I fed this to my older dog (now almost 11) for 4 years before he developed a sensitivity to poultry. I have another dog, Mia, now whom I fed the puppy version of this food until she was a year old and she loved it, so naturally we moved up to this food once she hit a year old. With all the worry about grain free foods potentially causing heart issues, we’d tried to switch Mia to a grain-inclusive food but she had diarrhea and vomiting when we tried gradually switching her food that progressively got worse. So we switched back to this food and we won’t try to switch off of it again knowing she cannot process grains! The ingredients are high quality for grain-free and there are no by-products. Mia maintains a healthy weight, soft shiny fur, and hasn’t gotten sick her whole life thus far (15 months old). My older dog also did very well on it until we had to switch him because of poultry, and his fur hasn’t been the same on his new food, very lackluster, but that could be due to his age as well. I’m not sure. All in all I highly recommend this food for small breed adult dogs who have to have grain-free food! I have three little dogs–a Terrier mix, a Poodle, and a Shih Zhu. Feeding the first two is easy. They'll eat just about anything and stay healthy and active.Our little Shih Zhu, however, is another story. I have just found out from many vets that grain free dog food and signature specifically has been in a study that has shown it leads to heart failure in dogs. That being said I have been feeding this to my dog for 4 years and she just was diagnosed with heart disease and was in heart failure. I had to put her down at just 5 years old. After 3 years of horrible itching solved only by Apoquel meds, I am extremely happy to say that my dog is off the Apoquel as well as all other required supplements and ailments just to prevent itching so much (coconut oil, probiotics, etc). He just gets Zignature Duck dog food twice a day and he itches MAYBE 2 minutes in a 12 hour period. That's beyond incredible. Worth every cent. Our dog seems to be allergic to a bunch of stuff resulting in problems with his ears and feet. Tried him on this as it’s free of chicken and beef after much consideration of the recent stories about the risks of grain free food. At the end of the day we decided the incidences of health problems were sufficiently low to be not significant. Dogs seem to like it and one of them’s a fussy eater.

Last year I rescued an older dog from the city shelter, who was unfortunately, underweight for what he should weigh. I was very excited to nurse him back to health and put a little weight on him. I soon learned, however, that he is extremely picky, and didn't like most foods, even special "human food" like chicken breast. He doesn't like 99.9% of all dog treats either. I tried several brands of food, but he turned his nose at all of them. Thankfully, a dog rescue friend of mine mentioned the Earthborn Holistic brand of dog foods. They have high quality ingredients, no meat byproducts, no cheap fillers without nutritional value like corn, and this particular formula is grain free. My rescue dog is small, and I noticed after a while that he does not like dog food unless it comes in tiny pieces. Thankfully, this Earthborn Holistic formula comes in a "small breed" version, which means that the kibble pieces are very, very, small. To my delight, my rescue dog ate this food, and soon decided that he loved it. I bought this food 2 weeks ago because my dog has been picky about her food for months now. I have tried Hills Science, Purina Pro, Blue Buffalo – all puppy dry food. We’ve been feeding Taste of the Wild Appalachian for small dogs for about a year now after switching to about 10 different brands. He loves it. I used to feed grain free and such but after attending a canine health seminar at my breed nationals, it was talked about that dogs need a more balanced diet and that it does include grains. I had also been avoiding chicken as I had a dog who was allergic but was convinced to try this. They source quality ingredients and they are processed in a way that keeps them quality. Since then, a lot has also come out about grain free high protein causing heart problems in dogs! I switched to Royal Canin in October and my pugs have never looked better! Pugs are not a very active breed and yet the grain free diets kept them too lean for my taste. I also had issues with urinary tract infections and yeast. This food provides a good balance of carbs/protein and I see it reflected in my dogs. Healthy weight, good quality of coat and lots of energy. I feed the large breed blend to my Rottweiler too and get nothing but compliments on her coat. As far as cost, I can get this locally now at Petco as cheap or cheaper than with the online big store! I feed this to my picky Yorkie who eats it well and her coat is the shiniest I've ever seen it after a couple months on this food. We were recently traveling and my large dog went on a hunger strike and refused to eat. I offered her this food to stimulate her appetite and she ate it right up! Diamond Naturals dry dog foods are great dog foods. I feed my 3 big