~ 3 years now, that if he does have any transient issues I'm confident his dry food is not to blame. And he's been in good health so I feel like he's getting the nutrition he needs. And the little bugger eats it. Not the foods fault but I will say I'm annoyed by the branding change from Focus. Not that I care about the name or picture on the bag, but when you find something good and don't want to change from it, such changes in packaging cause unneeded nuisance and stress. I actually use the lamb and rice so other than the protein everything else is the same I actually switched to it after the price of my dogs normal food got way to high. I definitely notice that her itchy skin is better her coat is shinier usually she will not eat plain dry dog food but because this has the boys dehydrated pieces of Liam edit she will eat it by itself which makes things a lot easier there are times that she does not want to eat it plain so I will moisten it with a little bit of water put it in the microwave for 12 seconds and she devours it. The thing I like about the small breed is the size of the kibble is perfect for her mouth size the price is quite good for what you get I definitely would recommend this my vet recommends this to all their clients my mother uses it for her schnauzer and we have not had any negative experiences I’ve been using this for a few years the only problem I have Kayla cross is that my local pet stores even though they are a big chain store have trouble keeping it in I don’t know if that’s due to popularity or because of shipping problems due to the pandemic we just went throughlaura.k

We are very active in the ring and eventing almost constantly at times going from one event to the next. Our fuzzy babies are beyond spoiled and are unfortunately very selective when it comes to kibble size. We have tried every size of kibble multiple times because the other isn't available and they will only eat the toy size. We have tried everything from breaking the larger kibble up to wetting it stirring it up to small pieces and drying it out, they will not eat it. We tried explaining to them that there is a pic of a Cavalier on the next size up but they don't care, Cavaliers are a toy breed and should have toy size kibble. They will dive into the toy size kibble and make it disappear as we pour it into their dishes. They truly love ProPlan Toy breed kibble. The reason they only got 4 stars is A BIG PROBLEM – availability. For some dumb reason the Toy size kibble isn't available in any pet store we have visited in MI, GA, FL, etc. (on the AKC circuit) What am I suppose to do when the only kibble our Cavalier pack will eat isn't carried in any stores. They only carry the next size up, which they won't eat. The second BIG PROBLEM is it only comes in a tiny bag! We have asked and asked to NO AVAIL (reps, stores,specialty stores, online stores). Appearantly toy size dogs aren't suppose to eat much kibble! The only other dogfood our dogs will eat is homemade fresh, that's it. Doesn't matter if it's in a pouch, can, tube. They will eat Toy ProPlan kibble. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make the Toy (Cavalier true size) ProPlan kibble available in a 20 or 25 lb bag for those of us who have larger toy breed dogs and may have more than one. Every 4 days we have to get another bag tiny bag of Toy Kibble. IT'S IMPOSSIBLE, bad marketing, and bad customer service. We have three resue dogs one is 5 yrs old, one is 3 yrs old and third is 17 weeks old. We use Tender & Crunchy and Puppy Chow. We have a big container of dry food that we keep out for all our girls (Maggie, Molly and Mindy). We also give them wet food (Pro Plan) twice a day. We trust the quality of the product and know that it is good for our babies. Our eldest girl Maggie was very abused as a puppy and it took years to get her to completly open her heart to us. Because of her abuse we have to cut her food and hand feed it to her, so she will eat. It truly warms our heart to see how far she has come. We have fed this product for over 5 years to our yellow Lab. The first year was Puppy Chow. He loves this product. Kibble is smaller than the larger kibble found in the original Dog Chow. The tender in the name must come from the smaller kibble, because it is all crunchy. Our dog loves it. My dogs love this, and my vet approves. So many vets are selling designer dog food for profit that it's hard to get a straight answer. My old vet says Purina has been in business longest and that people who feed their dogs the higher protein rich foods, unless their dogs are sporting dogs or in competition and using a lot of energy, it's just asking for trouble. If you compare same-brand European dog foods to American ones, you'll see the protein is higher because Americans tend to think protein is the answer. It will only make your dog more hyper and that level isn't needed. My dog likes the medium level of protein found in Purina Dog Chow varieties. And my dogs do too.Paula

