My Dalmatian barks a lot, even in the middle of the night, when he hears something. It's been getting worse and very annoying. I decided to try this collar, not expecting much. To my surprise, the collar worked immediately! My dog got slightly "zapped" a couple of times, and then realized that his barking needed to calm down. I'm not saying he never barks at all anymore; it's just that once he starts, he gets a signal to stop, and that's all it takes now. He is very attached to my husband and used to bark and howl every time my husband left the house. That has stopped, too. I can't believe I found this item that has helped keep the peace in our house. I can't believe how great this bark collar works! We have a Bagle, Beagle/Basset Hound who is the sweetest boy ever, BUT he barks/Howls at everything that moves! My husband and I have affectionately termed it the eviction bark! Not only is it annoying to us, but I'm sure our neighbors are none too thrilled either. So, we decided it was time to try a bark collar. A friend of mine had used this one and had great success with it, so I purchased the same one. Wow, from the first time our dog barked and he got corrected, that was all it took for him. We had it on the lowest setting which is recommended and never even had to raise it higher! We are keeping it on him as per the instructions to make sure he's fully trained, but I must say we are truly pleased with the results of this collar and how quickly it worked. All in all based on our experience, I give this collar 5 stars! It was a great purchase and worth every cent we paid for it! Let me prequalify this by saying that I am a fan of PetSafe Products. The Stay and Play Wireless fence and the Large Dog Citronella Anti-Bark Collars have worked flawlessly for my medium size indoor/outdoor pup. I also have a 1.5 year old Yorkie, and the PetSafe Elite Little Dog Spray Bark Control has design and operational flaws that I can't overlook: 1. The unit's sensor is not a typical rear sensor, and it doesn't pick-up normal barking unless it is high intensity (this is WHEN it works). 2. The unit does not last for the full amount of sprays. 3. The unit has to be at a high level of tightness to the point of almost choking the dog to remain in place in order to be correctly positioned to both pick-up the barking and deliver the spray. 4. The unit does not have an ON/OFF switch other than turning the battery, and then you have to manipulate even that when wanting to reset the bark counter. The bark counter should be reset in the electronics when the battery is removed if that's the case and reflect this in the refill directions for the spray. At the end of the day, I have use spray collars for my outdoor dog at my home for years, so I am familiar with the quirks. I have remained faithful to PetSafe, and they never let me down. The Elite Little Dog Spray collar is not up to their usually high standards. I have bought one, exchanged one, and bought another to give this product a fair chance, and I am heading to Petco this morning to return the last one as a disappointed customer. I have moved to an apartment from a home in the process of building a new house, so it is imperative that I be able to reinforce that excess barking is not acceptable. I bought two of these and neither of them worked. The first one worked for about a week of occasional use. Then it started leaking a steady, tiny hiss of spray from the intake hole. Months later, on a road trip w/now 2 small dogs I picked up 2 of the older, silver models that use the 6 volt batteries. They still work great (2 years later, intermittent use for overnights away from home or having exciting visitors that the dogs celebrate vocally, Enthusiastically, unceasingly. Also for occasional backyard relaxing if the neighbor kids get the dogs too excited.) I shared one with my sister for her dog on a hotel overnight and it was a revelation to her. I tried to buy her one but can only find the new “elites” with that proprietary battery so I caved, hoping the leaky one I had was a fluke. I got a few inconsistent sprays out of it, many barks without spray, then it just quit completely. I tried a new battery, refilled the spray and The lights did their thing correctly when I followed the steps to turn it on. Then I tested it by loudly barking right up against The back of it, tapping the back of it, holding it against my own throat and trying different tones of loud singing and yelling… nothing. I’ve wasted too much $ on the bad new design ones that don’t work. I really wish I could get another old silver model one to give my 4 legged niece. Obviously the requirement of a $15 proprietary battery makes this PetSafe’s preferred model to make, regardless of it’s consistent failure to function. Disappointing.JenMN

I bought the bark collar for my small breed dog who whines constantly & barks at every noise she hears. The collar worked great the first month, and then started shocking her randomly, when she wasn’t making a noise, and then quit all together. I tried to reset it per the instruction manual, and it didn’t work. I have made sure it’s on her neck properly, the green light has still been flashing saying it’s charged after 6wks. I charged it once today, and she has whined constantly since I put it back on her without a shock. So I am very dissatisfied with this collar. It advertises that is it for whining & barking. 1 month of working is not worth the high price.Sfreddie

