My dog went a few days with excessive "goop" from his eyes. Since my dog hasn't had a history with this, and doesn't seem to have seasonal allergies, the vet suggested an antimicrobial for the eye irritation and I went with this ophthalmic gel based on the luck I've had with other Vetericyn products in the past. I started with a tiny drop on the corner of my dog's eye to be sure he wouldn't have any reaction to it. Later that day, I went ahead and applied a few drops in each of his eyes. I applied the gel two times a day for three days in a row and by the fourth day his eyes had stopped having discharge. It is almost like my dog knew the drops would make him feel better as he kept his head very still when I applied the gel to his eyes. The shape of the dispenser where you squeeze the product out of makes it very easy to apply the gel to their eyes. While it is a "gel," it comes out of the dispenser fairly quickly which I find allows for an accurate application. The gel-like substance is great to confirm that you got the gel where you want it to go. Went out one morning and caught a glimpse of what looked like a little scratch on my horses eye. Upon inspection the eye itself was untouched but the eyelid was cut about an inch long from the back corner towards the front. I cleaned it and figured I would just leave it alone. The next morning it was itchy and irritating her and REALLY swollen. I cleaned her up, applied the Vetericyn ophthalmolic gel, and put a patch over her eye to keep her from rubbing it and repeated this 4 times that day and removed the patch that evening to let it air. By the next morning all the swelling had completely subsided and it was no longer irritating her! My gelding looks like a yak by the time spring arrives as he gets more than a winter coat. It's as though he's wearing a rug. Ever since I adopted my little Angel a few months ago, I've wanted to get rid of her overly flaky coat and large amount of shedding. My vet first prescribed the standard fatty acid capsules. They were too large to administer by themselves and with pill pockets. Squeezing the liquid into Angel's wet food was out of the question as well, as she is EXTREMELY picky when it comes to supplementing her food with vitamins, medicines, etc. and refused to touch her dinner if it had the liquid in it. I received the chews and immediately gave my puppy 2 of them. She really liked them, she itches. most of the time. But the vet says she needs some type of injection to stop it completely. I don't like to give my puppy any shots but her yearly Injection for rabies. My arthritic labrador loves the water, hence I couldn't stop her paddling in a very cold stream and she suffered for it the next day, couldn't put her weight on one leg in particular and limping badly. We used this product on our grand dog. He was a scaly, crusty mess and had lost most of his hair. We took him to the vet and put him a regimen of medicated shampoo, oral antibiotics and an immunomodulator. We used the Skin Soother immediately after his daily bath. My pug had a dark bald spot on his neck from scratching and I was looking for something that would hopefully heal the area and let his hair grow back. I discovered the skin soother and decided to give it a try and this worked like magic! I ordered the 2 oz stick version and loved it. The application was great. It was very easy and clean to apply overall. I applied it to the area twice a day for two weeks before I was able to start seeing results. The hair started growing back and the dark skin was lightening up and becoming less dry and flaky. At the same time, my dog was scratching at it less so that was a plus. Only thing is this stick was practically gone by my second week. It would not have come close to lasting the month. That being said, I had to order another to see continued results but I ordered the larger tin instead. My only issue with this product is the tin is a lot harder to apply. The texture itself is not as soft and smooth as the stick. I also had to use my own hands to spread it on which I did not like at all. It also gets messy in the tin as my pug sheds so there is now hair stuck in the product. My recommendation to the company would be to have the stick in a larger option and I would gladly purchase that. I have a dog that is allergic to everything. Snow is too wet, summer is too hot, and spring is too flowery. You get the idea. Since switching him onto aller-immune chews we no longer have to get SUPER expensive shots at the vet every month. I would much rather him be on natural medication that makes him comfortable than constantly pumping him full of drugs. Highly recommend these!!
Along with the Aller-Immune Squares I received to review for free, there was also a sample pack of dental chews which I thought was a nice touch. The dental chews were a mint flavor, and my dog loved them which I thought surprising considering it was mint haha. For the Aller-Immune Squares, a ton of chews come in the bag, and there is very little smell. I love the ingredients and the texture as well as the size. I've had my 8-year old German Shepherd rescue for almost a year now, and he has definitely shown signs of being a senior dog. He doesn't like to chew on super hard things either, so sometimes finding good chews and snacks are hard because they'll just go to waste. For these chews, I don't think I would rely solely on these if my dog had an allergy or skin issues. It would be a very expensive alternative to other treatments. But, based off the nutritional content and my dog loving these, I would definitely buy these. I'd recommend these to dog owners as a healthier treat with a semi-soft consistency. These would be perfect for any sized dog as they're soft enough for a dog who can't chew crunchy foods, and they're soft enough where you can break them apart for small dogs. I really wanted to like this stuff but unfortunately my dog had other ideas. The one and only time he actually ate it is when the cats threatened to consume his food. All other times he immediately turned his nose up at it and refused to even try. He is pretty picky, though, and likely was turned off by the smell (somewhat overpowering smoked smell). If you have a dog that is allowed any opinion on what they eat, take a pass on this stuff. If you have a dog, though, that eats anything that slows down long enough then I think it is worth a try. Be forewarned, the bottle leaks, no matter how or where you store it (my bottle is always kept upright on his snack shelf in the kitchen), and leaves a messy residue along the lid and upper portion of the bottle.
My Cairn Terrier has seasonal skin allergies. This product was easier to administer, with clear dosing instructions. He seemed to like the flavor. However, I can only assume the product had somewhat of a positive affect on him as his itching decreased, but it tends to decrease anyway in cooler weather. The one negative thing I could say about the product is how messy it gets. It seems to bubble out of the top after application, so the lid is covered in product and gets messy and sticky. For many years I was a Claritin user. Daily. And, over time my allegories just continued to increase. Funny enough I had a guy come to my house to look at a furnace issue and he told be about Allergena. I went out and got it. I love it. I do also take another product with Nettles at the same time, but at the first sign of allergies, I start taking Allergena and Nettles and I haven't had anything blossom into a cold or sinus infection in over 5 years.