Definitely has made great difference in her coat and skin for better. It took a little over two weeks to completely switched from other food but it’s because she has such a sensitive stomach,however she didn’t have any issues after about 4 days before she adjusted her system to it. My pomeranian’s coat looked terrible. It had stopped growing in and was dry and dull. He had begun balding on his hind legs as well. The groomer recommended getting his thyroid checked, but his last physical at the vet was good, so we decided to try changing his food first. We chose salmon based because our vet said many dogs have developed allergies to chicken. He did not like the food at first so we switched him very slowly and he got used to it. Our dog has had constant irritated ears and itchy paws. He would scratch at his ears until they bled. Our vet said it is a food allergy. After we adopted our pups we started them on the Crunchy Puppy Chow. They liked it but always left some morsels in their bowls. We noticed Purina also sells Tender and Cruchy and gave it a try. Now this they didn't like but instead loved and now they finish all their food. We began using a food container to store their Tender and Crunchy, a cute pail with a lid. Since we've been storing their food in the pail we now have to tape the lid because they flip the lid and eat out of the pail between meals. Our girls are happy and so are we with Tender and Crunchy – we know it's good for them and it's nice to not throw money away daily because they finish it. We will purchase this product until they graduate to adult food – and because they love it we will continue buying the Purina brand for the rest of their lives. After receiving some coupons in our newspaper, I decided to purchase Beneful to see if one of my older dogs would have less digestion problems. Logan loves every flavor that Beneful makes! Like older adults, older dogs need dietary items that are good and good for them. Logan likes the Beneful dry also, but he does better on Beneful Wet foods. 🐕🐩🐶🍖🐾 I have a little pomeranian that is very picky! He's a much older dog who has cataracts and isn't very active. He was a rescue dog when I got him he already had all his ailments. I really like that this food is mostly soft even though it is considered dry dog food. I also like that you could see the vegetables in the food as well! Gus really seem to enjoy this food which was surprising given how picky he actually is! At a good price point and it it looks good! I’ve been considering changing my little dog to soft dog food for a while now. He is 10 years old and his teeth are not what they use to be. I’ve always been hesitant because anytime I’ve changed his feed, his stomach has gotten tore up. I gave him this to try and it was gone in like 3 seconds. He loved it! And so far it has not messed up his belly. It has the same fishy smell as all wet dogs foods even though it says turkey. He is a shaggy hair dog so it was all in his beard by the time he scarfed it down. I will have to trim his face way down so this isn’t an issue every time. The container was perfect size and peel lid to let dog eat out container or dump in their food bowl. Perfect to stack in treat cabinet as well. I found the Purina ProPlan Focus Adult small breed entrees to be an excellent product for my dog. He loved the flavor! I never had to put away any leftovers. He was always excited to try each try and found each flavor very delicious! I liked that the food agreed with his stomach and he had no digestive issues. He ate 1/2 a tray at each feeding and felt very satisfied vs other brands that left him wanting more. He seemed to like each tray equally. I thought he might favor the beef as he usually seems to have that flavor preference. However, he devoured the turkey and chicken with the same enthusiasm that he did with the beef tray. I really appreciate that there are many flavors with this food that he can enjoy. I love that this food is grain free with the meat being the #1 ingredient. Another canned food to try for ur picky pups that prefer chunky over pate styled dog food. The pieces are a bit larger so perfect for my German Shepherd, Porkchop, and although it's one of the few brand and type of food that both my picky pups like, including my male Chihuahua, Dakota, for my Chihuahua, I just cut the pieces into smaller bites so he can eat with ease as well. I often even stick in microwave for 30 seconds to get the chill out and allow in to mix more thoroughly. (Just be sure you finger test before giving to ur pup as all microwaves cook and heat differently, and you would not want to overheat and or cause a burn on ur pups tongue. Wow! My dog loves this food, he is a 1 and a half year old cavapoo and very fussy. I don't change his food often but when he was a pup he wouldn't eat and would make himself sick with not eating that I had to try a few, eventually he went on to raw which he did ok on but would still be a little fussy, we then tried country hunter which he liked certain flavours and would sometimes leave it for a day or 2 before eating, I saw these and decided to give them a try as it is still the same brand of food. He has eaten every single meal and I've started to feed him twice a day as he wolfs it down as soon as I put it in his dish. This flavor is only available online, and only by the case of 12 cans. I've ordered a few times, and each time I notice several cans with dents. This time, upon opening one of the cans it just seemed off. I emptied several spoons of the food into bowls when I inspected the inside of the can and found several black spots on the metal. Can only assume that this can was compromised and had something nasty growing. I threw the food away and further inspected the remaining cans. 7 of the 12 are dented, but oddly the damage is turned to the inside of the shrinkwrapped case. I'd expect damage during handling to be more evident on the outer edges of the case. Either way, it's disappointing to think someone packed this for delivery and thought "it's good enough" or didn't pay enough attention to inspect the items they were packing.Debbie