The PetSafe bark collar is a basic bark collar with built in levels of correction. repeated barking activate higher levels of correction. In the base model, programming is done with the on/ off button. Confirmation of operation is accomplished by audio feedback. My hearing is not the best, and I had to hold the collar right next to my ear to hear the tones, but otherwise operation is strait forward I tried the collar on two different size dogs with excellent results. One was a medium size dog, a standard Poodle of about 40 pounds and the other, a small dog, a Schipperke, about 12 lbs. Both dogs responded well to the collar. I believe the size of the collar might become a factor in smaller dogs, especially when combined with other collars (license, flea etc.). The collar is rechargeable with any USB source and the USB cable is included, along with a test light and different size tips for the various dogs. Over all, the bark collar is a convenient, effective, and safe means do deter nuisance barking.Rust T

I purchased this product for a new puppy who was being crate trained in an apartment. I chose this particular model because of the 15 incremental levels of correction and because of the recharging feature. I have used other models in the past and spent a fortune on model specific batteries. The collar itself was easy to fit. Even on a three month old puppy. It worked as advertised delivering incremental correction upon detecting a whine or bark. The problem is the dog failed to cease barking instead increasing his barks to the given correction. The collar was removed and another attempt was made to use the collar again with the same results. Two other attempts were made but by then the dog became visibly agitated at the site or placement of the collar. I returned the collar to tractor supply without any difficulties for a full refund. I decided to follow a more holistic approach and purchased Naturvet Hemp Quiet Moments soft chews. These chews given 45 minutes before crating do the trick and he now enters and remains quiet. It has taught him his crate is his safe space. The Naturvet product was purchased at Tractor Supply. We buy all of our food and treats and other supplies for the quality, fair prices, availability and extremely friendly associates, thanks again Emma. Purchased this collar from Chow Down pet supplies. It had absolutely zero effect on my dog. He completely ignored whatever sound was coming from the device. I threw this away and got a much pricier static correction collar that has customizable settings. No comparison, much more effective… don't waste your money on cheap pet safe products.D Cooper

When I first got my puppy at 6 months old he would constantly bark. I was told at the store this is not a very good bark training collar, but if I wanted something inexpensive to try it and if it didn’t work I could return it. I was then hesitate that it didn’t work, but still tried it and loved it! Every time he barked you could see the light flash on it. 1 downfall is the collar can be easily rotated around the neck no matter how tight you have it if the scratches at it. It needs to be kept in the front of the dogs neck, and as high up the neck as possible. So you have to keep adjusting it, but I also found it shocks them if they are doing something they aren’t supposed to, and when you yell loudly at them it shocks them as well. So it serves a multipurpose of bark control, and obedience. I only had to use it on my dog for less than a week, and he stopped the constant barking, chewing, and was 100% more obedient! I’d recommend it to anyone who doesn’t want to spend a crazy amount of money on training collars, or bark collars! Worked great!Lauj

my dog can’t even shake his head without getting a correction. Almost any sound cause him to get a correction so it is scary and confusing for him. It would be nice if there was a sensitivy adjustment but the collar as designed is not helpful. The average bark of a dog compared to the sounds that are setting this off are not the same and all will cause the dog anxiety due to the false stimulations.Heather52

We've been using this bark collar on our German Shepherd and it's working! He barks at everyone out the front window or while on car rides and his bark is very loud. I've tried other collars in the past that give off a beeping noise and can be controlled by a remote control, but that beeping sound scares my mini poodle too much so we had to stop using it. I was excited to try this collar knowing it releases a different type of sound. So far it distracts the GSD and works to deter him from barking. I've had this collar for about 6 months. I have two Bichons and they bark at everything that moves. I'm buying a second one now. I've read all the reviews and find some of then misleading or not enough information provided to base a purchase on… for a first time buyer. FIRST, the collar has to be adjusted to fit the dog snug. I does not have to choke them but it does NOT need to move freely if you try to move it. Some of the reviews say it moves from side to side… it should not do that and it won't work if it does. SECOND, test the collar! Not on you 😉 … but install the batteries and scrape the contact points across a tile floor or rough surface to see if it works. If it beeps with the static, then you're ready to start testing it on the dog. A little shock is not going to kill them but a barking dog will cause my neighbors to become homicidal. It's a win win! I only use the collar when we go on walks, have the front door open and they can see everything. They learn so fast! When I put them in the crates, I'll lay the collar in front of the crate so they can see it and it stops the excessive whining at night for my "pit wannabes". One of my bichons is extremely hyper and this helps calm her a lot. It's like a xanax!julie331

