I live in Florida and flying insects are a constant problem year round. I used this product and was totally impressed! Very few insect killers can be used both outside and indoors! Some of the sprays that I have used in the past, smell very toxic. Not this product! It works well without people coughing and complaining of the chemical smell! I really like this essential oil formula, the smell is nice, way better than the chemical smell of other bug sprays. I like the flying insect killer formula being able to use it indoors and outdoors is a great thing to have in my home. I deal with a lot of flies that come in from my back yard because of animals. Once you spray the flies i do notice they do not fly again, The only issue i have is when you spray flies, it takes a long time for them to die, they continue to keep walking around for a long time after spraying. For some reason, hornets love my patio. Every Spring we wage war against each other. They build their honey-combed nests and terrorize anyone who comes onto the patio and I wind up knocking down the nest and running for my life. Well, they started early this year and were showing new gumption by flying into the house whenever the patio door is open. So I waited until the comb looked heavily populated and let them have it with burst of Home Defense. They scrambled and some flew off but others met their maker. We used to pay for a monthly spray but found out it is so much more toxic and expensive. I have grandchildren and this product is safe when dry and does the job splendidly. I put it on the perimeter of my house indoor and outdoor. I only have to use it indoor about once a year but do it about every three months outside. I put it around the doors and window outdoor. Only downside to sprays is you have to sweep up the dead bugs. We have many bugs in OK and it seems to do the trick on most of them so far. Do not use this version. The battery operated sprayer does not work and they have added soooo many steps in between you can't figure out where the problem is. So to assemble, remove from side of bottle, stretch out the line and flip it into position. Press into the opening until it clicks, switch it over to on. Remove the battery tab (the cut off so the batteries don't go bad), flip out the handle, and flip the nozzle to the correct version (narrow v. broad spray–indoor/outdoor). Then press and hold the switch. Keep waiting and waiting then start trouble shooting a literal F—ing poison. From what I can tell, whatever pump they use lacks the ability to do what it was designed for, making the cool handle, trigger, sprayer, etc. useless. I have 1.33 Gals that, because of this COLOSSAL FAILURE, I need to put in a spray bottle so I can spray the outside while everyone else is asleep and it will dry before everyone gets up.Jack457

Was it a pain after awhile? Yes. But it always worked. Then someone thought they had a better idea, and made a motorized wand. Now, I understand that for the price they couldn't spend a lot of money on making the wand, but on the other hand, it's worthless if it worked. Every one I've had since they went to this new wand has failed. The motor whirs like it wants to work. I check the batteries and make sure they're fully charged. Still nothing. Maybe a few dribs come spurting out. I would give this product a 5 star rating if it would actually deliver the spray.vtgaryw

My husband sprays this all on the inside perimeters of our house, like the window sills, bottom of doors, spots where we’ve seen bugs, etc and then we use the Ortho Home Defense Inside/Outside for the outdoor perimeters and it works GREAT. We have a really bad spider and ant problem at our house and you can really tell when it’s working. The outdoor one lasts for about 6 months and then you’ll notice the creepy crawlies starting to pop up again but then you just spray again. YIKES!! i started seeing some bugs in my kitchen at night when i turned on the light so i wanted something effective and fast acting as well as easy to use and i found it in the Ortho Home Defense Max Indoor Insect Barrier with Extended Reach Comfort Wand. I sprayed the perimeter of every room upstairs and downstairs and i haven't seen a bug since! This is the easiest and most convenient sprayer ive ever used. Its very well designed. The wand folds out easily to reach hard to get to places and lets me spray without having to bend. when im through with it i just fold it up and clip it into its own special holder that keeps it all together and compact and ready for the next use. I had a problem with ants and spiders and this product did a great job solving that problem. However, it created another…when I sprayed around my windows (outside), it dripped and left them streaky. I have tried to clean with vinegar, Windex, hot soapy water, and Magic Eraser but they will not come clean. So–don't spray this product ABOVE your windows, only on the sill. I buy the sales where you get the refills free. I honestly & truthfully think I could drink a gallon of this product & feel no effects from it. It has almost no odor. It can be sprayed directly on bugs of ANY KIND with no effects shown. I can honestly say that the only dead bug of any kind seen after many many applications from year to year has been dead June bugs. NO spiders, ants, centipedes, ticks, worms, mosquitoes, moths, fleas, roaches, crickets, lady bugs, etc. etc. I've never seen this product kill any insect OR seen dead insects around after its use other than June bugs. I saw this on the website when I ordered the spray. I am impressed so far. I sprinkled it in the yard and in a yard wide perimeter of my house before I left for vacation. Two weeks later, it seems to be working well. I have drunk looking or dead bugs everywhere when we got home.cwayman

