Was very disappointed in the overall design of the watering bowl. In my opinion it was not worth what it cost. The pump was very small and inadequate, not properly filtering the water as advertised. And yes, I was keeping the water changed and the bowl cleaned as often as I had to do so with a regular unfiltered water bowl. The pump lasted 3 weeks and I had to return the system. Historically, we have always used a bowl. After looking around and reading reviews I decided to try this bowl. I went with the big max as we have 4 cats and occasionally a dog visitor. Initially the cats were spooked and were afraid. I had kept the original water bowl set up. Over a couple days they adjusted and now this is the one they use 99% of the time. I bought this fountain for 3 cats 3 months ago, and it stopped working a few days ago. The motor in the pump seems to have burned out simply from regular usage. Got mine about 4 months ago and initially, I thought all my problems were over. I have two very large dogs and 2 cats. I'm using this as an outdoor waterer for a rabbit. Selected this hoping the filters would prevent mosquitos from getting in water tank and reproducing as they had in my big poultry waterer. Doesn’t automatically dispense water at least half of the time. I’ve had to start walking by and checking/adjusting the jug multiple times a day bc the jug was visibly full but my dog was acting thirsty. Bc of the stainless bowl it’s hard to see unless you’re up close that there’s not actually any water in the bowl, despite the tank being full. I have to wiggle it or sometimes pick it up entirely in order to get water flowing again. It’s a great concept but it’s not built very well. I bought both the large and medium versions of this PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Stations for my dogs. These PetSafe versions are much better water stations than other water stations that I've owned recently. First, the fill caps are exactly the same and interchangeable between both the large and medium version. The fill caps also have spring cut off valves and a closable plug valve that is used with an added filter. The somewhat strange shape of their water reservoir bottles make the bottles much easier to carry. The black handles on the water bottles are primarily used to lock the bottles into the plastic bases. You can carry the larger bottle by its full grip handle, but not the medium bottle as there is no handle opening to wrap your hand around with the medium bottle's handle. Both of the water stations have a removable metal water bowls/basins which is dishwasher safe. About the only thing negative thing about these PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Stations is that they do NOT come with the special water filters as I expected them to because the filters were listed as "included" on the items web page. So I was a little irritated that these water stations didn't come with their water filters. My order took about a week to 10 days to arrive and they arrived on the same day in separate shipping boxes. These items were not shipped in their retail boxes but were instead sent in simple clear plastic bags that were taped closed.BillyDeeMe

My friend/roommate bought this for her dog two months ago while trying to get her to drink more water. Her dog wouldn’t even touch this, so she gave it to me for my dog. My dog will drink anything so I had no issues with that but the quality of this product is so poor. First, the water reservoir has no seal on it so when you fill it up to place it in the bowl, it spills everywhere. The parts barely even fit together. The motor wasn’t working so I took it apart and putting it back together was a nightmare. I put it together with her when we first got it also and nothing would want to fit together then either. I purchased this fountain a few months ago. It worked great at first, then I started noticing the water was not flowing like it should. More like it was dripping. A month later now the pump doesn’t work. I’ve purchased other fountains before and this one is the worst of them. I have a cat who is the only one who drinks from this fountain. So theres 2 filters a debris filter just a filter with big gaps to let water through not debris floating in the water and charcoal filter to filter the water. You put the charcoal filter first which lets nothing but water through down a little step to a different section pumps it up through the debris filter and back into the cats dish. so instead of collecting all the debris in the second section using the step down it all gets stuck at the charcoal filter in the part the cats drink out of making the water gross very fast. The order of the filters doesn’t make sense debris filters are usually used to stop debris from clogging stuff but the charcoal filters in the way first stopping all the debris anyways getting clogged. The charcoal filter filters the water clean you already filtered it why does it need the debris filter after that are you saying that debris will get in the water after its been filtered that would defeat the purpose of this while thing. It need to be separating the gross water into the second section leaving the dish clean. Then run it through the debris filter and then the charcoal filter this whole thing is just bad engineering all aroundKeaton