Went through two of these things. Different problems with each one. With the first one, the knob to control the intensity level came off after two weeks, so you didn't know if it was on, off, in test mode or at what intensity. Exchanged it for another one. The new one was just as junky. After three weeks, the bark control mechanism started falling apart. The mechanism was literally coming apart at the seams and to top it off, the knob came off again. This is a poorly made product…save your money!!! I should note that the collar was only used in the evenings to keep my dog from barking all night long.( The cats like to rub on her kennel and tease her when she is in there for the night) It was never on her during the day or when she was outside.BobRoberts

This product does exactly what I expected it to do. It starts with small warning shocks, then works up to stronger ones if my dog continues to bark. Although, it did not take very long for my dog to understand that his barking is what is being corrected! On the first day of its use, he is walking SO much better on leash. He used to bark aggressively and pull anytime he saw people or other dogs, but now he acts like they don't exist and walks calmly! I feel extremely relieved going on walks now. The collar itself is made of a bendable plastic-like material that is waterproof, which is really nice considering we live in Washington where it rains a lot! I love that the power button has a light that lets me know when I need to charge it. The instructions say that it takes around 5 hours to fully charge, but I only charged it about an hour before going on a walk and it worked for a couple of hours! What I love most about the collar is that even though it is labeled for dogs 8lbs. and up, we still were able to get it to fit our 6-7lb. Chihuahua! We have a small dog that loves to bark at anything and everything. This works great at keeping her quite all day. It is easy to adjust to the right size and just finding the right level that works for your dog is easy. The instructions are easy to follow and you will have it ready in no time at all. Just recharge it when you do not have it on your dog and it will be good to go the next time. I just put it on him when it is needed and rest of the time he is quiet as can be. Purchased this 5 days ago, and have found it to work great! Just after putting it on first time, Curly barked his head off when family drove over for outside visit. I readjusted the fit after that, and has been working very well. When Curly’s normal bug triggers happen ( delivery man), he has let out one big bark.., then just rather cute little woofs. I’m happy he can still communicate, but has learned to use his ‘inside voice’! I’m careful and follow directions to avoid any potential negatives, like always off at least 12 hours per day. I'll first start by saying I never do reviews. However I was at my wits end with our nine month old chiweenie. I thought my husband was going to kill me and the dog…and I was praying my neighbors did not have guns because this little 8 pound cutie barked like a 100 lb squealing pig at anything and everything! Previous to this device I tried the citronella collar and the ultrasonic remote. Neither phased her. I will say on day one I thought this thing was a piece of junk. I called pet safe and learned that the collar needs to be tightly fitted on the dogs neck or it will not work. After adjusting the collar and I was still on the phone with the representative my Daisy girl went outside and I witnessed it working immediately. We still have some light barking which I imagine occurs before the strengthened static but it is completely manageable. I will say after reading the reviews we have lucked out with the battery… It has been in use with an aggressive Barker for a month and still has not needed to be replaced. Our only downside is that the collar is bulky… I take it off when she comes inside. If I do forget to put it on when she goes outside she will bark up a storm again! I bought two Basic Static Bark collars to help alleviate my puggle's and beagle's separation anxiety barking when we are not at home. The collars are fitted properly and in accordance with instructions and the batteries are working, yet BOTH dogs continue to bark. The biggest problem is that both collars tend to move to one side of the dogs' necks, so the dogs are probably not receiving the static correction. The directions state to "REPOSITION THE COLLAR ON THE PET'S NECK EVERY 1 TO 2 HOURS.." Obviously, if we are not home, this is impossible to do. I wasted almost $100 on collars that do not work on either dog. Petsafe customer service recommended that I should purchase the more expensive Deluxe Petsafe Collar. No thanks. I bought this about a week ago after I received a complaint from a neighbor and was given a warning from our HOA for disturbance. We had just moved in about a month ago and didnt want to make enemies. My dog barks at everything. From shadows, birds to airplanes. I decided to give this a try. I was skeptical and thought for sure this wouldn't work. I put it on my dog and let him loose in the backyard. Sure enough he barked once and to my surprise, stopped! I noticed there were people walking their dogs (we lived right next to the dog trail) and sure enough my dog darts out to the back yard and again barked once, then stopped. I was shocked! I wanted to see if it was really working so I took it off and my dog ran out there and started his annoying bark. I called him in and out the collar back on and again ran out but this time he did not bark. I must have done this about 3-4 times and the results were the same. We installed the in ground wire around the perimeter of our property. I have one dog that digs under our fence and one that climbs the fence. These collars keep our dogs away from the fence and keeps them from running out into the street. We have had our fence for 5 years now and only replaced the collars once because I misplaced them. Batteries need replacement every few months. I like that the dogs get a beeping warning once they are within a few feet of the perimeter and only get shocked if they cross the boundary.fldolphinmc