I was very anxious to t rry this product as I have had quite a problem with ants in my house and also lady bugs in the garage. For the ants I usually use those little tins that you put by the baseboards and area that you see them. They crawl in, take the poison back to the others and it takes care of the whole lot of them. I tried these for almost a month straight. Usually they work great, not this time. I immediately put the Ortho Home Defense Insect Killer for lawns granules in my spreader and put them on my lawn. Much to my delight the ants were gone within a few days and haven't returned. Also the lady bugs have disappeared too. It has only been roughly a month since I applied this but I have already seen a noticeable difference in the basically elimination of insects in my garage or home. My house is on the edge of the country with corn fields and a creek nearby. Every year in the spring, ants come out around my house. They are very annoying.They build ant mounds and I am constantly spraying, area's where they show up, until weeks later, they are finally eliminated. I tried Home Defense this year. One squirt doesn’t work. I actually think they’re calling on their friends to come over and watch a crazy lady with a can. Buy 2 good, old fashioned fly shatters, enlist your child or children and pay them for each smushed fly. Have them bring you the remains so you don’t have dead fly carcasses all over your house. Ortho Home Defence Concentrate, instructions are clear to mix and apply. Living around around a lake I see a lot of insects, especially after the grass around the lake is mowed. After spraying my grass and a few plants that the leaves were being eaten by insects. After a few days there weren't any insects. I bought this specifically to kill the Spotted Lanterfly in my maple tree because Ortho’s website claimed it killed them on contact when used per the package directions. Unfortunately, even when used exactly as directed it did nothing. They paused as they were covered in spray and then just kept on going. No change, no death, nothing. This is my first time using Ortho Home Defense Insect Killer for Indoor & Perimeter Concentrate. When the directions are followed, the product is easy and safe to use. It is early Spring here in Texas. We just had a week of cold weather. We then had a week of sunny weather in the lower 70’s. I felt this was the best time to start spraying the perimeter of my home. My family and I like to enjoy our patio area so I made sure to pay extra attention spraying the patio area. I noticed that the Ortho Home Defense Insect Killer for Indoor & Perimeter Concentrate did not smell and it dried very quickly. The concentrate comes in a 32 fl oz bottle. The bottle advertised that the concentrate would make up to 4 gallons. I followed the directions by mixing the correct amount of water with the correct amount of concentrate. Large can instructions are written so a person can read them clearly. Be carful and protect food and I protect my pets from any spray, i put them outside while spraying, after spraying they come back in I just dont want them breathing any kind of chemical. Remove the battery tab (the cut off so the batteries don't go bad), flip out the handle, and flip the nozzle to the correct version (narrow v. broad spray–indoor/outdoor). Then press and hold the switch. Keep waiting and waiting then start trouble shooting a literal F—ing poison. From what I can tell, whatever pump they use lacks the ability to do what it was designed for, making the cool handle, trigger, sprayer, etc. useless. I have 1.33 Gals that, because of this COLOSSAL FAILURE, I need to put in a spray bottle so I can spray the outside while everyone else is asleep and it will dry before everyone gets up.Jack457

I have yet to finish a jug of this. I've been using this product for years, and it works well to keep ants and spiders out. Years ago, the wand was a hand sprayer, you pumped the handle. Was it a pain after awhile? Yes. But it always worked. Then someone thought they had a better idea, and made a motorized wand. Now, I understand that for the price they couldn't spend a lot of money on making the wand, but on the other hand, it's worthless if it worked. Every one I've had since they went to this new wand has failed. The motor whirs like it wants to work. I check the batteries and make sure they're fully charged. Still nothing. Maybe a few dribs come spurting out. I would give this product a 5 star rating if it would actually deliver the spray.vtgaryw

