After trying many different types and brands of jaw scoops I have settled for Nature's Miracle Jaw Scoop (jumbo) to pick up after my six Great Danes and German Shepherd. This scoop holds up for years. Other scoops I've tried have weak handles that soon break, or I have had the plastic break where the scoop is attached. Also I have found other scoops aren't large enough or even strong enough to fully encompass and pick up a giant breed's waste. This Jaw Scoop certainly allows enough room and is built with heavy duty plastic to withstand the work out I put it through on a daily basis. There have been issues with the springs breaking but customer service will happily take care of that for you. However, the company is AWESOME about sending replacements. I've seen other products mimic this style, mainly because it works. You only need one hand to use it and it does the job you want it to. The springs DO deform and eventually break (I got more use out of mine by using needle nose pliers to re-bend the ends). When I finally broke down and called the company to find out where I could get more springs, they just quickly told me they'd send me new ones. No fuss, no receipts necessary – just an address. Apparently I am a heavy user of scoopers since I've purchased 10 in the past year! 5 of those have been the jumbo size of this because they are better than the others, but they still aren't great. The handle is studier, the length is right, and the plastic holds up decently well, much better than others, but the springs break … over.. and over… and over again. The springs- the entire thing that make this work- break. I am not rough on these. I do not overuse it. It is not kept in the elements, but the springs will break – every time. I wish they would use better metal, better springs, or have a new design. I hate having to pay $15-$20 a pop every time they break, but this is still far better than others I've used. I like that the claw is large, and the grip strength is strong & tight- it makes picking up the mess in my very thick grass easier, but that still doesn't explain why the springs break after a month or so of using this 3-4 times a week. If they offered springs for sale separately, or a warranty, or fixed this design flaw it'd be 5 stars.Anony

I have had something break just once and considering the abuse I put it through, it should have gone bad sooner. A few spokes of the rake broke off, and the handle screws into the pan, which I find myself constantly tightening. I bought this about 8 weeks ago because we moved into a home with 2 BIG dogs and they weren't picked up after. It did the job well, and it was nice having the light weight tool…I LOVE the hooks on the top of each piece that I can hang from a fence…however, the tines on the rake are brittle and weak and break off easily, especially if it's cold. I refuse to pick up after my dog using only a plastic bag so I bought this scoop once I knew I was adopting a dog. I have had this scoop since day one and have not had any issues with it so far. The scoop is a little small so I can never get it all in one grab but that is not a big deal. The bags I use are small anyway so the scoop size is not a concern. We had very high hopes for this lightweight and seemingly sensible design, but the jaws do not open wide enough to grab everything produced on each occasion by our 55 lb hound. Also: 1. We are concerned whether the very tiny plastic clips to hold the bag liner will be durable to last over time: really should be metal! 2. The dial to twist the bag works 100% of the time when empty, but only about 50% of the time when "loaded." It is, however, very easy to carry on walks, and seems more hygienic than carrying a full poop bag by hand on a 2 mile walk. So, overall, probably best for a smaller dog.OtterDaughter