I have a lab / hound mix that is 11 years old and she weighs about 85lbs. We began usin this collar since April 2017 and within 3 months, one of the prongs broke off. We contacted petsafe and were told that this is an uncommon problem and that the only way this could happen is due to "rough play, hitting it against an object, over-tightening the probes, etc." I have a hard time believing our senior aged dog plays rough enough to break the prongs of a durably made product. If you have a larger / sporting breed dog, i would steer clear of this product and go with Invisible Fence or the SportDOG brand from another retailer. They seem to cater to larger / sporting breeds. We've had our fence under a year, no problems with the actual fence. We have 2 dogs on the fence, 1 is an English Mastiff and the other is a Cocker Spaniel. The Cocker Spaniel's clip/closure cracked and broke off so we had to go out and search almost an acre of property to find it. We did find it but it is a PAIN to have to go out and search for a collar that you would not expect to break. Recently our English Mastiff has been strolling off the property, she has never done that in the almost year we have had it. First think I did was check the battery and decided to be safe we would change it!! That didn't work so I decided to take off the collar and check it to make sure it worked and it does but there are certain times when it don't. I have it on the highest frequency and I'm hoping this works, I will keep you informed. But us like others are missing the clear caps that cover the button to change the frequency. I don't understand how these pieces can come off unless we take them off, this tells me that there is a malfunction in your manufacturing if we are not the only ones missing these caps!! Then to top it off, you sell these clear caps and expect us to pay for them, something doesn't seem right. If you know these clear caps come off, shouldn't you be trying to fix this issue and offer those caps or free? ​Rich T

I got this bark collar for my two dogs and it worked wonderfully for a few months. They completely stopped barking! But then, the battery wouldn't stay charged. I was told that I might be doing something wrong that ruined the battery. Customer Service was uber helpful (5 stars for them!) and they sent me a new collar for free. I ended up going through five collars in just a few months with the same problem each time. The rechargeable battery is the only problem with this product, but it is a huge problem. When I finally asked Customer Service if they had any spray collars with a different type of battery, they directed me to the Elite Spray Bark Collar. When I got the collar they only had the one for little dogs, but it still works amazingly for my big dogs! It does all the same things as the rechargeable one except that it uses non-rechargeable batteries. These batteries last way longer than the rechargeable one though so it's a win-win! I highly suggest looking at the Elite Spray Bark Collars!!!NIKKI 😉

Supposed to have 35-45 sprays but it sure didn’t. We put the collar on him and angled the camera so we could watch him and try to train him to stop. He barked and it sprayed. He continued to bark. It continued to spray. It shut off like it’s supposed to. We went in and the whole place smelled like citronella. We walked back out after trying to calm him. He barked and it sprayed. He kept barking and then it stopped spraying and started flashing that it was out. The. Citronella cartridge only had maybe 5-8 sprays. We had to leave for a few hours that afternoon and we put the unscented cartridge in. After being gone for only an hour or two it was empty as well. We watched video of him and he continued to bark through the sprays. It had no effect. However, it also only had maybe 10ish sprays in it total. The cartridges aren’t worth the money as they don’t have what they are supposed to have in them. The collar was not worth the money as the spray didn’t even phase our dog. Maybe it works for others but it didn’t do anything for us apart from leave a citronella smell in the air for a few minutes.MarkD504

