I have ordered MANY dog beds in my lifetime but this one is the WORST one of all!! Why? The top "zip in" filler for the "armrest" is impossible to completely insert. I have YET to completely zip it in without nearly losing my breath because of the tugging, pulling, stretching, while TRYING to move the zipper! I thought I was in pretty good shape but putting in this armrest filler role is horrible. I would suggest the manufacturer use LESS filler or something but I would NEVER recommend this dog bed. Researched many dog beds before deciding on this one. We were using a round dog bed without bolsters and when at a friends she wouldn't get out of their bed with bolsters so knew we needed this style. The Memory foam is firm without being rock hard; soft fabric. I have a 65 lb golden retriever and the large (36×28) is perfect. Inside width about 28". K9 is the only dog bed I buy now. We have hunting dogs that are very tough on everything in their environment. 7 English setters. We started several years ago with one bed to see if it really could withstand the daily abuse from our crew. While they could not tear rip or even damage these beds we found they fought over them. Now each one of them have their own beds and they are in each kennel with their names on them. We did not even have to put name tags up since the names are so easy to see. Each dog know which bed belongs to them and They gladly run into kennels at night to sleep on orthopedic luxury. I rarely need to hose them off but all beds get a regular cleaning to freshen up. Sorry. Love the idea of this bed(we bought two!), but we have two dogs and both refuse to lay on these beds. Not sure if it is the fabric?— it makes a noise whenever the dogs move, the height? —it is several inches off the ground , or the firmness? – it is the firmest “memory foam” I have encountered. Or maybe it’s all three. Both dogs cower when they see the bed. I try to give them treats in the bed— they have their tail between their legs like the bed is punishment. To show you how large this bed is, behold our 9-year-old 220LB GREAT DANE! He still has room to spare! He loves the bed and it supports his hips really well. We bought both the bolster and rectangle orthopedic beds. The beds are very well made & much easier to change than his older beds. My only regret is the cover. The only color that wouldn't totally clash with our furniture was the grey and it is made of velvet, so his hair sticks to it. Also you can see drool spots when they dry. My two dogs, who are very particular about laying on blankets and pillows, both gravitated to this bed as soon as I put it out for them. I ordered this after my 60lb Golden girl refused to leave my sister’s Golden’s bed over the holidays. My sister told me where she got it and I ordered my girl one immediately! It is a nice thick bed with a very soft cover. I got the beige/cream color, which has a little bit more yellow tinge to it than I’d like, but it still matches our home decor & her hair color the best out of the options. Not sure why but they're two small dogs and prefer to share one big bed their last one was soft and fluffy this one is harder and maybe that's it. The first night of sleeping on this bed was the best night for me…why…because He didn't wake me up until 9am instead of 7:30 am to go out to potty. The "cooling" side of the mattress is a lie. I know how cooling mattresses looks like and yours just have the color but not a cooling layer. My dog is very hot in his new bed during hot days and sleeps on the floor. Therefore, I feel cheated for having paid almost $50 for this bed. Also, the cover material is synthetic which naturally created heat and on top of a synthetic sponge creates a really too hot environment for my dog. The material is slippery so my elderly dog can hardly get up. The only reason I gave two stars is that the shape and height are good. Still, sizes you provide are inadequate and not a reflection of dog needs which is strange when Furheaven is in this business. My Yorki is a normal size. Yet, when I bought small which you recommend according to the size and weight chart as well as the sleeping area measurements you provided,he can fit well provided he is all the time in something like a fetus position and he doesn't move much. He cannot stretch or lie down in such a way so as to have at least an inch of space between himself and the sides of the bed. Dogs sometimes sleep in a stretched position and do need some extra space. Dogs also move during the sleep, swirl around, wiggle. So I had to get him a medium size which is really too big for him and the space where we keep it in our apartment but I am happy he has some extra space. Humans don't sleep in beds which are exactly their size. Standard beds even if a twin size have some extra space on all four sides because nobody stays in one position during the night. Why would it be any different for dogs especially when it's known that they sleep most of the time. I don't get it.Zenja B.
