I like Midwest products as the metal seems to be stronger and last longer than other brands. I have the original ex-pen I bought around 1995 – it's survived 50+ large dogs. I prefer them to crates as the dogs have more room to move around, yet they are easily configured to a smaller shape when potty training. They easier to clean than crates. They fold flat and I can store them next to a fridge or behind a furnace. They work indoors/out and are great mobile containment. For dogs living in fenceless areas (condos) ex-pens can be linked using carabiners/bolt snaps (i.e., dog leash clips) for fencing moveable for mowing/snow removal. They are great for patio surrounds. You can buy metal tops for if a dog needs more containment, but most won't if using a tall enough ex-pen. I've also bought just the metal or plastic crate pans to put under the ex-pen if needed. To keep the ex-pen from falling or being moved if I have a rambunctious pup I bungee the corners to furniture or door knobs.HannahB

do NOT use for kittens. i brought one for my kitten and he's now known as the escaping. he climbed and jumped over the gate. when i fixed that, he twisted his head and got through one of the holes. i fixed that as well and he's still somehow getting out. if you are wondering how i "fixed" that, i used mesh wiring. this product probably works great with dogs, but cats are a different story.uzziah

Got it when it was 20 bucks cheaper. But it came early and was easy to set up. Reason for purchase is becuase I will be out of state for the summer and the person whom will be babysitting doesnt want her on the sofa and using the bathroom on the floor. Product is not the same as the playpen I ordered a few months ago, even though the order was placed as a "reorder". The firsrt playpen worked well but the zippers wore out after a few months use. I went to my account and reordered item thinking it would be the same but this one has a flimsy bottom that attaches with some small velcro patches, even velcro completely on the bottom might work better. the puppy I put in it got out in less than thirty min. because of the sloppy w the floor section was put together. it seems extremeley stupid to put 8 very small Velcro pieces on the floor piece 7 & expect it to hold when there are ripples in the spaces between the Velcro large enough for just about any size dog to put its head through. I have some strong hold Velcro so I am going to correct the problem. for the price it was an ok buy & I can repair the problem. After receiving this playpen and setting it up – found a small hole in the side. I was very disappointed, since we had just purchased a 8wk old puppy. I was desperate for someplace to put her to while I worked/or cleaned the house. I didn't want to put her in a small kennel and really thought this product would be my answer. We decided to keep the pen and try to fix the hole. I know Walmart would have taken the product back…but I was not sure the next one would be any better. AND the pen had a terrible odor. Strong chemical smell. I sprayed it with Febreze and set it outside in the sun for the entire day. Smell is much better…but you can still smell it somewhat. Wish it came in a larger diameter, but I think the 38 will work for now. The puppy will only be about 4 pounds when I get her but will grow to be 8-10 pounds, so the pen should give her enough room to play until she is trained. I bought the pink one for my 3 month old American cocker spaniel and it was definitely not a good choice. It's cute and the color is nice but it's too easy for the sides to cave in and if your dog or cat is super crazy, they can actually move this around the floor like a hamster ball. This is probably fine for small, inactive puppies, dogs, kittens or cats. It's spacious enough for a sedentary furry friend. My active Doberman is recovering from a spinal injury and needs to be confined. This pen is perfect. The quality is top-notch, with plenty of clear and illustrated instructions that are really not even necessary as it's so simple to set up. My one and only quibble is that the box opened nearly the full length of the side during shipping. I think the packing tape gave way. All parts were intact and nothing was damaged so just FYI. I'm now going to buy another one of these for the back yard. I was going to transport this one in and out rather than spend the money since it's (I'm hoping) not a life-long need, but while it's so easy to fold and move, it is pretty heavyweight (42") so it'd be a bit of a chore for me to do often. She's never been a jumper, especially not now, and I don't leave her alone outside so I could easily go with a lower height that's less expensive and more portable (keep in the shade) for the yard.jacy

My wife and I purchased this affordable product as a way to curtail a new litter of kittens before they became active and began exploring their new world. The package arrived quickly and essentially there was no assembly required. The only minor modification we had to undertake was adding a six inch piece of cardboard to the bottom by using tie-wraps to prevent the small kittens from sticking their heads through the 4” gaps of the fencing. We especially liked the ability to shape the enclosure in any manner we desired as the mother and her kittens are sharing our garage with our Camaro in our garage. I really wished that it had a door, but other than that it serves its purpose! I used it as a sort of gate for the driveway to keep my dog from going out when we were in the front yard. Used the clips to latch onto the existing gate and wedged the other side in-between the fence (like a sliding door(?) and it held up well. Love that’s it’s washable. I got the medium and it’s a great size. Good for in and out doors. I know some said for indoors the dogs would flip it. Which I have a 4lb puppy that does just that. But I zip the top and she uses it like a hamster ball to get around. It’s actually quite entertaining for us lol. Also with saying she’s a puppy she tends to chew.. there are a few snags in the mesh but she hasn’t managed to put any holes in it. Finger crossed. All in all it’s perfect for what I needed to to do. do NOT use for kittens. i brought one for my kitten and he's now known as the escaping. he climbed and jumped over the gate. when i fixed that, he twisted his head and got through one of the holes. i fixed that as well and he's still somehow getting out. if you are wondering how i "fixed" that, i used mesh wiring. this product probably works great with dogs, but cats are a different story.uzziah