For starters I am not a person who usually leaves reviews but this product deserves it! I bought two of these collars for my two of my noisier dogs. I have tried everything to control their barking – trying to distract them with treats, spraying them with water to correct the behaviour, using high frequency clicker and using a training collar that I would beep if they barked as a warning and then it would vibrate if they barked again. None of these worked so I gave up for a bit, until I saw this collar come up as I was researching new collars to try – I decided to give it a shot since it was different than the methods I have previously tried. My god, it is incredible! I put the collar on my noisiest dog, a terrier, (his barking is out of control) and he barked once and it sprayed him and he has not barked since – I went from having him bark at every little sound he heard outdoors to peace and quiet. I love this product and I highly recommend it! P.S. It also works for my other dog, my terrier just gets her hyped up with his barking but now they are my quiet little hellhounds 🙂lbll12

First, this product works when used according to directions. My dog is a 7 lb malti-poo and all the other collars are too big for little dogs. The collar made her yelp the first few times it gave corrections, which scared us a little bit, but it seems that it doesn't really hurt them because now the first correction doesn't make her yelp after she got used to being corrected. I think it just scared her the first few times. But be prepared for that if you have a very small dog. Within a few days the barking was already under control, she barks once (or not at all), and then just growls a little bit. She has learned to keep it under the radar. We took the collar off for a few days and the learning seems to carry over. I think it will take a few months to make permanent, but it is definitely working. The only problems with this collar are that it is still somewhat big for a 7 lb dog and tends to move around on her neck quite a bit. It is difficult to prevent it from moving without making it too tight. But I still think this is the best out there for this size dog. The battery dies very rapidly in the beginning when they are learning. So order a spare from the beginning, if your dog barks a lot you will only get a few weeks out of the first battery. I shopped around quite a bit and found this to be the best price for this product.letsmakeadealiooo

I have a bigger 4 year old silky terrier about 20 lbs which I adopted about 6 months ago from the city kennel. I figured out pretty quickly he didn't like the mailman, passersby the front window, squirrels, birds, parked cars, anything and everything. He destroyed the wood trim on my front window trying to get at everything. Needless to say he was a handful. I tried the can with coins, squirt bottles, happy shhhs, treats, toys to distract him, just about everything to no avail. So one of my clients suggested the citronella spray no bark collar. At first I thought that's something I don't really want to do to him, because he is small. Finally I had it, went out and bought the citronella spray no bark collar. It started shooting out citronella for no reason…so I packed it up, took it back, paid the extra and got the little dog static no bark collar…I am sooooooooo glad I did. THIS PRODUCT WORKS GREAT. Initially I felt horrible, but there had to be a line drawn and my sanity and home have been saved. He is a completely different dog. Well behaved, calm, chews his Kong and relaxes with no barking. I initially had to test it out with the mailbox, went out of sight, opened and slammed it loudly so he could hear. He started barking, then yelped a little. By the 3rd time he was sitting there. Not a peep…so he is still getting used to the collar, but I swear it was worth the 100 dollars. You will have a new dog and peace and quiet. Just follow the directionsMike

The collar worked brilliantly, if you're not concerned about your 12-pound dog jumping about two feet in the air and letting out a screeching yelp that's louder than his bite. This is exactly what happened with our dog; he was obviously given a very painful jolt. He barked once, and then KABLAM! (We immediately took the collar off.) So the product might actually "work," but the intensity of the jolt was way too much for our dog. (Spare me any conjecture that this should be considered normal.) Looking at the specs for this product, it's intended for "small dogs" that are "55 pounds or less." Since when is a 55-pound dog considered "small"? My guess is that the collar is not very well calibrated for smaller dogs — in the 5-15 pound range. Our new pup now almost 1 1/2 years old, was a barking machine. Hard to control or stop. We got this hoping that would help and it has. Our dog has a LOT of fur and it was hard to get contact but when that issue was resolved we noticed the barking decreased within a day or two. When we took off the collar, there was a tendency for our dog to ramp up again but once it was back on, the excess barking stopped. The dog has now figured out, collar on, no barking. Collar off, barking some is ok. Hopefully that goes away with time. Next we need to work on whining, sigh…Mossman1