This product is excellent. The cats seem to alternate between the still pool of water and the gently flowing fountain. I don't find the motor noisy, but can hear the trickling water sometimes. Adjusting the fountain flow and ensuring water is topped up seems to fix problem. The motor stopped working after about 6 months but I think this is because I didn't change most recent filter soon enough (1-2 months seems to work). I looked up how to fix the motor and have successfully done this by looking at a youtube video by Pioneer Pet products on how to clean it. It went from not working to good as new within a few minutes. The initial outlay for the product seems on the pricey side, but for what it is I think it is worth it. I got this item as a gift. The bottle is sturdy, the base plentiful. (not sure if newer models changed to a lower quality bottle) Points that need addressing: The Charcoal filter is so compactly wrapped in plastic that it's hard to know it should be peeled off. Suggest you have a sticker that says "remove first". My first assembly failed due to that tight plastic cover and it's no wonder others have complained that it didn't flow water. The designs, cute looking lid is useless. Instead suggest the lid is made into a functional opening for ease of cleaning the inside of the bottle. I got this for my Lab/Shepherd/Hound mix and Beagle/Boxer/Pitt mix. At first it worked nicely. The dogs drank more and stopped trying to drink from the toilet. Then after about a month it developed a leak at the bottom. Now it's useless. Also, I had to wipe it out every other day to prevent a slimely buildup around the edges from happening. I have two dogs and they both love this fountain. We have it outside on our "uncovered" porch. The white part where the water comes out lights up at night which makes it look nice in the dark. Friends think it's a regular fountain, so the aesthetics are pleasing. You can tell when it needs water because you can hear the water trickling inside. I do have to clean it about every 4-5 days, moreso in the warm weather. It does get slimey inside. Better than my dogs drinking from the yucky birdbaths!Madaboutdogs

We are on our second fountain which we do love, but the first pump failed in about 2 weeks. They are easy to take apart and clean but this second pump now has stopped working. The fountain stays really clean so there isn'teven any gunk inside the pump to really clean but after 4 months on the first replacmeent I have another dead pump. Did I get a bad batch?Betty Boup

The media could not be loaded. With four cats in the home, this isn't my first rodeo when it comes to fountains. My cats drink a LOT more when the water is constantly running, so years back I invested in a large stainless steel fountain set up close to the $100 range. We have well water, which means that many fountains with the cute little "fountain effect" – streaming little rivers from the top – clog easily. I was always cleaning that darn thing. But more annoying? So many pieces when it came time to clean, and multiple consumable parts required for the filter setup. Enter this little fountain. Combination of plastic and stainless steel. I wasn't entirely sold on the idea of plastic, but with a setup like this – where most of the water is not visible from the top – it is nice to be able to keep an eye on the water level. I'm coming around to it, I like that the top part is stainless steel. The deeper "tank' setup versus the big open designs where all the water is exposed constantly means that less dust/debris/etc ends up in the water. I think this design is superior after seeing both in action. This fountain is SILENT and NO SPLASHING/DRIPS! This is huge! Fountains with the sound of running water tend to be soothing for a few weeks and then they are just not. Particularly depending on where you want to put fresh water for your feline friend. Because there is no splashing water and thus no potential drippage, I feel comfortable putting this in the hallway corner straight on the wood floor. Just as awesome? No consumable filters with this set up. It is a three tier divided container with a super simple little turning plastic gear in the bottom that keeps it going. SO easy to take apart and SO easy to clean. If you need your water filtered due to taste then this probably isn't the unit for you, but if you are looking for easy/free maintenance give it a try! Picture included with a cat to give idea on size scale. From a daily use perspective I have two cats that drink from it every day (it is not their only source of water though) and I have to add water once a week. Only note? Don't overfill above the max water line. I did, during initial setup, and the fountain wouldn't turn on. I dumped some water back out and it still wouldn't. I unplugged/plugged it back in, and then it started up. Keep that in mind just in case you, like me, have trouble following directions!
***Update 10/28/2022*** Revising my initial review (below). Eufy customer service reached out after my initial review. They sent me a replacement unit as the first unit I received appeared to be used. Everything works great and the unit is incredibly easy to maintain and use. The "pump" mechanism is a vast improvement to most pet water fountains. Instead of a pump that sits in the bottom of the water reservoir and gets gummed up with whatever schmoo ends up floating around in the tank, this unit uses a magnet driven impeller that is easy to remove and clean. The actual motor that drives the impeller is completely separate from the water tank and can't get all gummed up. All the parts fit together neatly and the unit makes practically no noise. My only gripe is that it doesn't come with the USB wall "brick" that plugs into your outlets. Luckily we have several outlets with built in USB ports. Seems like an easy/cheap fix that would address most of the negative reviews I've seen on Amazon. ***Initial Review 10/10/2022*** Just received this and it appears to be used. There are water stains on the top metal piece and the filter looks dirty and has hairs on it.
