My first impression was that it was great it came in a resealable bag to prevent leakage and spillage. I liked that it had two different ways to dispense, a pump and a flip cap. I chose the pump since on the bottle it says 3 pumps for a dog my dog's size. However, trying to get the pump open was quite a chore, but once I did have it open, it worked fine. However, it leaks badly. I have to put it back in the zip lock bag it came in and wrap a paper towel around the neck of the pump. It is now soaked with the product. The first pump doesn't dispense a full amount of product so I'm having to actually use 4 pumps for my dog instead of 3. I don't feel I'm giving her too much, but it won't last as long as it's supposed to for me. Which is why I gave it 4 stars. As far as whether it is benefitting my dog, I can't really say yet because it's only been a couple of weeks since and I have previously been giving her salmon oil. However, I don't see any decline in the softness of her coat and she doesn't scratch more than before. I do like the extra ingredients it has to further benefit my dog. I gave this product 4 stars rather than 5 only because the pump for the bottle I received does not work. I have three dogs, one of which has lots of allergies so gets pretty itchy/ red paws. I squirt some on their food in the morning but since they share bowls I do a lower amount to make it the right amount for my smallest dog. While I don't think this has made a major change to their coat (could be one is eating more as it depends on the day who eats more that morning. They are grazers), I think that is helped calm the allergies a little. I wouldn't say you should run out and buy it but if your dog has allergy or skin issues then it's worth a shot!
I was able to consistently put half a pump, twice a day, for about 2-3 weeks prior (2 small dogs Foxxy & Yoshi, both under 25 lbs). All of our dogs are very picky eating senior's. I really did not expect much from this product but, all dogs willing eat the hip and joint chews daily. I bought two 90 count packages for our 4 dogs, at the end of 45 days I was amazed at the difference in their coats and skin. My rescued Chih mix loves the chews. I bought this for him because for some reason he is shedding a lot. Maybe due to stress and anxiety in a new home. I have used Happy Jack 40+ years but after moving off the farm 15 years ago forgot all about it and began using holistic medications, etc. Well, I do rescue and got a little jack russell with 70% of her body scarlet, oozie red, infected red ears, thick red, hairless legs, tail, chest and face. She had been ill for so long her skin was very thick and discolored. I spent hundred of dollars for 4 months without results then ran across Happy Jack again in the Tractor Supply. I bought mange medicine instead of the dip I had used before and, within 32 (I counted them) hours, her itching has stopped, her skin is now pink not red and her little swollen paws and now a normal size. I will continue to use according to the directions to make sure this is gone but might switch to the dip to treat her in 30 day cycles. My dog was scratching constantly causing hot spots an scratches that bled a little not to mention she had this smell that's was offensive. I tried other products and then I heard of this one from a friend, bought it and brought home and put it in a spray bottle to evenly spray her entire body (except in her ears, eyes, mouth or sanitary areas) and to my surprise I Seen instant relief for her and she was able to sleep peacefully and so was I. Would I recommend this product ? Yes, yes I would.. FYI.. You might want to buy a few bottles because you'll have to make sure your pet is wet and massage it into their skin (use gloves) might want to cover areas where your offer lays until your pet is dry. Leave on your pet for 3 days… You'll notice flakes (scabs) that's normal, wash your pet.. Let them dry completely and repeat the happy Jack mange medication. You'll start to notice the hair growing back. You'll be happy and your pet will be happy an you will have saved alot of $ then you would had you went to a vet. I bought all mange treatments from happy jack… I have a white pit with enlarged paw found out it was NOT yeast like the lying vet said it was…..another vet told me it was cancer? only after years of bull! money sucking vet visits! to find out it was mange attacking the animals for YEARS ! My dogs love the taste of this and are excited to get it with their meal. It seems to be helping my girl's skin dryness. The downside is that Vitacost didn't pack it in a sealed plastic bag like they should. It was not acceptable to have it leaking amongst other items. I decided to try this product because it claimed to be "de-odored". When it arrived there was some leakage (not a big deal) thats when I noticed it was indeed not de-odored. I think the product is good but I wish it would of stated how much should be used for how big your dog is. At this rate it will only last me 2 weeks. I would say its good for small dogs and I truly do see a difference in my black lab's coat AND he's less itchier. I think I'll go with cod liver oil capsules in the future, they are far more cheaper buying in bulk and they have the same effect. My male cockapoo had started scratching and biting at his skin about a few months ago , it got so bad to the point where he wouldn’t stop until his skin was completely raw and bleeding and we had to keep a cone on him at all times. Purchased this product first from my vet; later tried a different product found on line – similar size tube but only 2.5 ounces compared to the Tomlyn product at 4.25 ounces. My most recent purchase from Wal-Mart is the best economically based on price and size. Both products list themselves as remedies; neither is a complete remedy but they are a definite improvement over hairballs and cleaning up those messes. My cat has extremely long hair, and she loves this product. The vet told me to put some on my finger and swipe it in her mouth – bad idea. Figured out that sitting on the floor, squirting out a tiny bit and letting her curiosity take over, she tried it. And now will eat as much as I squeeze out.Susan