The PetSafe Bark Collar has been a tremendous help with our Australian Shepard who loved to bark at anything and everything from dusk until dawn. We put the collar on right away and it started working immediately for him. It doesn't seem to hurt him at all. I think it startled him more than anything but he is fine. We are able to take him on walks now and to the park . The kids are not scared of him anymore and we can actually talk to each other calmly without having to get frustrated trying to talk over his barking. I read all the reviews on a lot of bark collars and the PetSafe Barking Collar – PBC17-16635 by far had the best reviews. After talking with my husband we decided to purchase. Once received we read the instruction manual and did as it said but no matter what we did nothing was working. I emailed and Jason sent through a video lnk which gave us more of a clearer understanding of what to do. Upon following those instructions I cant fault it. Nothing is more annoying when you trying to sleep and a dog starts barking, you have yelled and yelled for it to stop but it seems it just gets worse. Finally something that helps it to stop. Not only does it help stop the noise but it's pretty too. It looks like a bird house but instead of calling the bird it's stopping the dog. It is water proof, you can set the timer for the hours you don't want to hear barking or if you want it to stop all the time then you can leave the timer off. It says 50 feet but if you turn it more toward the barking you can add a couple more feet to it and still stop it. Best part it is so pretty that people will be commenting on it and if you don't tell them they won't know it's to stop barking. And it doesn't bother anyone other than the dog. They will slowly learn when it's OK to bark and when it's not.Joyce1

I love the fact that this looks like a regular birdhouse but is actually to help with bark control! Its very well made and it works great! As soon as I turn it on there was an immediate reaction. Its nice to be able to hang in the backyard, as our neighbors just let their dogs sit at our fence and bark all night- things have been much quieter around here! This is a strange device for sure. I understand the concept behind it, but I'm not sure how much it really works in practice. We have a miniature dachshund who, prior, would bark at anything and everything as it passes. When I first went to install this device, it would start activating in my hands as I walked it outside. This got my dogs attention and he already knew that he didn't like it. When I put it up in our tree, my dog started barking at it knowing that this was the thing making awful (to him) sounds. To my ears, it just sounds like a bit of clicking. As days went on, I do notice that my dog does more of a "quiet" bark now (more of a woof, instead of a full on bark) when we are outside and there is nothing to bark at. However, if there is a another animal around, or a neighbor walking their dog, my dog doesn't even realize this bark control is going off. And if he goes into a frenzied barking fit, he also doesn't realize that any sort of bark control is going off. So, my thought on this is: Yes, it works to a degree. I wouldn't say it is the end-all solution to your dogs barking, but it might get them to quiet down a little bit when there really is no reason for them to be barking and nothing to bark at.Trev

This bark collar has accomplished its purpose; our 2 1/2 year old boxer doesn't bark at the neighbors, at cars pulling in the driveway, or any other movement or sound that he used to bark at. However, this collar makes the exact same beep/correction as our dogs wireless fence collar. The first time he was corrected for barking he thought he was outside his boundaries, but really he was well within them..he became confused and very reluctant to come outside…It took the better part of a day to get him to play frisbee the way he used to.. I have two dogs, only one of them has a barking problem. I put the collar on him and adjusted it according to the instructions. I let the dogs out in the yard and he barked at something and got a shock from the unit (it beeps when it activates, so you know it went off). It stopped his barking right away. A bit later he ran across the yard and it went off again (wasn't barking). A few moments later the other dog tackled him and it went off again (still wasn't barking). I later found out that the unit activates off vibration, so any number of activities can trigger it. You would be much better off to buy one of the remote activated units, where you decide when to trigger it. They cost a lot more but your dog won't get punished for running around in the yard.Workinman

I purchase this bark collar when it was on special last week and I have to say that I LOVE IT! I have a 20 lbs dog that was extremely vocal with a high pitch voice so you can image how noisy it could get. I tried training her with different techniques but if you are not consistent those techniques would not work. With the bark collar the training was instant! Somebody would come knock on the door… one bark and it was over (instead of 15 min of high pitch barking). She now seems more come and relax when somebody come to the door. She doesn't have the bark collar on strait time, I do take it off at night and I have notice that even if she doesn't have the bark collar on she has lowered the tone of her bark and she doesn't bark as much. I don't have any problems with a dog who bark to let me know if somebody is knocking on the door or if she wants to go outside to do her thing so I believe the bark collar was the best thing for us. The only minor down side would be that you have to make sure the collar is placed right in front of the dog's throat so you will have to adjust it every now and then. If it is not place properly it will not correct the dog.Fufner

