Precision Pet Dog House For Sale (2024 Update)

I receive the item and the box was in good condition. Upon opening the item there were 8 pieces. 4 walls, the top and 3 pieces that make up the floor. 3 of the 4 walls were split by screws that were inserted on the pre-fabricated panels. I took pieces and sent them to customer service. I believe this was done before being boxed up to ship. Although I was offered a discount for the damaged item I don't believe it would last as the floor did not attach but rested on the ledge of the sides. When my dog stepped into the dog house the first time 1 of the 3 pieces that make up the floor flipped up. It is nice looking but the wood is very cheap. I would not recommend buying.Unhappy Customer

I expected better of this outdoor doghouse, especially for the price. It is made of "fir wood" which isn't a hardwood at all. Pine would have been sturdier. Assembly was easy but the house itself flimsy, with several of the pre-fab section not even nailed or glued together, and some pieces with parts of the wood broken off. Even in the "giant" size it was barely large enough for a 90lb GSD. The feet were plastic and the floor slated wood were the elements can creep through. This house is advertised as ideal for outdoor use – but I wouldn't trust it during a New England winter. It was sent back immediately. I would NOT recommend this manufacturer for outdoor dog houses. For less money you could build a better one out of more durable wood.Razor

I just opened my Small size Precision Pet Extreme Log Cabin doghouse today to assemble. It looks like it will assemble pretty well, although one of the sides is 3/16" out of square. Because the panels are firmly glued and screwed together it will require some adjustment/trimming to assemble correctly instead of attempting to break the glue joints and true it up. Obviously a rush job by the factory in Wuhan. The roof shingles do appear to be very well sealed and bonded together, however there are a few spots on the edges of the composition shingles on the roof where bare wood can be seen at the edges, which would allow water to get into the roof frame, so those spots will have to be sealed. The three piece floor has 1/8" gaps between the slats, so if you want the animal occupying the box to be comfortable when it is cold and windy, you will have to do some modification to the floor, which I plan on doing. The statement that the box is waterproof and weather resistant is a stretch. The stain/preservative used on all of the wood surface is so thin that pouring any water at all on the wood surface disappears as the wood instantly absorbs it. I will not put the box in service until at least 2 coats of a high quality exterior grade paint/stain is applied. If you try and use this box without putting a proper preservative coat on it, you might get one year of use out of it before it rots or suffers UV damage and cracks and splits. This doghouse is being re-purposed by me to be a Barn Owl nest box; the dimensions are almost perfect and as soon as I saw it I realized that it could be used for quick installation during the brief annual window between December to January during which Barn Owls are NOT in their box. All I really have to do is put an insert into the door to reduce the opening size, add a perch/balcony outside the opening, fix the floor, and of course, properly seal the wood so that it will last more than one season. My primary reason for paying the extra money for the "EXTREME" model was the feature description that said: Its stainless steel hardware also adds to its sturdiness. THIS IS A LIE! THE HARDWARE SUPPLIED IS NOT STAINLESS STEEL, so this is my major gripe. My guess is that China figures that most Americans can't tell the difference between stainless and non-stainless steel. I'm a retired engineer, and you can almost always identify stainless/non-stainless steel by its color and appearance, although the surefire test is with a magnet. Regular steel will be strongly attracted by a magnet, if it is stainless steel, you might get a very slight attraction. This stuff is definitely normal steel with maybe a thin coat of zinc – not stainless steel. I bought this as a shelter for when my house dogs were outside. I did not want to spend a lot of money because a) I didn't know if they would use it, and b) I didn't know if they would simply destroy it. The doghouse was slightly damaged in the case, but not enough to warrant the inconvenience of returning it. It is holding up okay, but is not really solid. The roof is held on with just four screws. The sides are thin. If your dogs are determined chewers this is not going to last. If your dogs are primarily kept outside and need a good shelter against the weather, look elsewhere.Gone 2 the dogs

Ordered online and pick up in store which made it so easy since not too many places ship to Hawaii. It was easy to assemble – had my teenage sons do it. Perfect size for my labrador puppy with enough space for him to grow in to. He went right in and took his toys inside. Happy with purchase and will by another one for my other dog.GW3k

