The smell is kind of off putting. I’ve smelled better pet tooth paste that was more appealing to pets. However, my cat is willing to let me brush his teeth with some bribery. I’ve used my finger like it says for first time brushers, (it came with a tooth brush and finger cap) and noticed i could feel some of the plague coming off his teeth as I was brushing. He doesn’t drool as much anymore either so this is really helping. The finger cap it came with is a bit big for a cats mouth so id prefer my finger over it. We use this for our cat. She is older, and has bad teeth. Her breath was getting pretty bad. We have to brush her teeth periodically. I really love this little spray for my dog’s not-so-fresh breath. She’s a little dachshund and they, like most little dogs, are known for having a terrible bacteria level in their saliva. If you want to jeopardize your dog having seizures and kidney failure then use this product. Our 15 year old Dachshund drank this for a month and starting having seizures, muscle weakness, not eating, and the beginning stages of kidney failure. Our dog has suffered from stinky breath forever even though she gets her regular vet cleanings, and we were using another tooth treatment. She’s a beagle / shitzu / pug mix, so she is already genetically doomed in the tooth area anyway, so I’ve always been concerned with her dental health and worried about it leading to other health issues. So I have some reservations about this product. If you search other reviews across the internet, you get insane reports about this potentially causing seizures /epileptic episodes, wasting away, eye problems, all kinds of crazy stuff. However, it also does have a fair amount of people preaching that it's legit. The potential side effects are SEVERE, and it doesn't seem like the brand has done much to mitigate those cases or fears?? Knowing all that, I chose to use this for my cat with extreme caution. He gets stinky breath from whenever he eats fish based products (extreme common for cats) but the reason why I'm willing to take any of those risks is because it honestly reminds me of Accutane. I've never had to use Accutane myself, but I know that 1) It's a last resort 2) It is practically guaranteed to work 3) Side effects range from IBS to infertility /severe birth defects. So… my cat's halitosis isn't that severe to illicit the full dose. I use roughly half to a third of the recommended amount in his water fountain (which I highly recommend getting if you don't have one). So at a very low dose, his bad breath has indeed been kept at bay and I monitor his status very closely. This product works, I just strongly recommend using the lowest effective dose (just like with any human medication) and if your pet's breath is so dang stanky you feel like they need the full dose, I highly recommend exhausting all your other options first / supplementing with proper hand toothbrushing / diet changes. It’s my fault for not reading the ingredients before ordering but I think I assumed with it being on Grove. The toothpaste has parabens in it which is disappointing. I purchased this tube from Chewy.com for my Sheltie. I've been brushing his teeth since he came home as a baby, and he also gets Plaqueoff in his food. The breed is notorious for dental issues, so I'm hoping to keep things at bay by being proactive with his dental health. Petsmile interested me because I saw that this was the only toothpaste with the VOHC seal–so I opted to try it. He doesn't seem to be in love with the flavor, which I took a shot on, but it's not bothering his gums or his stomach. He has some tooth staining, which this paste hasn't really removed, but I have noticed some small bits of plaque on his smaller bottom teeth is now gone, by about half. I brush his teeth every night, so other than adding this paste into our routine, I'm inclined to think that's what finally dissolved that tartar. Yay! I wish Petsmile offered every flavor in a smaller tube, though, because even though this was pricey, it was still cheaper than the $25 standard tube. I also am keeping my fingers crossed for a vanilla or mint flavor will become available, because my boy loves vanilla so much. I currently use a USDA organic dog toothpaste, which is cinnamon flavored, but it doesn't have the VOHC seal, nor the enzyme technology. However, he loves that flavor! I actually brush with the cinnamon flavored paste, then apply the Petsmile as a finisher, because it'll sit in his mouth all night and I do like the fact that brushing with this isn't necessary. We have been using this toothpaste for about 6 months, after having to spend $$$+ on specialty dental care. They had a follow up exam this week, and got an A from their veterinarian dentist. He commented that he rarely sees actual improvement- but both of our senior dogs did improve “vastly” after 6 months of daily use. I ordered this months ago after checking the list of VOHC-approved dental products. I've always brushed my dogs teeth and, although this product is expensive, it's the only VOHC-approved toothpaste. I notice a difference in teeth cleanliness and am looking forward to the dogs next annual veterinary visit. My Pekingese dog had really bad tartar on his teeth which covered by dark brown color. I was afraid I had to take him for a dental cleaning. After adding the rinse to the water bowl, his teeth are white now. It is amazing! The price is very good, too. I would recommend it for small dogs.Binh

We got this on Amazon for my two schnauzers and I brush their teeth with this every night. The toothbrush provided is meant for medium size dogs and for the back teeth. I use my finger and a little toothpaste for the front teeth as it’s harder to use the brush there. I use this for my pup and we've outgrown the little finger brush so we use just the toothbrush. Winston doesn't mind the gel and will actually try to lick it off the brush before it gets in his mouth. He probably thinks it's a treat or something! I haven't done such a good job on brushing their teeth. The starting point is to find a quality toothpaste for my dogs. After using, "Vet's Best" Nature's Health Care, Dental Gel Toothpaste, I think it is indeed, a quality toothpaste. The toothpaste's ingredients were formulated by a Veterinarian using a combination of natural ingredients. Those ingredients include Neem oil, baking soda, grapefruit seed extract, aloe and enzymes. My older dog hasn't had her teeth brushed in a good while. This will be the first time for my younger dog. I know it will take some time to get them use to this routine so, I plan to brush their teeth at least 2-3 times a week. Some dog owners brush their dog's teeth everyday. You will have to make that decision yourself. My older dog's gums bled a little more than I expected. Therefore, everyday is not a good idea for her until this bleeding stops. I am going to be honest, who brushes their dogs teeth? Well I can tell you, that from here on out we will be. Everyone who owns a dog knows the love when that hot dog breath blasts in your face. The smell is that of food mixed with morning breath. It’s nice if this kid comes with everything that you need to brush your down his teeth: the brush the paste, and the little finger tip thing. I would recommend letting the dog lick some from the fingertip thing first before trying to brush. This allows them to get used to the taste which makes brushing super easy.traci.l

My dog gets dental cleanings with his vet, but between cleanings, I noticed his breath start to get stinky and yellow stuff on his back teeth. Our vet recommended a dental water additive for our pets. The dog likes mint so I figured he would like it fine. However the two cats can be picky and I worried they would stick their nose up at it. Nope, they're fine with it too. As a bonus, because our dog likes mint he's been drinking more water since we started using this a couple months ago.