This is a perfect size to put your small dog or puppy for exercise and poop runs. I have a mini pug puppy and needed a safe place to put her so she can run around and learn to poop for now on the pads. She's too small for outside. I love it. Note the 4 panels will not collapse onto each other without removing the corner pegs but it WILL fold to "two panels" in length. Will likely purchase two extra panels. This is a good product, simple to assemble and works as advertised for our 5 pound terrier. Went for the large so there is room for a bed and a wee mat. Product is bulky to ship and came damaged and missing the connectors to hold it together. I solved the problem with cable ties until the vendor shipped me the connectors. They responded well to the issue and shipped me the missing bits. It doesn't have a lid and I didn't want one, but we do put 2 large beach towels over it at night to make it quieter and darker. I ordered this pet pen because I desperately needed something for my puppy to keep her safe while I’m busy doing things at home. I loved how it looked online. Spacious and modern & loved that it was metal bars and not plastic. BUT, once it arrived, the package was damaged. Once I opened it, I noticed all the hardware to put it together was missing. And the floor tray was cracked in a corner. I was so upset because I needed to use this ASAP! The plastic tray is very flimsy as well. Expected a lot more for the price!Ange1086
We bought this pen for our rabbit and it arrived in a box torn in multiple places and the pieces were sticking out. It also did not come with any instructions or dowel-type things to insert in the corners so it falls over with a light touch. It also has a scratch on the side and a bent rod. We can’t return it as the box arrived ruined and it is far too heavy to carry to a store. We are probably just gonna find something to fill the corners but it is saddening that this cost almost 300$. We were so excited as this had great reviews but it was very disappointing 🙁EM

I got a taller size than would be suggested for a dog that small, because I don’t want to worry about him jumping out. I needed a more secure and smaller spot for him to go potty. I have bought innumerable similar wire-panel pens over the years from Petco and other sellers, but I have never seen one made of such small-gauge wire. Once you or your dog pushes even a bit against a panel, it warps too easily. Then the gate is hard to line up to close. Also, better quality products have a long rod that can be removed to rearrange the panels and change the location of the gated piece. Not these, there is not even a metal clasp between panels like in the product pictures, just interlocked end loops of the panel wire that can't be undone or changed.35Brian56

I love everything about this dog pen, except that one of the panels was missing the upper hinge. I did not want the hassle and wastefulness of returning the entire large and heavy item. I tried to see if I could just get a single replacement panel, but I don't know how to do that. I guess I will just keep it and only use 7 of the panels *Sigh* (If anyone can get a single panel replacement – please let me know!) The raised gate is perfect for not rubbing on the floor and scratching it up. the panels are not too heavy I could construct the pen easily. I love that there are different shapes that you can make with the panels, depending on your space available. If I could give zero stars I would. It has rusted so badly HUGE FLAKES fall off of it. Not only is it now unattractive I worry about the health of my dog. The rust is merely from getting wet from his water bowl and a squirt bottle. I have used this to host puppy playdates over 2 years. Cannot be happier with purchase. My front yard is not completely fenced; There was a need to fence off, but not permanently as we use front yard for other purposes. Fences are flexible, can be set up in any figures as needed. Once I figure out where to put fences, it takes 10 mins to set up, 10 mins to take down. I initially bought 2 sets, and neighbors and friends praised, and we had so many puppy visitors. That led me to buy 1 more set so the playpen could be bigger. Despite I have 3x sets, once taken down, they store nicely in small tight space on the side of house. Each set comes with 1 panel with a door. Since I have 3x sets, I have 3x panels with door. I set up door fences on three sides of yard for convenience. Summer days, we had playpen every evening. Throughout year, we hosted playpen for every possible occasions; puppy birthday, anniversary, holidays, new puppy debut… We initially worried that some dogs might jump out and run away, but that never happened. Dogs are capable, but wanted to stay inside for fun. We actually had dogs jump in. If you need to just hold puppies around 1 – 3 months, you could buy 1 set. But, if you are planning any meaningful puppy playdate, you will need minimum 2 sets, most likely 3or 4.
