First of all it's sturdy and seems well made. It does slow down their eating however don't use this bowl if you want your dogs chin to have hair and pigmentation on their lower lip. Our dog started loosing hair and pigmentation to his lower chin/lip to the point it's now the size of 10cent coin. Was told by our vet the bowl is the cause due to the rubbing as he's trying to get to the food. Have since stopped using this bowl and his hair and pigmentation has started to go back to normal. We recently changed our dogs to a raw diet and as expected they love it and gulp the food in one go. So I thought I would try these bowls. If you have a lurched size I would get them a medium as the large gaps are easy for them to get their snout in open mouth wide to take big gulps. And a small for collie type. This is my recommendation on bowl size for raw diets might. They might need a bigger bowl if feeding dry feed. It definitely slows my two down.me_bex81

My cat is a pig. She meows, instead of oinks! All she wants to do is eat…and eat fast!!! She doesn't even chew her food….Swallows dry food like they are pills!, and then immediately throw it all up. She doesn't like wet food. I would put some kind of an obstacle in her regular dish. I would use a golf ball, but I don't have one. Anyway, it would slow her down, but it wasn't ideal. The Durapet bowl does work, no more throwing up. It is a lot larger than what I expected. It won't fit in the cat feeding stand that I have for her. I hate giving this a bad review. This is a VERY good product and the idea of it is GREAT. HOWEVER, saying that, it does NOT work for my dachshund. He was rescued from the streets and we have had him almost 3 years, however he is a FAST and I mean even the daycare couldn't believe it. We had recently tried the durapet PLASTIC feeder which should have slowed him down.. but it didn't.. We have another doxie and now HE gobbles his down fast because the minute Harry is done (like a minute..no lie) he tries to get Grinser's food. So I was hoping this would work. I WILL say it stays PUT .. like glue..EXCELLENT.. but it just doesn't work for Harry. I gave it 4 stars because I don't want a bad review to keep someone from trying it. The medium bowl holds 2 cups of food max, so if your pet eats more than that you will need the bigger bowl. This bowl has slowed down my dog's intake. Not a lot, but enough to stop his regurgitation. I also now feed him twice a day instead of once. I bought an extra bowl for water, but at this point I am only giving him 1 cup at a time, so I don't know if this bowl works well for that. My dog had been eating too much too fast and then drinking water causing the regurgitation. It's been 2 weeks now and no regurgitation. They are cute and sturdy, but they are very small – just large enough for a puppy's (or a very very small dog) meal, and the one we fill with water needs to be refilled 2 or 3 times a day. A few years ago I purchased one of these large stoneware dog bowls to use as an upstairs water bowl for my dog. I like it because it seems to keep the water cooler longer. Now a few years later, I have a German Shepherd puppy. This wee beastie's main goal each day is to create as much havoc as she can. This includes removing the two quart stainless steel bowls out of her raised feeding station (whether they are full of food and water or not) and dragging them all over my house. I have had two of these bowls for 12 years. I put dry kibble in one bowl and water in the other. They get washed every day. After almost 12 years the bowl that I put the water in has become rough on the inside bottom. This has NOT happened with the food bowl. I use a wet cloth with dish soap and water to wash the bowls and dry them with a paper towel. I bought these bowls to go with ones I had bought years ago to help my old arthritic border collie she has lumbar sacral disease and bending to eat or drink was an issue. We had stands for food ,these were bought for water. The large is half the height of the old ones we have but high enough for water . My 3 cats share this bowl with my two dogs. The inlay of this bowl is made of stainless steel which allows easy cleaning. It does have some weight to this bowl and the nonskid ring on the bottom prevents any sliding around. The outer layer I feel is also stainless steel it's just that it is coated so it doesn't slip out of your hands when it's wet. I actually like this bowl however while it says 12.5 cups of water that would bring it up to the very rim of the bowl itself. If anyone is going to fill it to the rim then they are best to fill it at its final location otherwise you will spill some thru transport to its final destination. IMO it is best if you only fill it up with 11 cups of water. All in all, this is a really nice bowl for food or water. If you use it for water make sure to wash the slim built-up that occurs in ALL stainless steel bowls. My cats drink from this bowl also, so it's not just for dogs. It is great to eliminate whisker stress in cats which I really like.
The Lucky Dog Indulge 5 – 40oz Dog Bowl is certainly one that will withstand the daily usage of any size dog. The size of the dog bowl is especially perfect for larger dogs as their consumption would normally require plenty of refills. The dog bowl has a nice design to it creating a rugged bowl that will withstand dents and dings that sometimes appear on lower grade dog bowls. The stainless steel design will eliminate any rusting potential however it does not make the bowl too heavy when transporting it. Our dog appeared to be drawn to the bowl which is not normally the case for him. The design of the bowl seemed to keep a cooler water temperature even though it was outside in the sun on a hot day. The bottom of the bowl has a non-skid rubber gasket that reduces movement on floors while the dog is drinking. The bowl is offered in two colors to match your décor. The logo on the side and the imprinted logo on the bottom add a bit of style to the bowl for any household. This bowl is one that will last for quite a while given its rugged construction.Barts2
This is a darn good looking water bowl that is well built and should last a lifetime. It is a powder coated steel and double walled like most of the fancy thermoses everyone has these days (which is great if you want to have this custom engraved). It's about 4" tall, 9" in diameter, and will hold 3/4 of a gallon. It has a rubber ring on the bottom to keep your pup from scooting it around and is dishwasher safe. While this is double walled and insulated, do keep in mind that it has a large exposed area open at the top, so don't count on this to keep your pups water as cold for as long as your fancy tumbler does with your drinks. Overall, I'm not sure that there is much else to note. This is a clean looking, well made, and practically bullet proof bowl that's great for water or food.Matt L.

