Petsafe Wireless Fence Small Dog Collar For Sale (2024 Update)

We installed the in ground wire around the perimeter of our property. I have one dog that digs under our fence and one that climbs the fence. These collars keep our dogs away from the fence and keeps them from running out into the street. We have had our fence for 5 years now and only replaced the collars once because I misplaced them. Batteries need replacement every few months. I like that the dogs get a beeping warning once they are within a few feet of the perimeter and only get shocked if they cross the boundary.fldolphinmc

I have a lab / hound mix that is 11 years old and she weighs about 85lbs. We began usin this collar since April 2017 and within 3 months, one of the prongs broke off. We contacted petsafe and were told that this is an uncommon problem and that the only way this could happen is due to "rough play, hitting it against an object, over-tightening the probes, etc." I have a hard time believing our senior aged dog plays rough enough to break the prongs of a durably made product. If you have a larger / sporting breed dog, i would steer clear of this product and go with Invisible Fence or the SportDOG brand from another retailer. They seem to cater to larger / sporting breeds. We've had our fence under a year, no problems with the actual fence. We have 2 dogs on the fence, 1 is an English Mastiff and the other is a Cocker Spaniel. The Cocker Spaniel's clip/closure cracked and broke off so we had to go out and search almost an acre of property to find it. We did find it but it is a PAIN to have to go out and search for a collar that you would not expect to break. Recently our English Mastiff has been strolling off the property, she has never done that in the almost year we have had it. First think I did was check the battery and decided to be safe we would change it!! That didn't work so I decided to take off the collar and check it to make sure it worked and it does but there are certain times when it don't. I have it on the highest frequency and I'm hoping this works, I will keep you informed. But us like others are missing the clear caps that cover the button to change the frequency. I don't understand how these pieces can come off unless we take them off, this tells me that there is a malfunction in your manufacturing if we are not the only ones missing these caps!! Then to top it off, you sell these clear caps and expect us to pay for them, something doesn't seem right. If you know these clear caps come off, shouldn't you be trying to fix this issue and offer those caps or free? ​Rich T

Has adjustable shocks levels so can start low if needed. Also has different prongs for different types of fur. Have these on 3 different dogs yorkie, labradoodle and pitbull and works great on each one.Nic Barbee

I got the stay and play this one goes to the undergound fence but both work great. Ever since i got them i dont have any more problems with the dogs getting out.. And i have 7 dogs. And have are very hard head. I have hounds huskies and other mixed..Doggroomer

