Arrived quickly. Easy to set up. Very light. Some small pieces might blow away with heavy wind, like the screw covers on roof and the side panel that only holds shut with two flimsy removable tabs. Not for a large dog, but my medium 35 lbs dog likes it and fit snug inside. Dog house looks nice and can be moved easily.Anonymous

It's not extra large, that's for sure. It's a large. My two Berner males at 94-lbs and 120-lbs don't go in because they can barely turn around in it. Nor my 88-lb Pyrenees. The material itself is great. But isn't the point that the dog can get in/out of it so they use it? My smaller 72-lb female uses her Ex-Lg. So is it really the size a medium dog should use? I spent $$ for 5 Extra Lg and 1 dog uses it. Not a happy camper.SCloudcroft

Purchased a second XL house for our two Great Pyrenees because they no longer fit in one together. Our original is over 15 years old and is in great shape. Love the new design with the slight angle that provides more space and blocks the wind. Durable and strong material, yet still lightweight and easy to move.S Ringo

I have been using these large Permate dog houses to house my Nigerian Dwarf goats for many years. They have made "affordable housing" for my goats. I will say that my bucks (boys) are much harder on the houses than the does (girls). Both genders jump on top, but the bucks crack the rain shield by jumping on top of the houses. This happens after a while, not right away. I don't blame the company that makes these because they are intended for dogs, not goats that love to climb! I do wish the tops would be stronger to prevent this problem from happening. Another area to improve design would be for the top to somehow lock on to the base. When my Great Pyrenees (GP) dog goes inside to lay down, the lid can lift/tilt off. The large size is not big enough for a GP. The price keeps going up, and I'm not pleased with having to pay more. I wait until the neighbor club coupon comes out to buy any needed replacement houses. Over the years I've bought countless Permate Large dog houses, so I know these pretty well! My Lab and Australian Shepherd love these large Petmate houses too.Farmer Johns

Looks very nice and hardy but it floods when it rains, I don't know how but the water gets inside and it is too much water. I put a crate pad inside for my outdoor cat to stay warm and went to check on my cat a few hours later after it rained, and the pad was soaking wet not to mention the house was full of water more water than what was outside . The dog house comes in two parts – top and bottom. They do not snap together; the top merely sits on the bottom. No hardware is provided to attach the two and even if there was there are no holes through which one would thread screws or bolts (or whatever) to keep the dog house together. I use these for my goats because these houses are inexpensive but the goats knowingly and regularly have fun pushing up on the exit/entrance hole to "break" the house into two pieces. Yes, I laugh at their antics but I still plan to drill holes and use nuts/bolts to keep the top and bottom together.L McGaffey

I bought this for my cats. They love it. 4 cats can sleep very comfortably in this. This is my 3rd dog house I have bought for the barn farm cats. PS. They also have the whole barn to their selves but they love being up at the house. Yes all 15 barn farm cats are spoiledShivy

This is a good quality, sturdy plastic dog house. We have a medium sized German Shepherd and he easily fits in the large dog kennel and has room to curl up and sleep. It does a pretty good job keeping the rain out, only a little splattering of water gets in in the front but not too bad. Overall, quite happy with the purchase!angelnadie

This house is so cute I bought it for my 34 lb English Cocker Spaniel named Jackson. Jackson thinks he is a rock star in it! He loves it and all the neighbors thinks it is just as cute as can be. I laid a brick foundation for it and placed it on that. It was worth the money however it was a little difficult putting the hinged roof on so I just screwed the whole roof down tight. I live in hurricane country so the last thing I would have wanted was the wind lifting the one side of the roof up and ripping it off. It was pretty straightforward in assembling the sides and back of the house/ One word of caution, put it together outside. I assembled it inside and had to take the roof off to get it out the door no matter which way I turned it.Paula

I got this recently on a great sale price… it was half the cost of another dog house that I bought (and returned). The one I ended up returning was designed as an actual house, but cost $100 and the plastic was very flimsy… I felt it wasn't worth the price, and my dog never liked it. I looked online and saw this "dog house" (it's really a crate, IMO); and Petco had the least expensive price, at half the retail cost. I was also able to pick it up the same day at a local store, and received a further discount for picking it up at the store. There's only 2 pieces (a top and a bottom), and the top basically just sits on the bottom, with tabs that are supposed to hold it in place. It's not the most secure, but I don't see this being blown across the yard or anything. The plastic is heavy duty and sturdy… I mean sure, if you live in a tornado or hurricane area, then of course, yes, it'll get toss across the neighborhood; but otherwise, it should stay in place. Great for when you need to leave your pet outside for a while. It's very wide, but not very long though. My dog can curl up in here and he can fit, but he can not stretch out or lay out in this… which is fine, because dogs usually like sleeping curled up and they like snug fitting enclosures to sleep in. My standard size labradoodle fits into it. He uses it to sleep in. This is not something he can stand straight up in or something he can stretch out in… but for sleeping, he loves to curl up in it. I bought it for use outside during the winter or a rainy day, to get out of the cold or rain when I have to put him outside in the yard for a while. We put it inside the house first so that he would get use to it. The one I got said it was for dogs 50-90 lbs., which is the large size. He has no problem getting in and out of this, and he likes it a lot better than the Suncast house shaped doghouse I got him (which I ended up returning). This is plastic, but it's made of heavy duty plastic and it's sturdy; there's only a top and bottom part, and basically the top part sits on the bottom part, with tabs that are supposed to hold the two pieces together. I got it on sale, so I got it for a great price.NYCGalOut

