I don’t understand why this is sold as “great option” doesn’t make sense…. If I fit this in the tracks and assuming that it’s a perfect fit, The passageway for humans to walk out is wayyyy too small! You need to dedicate a whole sliding patio entrance only for this item, do not have any hopes that you’ll be able to use it to go in and out or carry something outside, you won’t fit thru it!Amosh83

It was easy to assemble, looks great with the matching white trimming and seals perfect, no cold air coming in. The price was just right compare to others. It wasn’t till I saw the warning on the box that I was aware the door insert was not compatible with my vinyl door. However, I found it was not difficult to adapt it. I would not have ordered it if the warnings on the box were as stressed on the on-line ad. This is a well made pet door. However, you will find it difficult to get a good seal with your existing slider. I had to buy additional weather stripping to put on each side of the pet door. I bought this for my kitties and took awhile for them to using the flap to exit because of the strong magnet at the bottom of the flap.Diane

However, If you have a portable A/C and need a way to expunge the hot air though a sliding glass door, here you go. Just put the robot arm through and you're good. The only other thing I added was weather stripping on both sides, so I'd have some padding between the door and frame. Lastly, I just balled up some rags to seal between the square cat flap and round A/C hose. So, as a cat door, yeah it seems solid. easy to adjust and strong enough to not give up. Our sliding door is a custom height of 12 FT, not a normal height, so using the extension included with the patio panel still doesn’t reach the top of the sliding door, which of course is not the problem of the manufacturer of this product. We remedied the problem by using and cutting to size a disposable hard foam cooler, fitted with a foam edge window and door sealer in order to eliminate cool and hot air from coming in and out. I currently own 2 doggy door slider inserts from a competitor brand. I got this PetSafe insert to replace one of my inserts that is worn out, and I am so glad I did! At first glance you can see that the PetSafe is far superior to my competitor door. Upon quick exploration, I could feel that the PetSafe door was much better quality. The PetSafe door itself is more substantial and heavy duty just off the bat. I like that spring-loaded panel at the top of the door is taller (than my competitor brand) so that it can accommodate more sizes of sliders. I have multiple different heights of sliders at my house so that gives me more options of doors for me to place the insert in. This is beneficial to me when I have a party for example because I can give my dogs indoor/outdoor access to a secluded part of my house when young children are over. The second part I really like is the extra security with the locking panel to close the doggy door. Whereas my competitor version only has a plastic lock that could easily be broken into by potential intruders, the PetSafe has a very secure metal pin lock. Third, I appreciate that this insert has a slight tint to it. My competitor version does not. When I open the doggy door in the early morning in my bedroom I "hook" my curtains around my original slider handle for my dogs to access the door and I go back to sleep. The tinting on this insert is at least some attempt to block out the daylight. Finally, I like that they include some weather striping to help combat some unwanted drafts. Although I would recommend to combo the weather stripping provided with foam weather stripping to really complete the seal. Overall, I highly recommend this PetSafe doggy door insert, their attention to detail is prevalent making their door superior to competitors.MamaBear34

I'm giving it three stars because it is working but for the price, I expected a higher-quality item. In some ways this unit is too thin for my patio door track and is floppy, and in other ways – specifically the attachment brackets and the door "latch" – it is too wide. I had to come up with another way to fix the panel in place, then insert foam tape because it kept flapping when the door was used or the wind blew too hard, and then buy separate security bars for the patio door. Not ideal. And I also plan that I will need to remove it if I leave for an extended period of time, as this thing is a serious security vulnerability in the home's perimeter now…not that most adults don't already fit through an extra large pet door opening. I wish this had a full closure panel – aluminum, hinged. Maybe I should have just made something custom since I can't cut a hole in the wall of my rental house for an electronic security dog door.Julie D

We are house-sitting our daughter's dog for a few months and needed a simpler way for the dog to get out of and into the house. This pet door device is adequate. My primary concern was that our home would no longer be lockable, but we were able to secure the door and device adequately. The biggest negative is that, although the dog is small on weights only 25 lbs. (well shy of the weight limit advertised), it is a tight squeeze for him to get through. We are glad we got it. Have had this door for 3 years and it's still going strong. was easy to install, but I have to replace the seal strip every year or so. Big enough door for my husky, but not too high for my miniature collie to get through. I have only encountered one problem, the flap is a bit on the loud side. First off, I bought the medium sized door (11×8), which is claimed to be for medium pets weighing up to 35 pounds. There would be no way a pet weighing that much could fit through the door. This size door is more for small pets (cats, which I have that weigh 10 to 15 pounds). So I made the right choice by going bigger. It's the perfect size for them, and they get through the door comfortably. A small door would have been a tight squeeze. I installed this pet door against the patio door that doesn't slide. That was the only way that made sense, and would also provide some form of security. Installing this against the sliding door would not work, would not seal, and would not lock. Buy yourself some extra weather stripping (the soft stuff). The hard weather stripping provided with this door is useless. Be prepared to improvise and buy extra hardware to actually make this door fit securely and work with the patio doors. My extra expenses were $35. All in all, I'd recommend the door, but be prepared to do a fair amount of work to make it fit securely. But still this is not buglar proof. It will be an easy access point for someone to break into your home. I don't see how this, or any pet door, could be made completely secure.Mensa8