I have this on my back porch away from the elements. It's been 6 months and it's still sturdy but I can't get either of my dogs to go INSIDE this dog house. I've made it comfy with dog mats and blankets but they still refuse. I put treats and food inside and that only got the attention of a baby skunk and a opossum (both of which LOVED the house!). My dogs simply use it as a perch to watch over the back yard. Combined they're a little shy of 80 lbs, so the roof holds very well!JaeDean

This dog house is made of light-weight balsam-type wood. The floor comes in 3 separate pieces and just lays in. The large house only lasted 2 months before 2 of the 3 floor pieces splintered and fell apart under my 80lb dog. I checked the splinters over carefully for chew marks (although he'd never chewed any part of the house) and wasn't able to find any. I only found very flimsy, tiny screws that I was surprised lasted as long as they did. Bottom line is this dog house is VERY poor construction. A complete waste of $125.HBelll

It's a good looking well built house! Bought this for a friends daughter's dog (Shih Tzu). They put it together with ease! After about a day, the dog was comfortable going in the house. But when you let down the plastic strips that is used as the door, the dog wouldn't come out or go back in when outside. So for now they leave the plastic door open until he gets used to it! And he will get used to it! But the dog does like the house. Suggestion: It's a good idea if you put a small bed or equilvelent inside the house to make it more comfortable. Especially that winter months are coming! Can't say how duable it is since it was only purchased a few weeks ago, but it seems to be.Roadrunner

I bought this dog house door for a chicken coop, actually, and it is EXACTLY what I needed. It provides a way to keep the heat inside the coop without a solid door that I have to continuously open and close. The chickens figured it out quickly, and it is VERY durable. I got this doghouse for my two, 4 pound toy poodles. I got it not for them to live in, but as a fun place for them to go while playing outside (sort of like a puppy playhouse). It is perfect size to fit both of them. It is thick, sturdy wood and is excellent quality. Assembly was easy, took about 30 minutes by myself, with just a screwdriver. I got the small doghouse and didn't need any assistance at all with holding it together or anything during assembly (which was my biggest concern before purchase). I also purchased the separate dog door and insulation, and those were extremely easy to incorporate. It is very good looking and I am proud to have it in my yard. My only problem is getting my puppies to use it. They do not yet see it as a playhouse. I'm going to put treats, food, and toys inside and see if they will start going in. I ordered a couple of these houses for my outdoor cats. They were easy to put together, but each house had a wood piece that was broke and I had to "gorilla glue" them together. Luckily the broken pieces of wood were in places that were not detrimental in keeping the house together. I thought about calling Hayneedle for replacements or something, but the houses have managed to stay together with the glued broken wood pieces, so I didn't bother.Cynthia

I purchased this dog house because its dimensions matched perfectly a concrete slab off of my back porch. I set it up about 3 weeks ago. Since then some of the vertical roof panels have buckled at the seems with the other vertical panels. It is exposed to sun from about noon & we had a light drizzle a few nights ago. I wonder if it will last through the winter as snow will accumulate on its roof & the wood is exceptionally light? My dog loves it, & like I said, it is a perfect fit off the back porch. I'm very happy with it, but fear the wood is too light to expect it to last maybe even through this winter. Sadly.Lucy

I bought the medium size house. It was very easy to put together, perfect size, puppy jumped right in and it looks great! I was really excited about it! The first night it was outside though it rained lightly and the next morning I discovered the roof had buckled up- very disappointing since it's an outside dog house so this should definitely not have happened! For this reason I don't recommend this particular dog house. But I do recommend Hayneedle! Their customer service is awesome, responds quickly and is very helpful!Danielle

My husband and I got a puppy from the pound. She was only 2 months old when we brought her home. Using this crate for the first year help us keep our home intact! she would only be put in the crate when we were gone, that way we knew she was safe and not getting into trouble chewing furniture or peeing in the house. those two door design is fantastic! So easy to get them in and out. She loved her crate like a second home. We added blankets and toys, food and water and there was plenty of room for our little Savannah….even now when she weighs about 60 pounds she still fits comfortably.jay.m

