Fi Dog Collar Waterproof For Sale (2024 Update)

I've had the FI collar for about 8 months now, and it has been a downward spiral for the last month now. Initially it started off great, it was reliable, and it delivered on its promises. However, now, it is unreliable, inconsistent, and not worth the cost.

If you want a product to rely on to keep track of your dogs, this is not the one for you. Here's a list of the issues that's developed in the last month with it that have gone with no resolution:

-Battery is advertised as lasting between 1 to 3 months; reality is, it lasts about 2 weeks at best, though now it's losing about 15-20% per DAY.

-Collar can't keep consistent connection to base or home wifi. When my dog is sitting at home, the collar constantly and randomly disconnects from both wifi and base station and sends me a false alert that he has left the house.

-It doesn't actually alert me when my dog leaves the network and goes on a walk. I've taken my dog out on a walk, then checked my app to see if it kept track, only to see it notes he left the home network and when he came back, no track of where he went in between.

-Took my dog on a day out at a dog park, FI collar didn't register we were there at all. Just noted the time I left the house and came back. No GPS info or connection to phone to indicate where we went or were, despite being out and about for a few hours.

-Battery life is increasingly diminished. Charged it to full 3 day ago, battery currently at 64%. Dog's been home mostly, minus short daily walks.

-Collar doesn't detect or connect to collar base. I'm sitting at home within range and the collar is connected to my phone via bluetooth, rather than at to collar base.

-Due to all these issues, went for the tried and true "restart" attempt. I deactivated the collar but when I went to reactivate it, it failed to do so. So now the collar is just a normal collar with zero tracking ability.

-Have had multiple back and forth with customer service, but all they do is ask me to do certain things so they can see what the diagnostic says, but nothing concrete or noticeable changes are being made.

Never has such a product gone from a high beginning to a burning, crashing end. Due to initial credit, I've been trying to get things fixed with customer service for the past few weeks to no avail. I really wanted this to work as the battery life is really attractive, but now it has become too unreliable and untrustworthy to depend on.

I've had my collar for 9 months. Love it.

Really like the activity & sleep tracking. Provides good insight into my dogs habits! tracking is good for the most part.

Areas for improvements: battery life and range. I have 5 acres total, with 2.5 my dog can roam freely. Initally after purchasing the collar, my dog would go out of wifi/base range every couple hours, which put it in GPS mode and drained battery very fast.

I ended up buying 3 more base stations and spreading them out around my property,which solved the issue. Now the collar gets about 2 months charge.

The base stations are $40 a piece, so if you have a large house or property and don't want to spend more to keep collar from dying every couple days, this might not be the right solution for you.

Subscription model: You can add multiple collars/dogs to one account, however if you want to track a new dog Fi makes you pay for a second subscription. It would be nice if one subscription would cover all collars on one account.Z W

I’ve had the collar a little over 1.5 years. It has worked okay at best.
When my dog has been lost/gotten out, the app usually takes longer to update than one minute that they claim it will, not has it been incredibly accurate.
When I take her for walks, I get a notification about 10 minutes after we have left the house telling me that she’s left the house. That’s not very helpful, a dog having a 10 minute window before a notification is sent.
The past few weeks her collar/the module has been offline or searching for network. In the meantime, the home base has lost connection to the collar and the network, meaning that the location tracker has not been working, it doesn’t even register that it’s at home. The step counter has not been active either.
When notifying the tech support of these new issues I was pushed to just buy a new module/collar (since I’m past the 1 year warranty) instead of being helped to possibly troubleshoot any issues.
I joined their Facebook group to see if I can find assistance or help from someone else who has gone through the same issue to see if it can be resolved, but in order for you to join the group you have to say that you won’t post anything negative about the collar or try to discourage anyone else from buying it. Shady business, my friends.

I switched from Whistle to Tractive for my cat, Knuckles. BEST CHOICE EVER. I find it much, much more accurate than Whistle and the features are awesome! I live on the Columbia River in St. Helens, Oregon. We are remote and surrounded by forest and water. Knuckles (aka “The OG”) likes to walk the “hood” like a mafia Don. We’ve had a couple visits to the emergency vet lately 😒. The Whistle was just too limited in what it can do, so I bought Tractive (much cheaper and I liked the features advertised). WOW!!!! So earlier tonight I was notified he’d left his virtual fence, so I used live tracking. Holy smokes! It’s outstanding! I watched him dart all over the damn place and I’m like “COME on ya idiot cat”. I started activating the sound feature and watched him react…..😂😂🤣, then the light feature. He got annoyed and started for home, so I used the AR feature and met him about 500 yards up my road. I’m so impressed I can’t even find words. The only thing I’m having trouble with is showing time and speed in the map settings. I use this on my iPad but will try again using the website. I have a dog who loves to escape from the garden. Having spent much of lockdown fencing the garden she still manages to find ways out. If she can't burrow under she goes over. No sooner have I blocked one escape route she has found another. Now with the tracker I receive alerts as soon as she leaves the safety of the garden and I can retrieve her quickly. The peace of mind is well worth the cost. There are other features which are interesting but we don't really use such as how much time she spends asleep per day or how much exercise she takes. The rubber clips which attach the tracker to her collar are rather fragile, but customer support have sent me 3 replacements free of charge. We do get some false alerts that the dog has escaped, but having set the virtual boundary close to the house this is probably bound to happen and I'd rather have this than to miss an escape. Battery life is about 3 days which is more than adequate. The tracker is a little bulky for a small dog (miniature Dachshund) but she's used to it. Overall I am very satisfied with the device and would recommend it for anyone with a Houdini pet.Andrew G.

