I purchased 2 "talking monkeys" for my 6 yr old basset hound Emmy because she liked the "talking ducks" (from Petco.com) so much. There's something about the noise these "recorded sounds" make, that drives her nuts. She races around the house like crazy, playing with the toy, making the noises (which are not at all obnoxious), causing my 12 year old basset Wendy to bark & bark. It gives me great joy to see them having fun. Unfortunately the mechanical devices inside the toys don't hold up. They should have more protection around the metal "noise box". 2 ducks & 1 monkey stopped working after a few hours of play. I'll keep buying them as long as Petco keeps replacing them. …but it's a bit annoying for me, lol. The sound can get old quite quickly, especially since he just loves to activate the monkey sounds, which sound nothing like the gorilla it's portraying but is still appealing to most dogs. I have a 90 lb mutt. He's mixed with chow, lab, Australian shepherd, & border collie (I had him DNA tested, which was really fun). He should only be about 65 lbs and is overweight but hasn't chewed up this toy yet. He tends to be "nice" when playing and mouthing his toys, just like when he's playing with other dogs or rough housing with my son. It probably helps that I trained my pup how to be "nice" when he used to accidentally bite my hand when I'd give him treats & say "OW!" So, now when I give him a new toy, I tell him to "play nice" with it. He also doesn't bite a toy to activate the sound or squeaker. He just noses it when it's on the floor. Idk where he got that from, but this toy has lasted about a month so far & is still making screaming, monkey sounds, lol. The koala is a favorite and she grabs it when people in the house are laughing because the koala's sound is a child's laughter and it allows her to laugh with us.These are well made toys that keep our dogs interested and entertained. Cow's body is well made and still mostly in tact. It's head is soft and stuffed. Inside the body, the moo-er takes up about 2/3 of the toy with stuffing filling out the rest, head included. Fabric has +/- 1/4" nap, just long enough for those tiny teeth in the front to grab and pull. Eyes and nose are stitched into the fabric. I kid you not, I came here to try and find out what this pig is actually saying when I press his belly. My whole family was convinced he's saying "Im Doyle." Coming here it says that's supposed to be an oink? I don't think it sounds anything like an oink but my dog loved this toy anyway….Michelle
I have a 3 year old, 70 lb Siberian husky. She is obsessed with these. I got her one of each (yes, she is a spoiled princess). She carries them everywhere and loves hearing their different noises. She usually destroys toys after having them a while but the sounds always distract her before she can even start to chew on it. Great product. After searching for the above referenced product, I discovered it has been replaced with a new model that is not as sturdy or chew-proof as this one. Another pet supply company suggested I check with Mickey's Pet Supply. To my delight, there were still a few of the original frogs in stock. By far, this frog is the "go to" toy and absolutely the most favorite toy for playing chase with and resting a chin on when exhausted. I can say the green frog with the white chest lasts for several years and can be washed many times. Hope the company will bring back the older model.Dorothy M.