I have two of this size (one door model). I have had these things for ohhh, 10 years…I raised three rotty's in them and kept various rescues of all animal kinds in them until I could get them off to rescue people over the years. They did duty in the barn area for poultry for most of the last 6 years and got messed on all over the place, were damp in the winter and were used like tables with a board on top. Ended up with another rescue that might stay…looked at em all poultry encrusted and dusty and cobwebby and shook my head thinking they're done. They have been through the wringer the last 6 years. I realized I really don't have the money to buy new so decided to try to clean them up as a futile attempt to not have to buy more. I had to at least try. 2 hours ,a bucket of warm soapy water, a scrubby , washcloth and a hose later…OMG. They cleaned up GREAT. The handles of the latches were slightly slightly rusty here or there where the black coating flaked off (about the only place it has flaked off and then only small spots), the metal tubes that connects the panels together a little dull, pitted and slightly rusty here or there and that is IT! They still work just fine and they look award winning good considering where they have been. If not for the latches and the connector pieces they could pass as gently used items despite what they have been through. So essentially, if you want a solid, quality crate that is priced reasonably and WORTH every darn penny….go with precision crates. One precision crate could very likely last you all of your adult life if you stayed with the same size dog. As it is now we have the two x lrgs, 1 mediumish, and 2 for 30 lbs or less dogs. And because I am so impressed with what I have,….I'm going to be buying this X-lrg 2 door version to fit in a spot where a single door crate won't work in my house. Remember- Don't throw away an extra crate that is in working order, donate it to someone who can't afford a crate or find a rescue group that needs it (crates are good for lots of different animals).Windchyme

Finally, after buying several different brands that boasted 5-stars ratings and returning each one because of its sharp, unfinished wire ends/edges, this one arrived! No sharp edges! I have been using these large Permate dog houses to house my Nigerian Dwarf goats for many years. They have made "affordable housing" for my goats. I will say that my bucks (boys) are much harder on the houses than the does (girls). Both genders jump on top, but the bucks crack the rain shield by jumping on top of the houses. This happens after a while, not right away. I don't blame the company that makes these because they are intended for dogs, not goats that love to climb! I do wish the tops would be stronger to prevent this problem from happening. Another area to improve design would be for the top to somehow lock on to the base. When my Great Pyrenees (GP) dog goes inside to lay down, the lid can lift/tilt off. The large size is not big enough for a GP. The price keeps going up, and I'm not pleased with having to pay more. I wait until the neighbor club coupon comes out to buy any needed replacement houses. Over the years I've bought countless Permate Large dog houses, so I know these pretty well! My Lab and Australian Shepherd love these large Petmate houses too.Farmer Johns

Looks very nice and hardy but it floods when it rains, I don't know how but the water gets inside and it is too much water. I put a crate pad inside for my outdoor cat to stay warm and went to check on my cat a few hours later after it rained, and the pad was soaking wet not to mention the house was full of water more water than what was outside . The dog house comes in two parts – top and bottom. They do not snap together; the top merely sits on the bottom. No hardware is provided to attach the two and even if there was there are no holes through which one would thread screws or bolts (or whatever) to keep the dog house together. I use these for my goats because these houses are inexpensive but the goats knowingly and regularly have fun pushing up on the exit/entrance hole to "break" the house into two pieces. Yes, I laugh at their antics but I still plan to drill holes and use nuts/bolts to keep the top and bottom together.L McGaffey

We have a 6 month old cane corso/pit bull mix, he was 55 lbs and he loves his cage! He's got plenty room right now but so far this cage has paid for itself! He hasn't always loved it. He's bent multiple spots attempting to bust through to get out (sometimes he has while we were gone). Although now after his neuter with his cone and about a month before also going in and out easily. Super spacious!mama

Very nice and easy to assemble. Unlike most of the other crates we have used, could only find one sharp edge which, of course, I cut myself on. But I love the how the gates lift up and slide down for extra security on the latch mechanism. Also, the tray is perfect and does not slide around once the crate is assembled properly. Our puppies love it! By the way, have two Frenchton puppies. Their combined weight is about 18 pounds. They travel very well together in this crate. We got the 24 inch.E.

I had been rigging my dogs summer tent to shelter my stray cat..I fed her, so she’s mine lol…but it just wasn’t cutting it anymore and it is oddly cold this winter here in Alabama. I added a heavy layer of straw, some fleece blankets and she moved right on in! I feel better knowing she is safe, warm, well fed & happy! I used some drop plastic (thick), and duct tape to create a door that would keep the wind & rain out and warmth in! Couldn’t be happier!KimCole

I bought this directly from Petmate because it was bigger than the competitions and the same price. I use it for 2 of my feral cats to sleep in but am sure another large cat would fit in too. It was very easy to assemble ( just clicks together) and as soon as I filled it with straw the cats were happily sleeping in it.Fleur