We have not installed it in the door yet…but just looking at it, it looks sturdy and indestructible, which is good, because my dog literally eats and tears the doors with the flexible plastic. I have 7 dogs of varying sizes who use this door constantly. The only fault I find is that the rubber gaskets between the slats in the door wear out . Everything else lasts a very long time. I tweaked it by putting piano hinges between the slats and that has extended its use a lot. If I could buy just that part the door would last practically forever! I am in the middle of having a sliding glass door installation, and even though it isn’t quite done (trim work etc.) I was able to pull down the tension part on the PetSafe door and slip it in the track. The tension alone held it securely. I was able to easily slip it back down and take it out when they needed to work more. Obi, my mini schnauzer, was hesitant, but I am taping the flap up and using treats and he runs in and out the open flap. He is a smarty pants, and will get the flap soon. It does seem a bit stiff for him at his whopping 13 pounds! He thinks he is the cats pajamas to run in and out on his own. Thank you PetSafe, the bronze color even matches the new slider pretty well. Lifechanging! We were slaves to our pets and now laugh at the German Shepard who jumps in and out constantly. Our cats took a minute to overcome the heavy flap but are now using regularly. Even our blind chihuahua who is very timid has even become accustomed to it.Amanda

This is a great dog door. I bought it to replace a well used older PetSafe medium door. It took a little longer to install since my door already had a previous door. Mostly it required more trim and fitment time to install, if you have a good grinding tool or hand file set it will really help. The door slides easily in place without binding. It does flex just enough that if someone wanted to enter the house from outside with it closed they could open it. But it is not meant as a security device just to prevent kids and animals from getting out which it does well. It looks great installed, very flush to the door, seals out the drafts really well. All of my dogs including my small pug size mixed breed has no problems going in and out the door. I still need to seal the outside but I'm glad I bought this door.YaheeTech

After reading all of the reviews, the VERY common problem is the hinge. This is going to be my 3rd or 4th door and second to purchase (the sizable hole is hard to find a replacement for), most EVERYONE has had the exact same broken and weak point of the hinge. Some of these comments are from long enough ago, you would think that the company would look at the common problems and try and fix the issue. I've had this door for a year now, and after a year of modifying, and remodifying, I give. Simply not a great door for strong dogs. Our doberman broke the door out initially, it was put back in place. The 2nd time he broke it out some of the plastic fasteners broke off. My SO ended up modifying the door with an aluminum strip and all new hardware. It's been broken off several times even with the new modifications. The key backs fall off and we didn't end up using them anyways to begin with. The frame is solid, we got the wall kit which is flimsy and had to seal ourselves but nonetheless it's installed. I'd love to order another model that will fit the already permanent opening. As of current, our heat's turned off until we figure out what to do to fix the door. It's not strong enough for large dogs, they bust it right out!Bunnyfromdahood

Purchased the door about a month ago. We have 4 dogs ranging in size from 6.5 lb to 60 lb. All of them use the door even the little guy. The big dog did not need any training at all he instinctively new when it went click he could go! I was concerned about the reviews but it seemed to me that these were all very large dogs by height and the photos of the installs seemed low to me. I would recommend the product. No more getting up two or three times a night. YAAA I installed it myself, granted I am more of a handyman than most, but I am also over the 65 mark +. So I would expect the young bucks to do it even faster. But you do need to have a supply of the D cells. Batteries are not what they used to be and you only get about a month or a little less use. My insert is 5 years old now and still my dogs favorite. In the winters the UltraFlex 3 panel dog door keeps the cold out. Yes it does cut down the human passage, but its still very passable. Unless you have a non-standard sliding door.Stand77