Well, it finally warmed up enough in Wisconsin to do this review! This product worked very well-once I got it attached to the hose. I have a virtually new hose so the threads are in pristine shape, however, I had some difficulty in attaching the spray unit. The angle was bad but I kept at it success was mine. I sprayed both a brick patio with numerous ant hills and well as ant hills in my lawn. Finally, I sprayed around the doors and concrete areas. In every case everything was dead within 24 hours. In using the Ortho Home Defense liquid insect killer, it was very easy to use. The directions are easy to follow. I really liked the On Off Water lever….it came in very handy when I wanted to activate the spray and very handy to just spray water and also turn off. The product was very effective in killing bugs around the perimeter of my home. I will certainly use this again for my next treatment.Mike17

This is a great outdoor bug deterant. I used it on the back of my house and all through the back yard and I noticed a big difference. There were no more bugs! But I need to spray the front yard also because I see a few bugs coming from the front porch. This stuff acts like a barrier, but I spray it all over the yard anyway. There are bugs that come in my townhouse from the outside, through the windows and doors, and under the floors. This product is excellent for keeping them out. I also spray the curtains and they do not stain (expensive curtains). After mopping the floors, I spray the ends and the corners again because the spray is mopped up. I also spray the sides, tops, and bottoms of the doors. Repeated sprayings does stain my tile floor, but stain is removed after mopping. . I recommend this product for keeping outside bugs OUT.TIIE

I got this for what we call palmetto bugs/flying cockroaches. I expected this to work for a little while atleast. I did the outside and inside of my home. I keep a clean home and believe these are coming from the woods behind my home plus they are very common in SC….it's been 5 days and I think all it did was stir them up because I've actually seen more than usual. I'm hitting Lowes tomorrow to see what they have.JennyOOO

I keep my garage absolutely spotless and was stunned to find a MASSIVE infestation of cockroaches along an exterior wall that was next to the fruit trees in our rental home. There are 2 large air vents near the floor where they were entering EN MASSE just to be in the dark garage. For what I still don't know. It was disgusting. I figured it was worth a shot to stop them myself, so I bought this Ortho pump sprayer and a 6 pack of bombs, ready to go to all out war. I hurriedly tried to pump the canister and start spraying, but the spray was a ridiculous tiny amount of mist that comes out. Says it will spray for up to 10 minutes. Thats because almost nothing comes out. TIP;THIS PRODUCT IS A TOTAL DRIPPING MESS TO SPRAY UNLESS YOU TAKE OFF THE END HALF OF THE WAND! THEN YOU WILL GET SOMEWHERE. THE LIQUID WILL GUSH OUT NOW! I totally soaked the inside perimeter of my garage, which is basically empty anyhow, and soaked the baseboards where i saw all the activity, and then the outside of the wall facing the fruit trees. At first I was disappointed because when I sprayed the roaches directly, soaking them, they continued to move on, just a bit slower, then I killed them. I sealed off the air vents leading to the outside with expando-foam, and sealed them shut. The next morning, I opened up the garage. No less than 60 roaches all dead on the floor. They were dead on the baseboards, dead outside all over the sidewalk next to the garage, and even dead 30 feet away from areas where I had sprayed. There were so many dead roaches, I had to sweep them up in a pile and dispose of them. Not 1 alive. The spray leaves a slight neutral odor in the air, but not bad at all. I had planned on bombing the garage also, but then later returned the bombs when I learned that not only will they cause your garage to explode if your pilot light comes on in the water heater, due to the severe flammability, but also I didn't need them. The spray totally knocked everything dead. Amazing. And I only used about 1/4 of the bottle. IF YOU HAVE ROACHES, BUY THIS STUFF AND GO HEAVY WITH IT.pulsev22

Wand does not work. Lost receipt so I can't return it. Have used Ortho with "pull and spray" nozzle and it works fine. It worked fine the first time but not now. The holes for the spray are clear but the product does not come out as a spray.Mick