My Kelpie/Heeler puppy inhales his food, so I thought a slow feeder may help. After looking around, I thought the design of the Outward Hound Fun Feed Dog Bowl might be just the ticket. It arrived today. I put a small amount of kibble into it and after a good ten minutes of trying to get at the food, my puppy decided the only way to get at it was to turn the bowl upside down! It worked, but the few biscuits I put in there were inhaled, so no slow feeding here! The only way a dog is going to get at the food is by using its tongue. The ridges are too close together to get a mouth in. If using kibble, the tongue just chases it around the bowl and never gets a purchase on it. I can imagine that a dog may manage to get at wet food, but there will be a large percentage of wastage as even wet food will still be playing chasey around the bowl when it gets low. I've wasted $31 on this bowl, so I won't be wasting more money on wet food that will end up in the sink. Give this one a wide berth.Michelle
Let me preface this review by saying that I am not familiar with the Outward Hound brand, and have never used one of their products. That being said, I was quite interested in trying out this slow feeding dog bowl because my dog needs to slow down her eating habits quite a bit. For ease of use, I will break this review down into categories. Design – The design of this dog bowl is just fantastic! Sleek lines and a glossy, teal finish that really give it a fun vibe that I happen to enjoy in the products I use. The the ridges and valleys of the bowl also seem well rounded so that the whole package is really quite a treat, pun intended. Functionality – The bowl functions perfectly, effectively forcing my dog to take her time a bit more…resulting in a feeding time about sixty percent longer than normal according to my testing. Even better, she actually would leave some in the bowl so I know it is letting her know she is full before she is finishing! Verdict – 5 out of 5! I really can't recommend this product enough! I will definitely be keeping tabs on this brand for any other products they put out as well as telling my friends about them. Could not be any more satisfied!Justin
Lately my Redbone has been inhaling his food and I worry about him doing this. I tried combatting it with small, frequent meals, but he'll still gobble it down in seconds. Sometimes he'll eat so fast that he then regurgitates it (different than vomiting). So, when I had the chance to try out this Outward Hound Stop Bloat Slow Feeder Bowl, I was really excited. I chose the Large size as my dog is 85lb. It arrived in pristine shape and was way larger than I expected it to be. I only feed him about 1-1.5 cups of food per meal, so could definitely have tried the medium as well. This bowl will hold a lot of food. I even think it would work well for dogs that tank up on water. This bowl is probably a good 11-12" in diameter. The surface is very smooth and very easy to clean. There are four ring troughs, the central two being the largest. We feed a combo of wet and dry and it is still easy to fill the bowl. This has taken my dog from wolfing his food down in about two gulps to actually spending a minute or so eating. He likes to lick all the nooks and crannies after, too, so I think the bowl is vaguely entertaining to him as well. I would definitely recommend this bowl for dogs who eat too fast. I am using this for a 75 lb doberman. It is a good height for her and it's nice to have her food and water together. She can be messy at times and this is easy to wipe clean. The bowls go in and out easily, but what I have done is place her old food bowl inside the stainless steel one. It is smaller in diameter and fits right inside the one that came with the feeder. It has the added advantage of catching additional spills. My only complaint would be that the feeder is light weight and can be easily scooted around on a tile floor. Her's is right up next to the side of the fridge which prevents it from moving around. This was a good value for the price.wtr8one
This is exactly the right height for my standard poodle. I did not realize that the bowls would fit into cut out holes with no bottom, so you have to have exactly the right sized bowl. Also, double check the measurements – this thing is HUGE. Happy that my 11 year old poodle does not have to bend over to eat any more.Donna M.

I’ve got all the sizes of these and the treat jars. We use the biggest bowls for daily dry food/water; however we have to give pet meds regularly and use the smaller ones for wet food. They are solid and hefty and don’t shift easily for a 60 lb dog. Fine in the dishwasher. And since they’re white, I can easily see when they need washing. Did I mention they’re completely adorable?