I hesitated to buy this for a while, since it was a lot of money for me with the subscription cost too. I did a lot of research and finally took the plunge. I had some concerns about my dog running away, getting out or being swiped, but buying this product instantly stopped those concerns. This is so much more than just a tracker. It blew me away. It’s like a FitBit for dogs as well. It keeps track of how active my dog is, tracks her energy output, sets goals for her and even tracks her sleep/rest times. It inspired me to get her out for longer, so she’s healthier for it. I love the live tracking feature. I find it works really well and it’s so easy to locate her, so the peace of mind it gives is next level. I know some have complained about the service in remote areas, but any GPS requires high signal areas. You need to consider how any GPS products would work if you’re in a remote location, although I’ve done a lot of research on this product and heard quite a few people in remote areas had no issue. I love the battery saving feature where you can mark a “safe zone” for the product to go into power saving mode in. You can click a button to check that the product is still working and online while in the “safe zone”, which is helpful. It charges ridiculously quickly and a single charge can last days if your dog spends time in the “safe zone”. The corresponding app works incredibly well too. It’s not glitched once in months of use and works quickly and smoothly. This product was worth every cent. It’s so well designed and thought out, it’s such a smart little product. It’s slimline, succinct and stylish. I feel so much better when she has it on. I’ve gotten so many friends onto this product and everyone loves it. It’s absolutely worth it.bellsssss

I had just bought them all new ones in May but, already, the cute summer designs and colors were fading and some threads were loose. I bought all 3 these collars and they've been great. They're sturdy, the colors haven't faded, good fit, no threads to get snagged, and they're waterproof. Perfect for our pack that loves getting muddy, wet, and sunbathing on the deck!Momenzel

It doesn't look like it's going to be all that durable but time will tell. I like the color and the fact that's it's a rubber like material that doesn't absorb moisture is exactly as described. Whistle used to have a useful health tracker, but they changed it such that it provides little useful information now. The tracker itself is horrible, and causes more problems than it’s worth. I only really use it when we’re hiking off leash. It takes longer than 30 minutes to connect when I’m trying to find the location of my dog, regardless of whether he’s out of sight or nearby and I see him. And there are plenty of cell towers nearby. One time it did connect and it — falsely — told me he was in the middle of a highway, and I almost caused an accident trying to find him. I since inferred this was false because another time it told me he was 1 mile away, in the middle of the Mississippi River, about 5 seconds after I saw him near me. Whistle makes me have panic attacks more than I would without it. DO NOT BUY unless they make major changes to its connectivity.William McIntire (Billy)

The data collected about my 2 dogs’ health and activity is great. So far we haven’t received any false notifications about them leaving the zone, which was a problem with the Go. And when one of them took off recently while we were far from home, the location tracker was great and more frequently updated than our old Go models. This was true even in close range when she was hiding in the woods nearby in a very rural area of northern NH. My biggest complaint is the collar itself. With the switch, we cannot choose our own collar. Our dogs are both on the low end of the size, which means a constantly floppy end. The larger dog tries to grab her sister’s collar when they wrestle, which is dangerous. And the two small plastic pieces for holding it in place don’t stay put for more than 5 min. It’s driving us bonkers and we are looking for hacks to keep it in place. Also, the metal grommets already look loose after only a month of use. I’m worried about them giving way. Any of ice or new design on the way? The collar quality is not up to Whistle’s standards. ☹️Catherine K.

We installed the in ground wire around the perimeter of our property. I have one dog that digs under our fence and one that climbs the fence. These collars keep our dogs away from the fence and keeps them from running out into the street. We have had our fence for 5 years now and only replaced the collars once because I misplaced them. Batteries need replacement every few months. I like that the dogs get a beeping warning once they are within a few feet of the perimeter and only get shocked if they cross the boundary.fldolphinmc