Got these doghouses as an outdoor reprieve from the elements for our 2 Huskies. They are very sturdy and made of solid hard plastic. They've managed to remain dry inside even in a couple of downpours and driving rain. The only time that wasn't the case is when I had one on an uneven patch of grass. So you definitely want to place it on a platform if there's no flat surface. Unfortunately our pups, house dogs that LOVE to go out and play, still haven't embraced the concept of having a private pad "outside." Other than that, it's easy to set up and clean. It has plenty of room for our 70 pounder and is absolutely palatial for the 45 pounder. I got the large size for both since they were so affordable – $44 bucks each! Love the color. Bought this for our 7 month old Pyrador puppy, who has already outgrown one house. It was easy to put together, and the sturdist dog house we've ever seen. Plus being insulated is perfect for a cold Indiana winter. She's huge and still growing and loves it. The first night she slept in front of it despite dog treats inside. Second night was cooler, she decided to check it out so the head and front paws went thru the swinging door first, and after she had stood that way for about 5 minutes, walked all the way in, and has loved it ever since. From the size if it unless she grows as much as Clifford the big red dog, she'll get to enjoy for a lifetime.PJ

We got this house for a new Boxador puppy so that it can spend most of its time outside. We found it to be a good product. It was easy to put together and does stay much warmer than the outside air. In rainy weather, it stays dry. It is a very large house which would work for a lab or other large dog. No problems with the dog using the door. Only suggestion: add nuts and bolts for the 6 screws. Screwing metal into plastic is not a real good plan. I'm assuming the company will have replacement parts (door, window, etc…) available for my investment!Y Robinson

I receive the item and the box was in good condition. Upon opening the item there were 8 pieces. 4 walls, the top and 3 pieces that make up the floor. 3 of the 4 walls were split by screws that were inserted on the pre-fabricated panels. I took pieces and sent them to customer service. I believe this was done before being boxed up to ship. Although I was offered a discount for the damaged item I don't believe it would last as the floor did not attach but rested on the ledge of the sides. When my dog stepped into the dog house the first time 1 of the 3 pieces that make up the floor flipped up. It is nice looking but the wood is very cheap. I would not recommend buying.Unhappy Customer

I expected better of this outdoor doghouse, especially for the price. It is made of "fir wood" which isn't a hardwood at all. Pine would have been sturdier. Assembly was easy but the house itself flimsy, with several of the pre-fab section not even nailed or glued together, and some pieces with parts of the wood broken off. Even in the "giant" size it was barely large enough for a 90lb GSD. The feet were plastic and the floor slated wood were the elements can creep through. This house is advertised as ideal for outdoor use – but I wouldn't trust it during a New England winter. It was sent back immediately. I would NOT recommend this manufacturer for outdoor dog houses. For less money you could build a better one out of more durable wood.Razor

I just opened my Small size Precision Pet Extreme Log Cabin doghouse today to assemble. It looks like it will assemble pretty well, although one of the sides is 3/16" out of square. Because the panels are firmly glued and screwed together it will require some adjustment/trimming to assemble correctly instead of attempting to break the glue joints and true it up. Obviously a rush job by the factory in Wuhan. The roof shingles do appear to be very well sealed and bonded together, however there are a few spots on the edges of the composition shingles on the roof where bare wood can be seen at the edges, which would allow water to get into the roof frame, so those spots will have to be sealed. The three piece floor has 1/8" gaps between the slats, so if you want the animal occupying the box to be comfortable when it is cold and windy, you will have to do some modification to the floor, which I plan on doing. The statement that the box is waterproof and weather resistant is a stretch. The stain/preservative used on all of the wood surface is so thin that pouring any water at all on the wood surface disappears as the wood instantly absorbs it. I will not put the box in service until at least 2 coats of a high quality exterior grade paint/stain is applied. If you try and use this box without putting a proper preservative coat on it, you might get one year of use out of it before it rots or suffers UV damage and cracks and splits. This doghouse is being re-purposed by me to be a Barn Owl nest box; the dimensions are almost perfect and as soon as I saw it I realized that it could be used for quick installation during the brief annual window between December to January during which Barn Owls are NOT in their box. All I really have to do is put an insert into the door to reduce the opening size, add a perch/balcony outside the opening, fix the floor, and of course, properly seal the wood so that it will last more than one season. My primary reason for paying the extra money for the "EXTREME" model was the feature description that said: Its stainless steel hardware also adds to its sturdiness. THIS IS A LIE! THE HARDWARE SUPPLIED IS NOT STAINLESS STEEL, so this is my major gripe. My guess is that China figures that most Americans can't tell the difference between stainless and non-stainless steel. I'm a retired engineer, and you can almost always identify stainless/non-stainless steel by its color and appearance, although the surefire test is with a magnet. Regular steel will be strongly attracted by a magnet, if it is stainless steel, you might get a very slight attraction. This stuff is definitely normal steel with maybe a thin coat of zinc – not stainless steel. I have used these type of doghouses for years to house my indoor cats' litter pans. Not only do they help to contain the litter that always seems to make it out of the pan, they also act as an odor barrier and preserve my flooring from "over reaches". The roof comes off easily for easy access to the interior, but is solid enough not to be displaced should one of the cats jump on top, Highly recommend!anonymous

