Using this in the sliding screen door that goes out to our screened porch. Kitty loves it! The install was a little tricky only because of the fact that it was a door we installed it on and not an easily removable one. I doubt the longevity a little bit, because it seems like I may need to add a little tape to seal it better or something. My senior Calicos are sky walkers. They love bird watching on our 2nd floor laundry room roof from there they walk along the privacy fence onto a shed then jump down to bask in the sun in the fenced in garden below. The screen door is well made of sturdy materials. It is necessary to put some form of backing material to keep the door in place. If the door is affixed to the screen only, one false move and the dog will tear it out. I mounted a wire scratch proof mesh across the lower half of the screen door, and fastened the pet door to the mesh, after making a cutout. Works swimmingly. My first one lasted for several years this way.

Took about four weeks from initial order to installation. First door delivered was put together incorrectly and therefore damaged in transit. Waited for replacement door order, it was also put together incorrectly (in same manner), but mostly undamaged, so I was able to reinstall window panes correctly. Door has some minor scratches and minor crunch at top of inside frame, but not too noticeable. Installation went well. Verified that my door frame is square, and frame mounts mounted squarely, but door still hangs a bit on its hinges, showing larger gap at bottom. Left-hinge install instructions still has references to right-hinge details. Actual door frame was within width range of product as documented, but inside handle catches slightly on latch trim piece. Filed down the handle catch to resolve, but inside spring protruded, so need to order a replacement handle ($15). Needed to chisel impression in wood frame to allow latch to seat properly. Otherwise, door looks nice and works properly.Toca37

I ordered this Ideal Pet Door from Walmart.com to replace the same model Ideal Pet Door originally installed over 10 years ago. Walmart.com had the best price and ordering from their website is convenient with fast shipping. This Ideal Pet Door is the same model with slightly different modifications which makes it a better door than my first one. Removing the old door was very easy to do. Replacing the new door was just as easy. All I needed was a Phillips head screwdriver and my fur~kid supervising me. BTW, The original installation took an hour and was placed into a glass storm door with a solid lower panel. The Pet Door is sturdy and comes with a panel that slides into slots on the inside to block the pet door opening. It can be used when travelling or when you want to keep your pet in or out. It has a magnetic strip on the bottom part of the frame and one on the bottom of the flap which keeps the flap closed. I have never had an unwelcome guest come through the door. The Ideal Pet Door is a great value, construction is flawless and replacement parts are available. It has lasted through years of two rambunctious very bad black labs and I am replacing it by choice. It can be installed in doors, storm doors, sliding patio door inserts and in brick walls. Ideal is well know for their quality pet products and has been in business for decades. Extremely easy to install.* Looks and functions better than expected in an interior door. The screws were a bit long considering the width of the door. I would suggest using shorter screws because they were hard to screw in completely, and I was using a drill to drive the screws! Overall, the door is an excellent value and I would buy another one if needed. I went with a slightly larger door than typically recommended for cats. One reason is that we are expected one cat to grow large. (We think he's a Norwegian forest cat. Before that we guessed Maine Coon.) Also, there are steps immediately on one side of the door, so I figured extra clearance would help. The smaller door would probably work OK for normal sized, fit cats. (*I traced the part that slides through the door, drilled holes where the screw posts fit through, and just cut along those lines with a jig saw. It fit right through perfectly the first time! It's functional – but takes away a good 4-6 inches in clearance space from the arcadia door. If you don't have a tremendously large arcadia sliding glass door – don't buy this. You're dog will have more room to get through the door than you do. Also, some of the pre-drilled holes weren't machined correctly and were too small for the screws that came with it. We had to drill them out a bit. Nothing huge, but could be very frustrating to someone who isn't handy with a drill/tools. The instructions could use some tweaking as well. The box comes with two (2) different sets of instructions. One looks to be a supplement to the other, and yet they don't cover all of the nuances. There's a third resource (YouTube video) to use as well – but that too doesn't warn you of perils should you attach the top half-backwards. Again, nothing huge and easy to realize/fix – but time consuming nonetheless. It's the little things like that "great" instructions benefit consumers. And the biggest peril – have two people! They show in the video and written manual a (presumed?) average housewife putting the door together. Mind you – this product is TOP HEAVY and mostly GLASS! You should have two people just for sheer safety sake when putting this together. It doesn't take much of a miscalculation to have that thing slide down the wall or forward/backwards if you're not careful. I would have preferred to have a sensor to open and close the opening for my dogs since they are so scared of everything that after 2 weeks I still have to push it open for them. Not sure if I will keep the door at this point. I wish the small door had a sensor option.Cindy
It's a great door however it doesn't completely interlock with my sliding door. It also could use more weather stripping. However on a side note the flap works grate, it looks great. But to let the folks know don't be alarmed thinking your dog is raiding your bag of potato chips, thats what it sounds like when they pass through the door.Stephanie

Impressed with the large Hakuna Pet door we got online from Bunnings. The instructions in the pack were clear and it was easy to fit. I actually removed glass from a sliding door and replaced it with 8mm think clear acrylic, and then fitted the door into the acrylic sheet. I installed this and immediately wasn't happy with it. The plastic screws are useless. The flap itself is flimsy, flexes, and never forms a decent seal. The magnet isn't strong enough to hold it in place and fell off within weeks. The bad seal lets in bugs and wind. I'm now left with a terrible draught which makes heating and cooling the house a continual struggle.Bero
Installation instructions are lacking. Installation took over 8 hours. If you decide to get this door which I don't recommend do get some 6mm thread bolts (that need to be at least the width of your door) before you leave Bunnings. I can understand why the maker has provided plastic bolts as they are designed to be cut off but the plastic is no where near sturdy enough to do the job of holding in this door. If you do buy it do yourself a favour and don't use the plastic screws at all they are useless/strip and the X for use with a screwdriver/drill strips out also making them even harder to remove. When cutting out the hole to the template size part of the dog door will not sit in the recess. You need to cut this slightly larger, but be very careful as the holes you need to drill to put the bolts through are WAY too close to this hole to have proper purchase in the door. Cutting the inserts yourself is a nightmare (instructions say to cut with scissors, this is a joke as it's so tough) I had trouble cutting this even using my Chicken shears, normal scissors won't do the job. Once this is installed the flap doesn't actually seal fully from weather and wind but will keep the flies out. There have to be better/easier doors to install.Jill & Brian
We bought this last weekend. We read the instructions carefully and were nervous at first cutting through our expensive screen door. My husband used the angle grinder to cut around the supplied template. It was so easy following the instructions. It took 1 hour. A great price too.