Upon delivery, the dogs knew there was something in the box for them- especially the smallest one; Betty, a teacup chihuahua my mother adopted a several months ago. Duncan is the pug in the photos; he was welcomed in their home around Easter this year and is a picky eater so I wanted to get his reaction most of all. You can see how he does the sniff test, takes a bite, absolutely dives in the bowl, eats every bite and passes out! This food worked for each of our dogs and of course the older ones wanted to get it as well. The pieces are a bit large for the 3 pound chihuahua but she is so feisty (and our veterinarian seriously approved the food choice) so we let her have a few nuggets with the others. I like the house of lamb and rice because lamb is usually a protein that dogs can digest without much chance of an allergy and rice is so much better than corn fillers. I used to rotate Nature's Recipe food in my adult Rottweiler's diet but had not used the puppy formula before. Your company wanted "enough people" to come forward that use this product. Well, here we are! We get the standard "we had to make the difficult decision to discontinue…". Obviously it wasn't that difficult because it was discontinued without warning. For us, I'm trying to transition my baby to something else. She has so many different food allergies that THIS was the ONLY food that she would not get sick from. She has been sick now for the last 4 months and recently started vomiting blood because her poor little system cannot tolerate other food. My dogs LOVE Nature's Recipe Lamb and Rice Dry Dog Food! Thanks to Influenster, I was gifted this dog food in exchange for my honest review. I've been feeding my dogs Nature's Recipe for a few years now, but just the wet food. This was my very first experience with their dry food, simply because I cannot locate it in store anywhere even remotely close to me. My wife and I recently added another addition to our family a Generation 2 Goldendoodle. After much research after having three prior much loved Rottweiler 15 years, Labrador Retriever 15 years and German Shepherd 9 years (believed heart failure), which all raised on Science Diet we continued at first with our newest family member. He shortly got disinterested after a week or two. After consulting with several local Vets they recommended ProPlan. We made the switch and he loves it. Both me and my wife agree without a doubt we made the right choice by switching over. We both have major concerns about DCM related issues with several brands of dog food including Science Diet since they changed their recipe a year or so ago. We lost our German Sheppard which was a hugh emotional blow when the had dropped unexpectedly right in front of my wife. Uncertain if this has any relation to the recent heart issue reports. In order to mitigate my family’s concerns of such a remote possibility we continue to research to provide our Goldendoodle the healthiest life style possible and live a full lifespan of the expected 15 years for this breed. We are owners of a 10 month Sheltie. The breeder recommended this particular brand so we are going off of her track record feeding this to her puppies. Really don't know how to rate it overall but if a ravenous appetite, lots of energy and great disposition has something to do with the food, then it is great. We will be transitioning from this formula to the non-shredded salmon dry food. Hard to find in our local pet stores etc so may have to substitute something else.SalleeCee

