There is no safer collar than Premier's Martingale to use on new dogs in our rescue or for dogs going on a transport. I will not ship a dog on any transport without this collar. Traveling is stressful, even going to the vet is stressful for a country dog who finds itself in traffic after a ride in a strange vehicle. Regular collars often slip off the necks and heads of a frantic dog. This collar will not! When I get in new strays who don't have a clue what a collar is I can't risk them getting loose. Again, I depend on this collar for control and for the dog's safety. When I taught dog obedience in the Public sector, the Martingale and the Gentle Leader were the collars I sold to my students and they quickly had their dogs in control and training was swift while the dogs' neck's were protected. I have used the Premier Martingale since 2000. It is my basic collar of choice. Regular collars: I don't feel safe using them.
The functional design of this collar is beyond superior. However, it also has a feature (or lack thereof depending on how you look at it) that is extremely important to me that most people likely don't think about…..the amount of metal that comes in contact with my dog. You see, I live in AZ where the heat is extreme four months a year, even in the shade. When you can't wear sandals or sunglasses with any metal design features, hanging earrings that may brush your neck, and are always conscience of how close your bare leg is to those keys hanging from the ignition…….one thinks twice about what one puts around the beloved pet's neck (and paws). We have used this collar on our dog since we got her over 1 year ago. Today, while she was playing with another dog, the other dog got her jaw stuck in it. I had heard of the Martingale style collar for dogs that pull, but this collar seemed to still put pressure on my dogs tracia, instead of other parts of the dogs head, so not quite what I was expecting. I did like the fact that the harder the dog pulls the tighter the collar gets and as soon as the dog stops pulling the collar quickly loosens up. It also worked very well for my dog, who is a beagle and likes to stop and smell every little thing. When I am pulling him, the collars does not slip up and over his head, which is something even the harness I have does not always do. All in all a good collar, but the fact it does not totally prevent pressure on the Tracia, keeps this from being a 5 star.LarBear

Hi It is rare that I take the time to comment, positively or negatively on any product but felt I had to in this case. Some background, we had 4 dogs and live in a basic suburban housing area with most homes being on 1/3-1/2 acre lots. In February we rescued a 1 year old great pyrenes. We are her 5th home. If you know anything about this breed you know they bark…A LOT!!!! I try to be a good neighbor and when Maya starts to bark I would try to get her to come in. This was not always the easiest thing to do and required chasing here. There were many times when she was in the house she would just start barking and continue to do so for over an hour. We would put her in the back room and turn on Cartoon Network for her and eventually she would bark herself to sleep. About 2 weeks ago I got a call from one of my neighbors. Our yards meet corner to corner. He told me that he recently retired and likes to relax by his pool but with the dog barking he is having a hard time relaxing. He was planning to contact the city to see what his rights were. Maya is a sweet girl and didn’t want to be forced to giving her up so I did some research on line. That’s when I came across the barkwise complete. I didn’t want a shock collar as I feel that is torture so this fit the bill and I ordered one. The collar arrived on a Friday and I charged it overnight. I put it on Maya Saturday morning. When I put her out (with the other “kids”) she ran to the fence and barked once, stopped in her tacks and doubled back towards our pool. She has been using the collar now for just over a week and the change in her is nothing short of amazing! Once in a while when outside she might give one or two barks but that is it. I spoke with my neighbor and told him what I did and he was impressed as well. Once I have the extra money I may order two more of them as my Lab will bark and my big mix (Lab, American Bulldog, Boxer, huskie) barks once in a while. Also, it is much easier to get her to come in now. I have yet to try the remote control but may use that for socialization training. I will let you know how that goes. I was super hesitant to order these collars for my two dogs. I thought, if these work so great why have I never heard of them? But I just moved from a country setting into town and my dogs have been barking their heads off at all the stimuli and I don’t want to make enemies of my new neighbors and I have a 5 month old they keep waking up. So in a moment of frustration I ordered them and crossed my fingers. I put the collars on the dogs last night and for my smart dog it only took one bark to stop barking and my dumb dog it took maybe 5 barks. Now they have stopped barking at: people knocking on the door, people passing by, cats and squirrels in the yard and they have even stopped barking to be let in. My mind is blown. I’m so happy I didn’t have to get shock collars to stop them barking. I do want to say that it does drain them a bit to wear them so I think it’s humane to try to limit the amount of time they wear them. So I’m only putting them on when I need to. I just feel bad for dogs if they have to wear them all the time. I’ll always have the dogs wear them when we have company coming over because they used to bark at people when they came in and I’ll make sure they are wearing them in the yard and when my son is napping. Both of my dogs are around 30 lbs and the collar fits them on the tightest setting. I don’t think this collar would fit small dogs and I didn’t see a different size when I was ordering them.Melissa M.
Collar works well. You need to pair it with reinforcement training. Has really helped our dogs who became extra sensitive to people coming to the house during the pandemic. NOTE: the collar has a major flaw which is that the rubber piece to keep water off the controls is not properly toleranced/designed. This is a huge risk as it comes loose often and the sensitivity goes really high causing false alarms and mental damage to dogs. To solve this, I taped it shut with electrical tape and cut a hole for the charger. Unfortunately this hurts water resistance. This seal needs to be redesigned. I’ll be livid if my collars die due to water intrusion but that’s a better risk than traumatizing my dogs. If they fix this issue, I’d easily give the product 5 stars. We've used this collar for a few weeks and have definitely seen improvement. When our 130 lb Asian Shepherd tries to lunge at a passing car we simply put tension on the leash and she stops. We are a little concerned with how sturdy and reliable it is. The true test will be when we come across either another dog or a deer. Fingers crossed!ked7526
We have tried every type of no-pill harness out there, and had given up. When I went to my locally owned pet shop to buy a new collar for my girl, I saw this harness and decided to give it a go. What a difference. She didn’t like it at first, but it only took a couple of days for her to stop pawing at it. Fitting the harness was so easy as is putting on for a walk. It’s very lightweight, and with the additional padding on the nose loop combined with the heat-cut ends of the straps being sewn so that they do not touch her fur means no chafing and no sore spots. I can’t remember exactly what year we would have gotten our first gentle leader, but I’ll always remember the doggo we got it for and what a life changer it was!! He was 120 pounds of pure muscle and we.had.tried.everything. Group training, private training, and all the types of collars I would never use today even if I didn’t have this amazing option (choke, pinch, shock…). Our vet had even recommended having a horse halter made for him. And then a friend suggested a gentle leader. Overnight, we went from dreading the walk and only taking them when the strongest in the family was available, to myself, the kids and even my parents being able to EASILY, with one hand and no strength required, walk this dog who literally dragged me across a soccer field once when I slid on wet grass but didn’t want to let go of his leash. It was probably right around twenty years ago, and sadly Bear has long ago been to the rainbow bridge. But we’ve had a few other large, strong pullers since and thankfully we knew from the beginning how to make walks fun and bearable for everyone. I only wish it hadn’t taken SO long for there to be some collars with a little design and color other than the same solid colors for so many years. And I can’t lie, I sure wish there were more choices than there are. But thankfully the gentle leader is still available. I’ve worried at times when it’s been hard to find at stores in our area – but no matter how many other harnesses I’ve tried (and there have been quite a few – mostly looking to try to raise the fashion game a little or avoid the initial struggle to get it off), nothing has worked like the gentle leader and I always just get another one. This is the second collar I've tried . The first one lasted 2 days and worked great , then it wouldn't hold a charge ! So they sent me a knew one ,I plugged it in and followed the directions .
