Does not stand the test of time. We bought this thinking our 70 lb dog would be more comfortable in his crate. Initially it was very nice and comfortable, then it started to breakdown and get little holes in it and lost its fluff. My other dog beds have lasted several years without issue in their crates.
I know it gives you the measurements so the too small thing is my fault. However, I could've made something better than this. The memory foam is very small and doesn't provide much padding at all. It was around $20 for the x small and I could make something better with that amount of money.kimmi

We just bought the Big Barker 4" Crate Pad for our 8 year old Labrador! He just loves it! I could hardly put it down and he was already crawling onto it! We had purchased the Big Barker 7" Bed with the headrest for him in 2020. And, Booker really likes that big bed. Booker had surgery for a Luxating Patella when he was 11 months old, and he also has hip dysplasia in both hind hips. Between his supplements and using the Big Barker beds, he is doing very well in spite of his health issues. We also chose to purchase the Waterproof Liners for both the Big Barker bed and the Crate bed. Because these beds are so amazing and will last so long, I wanted to have a waterproof liner for both. I wanted to be prepared for a dog who will eventually become a senior dog and wanted to avoid accidents on the beds. The covers are actually really good for that, but I wanted the extra protection. I have had 2 large dogs at once on the Big Barker bed numerous times and you can't even see any sagging at all. Yet the bed is very comfortable and great for dogs with orthopedic problems. We knew Henny was going to be big when we adopted him when he was four months old, but he ended up being way bigger than we thought he would be once he became one years old (he's a German Shepherd mix, but I swear he's bigger than all the pure bred German Shepherds around the neighborhood. Must be a XL breed in him somewhere). That means XL crate and XL beds. At first we tried the cheapest route, and got a smaller (at least small for Henny) bed/pad from Home Goods. But after a small amount of time and because of Henny's weight, the pad just flattened to basically nothing. Since we were still kennel/crate training him at night, we often heard him moving around to adjust. And when he adjusted, he would get up, twirl around, and then slam down loud and hard (we often thought something large fell in the house). Therefore, the bed/pad did nothing for that amount of impact. Also, although we don't know for sure, it's likely he has hip dysplasia based on certain signs. Eventually, we decided we should invest in a better bed/pad for Henny and looked online for the best. Big Barker beds were frequently on top lists, and after purchasing the Crate Pad, it makes sense why! Henny usually needs some form of an incentive to go in his kennel. But after only a few minutes of opening the box and putting the pad in the crate, Henny willingly walked in and laid on his new bed/pad. We also noticed that he doesn't move around as much at night, and even when he does, definitely no longer hearing a loud slam anymore. There are some things that isn't really the product's fault and shouldn't prevent purchasing, but it's good to be aware and mindful of. Henny threw up once in the middle of the night. It did slip off the top of the pad, but some of it got onto the tray. Eventually the throw up did soak through the zipper and into the foam. We washed the cover, put some baking soda on the foam to suck up the throw up, and it's all good. Henny is a determined chewer and likely has a small case of separation anxiety. We went to the gym for an hour once, and had put him in the kennel with the pad. When we came back, we saw that he chewed off and ate the Made in America tag and the rubber or silicone Big Barker tag that was on the bed. We should've known better, because he's done that with almost everything (he really specifically loves tags). But, he didn't mess with those for a while and we thought it was fine…but nope. Again, not the product's fault. Henny can destroy that most "durable" of things — the Xtreme Kong, hard natural rubber Goughduts toys, etc. So if you have a dog like Henny, maybe just cut those things off ahead of time. Thankfully, he eventually threw up the rubber/silicone tag. The crate bed/pad is really great! And we often see Henny just randomly deciding to go in his kennel to just lay down. I'm thinking we most likely will get a non-crate/kennel bed.msasorith
This is my second crate pad. The first one lasted over four years, but began to smell due to urine. This time I got the crate pad with a waterproof liner. My Ridgeback had joint pain at a ripe age of 2 years. He use to scream in ear piercing pain. He was in so much pain that he would avoid laying down as much as possible. So I researched the best bed I could find, and after a couple hours I stumbled upon big barker. Ever since I got him a big barker headrest, crate pad, and cosequin (max strength+MSM and HA) he hasn’t screamed since. He is now almost 8 years old, and loves his headrest and crate pad. You really can’t go wrong with a big barker. Except, If you have a destructive pup then look for a different bed. I’m glad that I got my big barker beds after my dogs went through their teething stage. However, I have an extremely destructive chewing puppy, and he loves sneaking on the headrest bed to lay on it and surprisingly hasn’t tried to eat it yet. It’s imperative, especially for large breeds, to have a good bed. Arthritis eats away on the bones such as rust eats away metal. Feeling confident that my dog isn’t breathing in material composed of carcinogens, and has no pressure points, definitely gives me peace of mind. When my puppy matures and stops eating everything in sight, I am going to get the two couch big barkers at the largest size and combine both of them so all of my dogs can sleep together. For those who are daunted by the price, think of it this way: I was spending $60 on a Kong bed per month, that equates to $720 a year, and that doesn’t even include tax. Their big barker headrest that I got almost 6 years ago looks the same as it did when I first brought it home. I have a waterproof liner for the headrest as well, and it’s keeping the bed from deteriorating. It hasn’t lost its firmness at all. The headrest bed is literally nicer than my bed. The crate itself is good quality. I had a some trouble installing the garage style door. Make sure you install the top before the bottom. It took me like an hour to figure it out. The large crate is huge and it will fit a standard full grown size Goldendoodle. The reason why I gave it 3 stars is because the preorder took about 3 months to arrive. I had to buy a temporary crate for the meantime. I ordered the white and it is very nice. Also, for the price, they should have included the bed with the crate. It is way too expensive! This is a fantastic crate pad! The ONLY reason I knock off one star is the fact that you can't buy replacement covers. I wish you could. Otherwise, it cleans so easily and dries pretty fast which is invaluable considering other pet items I have that are air dry only take over 12 hours in an apartment setting. Not this though! I've only had one instance in almost 6 months where the cover was soaked though and I sprayed the dog spray I had on the foam insert cover. That resolved the issue which was nice though there is still a stain but that's no problem. I will admit I gave in and paid the hefty price tag to get a perfect fit for my dogs revol cage and turns out it does not fit perfectly. it can be slid around inside and if any spills happen water WILL get through the cover. Not only is it pricey but when you go to wash the covers it’s almost IMPOSSIBLE to get the cover back on. Why could it not be any more simple? Also the pad itself STINKS SO BAD. It gives off a terrible chemical smell and I left it outside to air out for two days and the smell is still there. I washed the covers twice and the pad still makes the pad smell so bad like chemicals. Definitely not worth it.Alex