The collar has some pretty big (1") sensor probes that look not so comfortable on the neck, probably necessary for the deterrent. The on/off is pretty sensitive to get it on, you need a dime or something to turn on/off which is good so when the dog wears it the normal movements won't accidentally turn it off. That being said, it is necessary to move it around to the exact position and confirm green light that it is on. You can't just turn it to the word ON, it may need to be ever so slightly adjusted a fraction one way or the other to make sure it is on. Our particular experience seemed to work well on our dog, it only took a couple of times of it vibrating to startle our dog and get her to realize that it was because she barked. It didn't seem to vibrate on growling only barking and we had it pretty tight and her hair is short. It would not be something you would want to leave on your dog forever because I am sure the probes in the neck are not so comfortable for the dog. Overall my dog has reduced her barking about 90% even without the collar on. If she has a particular barking episode on our lanai we put the collar back on for a while and she figures it out. She does seem pretty sad with it on but she is learning quickly and hopefully it won't be for long. The vibration doesn't seem to hurt her, just startle her and that does the job. I think the results could really vary from dog to dog and maybe the breed tendencies play into it. For the investment and result WE got it was well worth it to have less barking here in Hawaii and that peace for us and our neighbors.SDaymon

I tried the bird house bark control device with disastrous results (see my review). I needed something, because my outside, extremely nervous, submissive dog barks incessantly. A harsh word, and she reacts as if she's been struck, which she never is. She flinched with sudden moves. This led me to be extremely cautious when seeking a bark control collar. I discussed it with my vet, and we decided that due to her personality, a vibration collar would probably be the best choice. It has been fantastic! She instantly associated the vibration with her bark. She hardly ever barks now, even when her brother does. The best part? No bad side effects! She's not even scared of the collar! I remove it at night when I lock them in their air conditioned garage, and in the morning when I put it on she reacts as if I'm putting on any old collar. Bought one for a rescued bully that had severe old barking due to living on a 3 foot chain…he used to bark nonstop because thats all he knew.. this taught him to calm down in just a couple weeks. I'll first start by saying I never do reviews. However I was at my wits end with our nine month old chiweenie. I thought my husband was going to kill me and the dog…and I was praying my neighbors did not have guns because this little 8 pound cutie barked like a 100 lb squealing pig at anything and everything! Previous to this device I tried the citronella collar and the ultrasonic remote. Neither phased her. I will say on day one I thought this thing was a piece of junk. I called pet safe and learned that the collar needs to be tightly fitted on the dogs neck or it will not work. After adjusting the collar and I was still on the phone with the representative my Daisy girl went outside and I witnessed it working immediately. We still have some light barking which I imagine occurs before the strengthened static but it is completely manageable. I will say after reading the reviews we have lucked out with the battery… It has been in use with an aggressive Barker for a month and still has not needed to be replaced. Our only downside is that the collar is bulky… I take it off when she comes inside. If I do forget to put it on when she goes outside she will bark up a storm again! I bought two Basic Static Bark collars to help alleviate my puggle's and beagle's separation anxiety barking when we are not at home. The collars are fitted properly and in accordance with instructions and the batteries are working, yet BOTH dogs continue to bark. The biggest problem is that both collars tend to move to one side of the dogs' necks, so the dogs are probably not receiving the static correction. The directions state to "REPOSITION THE COLLAR ON THE PET'S NECK EVERY 1 TO 2 HOURS.." Obviously, if we are not home, this is impossible to do. I wasted almost $100 on collars that do not work on either dog. Petsafe customer service recommended that I should purchase the more expensive Deluxe Petsafe Collar. No thanks. I bought this about a week ago after I received a complaint from a neighbor and was given a warning from our HOA for disturbance. We had just moved in about a month ago and didnt want to make enemies. My dog barks at everything. From shadows, birds to airplanes. I decided to give this a try. First, this product works when used according to directions. My dog is a 7 lb malti-poo and all the other collars are too big for little dogs. The collar made her yelp the first few times it gave corrections, which scared us a little bit, but it seems that it doesn't really hurt them because now the first correction doesn't make her yelp after she got used to being corrected. I think it just scared her the first few times. But be prepared for that if you have a very small dog. Within a few days the barking was already under control, she barks once (or not at all), and then just growls a little bit. She has learned to keep it under the radar. We took the collar off for a few days and the learning seems to carry over. I think it will take a few months to make permanent, but it is definitely working. The only problems with this collar are that it is still somewhat big for a 7 lb dog and tends to move around on her neck quite a bit. It is difficult to prevent it from moving without making it too tight. But I still think this is the best out there for this size dog. The battery dies very rapidly in the beginning when they are learning. So order a spare from the beginning, if your dog barks a lot you will only get a few weeks out of the first battery. I have a bigger 4 year old silky terrier about 20 lbs which I adopted about 6 months ago from the city kennel. I figured out pretty quickly he didn't like the mailman, passersby the front window, squirrels, birds, parked cars, anything and everything. He destroyed the wood trim on my front window trying to get at everything. Needless to say he was a handful. I tried the can with coins, squirt bottles, happy shhhs, treats, toys to distract him, just about everything to no avail. So one of my clients suggested the citronella spray no bark collar. Initially I felt horrible, but there had to be a line drawn and my sanity and home have been saved. He is a completely different dog. Well behaved, calm, chews his Kong and relaxes with no barking. I initially had to test it out with the mailbox, went out of sight, opened and slammed it loudly so he could hear. He started barking, then yelped a little. By the 3rd time he was sitting there. It is simple and easy to get started. Distance is accurate. If puppy/ dog has thick fur definitely have to unlock static levels. Vibrate only one level no to slight response viewd with our dog thick fur. Battery life not best, no off switch for remote, and you can only do 2 choices quickly (tone and vibrate or tone and static) only negatives. We use tone and static due to our dogs thick fur/ response.WMA6