This "medium" doghouse was smaller than described in the online details. The length was 2 inches shorter. The width and depth were each 1 inch shorter. I had most of the doghouse assembled before I decided to measure it. I had to take it apart, package it up and return it to my local store. Fortunately, the return process was easy. I just bought and The wood is warped. Not all the holes are drilled for the screws. The floor does not sit level. It is not worth the money! I had to glue the top on because the screws were not correct and all the wood broke! By better quality!Donotbuy

This dog house was purchased for an inside/outside dog. Since we have an invisible fence, he needed some shelter during the raw days of fall and winter. This house fits the bill. It is attractive enough to stay on our screened in porch, and sturdy enough to hold a black lab with room to spare. I probably would be a little reluctant if this house was for an outside only dog due to the soft cedar wood construction. The features are great with the hinged lid, and the hot dog liner fits perfectly. If ypou have a pet who likes the outdoors by day and house by night, then this is the one for you!CTDogOwner

These dog houses are absolutely terrible!! I 5 (4 at the time of purchase) sled dogs and was hoping these would be a nice idea for houses for them.. they didn’t even last a month! Use it for my medium sized beagel. Only had for about a week but I was impressed with the easy of installation. Took me alone about 40 minutes to set up. Gave extra screw for misplace or damaged ones. I appreciate the porch so I can put his food and water there without getting all wet. I like the half-roof lift as well for easy clean out. So far it has handled a good down poor without any water leaks. It has real roof sealed roof shingles. It also sits about 1-1.5 inches off the ground… don't worry to much about bugs. The dimensions in the inside is a bit smaller than I anticipated, but my dog like small dens. Don't know how it will hold up for months/years to come, but Im initially impressed.Andre

I purchased the medium size house for my feral cats outside to provide shelter from the elements. I received the house in a few days but had to wait for the weather here to cooperate so it could be put together. It assembled quite quickly. The instructions were pretty straight forward & used the picture as a guide. All pieces were intact and all screws and bolts were included. My one issue is the packaging. This manufacturer needs to use a thicker Styrofoam to not only protect the product from damage, but so that when the consumer takes the product out of the box, Styrofoam doesn't fly all over. What a mess! That being said, I plan on getting another one. As soon as it was all set up, the cats immediately inspected it and made themselves at home😊 I didn't give it 5 stars because the packaging needs to be addressed, but the product is one that I would recommend.Catatude

I actually purchased this house for a feral cat that I look after. I added insulation, a heater, and some straw and he's very comfortable and content. I also added a camera, to see what goes on in there, but that's solely for my entertainment. The house is well made and sturdy and looks great on my deck. I'm so happy with it I've ordered another for another cat. And, at around $100, the price is excellent. I'm giving it only 4 stars simply because it needed to be insulated, it just isn't warm enough without it.. With insulation it's a 5 star house, and insulating it was cheap and very easy to do. These are nice dog houses. They are light weight & don't look like they are very warm, but they actually do a good job, my border collies like these a lot. The extra neck or tunnel entrance is nice to give them some extra protection and privacy. They stand up pretty well to puppies chewing on them to. I recommend this dog house.Iowafarmgal

I mistakenly bought the Large doghouse for dogs up to 90 lbs. But my 5 month old coonhound was too large for it. I returned it and ordered the X-large doghouse and it is the right size. Unfortunately, the doghouse was broken in two places, probably due to the way you ship. These doghouses are delivered without any protection and will crack or break when sliding into anything. I will have to repair it to hold it together since I don't trust you are able to send another one without the same issues.Daniel

I’m using this as s duck house for six ducks. Not hard to put together, you’ll need Phillips and pliers or wrench, instructions are not the best. Made of less dense version of pine. Roof is hinged and floor comes out in the parts for clean up. I like it.Redeyenc

The dog house (which is being used for a feral cat), arrived quickly and was pretty easy to assemble. It is sturdy enough for our uses, which included putting a smaller insulated cat container in one side of the house and food/water dishes near the entrance. Having the roof lift makes adjustments and cleaning easy. I'm not sure how well this would work for a larger, energetic dog, but it does for us.NDCat