We tried this food because it was what the breeder was using. When the pup was under 3 months of age he ate this stuff up but has now refused to eat it and his gas and stool issues have increased dramatically. we've tried serving the food wet with chicken broth, and with cottage cheese or peanut butter mixed in but he still only eats a tiny amount before leaving the food bowl. We also tried leaving it out so he could graze, thinking he just needed more time to eat and digest. His breakfast is still almost completely full when we go to feed him dinner. Our vet has suggested we change his food to see if this helps since he is a 4 month old pup who is healthy and otherwise doing very well. I found the quality of this food to be good and would have continued him on this food if he didn't suddenly decide he'd no longer eat it.BoxerBabyLove

Boy did I screw up. I was near the end of my Purina one bag and got sucked in to a sale for so called premium grain free dog food (Supreme). This boutique dogfood had the same salmon as a main ingredient but the next ingredients were all legumes plus seaweed and a variety of so called naturals. The online reviews were great so I was sold. Of course my dog hated it but I tried doctoring with water and crushed up biscuits. She reluctantly ate it but she was pooping about 3 times as normal. I was running out of bags on our walk and her breath stank. I learned my lesson and back to Purina. Happy owner and happy dog.Billypdx

I have an extremely active 3-year-old husky. He had great muscle tone and a high activity level on his previous food, which for some reason he decided he no longer liked. I switched him to this food as he has a sensitive stomach, and I liked that it had a high calorie content and a decent protein level. However, we very quickly started having issues. His normal activity level went down. He seemed to have less energy. I still exercised him to help keep up the muscle mass, but it still decreased. With the decreased energy and muscle, he started putting on fat. In a matter of a couple weeks, I no longer have my toned and fit boy. In search of another food with a better quality protein to help get that muscle back. He did like the taste of the food, and it did seem to be gentle on his stomach and digestion.unhappyhusky

This used to be great. My dog has a sensitive stomach so he reacts when something is different with his food. Ever since I bought this new bag right after Christmas his stomach has not been right since. I know you say that the formula hasn’t changed but something has changed enough where my dogs stomach is upset. I have a 13lb bichon frise who typically eats other Purina Pro Plan food, but he’s a very picky eater and often goes on hunger strikes. I like the idea that it might promote calmness because he’s quite hyper. Seems like it’s marketed exactly to us because there’s even a bichon on the bag! The kibble size is perfect and it’s not too smelly (unlike the salmon pro plan we used to feed him). We mixed this in with his usual food, Purina Pro Plan small breed beef shredded blend. He was really excited and gobbled iton the first day, but subsequently has gone back to his usual picky eating patterns. When I held a piece of the beef and this one in each hand, he only ate the beef. So I don’t think this is his favorite flavor. I’m planning to keep using it especially if it might actually promote calmness, but I’ll probably keep combining it with his favorite beef food rather than switch completely.jennifer.b

I have enjoyed the benefits of this food, and it really seems to make a difference in anxiety. Not only that, but energy levels and skin and coat are also great. Overall, this product is amazing. However, please, PLEASE make more variety for this line! My other dog who would really benefit from this food is intolerant of poultry. I would buy it for her in a heartbeat if there were proteins other than chicken. I know a few other dog owners who want to try it as well, but chicken intolerance is common.Ashleyp

I am super impressed with my Purina Pro Plan dog food. It is very high quality and my dogs really love it. They appear to enjoy the taste and the nice crunchy texture. I really like the ingredients. It has everything that my dogs need for good nutrition. It looks and smells appealing. The kibble is not overly large which makes it easy for the dogs to eat. The calming aspect seems to be a great added bonus. It gives my dogs just the right balance. They have experienced no issues with this food. I do recommend this brand!rebecca.l