It's functional – but takes away a good 4-6 inches in clearance space from the arcadia door. If you don't have a tremendously large arcadia sliding glass door – don't buy this. You're dog will have more room to get through the door than you do. Also, some of the pre-drilled holes weren't machined correctly and were too small for the screws that came with it. We had to drill them out a bit. Nothing huge, but could be very frustrating to someone who isn't handy with a drill/tools. The instructions could use some tweaking as well. The box comes with two (2) different sets of instructions. One looks to be a supplement to the other, and yet they don't cover all of the nuances. There's a third resource (YouTube video) to use as well – but that too doesn't warn you of perils should you attach the top half-backwards. Again, nothing huge and easy to realize/fix – but time consuming nonetheless. It's the little things like that "great" instructions benefit consumers. And the biggest peril – have two people! They show in the video and written manual a (presumed?) average housewife putting the door together. Mind you – this product is TOP HEAVY and mostly GLASS! You should have two people just for sheer safety sake when putting this together. It doesn't take much of a miscalculation to have that thing slide down the wall or forward/backwards if you're not careful. And not only will it break – but it's (again) super heavy and could hurt someone, and especially a pet if it was hanging around/curious about this new/cool gadget.MaverickTGS

The door is well made and easy to install. we bought the large bronze. Only problem we have is that we have 3 dogs and one is a pug, other two are big 80lb even though rated for 100lb dogs and I measured them, for out dogs was a little short., I fixed by adding a small block under raising it an inch. but the 4-5' rise really does work for small dog. The XL version may have been better. But only came in white and more expensive. Been a couple weeks now and the bigger dogs are doing great. Pug, we open the slider for him. Overall well made and works well. Just a matter of getting sized right. May not work as well when you have a mix of small and large dogs.RichardJ

This is the perfect entry and exit for your pets. We have a small dog, a full size pit and then a oversize pit and they all use the door with no issues. There is also a close off door that you can attach for when you leave for several days or when you don't want your pet outside.shirley.k

I moved houses and had a door just like this. I wanted the same type of swinging doors instead of flaps so I got the exact model that I had before. My dogs were used to it and it is a very good quality door. The first one we had was mounted on an exterior door. The new one is mounted on an exterior wall, and leads right into the dog run. Installation was not easy. According to the instructions all you need is a jigsaw and a screwdriver…HA! False! All in all it was a 10 hour project between my Engineer dad and me (Thank God I didn't attempt it by myself!) -Cosmetically 10 out 10 -Durability 10 out 10 -Ease of Use 10 out 10 -Cost 7 out 10 -Installation 4 out 10 I shopped around a long time for a quality dog door, and this was the best I could find. A month ago when I purchased my large Plexidor w/wall insert there were no reviews, so I was little leery to spend over $500 on a DOG DOOR! In the end I went with this door for security reasons. Every year my wife and I go on vacation for a week or more and we felt more secure with this door versus the plastic versions. Our old house had a plastic dog door and that was how we used to break in when locked out. It was so easy, and therefore easy for a burglar to break in, so we made the investment in this door mainly for security reasons. NOTE: Once we received our large Plexidor my 6ft 170lbs butt could crawl through it, therefore, if not locked so could anyone else. So when you leave for vacation…lock it. It secures fairly well. Installation: You will install the door side on the inside which leaves the recessed portion facing the exterior -making it really obvious that you have a dog door. My remedy is to build & place a dog house on the exterior side of the door; so no-one would ever see or know the dog door exists! It simply looks like the dog is going in & out of his dog house! Plus it could act as a "mud" room to help clean their paws before going into the house. I actually choose to install ours into the garage, especially after the first rain when I saw all of the wet paw prints all the floor from my 80lb black lab. I don't know how people keep the floors clean when installed into a living room? Since this is our third purchase, we obviously love this product. It is so nice to not have to let our dogs out and in several times during the day. The more dogs you have the better. Excellent and sturdy product; great instructions and easy to install in aluminum storm door. Had to build out inside frame of doggie door to compensate for thin aluminum door. May want to offer a storm door kit with 3/4" vinyl frame for this type of storm door. Nonetheless, our 75# Dobie flies in and out without any issue! This item is so flimsy that it cannot in any form be regarded as secure. I had to screw it into place because the twist tabs were not strong enough to hold it at the right height. We still didn't think it was strong enough so I bought a melamine panel to replace it. Thought at least I could sell it for $20. Alas no. As I took the screws out, it slid down so fast that the base snapped off.Tessa

First one I bought was faulty out of the box. The locking screws didn’t work. Bunnings replaced it and the second one the flap dropped off on my dogs back after 2 weeks. She’s a small bulldog and she has the medium door. She fits through the hole perfectly but the flap doesn’t seem to be secured properly. I’ll return it again I guess.Andreea

Awful product. Not worth the cost. Should have just purchased the more expensive version. Flap is tight and difficult for my labradors to fit through, no option to close of the flap if needed to lock the dogs out, the required extension is an additional cost and it doesn't sit flush in the door at all. Returned and exchanging for the Hartman should of stuck to the one I've used in the past. Don't bother trying.Chris