By far the best price that I could find. The UltraLight Receiver Collar was in perfect shape and in excellent working order. The only condition issue was that the battery was nearly dead. I have a pup that is a large breed, he looks like I been feeding him steak and potatoes cause he's so dang big. He is ALL puppy though. Chews on everything loves running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Been trying to train him to chill with me, yeah, right. He wants to play. And because he wants to play, he wants to run every stinkin where. Decided, for my sanity as well as his safety, I'd get this thing. Put the flags out, set it on a low static charge, and it didn't take long before he figured it out. You DO have to WORK a dog with this. It's not just a plug it up and watch their hair shoot up when they get popped. Walked him around the perimeter for 7 days, he sees and sniffs the flags. After that, I let him run around, and he got popped maybe 3 times, and figured it out. Now he's pretty dang happy, and I can let him rip around with zoomies while I work in the yard. (Which I have to mention took 2 FULL DAYS TO INSTALL AND READY TO USE!!) My Bo would realize he was close to the boundary, take a step or two back then take a run right through it, with no second thought!!! We watched him do this several times. I guess he was thinking, well this is going to hurt but only for a few short seconds. Idk?? But it did NOT phase him one bit! I had talked to 4 or 5 people that had this system, so reluctantly I decided to give it a try. I thought to myself well if it doesn’t work I will simply return it, no harm no foul. My boyfriend had it installed and collar on Bo in 30 mins flat. We walked ole hard-headed Bo around maybe 4 times to show him the boundaries. Once he heard the beeping, he kept walking then he felt the shock 1 time and that must have been enough because he never ventured close again! It has been about 2 months of use and I would give it 100 STARS IF IT WAS AN OPTION! We live in a subdivision where houses are fairly close. I was ultimately worried that the zone would lead into the neighboring yard. (which was the #1 thing we are trying to prevent) And although it may, Bo doesn’t even attempt to go that far. I believe he now understands to stay in his own yard! Living in a subdivision, many people take walks and Bo just sits and watches them now!! Matter of fact, just to see, we have sent him outside WITHOUT the collar and ironically enough HE STAYS IN OUR YARD!! The ONLY complaint I have is the small clear piece on the collar broke off the first time I went to adjust the strength of the shock. So far it hasn’t effected anything so fingers crossed on that! Just an FYI, we set ours on a level 3 to begin with and my boyfriend was ready to give up, so I told him to have some patience and we just kept adjusting the level on the collar and we ended up discovering for Bo he needed to be set on a #6. Again, I repeat he weighs 180 lbs, and the Mastiff bread is KNOWN for their stubbornness. I would suggest starting at the lowest level for a smaller dog PLEASE! Ok, maybe my dogs do if they sneak out of range setting 6 on the collar will make your dog come off the ground like a bass breaking water setting 4 is definitely enough. I have never had a problem. I have been using PetSafe for at least 15 years. I wired a half acre lot and I just open the door and out my 2 dogs go and I know they are safe. We live in the middle of Dallas. I really like how it has worked over the years except….. Using the 16 ga. wire supplied, I used to get failure in the system. The receiver box would be beeping and not working. I would have to rewire sections of the wire for it to again work properly. This happened 5 or 6 times until I rewired the whole yard perimeter with 14 ga. wire. The system has never gone down since I did this 6 or 7 years ago. I give this a 5 star rating using 14 ga. wire.Lake

This collar works well with our older Instant Fence unit. We purchased it for our small (9lb) 9 month old pup. It fits her well, and is not to big for her. There is plenty of adjustment in the collar for different sized dogs. The battery life is excellent and she has responded well to wearing it in our yard. I only wish that it had an additional mode for a vibration alert as well as sound. It would also be nice to have a louder sound for us people. When training a small dog I had to bend over to try and hear the alert as we approached the boundary. But in the end, as long as the dog hears the sound, that's all that matters. Great way to keep your pet safe in your yard. When I called pet safe for information, the customer service rep. was very helpful in choosing the right collar for our needs. That helped a lot.3 pines

I have had my wireless system for 10 yrs, best money I've ever invested. My 85 lb Australian shepherd mix has total respect when set at #4. She will not leave the yard and has all the room to run she needs. And she is a runner. When the transmitter cord went out (after probly 5 or 6 yrs) they sent me free replacement in like 2 days. Only took 2-3 sessions and 2 mild static corrections to have my frisky Doberman trained! She loves to bolt into the woods at the first sign of this stray cat and nothing has been able to prevent it until now. I even let her out without the collar and she stays in the designated area. I heard that the battery dies quickly on the collar so when she is not outside, I take the battery out of the collar to lengthen the battery life. It's been 6 months and still on the original battery. If you live in a condo/townhouse, you may have to get creative with the base placement since the radius is a circle.dgoleno

We currently rent our home so putting up fencing is not an option for us. This wireless fence allows us to let our dog enjoy some perceived freedom. The system works very well and keeps our pup confined to our yard. Batteries in the collar have to be changed on a regular basis. If not, you may find yourself chasing down an overjoyed dog who intentionally runs through every puddle in your neighborhood. We did not receive a set of instructions. It is hard for us to dial in in a good parameter for our Chloe. Some areas of the yard the collar works & some of them do not. We have a 2 year old friendly lab who loves to walk in the road and go visit neighbors. This wireless fence has been a great solution and has kept her safe as well as save our sanity. She has plenty of room to roam in our yard but we no longer worry about her going in the street or running up to neighbors out walking. Took 2 days to train and has worked perfectly every day since. We also travel frequently and can take the system with us and keep her contained in other yards or at a beach house, etc. All you need is a single electric outlet. Money well spent, this is so worth it!! We have two dogs but we only bought this wireless dog fence with 1 collar to try it out to see how it works. We put it on our boxer to try it out because he is older than our German Shepherd. Long story short this not only contained The Boxer but it also trained Mimi (GS) where she is not allowed to leave.J.V