I got this recently on a great sale price… it was half the cost of another dog house that I bought (and returned). The one I ended up returning was designed as an actual house, but cost $100 and the plastic was very flimsy… I felt it wasn't worth the price, and my dog never liked it. I looked online and saw this "dog house" (it's really a crate, IMO); and Petco had the least expensive price, at half the retail cost. I was also able to pick it up the same day at a local store, and received a further discount for picking it up at the store. There's only 2 pieces (a top and a bottom), and the top basically just sits on the bottom, with tabs that are supposed to hold it in place. It's not the most secure, but I don't see this being blown across the yard or anything. The plastic is heavy duty and sturdy… I mean sure, if you live in a tornado or hurricane area, then of course, yes, it'll get toss across the neighborhood; but otherwise, it should stay in place. Great for when you need to leave your pet outside for a while. It's very wide, but not very long though. My dog can curl up in here and he can fit, but he can not stretch out or lay out in this… which is fine, because dogs usually like sleeping curled up and they like snug fitting enclosures to sleep in. My standard size labradoodle fits into it. He uses it to sleep in. This is not something he can stand straight up in or something he can stretch out in… but for sleeping, he loves to curl up in it. I bought it for use outside during the winter or a rainy day, to get out of the cold or rain when I have to put him outside in the yard for a while. We put it inside the house first so that he would get use to it. The one I got said it was for dogs 50-90 lbs., which is the large size. He has no problem getting in and out of this, and he likes it a lot better than the Suncast house shaped doghouse I got him (which I ended up returning). This is plastic, but it's made of heavy duty plastic and it's sturdy; there's only a top and bottom part, and basically the top part sits on the bottom part, with tabs that are supposed to hold the two pieces together. Got these doghouses as an outdoor reprieve from the elements for our 2 Huskies. They are very sturdy and made of solid hard plastic. They've managed to remain dry inside even in a couple of downpours and driving rain. The only time that wasn't the case is when I had one on an uneven patch of grass. So you definitely want to place it on a platform if there's no flat surface. Unfortunately our pups, house dogs that LOVE to go out and play, still haven't embraced the concept of having a private pad "outside." Other than that, it's easy to set up and clean. It has plenty of room for our 70 pounder and is absolutely palatial for the 45 pounder. I got the large size for both since they were so affordable – $44 bucks each! Love the color. It was like an all night carnival ride when we put him in it in our bedroom overnight! We thought it would serve as an extra kennel and pet carrier for him. He is only ten pounds and we purchased the small one. But, it is not substantial enough in weight to stay still when he decided to move around in it. He went" head over tail" around the room in it all night. We are now looking for another metal crate. I see the other reviews are good. Perhaps we have an overactive doggie? This is lightweight, functional and versatile. We use it when we travel to relatives and in the back of our van to keep both our (small) dogs safe and in a familiar space when left alone. One of dogs is blind and this pen is always set up the same in unfamiliar places. It has a handy treat pocket and water bottle holder. There are doors on both sides for easy access and the top is removable. We like that it can sit in a circle or bend to fit where we need it to. All the materials and zippers are working great. Easy to fold up with an elastic keeper and carry case and very compact and lightweight. Also, it's easy to pack. Very sturdy, easy to assemble, easy to add more pieces for different configuration. My husband and I are breeders of champion rottweilers and found this kennel to be the perfect place for the pups when they left the whelping box. Easy in and out for humans and the door is such that it prevented pups from escaping during cleaning and feeding yet allowed mom access when necessary. I love Precision crates. I'm able to set one up in about 3 minutes, they fold back down for easy storage when not in use. I've never had a dog escape from one, and they come with every conceivable combination of sizes and door number/placement. This crate surpassed my expectations. It is sturdy and the door closures are secure. The three door feature is more of a nice-to-have than a need for me, but it has been useful from time to time. I was concerned that the metal crate would be noisy, it is not unless our dog is unusually restless. When that happens I need to be awake to take care of him anyway, so that's a no-big-deal for me. Currently considering the purchase of the 4000 for home use and leaving the 3000 in the truck cab permanently. Highly recommended.lgriz326

This crate offers the options of opening on the front, side and top. I find that to be very useful in the car and at home. Especially with puppies, I can put a litter in via the top and get then in and out one at a time with out chasing pups, or opening and closing a side door. It is well made also.Duchdog