We absolutely LOVE this bed!!! It is extremely well made with separate zippered compartments for the bolster and bed padding. This makes it very easy to wash the cover and not the padding. I highly recommend the "Convoluted Orthopedic Foam" Mattress. As we live in California where the weather is warmer, the "Quilted" Cover material has been perfect all year round. This is actually our second bed that we bought. The first bed we bought for our an older dog who was starting to get arthritis and have back issues. Bought two of these beds for our beagles to sleep in our RV. Quality is great, and dogs have plenty of room in them to move around, stretch out, and get comfortable. (Bought size medium). Fabric seems to be very durable and will hopefully clean well when needed. Only complaint is the noise the fabric or material makes when the dogs move around. (Kind of loud and scratchy). Not a big deal during the day, but hopefully not too much noise at night when we want to sleep – since we are all in the RV together! Even though we didn't end up keeping this bed, we had a wonderful experience ordering from (and returning to) K9 Ballistics. We had ordered this and it looked a bit small for my dog. We covered it with a blanket to protect it and he wasn't really able to fit inside comfortably. It was clearly a very high quality bed and no doubt it would have stood up to daily use for years. I hated to return it but it just wasn't a good fit. Awesome bed. Bought this for my older dog (9-1/2) after we got rid of her doggie "bunk bed" because it was getting harder on her arthritis to go up and down the stairs. The orthopedic base sounded like it would be good for her. Although we have a second dog, her son (age 6), he often sleeps on our bed or on the couch so we didn't get one for him. Now, it's kind of like – whoever gets there first gets the bed for the night and the other one sleeps somewhere else. I have spent so much money on dog beds and crates for my dogs. They chewed through every plastic crate tray, then multiple plush dog beds, then some stuffed beds that were said to be indestructible. We tried 3 of the other K9 ballistic beds. The first bed was a gift from a co worker, she was able to get it replaced, but they just tore that up as well. I went and purchased another through Amazon with the metal edges. They couldn't chew through the edges but they did dig through the middle of it and pull the stuffing out. Customer service recommended the Elevated Rip-Stop bed and I waited over a month to make sure that it held up to my pups. Sure enough, this one has been a winner!!! The shipping was amazing! I got the replacement bed in just a few days. The customer service was top notch. Their recommendation was perfect. I would highly recommend this product and this company. I do suggest that you know your dogs and perhaps consult with customer service to make sure you get the right one. Over the last two years I have purchased a chew proof armored cot, I was so impressed that my 8 week old ASD couldn’t chew or destroy in some way that I ordered him a bolstered bed for his one Year birthday. The bolster bed is absolutely amazing completely 100% indestructible and so comfortable! We brought home my new Kangal puppy two weeks ago for my birthday and she claimed my boys cot by the third day. I’ve had large and giant breeds for 40 years and the dog beds I have gone through could probably claim it’s own section at the landfill not to mention the constant replacement cost!! Thanks guys for making the absolute best beds and cots out there. You truly have a customer for life and everyone I talk to I refer them to K9 Ballistics!!! There is something to be said for the statement: “You get what you pay for” and those people that see the price and go oh that’s expensive have never added up how many beds and blankets they have already gone through….
This bed has been a game changer! I adopted Poppy (43 lbs lab/retriever mix) from a local rescue about 8 weeks ago. She just turned 1 yr old and is an aggressive chewer. Everything I put in her kennel was shredded by the end of the day and I was at my wit’s end and had run out of old towels etc to put in her kennel. I ordered this bed and it fits perfectly inside her kennel. I’ve suggested this bed to my neighbor that has a young male Aussie because he literally eats the plastic trays that go in the bottom of his kennel. (That can’t be good for the gut 😱) He had to order a metal kennel tray and that can’t be comfortable 😞. I honestly feel this bed will last Poppy a lifetime and hopefully she will outgrow her desire to chew up anything soft, until then, I’m confident she can be in her kennel while I’m at work and won’t choke on towels/blankets while I’m gone. My dog always tears his crate pads into pieces. I used to patch them like crazy. I bought a big dog bed from K9 for both of my dogs over Christmas and it is still in awesome condition, so I was definitely ready to order from them again. So for my second order I bought the Tough Dog Crate Pad. It lasted for a couple months but then he managed to get a hole in it and started tearing it apart from there. It definitely held up better, but once he got to the stuffing I knew it was over. K9 was awesome and gave me a full credit to apply to a different bed. I chose this one as a replacement and it is GREAT. I think because it's thicker than the crate pad, it's more durable and harder for him to get his mouth around. The fabric is durable but the bed is also cushioned for comfort. I highly recommend this mattress, and this company!Christine
We have two German Shepherds that have tended to shred beds after about a week. For the longest time we had resorted to providing just a ruminate piece of carpet in their crates so they were not laying on just the plastic pan. As they are getting older we really wanted to find a bed that would provide cushion and support for their aging bodies. Having had our eye on the K9 ballistics beds for a while, but not quite ready to spend the asking price, we finally purchased two orthopedic crate mats for our pups. When they arrive the craftmanship and materials exceeded expectations. After allowing the beds to come to their full size for a few hours we put them in their crate. There was some digging and scratching at them- but the beds were unscathed. Later that evening the two of them looked so comfortable and content and it felt so good to know they had cushion that they were not going to destroy and potentially ingest. They have had their beds for about a week now and other than some hair on them they look as good as new. It seems they will have their beds for a long time. I love that the cover comes off and that there is another waterproof cover for the mattress. For outside dogs this is extremely nice and important to be able to clean the cover and know the mattress has been protected.Caleb W.
