It’s incurable and usually tears up the edges of the ear from constant cell overgrowth (auto immune) and dogs will be plagued with constant ear issues and itching. I've always liked Zymox products, but this one really impressed me! GSD/BC mix has had continual ear issues since having a hematoma drained in her right ear. The ear lays over and is full of thicker tissue which seems to hold in a ton of moisture. This last bout of pain and scratching was making her (and me!) absolutely crazy and, after a week of use, the regular Zymox I always have on hand just wasn't cutting it. our 5 month old collie had a lot of ear wax, so we gave him a bath and used this ear cleaner during his bath and his ears are clean and fresh. It has a very faint odor, is dye and paraben free. He didn't seem to mind us squirting it in his ear, but he did shake after (he was in the middle of a bath). It is in a light small tube with a nozzle you trim off and squeeze the bottle to squirt. It has been about 2 weeks since using the products and his ears are still clean and smell fine. I think if you are concerned with ear odor for your pet, you should first see a vet because sometimes they get yeast in their ear and it may need to be medicated with an antifungal ointment. It didn't work better than the standard cat ear cleaners. I used it almost daily for two weeks or so. I rescued a dog. He had bad ear mites, took care of those with mineral oil. Took him to a vet and for the same old make money bit, he had an ear infection. So, he got antibiotics orally. Then he kept showing signs of pain, itching etc..,but the smell let me know from his ears he had a bad yeast infection. Being a nurse I tried several home remedies to no avail. I looked around online for something non prescription and not expensive that would have something to kill yeast. Dr. Gold's has ketoconazale. I have four dogs, the most recent being a Saint Bernard. While I knew floppy eared dogs had more of a risk of ear infections, I didn't really think a Saint Bernard's ears were that floppy. Well after two ear infections that I went to the veterinarian for meds, I talked to a longtime Saint Bernard owner who said they keep their own personal supply of ear meds on hand. My cat has had a chronic ear issue for the past year or so, has developed acute swelling in his face and most recently suddenly developed a large lump under the affected ear. He has been treated by the vet w/ various meds and is on Prednisone. Everything tried has only worked temporarily and his ear and sinus infections have become chronic. He is 15 and the vet doesn't give hm much chance at improving. He has had various allergy issues most of his life. Regular ear cleanings by the vet seemed to improve his condition, so when I found out about Zymox I decided to give it a try. Well, after 7 days of treatment, the lump has all but disappeared and his sinuses are finally draining, reducing the swelling in his face ! I chose Zymox Hydrocortisone free because of all the meds he's been bombarded with, will treat him for 14 days to see where this takes us, but am VERY optimistic ! The vet is impressed and since he knows about Zymox, am disappointed he didn't recommend it sooner. The only problem now is he had gone off his food and I have been finger feeding him as well as spritzing water into his mouth. He had lost 2lbs from refusing food, but seems to be bouncing back. Any suggestions for the loss of appetite possibly brought on by the fact he may not be smelling as well and eating may have become difficult from the sinus issue ? My American Bulldog suffers from allergies and constant ear infections. I thought I would give this a try since it was all natural. Apparently it's one more thing he is allergic to. Red, burning ears, blisters everywhere inside, shaking his head all night. He could laydown at all. He was in so much pain, I felt horrible. I clean my cocker's ears every 7 to 10 days with ear wash and use the non-alcohol canine ear wipes a couple of times a week for maintenance but every few months she'll get stinky, yeasty ears. My vet has prescribed several different treatments but none have worked as well as the Surolan drops. On day 3 she stopped scratching and rubbing them and by day 4 the smell was completely gone. After the 7 day treatment was completed I cleaned them out really good and to my surprise there was very little discharge. Ordered this product after doing research online for what I was SURE was an ear infection in our American bulldog, but was hesitant to get another large vet bill after a recent eye injury that left us $500 in the hole.