We've been thru a LOT of water fountains. Dozens. They are either too loud, too difficult to clean, never stay clean, break after a few months, filters are too expensive, too tall for my Munchkin, or the cats just don't like them. I have 2 kitties and they are not buddies. They won't drink from the same water dish. After getting fed up with the last one for the short one, I saw this one and figured it looked promising. It was easy to set up and I was instantly impressed with how much water it could hold and how easy it is to see the water level. I can see it clear across the room! With most of the others, you either can't see at all, or it has a tiny window you have to stand in front of and bend down to check. So far I was impressed but then it was up to the cats. My little one is obsessed with water fountains and ran right up to it as soon as the water started coming out of the spout. She was a little apprehensive at first, but then gave it a try, and she loves it. Then one day and I was in the living room and heard her meowing, which she doesn't do often, and I came in and she was crying because her big sister was using her fountain! They generally share nothing. Don't sleep in the same spots, won't eat from the same dish, but I guess this fountain is so good, that they are learning to share. Sometimes I find my little one camped out in front of it and her big sister waiting nearby, wanting a turn. I've been using it a solid month now, and I'm very impressed. Several I've tried haven't even lasted this long. Another checkmark in the Eufy column, I really haven't ever bought an item from them that didn't work as intended.

Hi, I got this because it had running water, just enough to peek my cats interest. I hoped. Good deal, Michelangelo loves this little bowl with a small waterfall. You can call it recirculating running water, but I like waterfall. He is fascinated by the waterfall that recirculates. My cat has undiagnosed ADD, so to see him sit by the bowl after the 3rd day and still be intrigued………YES!! I love watching him take an interest in this item and continue to hang around it. I owned the original Fresh Flow fountain for 10 years (the one with the flow control lever, and blue colored reservoir) and loved it. I never had an issue with it, and gave it away after my cats passing. I now have a new kitty and just purchased a new Fresh Flow fountain, but sadly… I don’t find it not on par with the original version. Although the design remains the same, it seems the plastic is a little flimsy in comparison and it is quite a bit more noisy. The pump appears to be a pulsing electro-magnetic design that emits good amount of vibration when it runs. This vibration resonates throughout the plastic body of the fountain leaving you with a noticeable 60Hz groan as the fountain operates. It’s a shame because I do appreciate the concept in which the water “slides” down into the bowl vs some other brands that “pour” water into the bowl. The slide idea makes it less intimidating for most cats and you don’t get the water noise like you do from the other designs. However, I just don’t think I can deal with the mechanical noise. I have purchased several types of pet fountains over the years. Issues with all of them. Mostly I could never find one large enough that held enough water. I ran across this Drinkwell model on clearance at a local farm and ranch store. It came with the add-on reservoir. I love this fountain! It is quiet, clean, and the cats love it. So do the dogs (I need to buy a larger one for them!). I find it much easier to maintain than other fountains and the pump seems to be superior as well. I never hear it chuffing or buzzing. It doesn't leak or splatter water all over, either. The add-on reservoir is a stroke of genius. It ensures that the fountain doesn't run dry. While I do monitor the fountain every day, I find I don't need to fill or clean it as often as I did other fountains. I'm sold and will only purchase this brand from here on.sjndestiny1959
We had an old, smaller fountain. We replaced the pump when it finally wore out, but the new version of the pump was louder and didn't have flow control options, so we decided to upgrade the whole bowl. First, yes, it's noisy- but it's noisy like an indoor waterfall, because it's bigger than the old one and the water has farther to fall. It doesn't bother us. We've been using it for about a month, maybe longer. It doesn't get dirty as quickly as the old one did and the capacity is surprisingly large. I mean, you can read the specs, but the water reservoir looks small. Maybe it's just because the actual bowl and fountain are bigger. Anyway, with 4 dogs from 55-100 lbs each, and 1 very large kitty, we still only have to fill this fountain a couple of time a week (they have other water bowls, but this one gets used a lot). Bonus 1, our kitty loves the pouring water. The spout extends farther than on the smaller fountain, so he can actually drink like he would from a sink. Bonus 2, the dogs don't make nearly as much of a mess with this one. That's probably a combination of the water level being higher from the floor in the larger bowl, and the sides of the bowl itself being higher, but it's nice whatever the actual reason. I didn't have any trouble inserting the filter- there are instructions telling you which was it fits, after all. So far, so good. If it lasts as long as our previous one did, we'll really be happy!mbtruitt