I have a Husky pup who is now about 1 year. He destroys pretty much everything and anything he comes into contact with unless he's had a good 3-5 hours playing and wrestling with dogs, long doggie playdates, or a good hike. When he calms down he likes his crate. However, if he is laying "still" anywhere, he will still find a way to destroy things being a chewer. He has destroyed every bed I've bought, and has partially destroyed a couch he's allowed on. With this bed, so far so good. It's still intact. He didn't destroy it in the first 5 minutes, and so far, no signs of damage. So far 5 stars. I'll contact the company if he destroys it. I had purchased a non-destructible bed in the past for my dogs, and never had a problem. I purchased one just a couple of weeks ago and my 10-month-old puppy chewed 2 holes in the cover. They sent me a replacement cover. Then I noticed that my puppy had also chewed two holes in the bed itself. I explained several times what had happened and sent the pictures they requested. They said they were too big to open. They told me to take a screen shot of the pictures and send them that way, which I did. Still, they said they couldn't open. After several emails back and forth, they denied giving me a store credit for the bed or replacing the bed. As far as I'm concerned, they have misrepresented their product and falsely advertised a Rip-proof cover and bed. I am also contacting the BBB and anyone else I can think of. I am so disappointed with the way that I have been treated, and I will definitely let my friends and family know so they don't fall for the same scam.
I have four dogs and I've ordered a few of these beds over the years. The dogs love the soft covers and soft mattresses and they are very nice, high quality beds, but I have one rescue dog from an abused background that chews on his bed when he gets nervous. The only time he is nervous is when I'm teaching yoga at my house and I have to keep him inside (I teach outside near the front door). He doesn't like not knowing what's going on while there are people at the house I suppose. He completely tore one of the soft covers off and pulled out a bunch of the stuffing, and tore up half of another cover. I ordered the "rip stop" and he chewed that one too, plus it's not soft so the dogs don't like laying on it. He's destroyed 4 beds so far. The only reason I've been able to salvage some of the covers is because I put the beds away while I teach yoga. Obviously I wish he wouldn't chew on the beds, but I'm disappointed about the chew proof bed. I'm pretty sure he chewed it while it was still under the warranty, but we live outside the USA so I can't return them once I get them here and pay import duty. I'm just going to go for cheap dog beds until I can figure out how to calm his anxiety down.
This is going to be a strange review. Our 10-month old, persistent chewer of a Vizsla / Staffordshire Terrier mix was able to bite and open this chew proof crate bed within 15 minutes. It may have been sooner, but that's the amount of time that I left her alone in her crate after putting and securing this crate bed to her crate. Strangely enough, I actually do believe that this crate bed is the real deal. 99% of the crate bed held up and was pretty tough and gave her a run for her money. However, she was able to tear into the crate bed by going after one of the 4 loops that you use the supplied tie wraps in to secure the bed to the interior frame of the crate. Now, I'm actually shocked that they did not make the loops out of the same material that they made the entire crate bed in. This is a simple flaw in the design. My guess is that, the makers never suspected that a dog could even get enough of her teeth in there to bite or pull on any of those loops to make a difference. And I really tied that tie wrap to the inner corners of the crate very well. But she got enough of her teeth on one loop to expose the flawed design. Once that gave way and tore, she was able to continue to bite through the material exposing the innards and that was that. I do plan to get another one though and modify some things in order to make it work. I hate writing bad reviews, but this is one with a caveat. I actually still support this crate bed enough to get another one. Too bad I'm out $90 within seconds and with no way to return it back to K9 Ballistics. Back to the drawing board.Frank J.

