I'm very impressed with the durability of this blanket! It held up well in its first wash and so far has experienced fur, mud and play time with two rambunctious pups and has held up beautifully! We were looking for a nice blanket for our bed for all seasons and this really does the job. My only two concerns with it are that 1) the two sides are attached only along the edges, there is no lining throughout the center so it doesn't always hold its shape well, and 2) the micro fleece really holds on to fur so it requires vacuuming about every other day, simply rolling it isn't enough to pull the fur away from the fleece. To be fair, most protective dog blankets out there are made of this material so I can't think of a good alternative. I bought two of these beds when the new puppy came along last summer. When I washed them the first time one changed colour. Orvis sent me another with was great service. However, our dogs are GSPs and as such have very short dog hairs which get stuck in the fleece and no amount of hoovering, washing, brushing can bring them out. Makes the beds look scruffy so now I’m going to have to spend even more money – on what were pretty expensive beds to begin with – buying replacement covers that don’t have the fleece. Disappointed and out of pocket.
I have a 25 lb beagle who likes to dig to create her nightly nest. She is not an overly exuberant digger, but somehow this morning I woke up to pieces of this bed's fleece all over the floor. She's only had it one night. The "Fleecelock" guarantee says the fleece will stand up to diggers. Apparently not. It's even more disappointing since this is an expensive bed and her previous bed is the same type and was purchased in 2017/2018. That bed's fleece still stands up to her digging without producing any detectable fleece fluff balls all over the floor. I noticed that the fleece material is very different between the two beds. Maybe Orvis can find a way to use the previous material. This new one doesn't cut it. I appreciate Orvis standing by its quality guarantee and refunding the purchase price of the bed.twobeaglebagels

I was excited about this bed for a long time and finally got one for my older beagle who loves having a bolster but could use more cushioned support than her old bed. However, the cushion is flatter than any other Orvis dog bed we have and the bolster is so tall she can only use it if she's sitting upright. I've added extra batting and pillows, and tried layering with other dog beds underneath the main cushion, but she ends up slipping around since it is all removable. Additionally, since the cushion is removable and doesn't fill the whole dog bed, she falls into the crack between the cushion and the bolster and so she is partially sleeping on the floor. This thing has been a very expensive disaster and she won't sleep in it at night. I'm still convinced there's a way to salvage it so that she can use it, but I'm not sure how other than a thick memory foam base and to somehow attach to the cushion to the bolster. The materials are (of course) wonderful quality, but the design is poor.sch487
I’ve been a loyal Orvis customer from the days of my first fly rod to waders, clothing, dog supplies, and many other items through personal purchases and as gifts from family and friends. The company never let me down in quality and craftsmanship…. until I bought this bed. I have a 3 year old German Shorthaired Pointer who needed a quality bed after his days in the field. The bed I received isn’t it. The sides hold up fine, but the removable cushion and bottom of the bed are so thin that I can hear my 65 lb dog land on the floor beneath the bed as he tries to get comfortable. If i kneel on the bed, my knee hits the floor as well. The bolsters are ok, but those don’t matter much since there is very little padding for the dog to actually lay on. And what padding there is doesn’t stay put in the main cushion as it moves to the side when my dog lays on the bed. There's nothing worse than seeing a home being taken over by kid toys or animal accessories. After doing a ridiculous amount of research on price comps and reviews and coupling this with my need for design cohesiveness, this was the best choice for us! The quality and design is spot on! The material is super soft, cozy, but structured unlike most that look great online but flimsy and cheap when you get it out of the box. My son even tries to lie in it but I have to shew him away lol. I have an Italian Greyhound & this breed loves to burrow and cuddle up so this bed was the perfect choice for him. I got the medium size in case we ever got a second IG but for now ours just sprawls out and burrows under his blanket and sleeps. I love the ease of unzipping the fabric to clean this when I need to. We bought this bed as a replacement for one purchased on Amazon that fell apart in the wash. We decided to spring for a quality one even though it was pricey. When it arrived, one of our dogs curled up in it immediately. It then became a daily event for them to hurry into it in when the other dog left it. They jockeyed for it all day and would look at the dog in the bed with a puzzled look as if to say, "this is my bed, get out"! We had to get another one to keep the peace. It is very sturdy with a hefty amount of padding. Our dogs absolutely love them. It was worth the price to get well constructed beds with a legitimate warranty. I purchased two of these raised beds (large size) for my two large 8 year old Labradors (55 & 60 pounds) about 18 months ago. I am impressed on the durability of the mesh and very happy with the strong, yet light weight frames. These beds keep my dogs clean, and are easy to keep clean and fresh with a spray of my garden hose. I can easily move them inside when night time temp drop. They support my older large dogs, (cradle them) keep them comfortable, and off the ground. One of my dogs likes to scratch the surface before she lies in her bed, and has shredded many CostCo and Sam's Club plush beds at $40-$60 within a couple months. After 18 months of daily use, she finally tore a few small holes in the mesh cover…I was very pleased that the replacement mesh covers were only $11 each. I cannot tell you how much I like this bed! The value for the price is tremendous! Friends have purchased similar but much higher priced dog beds that have not held up nearly as well. After 5+ years of use and abuse by 100+ lb. dogs, 80+ lb. kids, and a few cats (one of which loved to sharpen his claws on the cover) I have finally had to replace the cover. The new cover went on easily and looks great. I would recommend this dog bed to anyone with the caveat that it may rust and the screws will 'freeze up' if left out in the weather. Mine has spent most of its life outside, but under a deep eave. It gets wet, but not soaked. It gets direct sun, but only in the very late afternoon. Two of the 4 screws would not budge when I changed the cover – luckily, only one on each end – but I suspect a little WD-40 would have solved that problem. Knockoffs have wrong sizes, they don't last a year in the AZ sun, poorly made, cheap materials. That is what you get when you DO NOT buy OEM! The Coolaroo OEM cover costs maybe $3-$5 more than a knockoff, but lasts 2-3 years, compared to 6 months, so do the math, how many do you buy in 3 years? SIX? or ONE? Coolaroo covers are heavy duty, well stitched, still hard to install, but that is a condition of the design. When I finished installing two new covers, the dogs circled me during the assembly, waiting to see which one could get the first one! We just purchased a new sofa bed for our Black Lab mix. He LOVES his new bed . It is cozy and I love the way he puts his head on the pillows. However, my dog likes to dig around before curing up in a cozy position. We only had the bed for two days and he had already put two holes in the cover. I was so disappointed. The bed now looks awful and the fuzz is coming out of the cover. I really think that it should be mentioned that if your dog likes to dig before snuggling then perhaps a stronger fabric is needed.
This is, I think our third or fourth time purchasing these beds for our dogs. In the past, over time the covers get worn. We purchase these because the covers can be removed and washed. What we have found is that after so many washes, the material begins to thin. Well, these were just recently purchased, and I haven't even had to wash them yet, and the material is ripping.Sharon H.