I have had this for around 8ish or so years. Today I thought it was broken (eg the pump) as the spinner didn't turn. Went on an internet search and didn't find the fix it solution that worked for me so I have posted that below. I discovered that after I had taken out the spinner there was a tiny bit of very flat (as in didn't stick up at all) hard gunk in the very back of where the spinner sits. Q-tips didn't help. Initially when I'd plug it in separate from the fountain it would spin. Then put the fountain together again and it wouldn't. The gunk in there slowed it down just enough with the weight of the water that it wouldn't turn. Finally I took a miniature slot screwdriver (likely a metal knitting needle, spike, skewer, etc. would work too but I don't have one of those – regular screwdrivers are too "fat" to fit) and used the end of that to scrape out the hard gunk – seriously it didn't look like much at all, it looked flat, but it mattered. YES!! It works again. Giant pain in the rear to clean but worth it in the long run. I have long ago dispensed with the expensive filters – although this means you need to clean out the spinner more frequently – like weekly (even if you have the filter stuff still gets in the water and then sucked into the spinner and wrapped around it). Stops my "I will only drink something other than running water under lout protest" cats from begging in the bathtub (as in every single time I'd enter the bathroom they'd come running and jump into the tub), any sink in the place… This is not quiet. If you like the sound of a fountain then this will make you happy. If you need quiet to sleep then don't put it close to your bedroom. I have it in the corner of the kitchen which works for me but then I have to be careful not to accidentally get food in it.Liz

The base has crevices between the two pieces that have been pin-welded together, so it’s just a slime trap. I was going to return them (I bought two), but I decided to try one out. It’s a bit of a pain to get the reservoir onto the base without making a huge mess. Even when I have it on, it overflows and makes a huge mess. Also, this doesn’t seem to be filter friendly as it doesn’t use the same lid as the plastic permeate water dispensers. We’ve only used it for a couple of days, and it’s already nasty. I have never seen a stainless steel waterer until I discovered this. It is perfect since plastic dishes can increase the risk of seizures. Also stainless steel is easy to keep clean. Only wish it came in a bigger size like the plastic/resin ones. Someone suggested trying a standard 5 gallon bottled water with it. I haven't tried it yet but plan to since I have two large dogs and the higher capacity would be great. We bought this to keep our giant slobbery indoor heckin' chonka watered for a brief getaway, and on the whole it's hit the mark for that. At 4 gallons of water, with an optional activated charcoal filter pack, this thing will keep your dog(s) stocked with tasty water for quite a while (especially if you have smaller breeds). It's now our everyday waterer, and we fill it once or twice a month depending on seasonal weather. It's very easy to clean, with all the parts coming apart easily, and the huge openings mean everything's readily accessible even if you have larger hands. Between the easy cleanability and the use of Microban, I'd be comfortable drinking out of it myself after a fresh cleaning. It's never grown weird things or become discolored or slimy between cleanings. But. The 4-gallon model is also a giant, treacherous, clumsy mess when it comes time to refill it and put it back together. Unlike most of their older models, Petmate decided not to mold a handle into the jug on this one. While this would normally just make things slightly less convenient, this jug is also completely untextured and extremely slippery. If you don't manage to get the jug and your hands COMPLETELY bone dry, it can and will slip out of your hands, dump water all over the floor, and dislodge the carbon filter so you have to jam your arm elbow-deep into now-slightly-less-than-four gallons of water to reassemble everything. This giant, slippery, unmanageable bottle uses Petmate's twist-lock bottle top, so even if you get the bottle inserted on the first try, you often still end up wrestling with 32 pounds of sloshy slippery bulk trying to get it into its proper groove. Or, if you don't notice the bottle is slightly off kilter, the gravity feed never stops flowing and soon once again there's water all over your floor. (But, one the up side, once it's on there even your large dog isn't going to knock the bottle off its perch.) If you don't absolutely positively need the largest model, go for a smaller one. If you do, plan to throw some skate deck grip tape or the like on the bottle, and don't plan on passing refill duty off to your younger kids or smaller partner.C.M.
