I thought I'd give the puppy a chance with regular training methods (treats, praise, verbal corrections) before I started futzing with a special collar and have to buy it in two sizes. That was really stupid. I wish I would have bought it sooner and spent the money on the two sizes. I got this one in a size Medium and it fits perfectly with just an easy adjustment of the buckle. Our little man is a Labradoodle, now at about 32 lbs and expected to reach a 60-ish weight probably. He is VERY high energy, very strong and very smart, but our little darling is no longer little and I have been finding myself struggling with his 32 lb self pulling on the walks. I cannot imagine when he is full grown, so I decided finally to nip this in the bud and I ordered the gentle leader. It arrived today and I was amazed at how he has NO power to pull AT ALL. I even noticed that in many situations like when he would normally lunge at something, he didn't, maybe that is just from the novelty and will eventually wear off, but for today, it was as if he had a total attitude adjustment. It was like magic. He is none too pleased about the new situation, for sure, but I am pleased as punch. Will take a few days of working with him to get used to it so he stops trying to pull it down with his paws, but even when he was trying he couldn't get it off successfully unless I let off on the tension to the leash altogether which I was able to correct for easily enough. I have an 18 month old standard poodle. I’ve had her since 9 weeks old. She’s full of energy and gets super excited. I’ve trained her well on a typical lead but I was having issues controlling her when she would get excited by people and animals. I am so glad I took the chance and purchased these for my adorable and INSANELY CRAZY JRTs.I have tried it all. Obedience lessons, vibrate collars, halters, treats… but JRTs are very independent minded and unless you spend THOUSANDS on training, forget it.I have disabilities so walking my beloved pups was a challenge most daysMy male is still adjusting. He doesn't like it.However, he will fight a bit but once he puts the one part where the clasp connects to leader and then believes he's walking himself, then he prances down the sidewalk as if he's in control again.Our female is very good with it. I really like the PetSafe – Gentle Leader® Headcollar, in size Medium. At first I was a little skeptical that this might actually help when we take our 8 month old puppy on walks because all she wants to do constantly is stop, and smell everything. We were using a harness on her, but after trying out the Gentle Leader, it works so much better that my husband and I were amazed. The Leader is very simple, goes on easily, and there is a little loop that goes through a ring that you bring up, and it goes around the very top of your dogs nose. This is to help lease train them better so that with just a little tug, it brings your dogs head up, and in our dogs case, it stops her from smelling every little thing on her walks. It was like night and day! That's how impressed we were. At times she gives us a little snort when we give her a little gentle tug on the leash to keep her head up, but it really seems to be working, and the walks are so much more enjoyable now. The Gentle Leader Headcollar has helped me walk my senior dog more often. Living in a big city, it is common to run into other people also walking their dogs and mine would pull and pull every time he caught sight of another dog. Hence, the difficulty in walking him as often as I'd like to. The Gentle Leader came with clear instructions on how to put it on and use it which was very simple. At first, my dog didn't like wearing it, but it only took a few walks for him to get used to it and to my amazement – he stopped trying to pull completely! We have been able to go on many more enjoyable walks since using this headcollar and both me and my dog are very happy about it. I definitely recommend it for dogs with pulling issues or dogs with some anxiety, as I notice it also has a very calming effect. He walks at a much more normal pace now!
