I recently purchased this collar for my 84 lb. Golden Retriever. It is a beautiful collar. Loved the color and heavy duty leather and hardware. I ordered an 18 inch as they said the size was to the middle hole of five holes and I needed nineteen inches so that would put me in the fourth hole with one to spare. The collar measurements was a little more than a half inch off causing us to have to use the last hole, which was doable. But they said the collar was a inch wide and it was actually one and a quarter inches wide. This was a huge problem as I use slide on tags for my dogs and there was no way the tags would fit so I had to return the collar. Its a beautiful collar, but I like the slide on tags for safety and they don't make noise. So far it has withstood 2 years of hunting and daily wear. I like it being padded for his comfort, but also rugged for my piece of mind. Every other collar we tried either were out or the cheap metal buckles would break when attached to his leash when he felt frisky and the kids had to hold him back. The only drawback is it definitely stiffens up over time from wear and makes it difficult to unclip buckle. But it's not coming off of the dog.Speckdaddy
If you have a hunting dog, they will be getting wet frequently. This collar does not withstand frequent wet/dry cycles. Within a week, the manufacturer's label tore off. Immediately after purchasing this and putting it on our dog, the seams holding the leather of the collar together began to come unthreaded. Before long, it got worse and worse as can be seen in the photo. I'm requesting a full refund and replacement. I will be calling to follow up on this. We typically order L.L. The double braid collar is flexible, not stiff like many other collars. The buckle is quite sturdy and good looking. The collar buckles easily without grommets, and is secure. The inside edges of the collar where it is "melted" together are constructed well without any sharp edges as I have found on other brands. The black, white, grey pattern looks great on our white Great Pyrenees. I buy these double braid collars for my puppies because they're infinitely adjustable. The prong from the buckle goes into the braid at any point for fine adjustments for rapidly growing puppies is possible. I also like them because they're priced right, enabling me to buy several so when one gets dirty I can just pop a new one on while I wash the other one and I can switch colors when I feel like it. We love ruffwear! Have been using their products for 5 years already, love the designs and materials they use but mann what’s going on with the stitching ?? It sucks when the stitching starts coming loose within days/weeks of use, i got two dogs and it feels like you got a 50-50 chance that you will get a product with defective stitching, Got two collars, the “ruffwear” tag started coming loose within a few weeks of use on one of those. Got two leashes, the buckle to use around the waist broke in two days!! I have 2 beagles a little over a year old and these are the second Ruffwear collars they’ve had. I bought new ones because they grew out of their old ones and, honestly, I wanted a new look on them. For the number of tags I need to have on my dog, separate attachment points for tags and leash are a must. Everything on one ring would be a difficult mess. My Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy is growing quickly, and making small size adjustments a couple times each week is no problem. Once set, it stays set no matter how hard he pulls, no matter if the collar is dry or wet. The webbing hardly absorbs odors, and a quick wash and air dry gets rid of what little there was. My only regret is that my rough-and-tumble beast of a puppy will outgrow his medium collar in another month. There is no safer collar than Premier's Martingale to use on new dogs in our rescue or for dogs going on a transport. I will not ship a dog on any transport without this collar. Traveling is stressful, even going to the vet is stressful for a country dog who finds itself in traffic after a ride in a strange vehicle. Regular collars often slip off the necks and heads of a frantic dog. This collar will not! When I get in new strays who don't have a clue what a collar is I can't risk them getting loose. Again, I depend on this collar for control and for the dog's safety. When I taught dog obedience in the Public sector, the Martingale and the Gentle Leader were the collars I sold to my students and they quickly had their dogs in control and training was swift while the dogs' neck's were protected. I have used the Premier Martingale since 2000. It is my basic collar of choice. Regular collars: I don't feel safe using them.
The functional design of this collar is beyond superior. However, it also has a feature (or lack thereof depending on how you look at it) that is extremely important to me that most people likely don't think about…..the amount of metal that comes in contact with my dog. You see, I live in AZ where the heat is extreme four months a year, even in the shade. When you can't wear sandals or sunglasses with any metal design features, hanging earrings that may brush your neck, and are always conscience of how close your bare leg is to those keys hanging from the ignition…….one thinks twice about what one puts around the beloved pet's neck (and paws). I bought Spirit Bear for my beloved Apache ❤️ he wore it 14 & 1/2 yrs. It washes great and is my favorite of all the patterns Lupin has made. Apaches leash is now chewed by a puppy ????. I wish Lupine would be like scentsy a place that carries wax melts if you find a smell you like you put it in your box and they will make it for you forever or take it off your list, in other words I wish they let me keep Spitit bear on my list and they'd make it when I wanted it. I have been using Lupine collars for almost 5 years now. I have a 7 lb mini-jack and a 35 lb Aussie mix. My Aussie Ginger is pretty high energy and like to pull when on a leash. For a Christmas picture at Pet Smart, I bought my dogs these cute (Pet Smart) matching Christmas collars. Gingers broke when we were in pet smart, the first time we used it. Needless to say she was hard to catch, and almost got hit by a car when someone had opened a door. I will never use any collar but her lupine collars again!!!! We also have matching leashes and a harness. This company has the best warranty I have ever seen. Ginger chewed through her first harness bc it had been put on too loose and not removed (by a teenager) after her walk. She wanted it off so she chewed it off. Love the quality of these collars and leashes. We have had to have some replaced to razor sharp puppy teeth with no Hassel at all!! My only complaint is that I wish the designs were available in all sizes. Our Airedale pup is named Bindi which means little girl butterfly in Aboriginal language so we had the wing it collar and leash. Now that she is getting bigger and outgrowing them I wish they had the same pattern "wing it" in the larger sizes as well! HUGE fan of these collars

this collar works although I may need to find a bigger one in the near future since I didn't believe my labs neck couldn't get much bigger, but it is. The only real problem and the reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 4 or 5 is the company misspelled my dogs name. His name is Gunnar. I checked that I spelled it correctly several times so it wouldn't be Gunner. Well, I got Gunner. Not worth sending back, but if people can't follow these simple instructions, I may go somewhere else for the next one.

It is a very well made collar. I would have liked it to have a larger loop that creates the constriction. If it were larger the collar could be adjusted smaller to get the "choke" effect when the dog pulls. Because the loop is small, the collar has to be left loose to fit over the head. I won't buy anything else but these Country Brooks Martingale Collar with Double Handle Leash. They are extremely reliable and at an affordable price. Made with heavy duty nylon the anti slip collar is impossible for my dogs to escape from making it great for training and everyday use. A 6 ft leash is perfect for nature walks however when we are in public the "traffic handle" is just the right length to ensure safe walking in a crowd or near traffic.