dogs the Chicken most often, but do rotate the other meats, beef, lamb & salmon in too for a great variety. The breeder we purchased our Shih Tzu puppy from uses only Royal Canin products for their dogs and puppies. We were sent home with a Royal Canin Puppy Kit which contained a small bag of Mini Puppy food, a can of Puppy in Gel Appetite Stimulation starter food, and a food guide. Since our puppy was familiar with the Royal Canin Mini Puppy food, we did not want to change. When our puppy arrived to our home he was a bit stressed from leaving his litter mates and his mom. The long drive home to his new home added to the stress, as well, and his appetite decreased. For the first few days, we added the Royal Canin Puppy in Gel Appetite Stimulator food to the Mini Puppy food to maintain his eating routine. Within the few days, he was back on track with his eating schedule once again and back to simply eating the Mini Puppy food. He recently received his rabies shot and wasn't feeling up to par. He had an upset tummy and wasn't eating well. Our vet suggested to give him something he "could not resist" to stimulate his appetite. Therefore, we made the choice to try the Puppy Healthy Development dog food and add it to his Mini Puppy food. He immediately took to it, and his appetite returned. He really enjoyed the extra treat in his food! We were happy that we had a variety of choices to turn to within the Royal Canin line of puppy food to stimulate his eating just in case we were unsuccessful with the Healthy Development food. My dog has the bad tendency to wolf down her food, even when using things like bowls with obstructions. Because of this, most standard dog food pellets are too big and become lodged in her esophagus when she eats too fast, making her sick. Eukanuba's small bite dog food has been the perfect solution for this problem. She has never had an issue with the taste, which allows me to use normal pieces of kibble as incentives when we train new tricks and reinforce old ones. We've been exclusively feeding her this food for years and have never had any problems with it. I would highly recommend it for any dog that tends to eat too quickly.
I changed my dogs to this initially because I wanted firmer mor compact bowel movements and less diarrhea with my elderly shepherd. The small bites work with my dogs which range from 20-110 lbs. My shepherd was barely able to pull himself up even with assistance. I was devastated thinking I would have to put him to sleep. 2 month’s down the line his is running in the back yard, barking at the other dogs. They all love it! I got a little dachshund puppy about a month and a half ago and she’s been on the same food that the breeder gave her. It has never sat right with me that she doesn’t actually like the food and only eats it to get full. I have been researching for a long time different foods and what ingredients are bad or good and I went to a pet store to actually get a different food but they didn’t have it and I ran across this one. As soon as I saw the first few ingredients I knew that it would be great for her. I just gave her her first scoop of it and she literally ate it all within 5 minutes. William, my miniature dachshund is a very fussy sausage when it comes to kibble. If it doesn’t smell right or it isn’t the right size he will not entertain it at all. When my parcel arrived he was dancing round the box with excitement before I had even opened it so I took this as a good sign that he liked the smell! I was pleasantly surprised when I received this. It was a massive bag and it was very appealing to the eye. I loved the fonts and colours used, it separates it from other dog food. The instructions were clear to follow and the bag was easy to open and dispense. My dog was very interested in it and when I opened it, I found it had a very nice aroma. I have tried a slew of diet foods for my boys, that have zero medical issues, to try and have them lose a few pounds and be their perfect healthy weight again. After a good handful of prescription and non prescription foods that just didn’t work for them, I went out on a limb and tried this food after a friend mentioned it. Recently added a new fur baby to my family. She was on ceasers wet food when I first got her. I tried royal chain puppy wet food and hill's scientific puppy wet food. She loved the latter. However, her vet wanted her on kibble. So, I tried merrick puppy…she hated it. Wouldn't touch it so I went back to hill's puppy wet food til I decided to try their kibble. It was a no brainers as to which to get because she's a yorkie and theirs a yorkie puppy on the bag. I purchased it, tried it and she loved it and has been eating it since.Kerohard
Blue Buffalo put our puppy in the vets because the vet said our puppy couldn't handle that formula and that he needed a well balanced diet. We decided to try science diet after comparing seven different brands. Our puppy Jeremiah was drawn to his food bowl immediately and ate his meal without encouragement. Couldn't say that for the first food. He enjoy the taste of both the kibble and the wet food. He is gaining weight and is very healthy.