I purchased the 2.5 gallon gravity waterer. It is used by 1 dog and 2 cats. Problem is the water does not flow into bowl unless I tilt it. I thought the filter was obstructing it so I purchased new filter….Same Problem. Then I removed the filter…..Same Problem. Also my cats keep batting at it to get water and end up knocking the reservoir off the bowl…Flows all over floor!! Now it is past the 30 days so no refund or exchange.available…Really wish I had read reviews first, although many seem happy with the product…….Any suggestions??KRP2022
Got a new Jack Russell and after much review of all water bowl products, I decided on this one because it is strong plastic, has microban and is made in USA (although it never says what things are from overseas). Unfortunately, this water "replenishing" water bowl does not work. Utter failure. The charcoal pack had to be removed completely as the water didnt flow. Still, the water does NOT flow…I have to tip is over myself every single time. When I inspected it closer the bottom of the filter part is completely on the bottom of the bowl. Unless the entire unit is tilted at a 45 degree angle, water does NOT come out. I bought this at Petsmart and i tried to take it back but I missed the return window by 2 days. Now I am stuck with a $27 piece of plastic. I hope this will save someone the time, money and frustration.JID918

I have one of these fountains, the original model style, which doesn't look much different from the one pictured here. I, too, have always found it difficult to clean, and the filters actually created a yucky mess, and really didn't help at all to keep water clean. So I stopped using the filters years ago. Never found the "reservoir" to be of any value, other than to create suction so the water would draw up properly to flow down the silent chute! Removed the top years ago, too, so my senior cat could drink more easily, from where the water flows up (where the filter originally was). Remove the the filters and the top, this is a much more practical product without them. Put the reservoir in place (empty) before you turn the unit on after refilling it. With four cats, I clean it once every 5-10 days, and add water regularly. This the second one I've owned, after replacing the inside motor once; when that one stopped working, I bought a whole new fountain. The other part that now needs replacing is the plug because the short wire has a loose connection inside of it. Hopefully, I can get that from PetMate. I also agree that it is difficult to find a "silent" fountain like this model, where the water flows directly down a slope instead of pouring out of the top and hitting a slope or the water below it. There are some on the market, about $20 – $30 more expensive than this one.BambooDragon
I suppose for the price, I shouldn't have expected much, because it is the lowest price for a fountain I've seen so far. I had been looking for a fountain that bubbled up the water fairly well, not just to entice my kitties to drink (they love flowing water) but also to provide some healthy negative ions and moisture to the air. My apartment gets super dry in the winter and every bit helps. However, this is meant just for kitties, so I suppose the flow of the water, which is very light, is good for them because splashing would probably just deter them from drinking. So flow aside, I would have to also say that the catch basin is very shallow, and even the minimal flow from the top will spill over front bottom edge if you fill the water right to the top. Also, the basin is very low to ground, I would have preferred something taller. The components come apart fairly easily for cleaning and are quite easy to put back together, which you only need to do about once a week, and the reservoir comes out very easy for a quick top-up. Overall I would say it's acceptable and does the job for which it was intended, and is fine for kitties, however my recommendation would be to spend a little extra money and get something that's taller, has a bigger basin, and a better flow.bc713
I bought this because we were having a problem with our cat splashing the water in her water bowl to the point of getting everything completely soaked. She would then go in her litter box and leave clay and paw prints all over the house. This frustrated me to all ends! I researched online on why cats do this and saw that they like to see water movement and as most people know most cats likes drinking out of a water faucet. So I read the reviews on this fountain and liked what I read. I figured for under $30 I would take a chance. I am no sorry! This has made my life so much simpler that I wish I had bought this sooner! She has only tried to put her paws in it once. Since then she has not. I turned it sideways on a mat and she can easily drink from the fountain part now and she will just sit and watch it besides. You can tell when it needs more water…gets louder. So far it has done the trick and I am so happy! Beats cleaning out a water dish several times a day! Every three or four day I will rinse and add new water.Luvs2ride