My dog seems to like the bed, I do love how thick the dog bed is. The only minor thing was the large size was a little smaller than our existing large dog bed. My dog Shamira is not able to stretch out her full body, but I would recommend if your dog is at least 60 lbs. and up, buy the XL bed especially since the bed is sitting higher. I was hesitant to order a bed online because you can't really tell the quality of it and I didn't want to pay a fortune for junk. Then a sale came along as well as an additional coupon and it was a deal that I couldn't really pass up. Fortunately, the risk paid off. This bed is fantastic. It really is as described. I could sleep on it, and it's huge. I noticed some people complaining about the noise when your dog moves, but honestly, I don't even notice it most of the time. I got the XLarge 54" x 36" for my Great Pyrenees and she loves it. I was worried it wouldn't be big enough for her, but it seems to work out just fine – even if she stretches out. She's 13, so she's a old girl with arthritis.Her old bed did not survive our move, so we got this one (which frankly, did not even come close to the quality of this one). We've had it a week and already she seems to be getting around better. She really hasn't left it since. She's on the lighter side for a pyr at only 80 lbs, but the bed does not collapse with her weight. I weigh twice that and it supports me if I lie on it as well. 🙂 If I had anything to complain about, it would be the shipping/packing. The box was almost collapsed/destroyed and virtually open when it arrived. Other than that, I'm very happy with the purchase.smileyriley

I bought this for my lab-ish dog who is getting up there in years and isn't as comfortable on the floor. She LOVES it! It is big enough that she can sleep in a ball or stretch all the way out. The memory foam in the bottom takes 24 hours to expand before it goes in the bed. it is so thick and high quality. Very thick padding on bottom of bed. It is actually several inches thick. Even with me sitting in it, I can't feel the floor. I think this would be great for older dogs due to the thick padding on base. The padding comes separate from the bed and when you unroll it, it increases in size. To assemble it, you just zip it in the bottom. The bottom base is rectangular and covers the whole entire bed at the bottom so no part of your dog is ever touching the hard ground. The bed is surrounded by thick bolsters and pretty flexible that the sides will move out if you dog wants to curl up or if they touch against the sides. My dog likes to use the side cushions as a head rest. I got the medium size for my dog who is a ~33lbs Shiba Inu. He's pretty big for his breed but it fits him perfectly when he decides to roll up in it and also he likes sleeping in it with his head up. Overall, its a great dog bed for a dog that likes to be snugged up and I think would be very supportive if your dog had hip/joint issues. This bed is very well made and my dog loves it! I have a 80lb lab mix who is starting to have hip issues. He likes to stretch out. The reviews/size guide indicated he would fit the large. I got the XL because he is pretty sprawly in our bed (we have a king). It is perfect for him. If your dog sleeps curled up, you can go with the large but for someone who stretches out this was perfect and the bed itself is not ridiculously oversized.AJPP
I had purchased the older version of this bed a few years ago (not from here thank gawd) it was amazing went to find another and found this which seems to be updated version. Well FINALLY got it (tractor supply cheap and doesnt pay for wknd delivery) the cover is so rough and not soft at all and what its sad is the arms are not attached.(so i could have planned for the extra space would have been nice to know. as much money as this costs as i first time customer i will be a last time customer.TC95
I have been through numerous beds and this one by far is the best. I was looking for something that wouldn't wear down and get flattened from use within mths. I was also looking for a waterproof liner as our Dane sometimes has accidents at night. This bed is just like a human mattress and the foam is lined to keep accidents out. Many beds have uncomfortable material that is used for the waterproofing, this bed has regular material for comfort where the dog lays and has a separate soft layer of waterproofed material around the foam mattress. Both can be taken off easily and washed. My dog loves her new this is a size Medium but there wasn’t that option to select on Influenster. The bed comes just like those beds in a box that expand once you take them out. It says it can take up to 3 days before it’s fully expanded but it seemed to expand completely within an hour or two. The cover is removable to wash. For reference my dog is 23 pounds and a Mini Schnauzer. The bed is perfect for her size. Perfect size for our 95 pound Golden Retriever. The outer fabric is denim and very durable and washable. Inner waterproof liner protects memory foam. Our dog is very rough on her beds…she likes to pick up and shake and toss her beds around. This bed is heavy and not easily tossed. I think it will last her a long time. Very pleased with the purchase. It arrives in a small package because the memory foam expands upon opening.redhead