This gentle lead took some getting used to and is still a work in progress. This was my first time trying this type of product, I typically go for harnesses. It is well made so I feel secure that it will hold up during many walks and not come loose/give out. There are large picture instructions that are a great help with sizing and how to properly put it on, along with describing how the fit should be so it is comfortable but won’t slip during use. The fit and use instructions are a great help especially for someone who has never used this type of lead before. I’ve been able to train her the basic commands but when it came to leash training and leash reactivity, I tried every thing in the book. Her reactions to other dogs were so severe that even with the prong collar, she would pull so hard she was choking herself to the point that she couldn’t even bark!! I watched the video and I actually gave her a few treats through the loop and when I put it on her she didn’t LOVE it but she didn’t hate it either. But to the point, she was immediately a different dog! She walked beside me and didn’t try to lead and we were even able to pass dogs without incident. She did attempt to roll around but I gave her a treat and praise and after a few trys it was smooth sailing. This needs 10 stars!Purpleunicorn84

We've used this collar for a few weeks and have definitely seen improvement. When our 130 lb Asian Shepherd tries to lunge at a passing car we simply put tension on the leash and she stops. We are a little concerned with how sturdy and reliable it is. The true test will be when we come across either another dog or a deer. Fingers crossed!ked7526
We have tried every type of no-pill harness out there, and had given up. When I went to my locally owned pet shop to buy a new collar for my girl, I saw this harness and decided to give it a go. What a difference. She didn’t like it at first, but it only took a couple of days for her to stop pawing at it. Fitting the harness was so easy as is putting on for a walk. It’s very lightweight, and with the additional padding on the nose loop combined with the heat-cut ends of the straps being sewn so that they do not touch her fur means no chafing and no sore spots. I can’t remember exactly what year we would have gotten our first gentle leader, but I’ll always remember the doggo we got it for and what a life changer it was!! He was 120 pounds of pure muscle and we.had.tried.everything. Group training, private training, and all the types of collars I would never use today even if I didn’t have this amazing option (choke, pinch, shock…). Our vet had even recommended having a horse halter made for him. And then a friend suggested a gentle leader. Overnight, we went from dreading the walk and only taking them when the strongest in the family was available, to myself, the kids and even my parents being able to EASILY, with one hand and no strength required, walk this dog who literally dragged me across a soccer field once when I slid on wet grass but didn’t want to let go of his leash. It was probably right around twenty years ago, and sadly Bear has long ago been to the rainbow bridge. But we’ve had a few other large, strong pullers since and thankfully we knew from the beginning how to make walks fun and bearable for everyone. I only wish it hadn’t taken SO long for there to be some collars with a little design and color other than the same solid colors for so many years. And I can’t lie, I sure wish there were more choices than there are. But thankfully the gentle leader is still available. I’ve worried at times when it’s been hard to find at stores in our area – but no matter how many other harnesses I’ve tried (and there have been quite a few – mostly looking to try to raise the fashion game a little or avoid the initial struggle to get it off), nothing has worked like the gentle leader and I always just get another one. Definitely helps ameliorate very strong pulling but dog not too happy. Puppy mostly tolerates it but on occasion rubs her head across ground – grass or tarmac – to try to get it off, with the result that's she's scratched her little face. I so hope she grows up to not need it but in the meantime, to coin a phrase, it's me or the dog. I've got a 5 month old rescue pup who has never been on a lead before and used to pull like crazy, weaving all over the place which is incredibly frustrating even for the most patient of owners! So a dog trainer suggested I buy a gentle leader. Once i fitted it and my dog got used to having it on, I braved the dreaded walk and my word what a difference! Our young labradoodle was dreadful at pulling on the lead with just a collar. With this there was an immediate difference, she's much easier to control. According to the instructions she should learn over time not to pull so we don't need this arrangement for ever, but we haven't seen that happen yet. She doesn't really like it, particularly the bit that hangs under her chin which seems to irritate her if left on when not using the lead – but for us humans it's great.pete-and-marg

I cannot imagine when he is full grown, so I decided finally to nip this in the bud and I ordered the gentle leader. It arrived today and I was amazed at how he has NO power to pull AT ALL. I even noticed that in many situations like when he would normally lunge at something, he didn't, maybe that is just from the novelty and will eventually wear off, but for today, it was as if he had a total attitude adjustment. It was like magic. He is none too pleased about the new situation, for sure, but I am pleased as punch. Will take a few days of working with him to get used to it so he stops trying to pull it down with his paws, but even when he was trying he couldn't get it off successfully unless I let off on the tension to the leash altogether which I was able to correct for easily enough.