We bought this 2 years ago. We have 2 dogs. We just purchased our 4th collar. They just quit working about 18 months after purchase. The longest one of these collars has lasted for us is 20 months. Very frustrating. The collars are too expensive to be replaced any earlier than the recommended 3-5 years.kke2004

We tried it out, and my dog ran right through it. We tried what were supposed to be brand new batteries, sometimes it lights up,sometimes it doesnt. Stick to the kind that are rechargeable batteries, less headache! Dont know if it is the collar or the batteries now.that1970sgirl

Recently bought this product for my two dogs. I have a boxer and a jack russell. Both dogs learned within a few hours to listen for the beeps. My boxer loves it, because she can now roam from the backyard to the front yard. My jack russell however, is scared to move too much, so she’s still a work in progress, but I’m sure she will eventually work through it. The only negative I have about this product is the collar is pretty big and bulky for my jack russell. It’s a good size for my boxer, but I’ve noticed my jack russell has a hard time getting comfortable when laying down trying to nap.mtmontoya

I bought this for my Great Pyrenees, I have had sooo many issues with the collars. Either not holding the charge, turning off randomly or the shocking feature just not working. My dog will never learn to stay around and the boundary without the collar because it’s in their nature as a breed, so without it he would be running all around. I still check on him often because I do not totally trust the system to not fail. I try to have it on the largest setting for him to have ample space- but the hills of my yard, and the metal roof mess with it constantly. Some days he has a nice size area, other days he walks right past the house and gets beeped. It’s okay- I am hoping for our next house it won’t need to be used. With all the issues I’ve had with the collars- thankfully I was under my warranty so I got replacements, it’s not worth the price, and even though it’s working fine right now- it’s still not worth the price since it doesn’t give him the freedom I hoped for since the land and the roof seem to get in its way, per customer service.Martin16

This product works! It does shock my dog when he gets too far out of range, which is great. My only qualm so far is that the range on my system seems to fluctuate. I walked the perimeter a few times for the initial setup and placed flags down based on when I heard the beeping from the collar, but when my dog wears it, he can go another 10-20 yards before finally getting shocked, while I was getting shocked just outside where I placed the flags. Also, the beeping sound on my collar is probably loud enough for my dog to hear while he’s wearing it, but it is too quiet for me to hear while we are walking in the dried leaves with the wind blowing through the trees, and this has made training very difficult. It would be really helpful if the system came with a remote option so that I could have the collar beep or shock exactly when/where I want it to (e.g., when he’s getting very close to the flags and if he continues to walk beyond them) I know this would seem to defeat the purpose of training to the system, but I do think that training would go a lot faster bc I’d have more control in getting him to understand that when the collar beeps, he just needs to pull in a little closer to home. The system just doesn’t cause the collar to start beeping at a consistent radius, and since I can’t hear the beeping, I’m not giving him the immediate feedback he needs in order to understand how to react to that beep. I know this review definitely reads like it is a negative experience, but I will say that when my dog does get shocked, he doesn’t run away, so it works in that regard.Call