I bought the 300 yard lite about 2 months ago for my 1 yr old Springer spaniel who is a little shy and very sensitive to corrections yet loves to bark at the neighbors. He usually stays in yard but does wander to neighbors on occasion to bark at them. Underground fencing not a good option for me so I tried this device. Wow it’s amazing! I trained him on our boundaries and recall with lots of praise and have only had to use the tone and vibration modes. The barking and preoccupation with neighbors has decreased substantially. We have had this PetSafe 300 for a couple of years now. It most definitely works in the 300 yard area. It is also very tough! It has survived several playful Corgis, and is now on a very rambunctious German Shepard. We really like the many selections you have with this trainer, from low to high. The hand held remote battery seems to last forever between charges, but the collar not so long. We seem to only get two days worth out of a charge at the most, which is why I can't give it a full 5 star rating. I would give it 4.5 starts if that was possible. Overall we would definitely buy again. We are looking to get another collar so the other can charge while one is on the rambunctiously large German Shepard puppy. I say puppy.. She's like 75lbs!!! Ok, maybe my dogs do if they sneak out of range setting 6 on the collar will make your dog come off the ground like a bass breaking water setting 4 is definitely enough. I have never had a problem. I have been using PetSafe for at least 15 years. I wired a half acre lot and I just open the door and out my 2 dogs go and I know they are safe. We live in the middle of Dallas. I really like how it has worked over the years except….. Using the 16 ga. wire supplied, I used to get failure in the system. The receiver box would be beeping and not working. I would have to rewire sections of the wire for it to again work properly. This happened 5 or 6 times until I rewired the whole yard perimeter with 14 ga. wire. The system has never gone down since I did this 6 or 7 years ago. I give this a 5 star rating using 14 ga. wire.Lake

This collar works well with our older Instant Fence unit. We purchased it for our small (9lb) 9 month old pup. It fits her well, and is not to big for her. There is plenty of adjustment in the collar for different sized dogs. The battery life is excellent and she has responded well to wearing it in our yard. I only wish that it had an additional mode for a vibration alert as well as sound. It would also be nice to have a louder sound for us people. When training a small dog I had to bend over to try and hear the alert as we approached the boundary. But in the end, as long as the dog hears the sound, that's all that matters. Great way to keep your pet safe in your yard. When I called pet safe for information, the customer service rep. was very helpful in choosing the right collar for our needs. That helped a lot.3 pines