My back yard is partially fenced in. We got a new puppy auggie back in February, we named him Tatoe cuz he just looked like a little potato and I like potatoes haha. He has high energy and hates being on a leash of any sort. We tried one of those 30' lines so he could stay outside while we're at work but he hated it, yelped all day, and would get tangled up, poor little guy. My neighbor had complained about his yelping. We've had such a problem with him staying in the yard. He'd dart out the back door and wonder the neighborhood. It was so exhausting chasing him down every time. We contemplated for months to put up a fence. That was going to cost us around $1500 and that was just for the one side of the yard with the treeline "fence." I noticed one day when I was chasing him down that a neighbor's dog was sitting in the front yard watching and not attacking him (that was a big dog). I thought it was odd the dog wasn't running off the property after Tatoe. I saw the collar and it clicked… "I bet that is one of those invisible fences or something." I saw this one and was so excited! We were going to order it online but then I saw it at our local pet store. I love buying local and having it in hand right then. It was so easy to figure out and set up. The instructions said it'd take about a week or so to train the average dog. I set the boundary to 50', set the collar on 3, and put it on Tatoe that night. He takes off outside and hits the boundary. It starts beeping and then I hear him yelping. I see him running to me from the neighbor's back yard. That's seriously all it took. When I went out with him the next day he was very cautious when walking around the yard. At the very first beep he immediately flipped around and came back. I am amazed at how great this is! I'm sure all my neighbors are so much happier now that he's not pooping in their yards or yapping all day. This is the best! I am thankful for it every day. I don't worry about Tatoe outside anymore. If anyone has ever owned a husky or even know about the breed they are escape artist. My yard I thought was husky proof…apparently not. We used chicken wire around the fence so she couldn’t climb the fence, we put chicken wire in the ground so if she dug she’d hit that and we had done other things to the yard. Anyway long story short one day her and my sister dog got out of the yard and this was one of our last resorts. At first I was really frustrated with the product and upset that my husky would run out of the barrier and not care about the shock. I spent time training her where she was allowed to go and where she wasn’t. My sisters dog was easy to train, she got shocked once and knew not to go past It. FINALLY after months my husky stays where she’s supposed to and doesn’t go outside of It. They dogs still have 80% of the yard to run and play in. I have a pretty big back yard. Depending on your dog is might be the best option for you to keep your pet safe inside your yard. I still do not trust the fence 100% just because I know how my dog is.jacqueline.t

I've loved the fence since we got in it April but over the last couple weeks the collar and transmitter haven't seem to be communicating right. There's been no change to location and collar is always charged. Dog has been seen outside of normal boundary (which he doesn't breach). Upon bringing him back and checking the boundary again with him the collar on doesn't beep or give any indication the boundary has been breached. I've tried removing and walking the boundary holding it at dog level and it worked, put it back on dog bring him to the boundary and he walks right through with nothing. Try it again then all of a sudden it works. I don't have any idea what the heck is going on but it's confusing to my dog and it teaching him that sometimes he can breach the boundary with no consequences.Bburgess

I checked your product in a pet store yesterday and thought that the receivers for the collars were very large and clumsy. Do you make smaller receivers for small dogs. After my old collar broke and tractor supply would not restock their collars, my dog would chase cars down the driveway and bite at the tires. He no longer does this. Works well and got it in 3 days.traylor9865

One year and one month after I purchased this, the unit came apart completely. The housing separated into two parts. I have loved using this collar because the batteries constantly fall out of the other collars and that gets expensive. But buying one of these every year is not cheap either. 🙁DigitMom

I have owned this system for a yr and run 3 collars on it. At first it worked great 4 months in a collar stopped working it would show red light like charging but would never come on so i purchased another one 130 bucks (wow) with in weeks same thing to my other one called tech support this time they walked me theough how to turn it on (at this point i laughed at the begining of the call i stated i have had the system a year) they told me it must be broke and buy a new one. Well broke to me is nothing working but i have red light on charging and stays red for hours 8 to be exact on both of them so this is trash and do not expect help from tech support. So I originally posted that one year and one month after I purchased this, the unit came apart completely. The housing separated into two parts. I have loved using this collar because the batteries constantly fall out of the other collars and that gets expensive. But buying one of these every year is not cheap either. 🙁 Fortunately, when I called PetSafe I spoke to a very helpful rep who offered to replace the collar for me. I'm very grateful and very happy about this, since it is a very nice collar and easy to use. Here's hoping the failure of the first one was a fluke! I probably will ultimately get another one for one of the other dogs (we have 3!) once we use up all of the batteries we have. While I'm only giving three stars for the collar due to the short lifespan, I would definitely rate service at 5 stars!DigitMom