I have a lab / hound mix that is 11 years old and she weighs about 85lbs. We began usin this collar since April 2017 and within 3 months, one of the prongs broke off. We contacted petsafe and were told that this is an uncommon problem and that the only way this could happen is due to "rough play, hitting it against an object, over-tightening the probes, etc." I have a hard time believing our senior aged dog plays rough enough to break the prongs of a durably made product. If you have a larger / sporting breed dog, i would steer clear of this product and go with Invisible Fence or the SportDOG brand from another retailer. They seem to cater to larger / sporting breeds. We've had our fence under a year, no problems with the actual fence. We have 2 dogs on the fence, 1 is an English Mastiff and the other is a Cocker Spaniel. The Cocker Spaniel's clip/closure cracked and broke off so we had to go out and search almost an acre of property to find it. We did find it but it is a PAIN to have to go out and search for a collar that you would not expect to break. Recently our English Mastiff has been strolling off the property, she has never done that in the almost year we have had it. First think I did was check the battery and decided to be safe we would change it!! That didn't work so I decided to take off the collar and check it to make sure it worked and it does but there are certain times when it don't. I have it on the highest frequency and I'm hoping this works, I will keep you informed. But us like others are missing the clear caps that cover the button to change the frequency. I don't understand how these pieces can come off unless we take them off, this tells me that there is a malfunction in your manufacturing if we are not the only ones missing these caps!! Then to top it off, you sell these clear caps and expect us to pay for them, something doesn't seem right. If you know these clear caps come off, shouldn't you be trying to fix this issue and offer those caps or free? ​Rich T

Our Vizsla has several collars because he's spoiled, but this is our go-to for any outdoor adventures – trail running, mountain biking, camping, doggy playdates, etc. It cleans easily and completely with just soap and water (even when totally coated in mud, which has happened), dries instantly, is pretty much indestructible, and looks brand new all the time. The fastener is also super strong – our dog's best bud is super skilled at opening collars when she's wrestling, and she's never gotten this one off of him. On a side note, I love the turquoise color with our "redhead" :).Katie C.

The transmitter will not charge, despite my having ordered a new battery. The collar receives and charger work just fine, but the transmitter does not work well…it lost its charge and I can't recharge it…so it's a very expensive one-time-use collar. absolutely love these collars! we had trained our older dogs with them, so ordered new ones when we got two new puppies. They are amazing! now all i have to do is show them the remote and they stop the bad behavior instantly. Sadly when I was in the other room one teething pup got hold of it and decided to chew it… i need to order a replacement remote, but don't know how to contact the company… help! lolAngela

The Oxgord is wonderful and it really helped me get a rescue I have in check to control his really bad behavioral problems. I am a trainer and rescuer for years but this one was a doozy, but like all the others I could train even more easily, he was my heart. I love the little guy who was going to be a big guy one day. So getting his behavioral problems controlled and him being safe was my priority. I really loved this item once I got the hang of it, although it has several modes. I usually just use vibration when possible, if it is something serious like pulling my arm out or bolting out the door, picking up any junk he sees in the yard or on the road in his mouth was a real issue for it caused me repeated visits to the vets and all nights up because of his stomach issues, those issues came from the time I got him due to his diet before I got him he was ill the first day and for several months. I often used the shock method on low when he was putting things in his mouth, for that is dangerous on the outside of your home, we are puppy proofed in my home. I just want to say if you have worked your fingers, mind and heart to the bone to train a pet and his behavior is out of control, then DO NOT GIVE UP on the pet and re-surrender him them back to the shelter. For if you use right timing to make the point to the pet and watch what you are doing and not abuse the shock mode, them you will be on the way to a wonderful pet who proves to be a family member in the long run and one you will love. So at last resort get this and of if you need it in any way get this one. Great affordable price, quick shipping, two collars in the kit and just an all around product that really shocked me that it worked so well, functionality and quality of product, good packaging, all came in without defect, The items in there have to be charged, so read your instructions for that is very important to the proper usage of this on a warm fuzzy, it needs to be used as control and not abusive, you try the shock method on yourself, and see how it works for you, you will be cautionary, my husband used it on himself to test and he said a bad word when it happened, lol. I was just amazed when I got this dog training collar. Most of them cost over $100… so I thought for $18 what can I lose? I had some trouble charging it, but once I got it charged I was amazed. I have a fairly obedient dog so I don't need it to work 300 yards away. My dog quickly caught on to coming to the beep and the vibration. I started the voltage at the bottom numbers because I didn't want my dog to start hating the collar right off of the bat, and he responded well. I put my finger across the electrodes to see what kind of shock it would give. I did it at about thirty thinking that wouldn't be too bad and was shocked at the power of the electric shock (Haha) I hope I never have to turn it up to 30%, much less 100%. I have a Labradoodle that I have trained for hunting upland game birds and waterfowl, and he's a great retriever, but when a rooster pheasant takes off he will sometimes chase it because I'm not a good enough shot half of the time. I would recommend this collar to anyone interested in an inexpensive dog training collar. But don't start training with much of a shock or you'll train the dog to hate the collar. Go slow and teach his to associate the collar with having a great time.cgroveh

Bought this 825x collar about a month ago. Not happy with the distance i get. Not happy the cover on the charging port on the controler broke off. I put this thing in my hand and get nothing on #2 but on #3 it will let you know u dont want # 4. Am i happy with it ? NOT REALLY. WILL i live with it ? Yes till it shuts down. I think the Company should address it. It is made very well except items i mentioned. I may have gotten a faulty one but i can live with it.Oemmm77

I bought this a month ago and so far it's amazing. I started off with a cheaper one I bought online and my stubborn dog would barely flinch, even on the highest setting. With this set at 2 I get a reaction from her. Most of the time the tone or vibrate is enough to get her attention and she'll stop whatever it is I don't want her doing. Sportdog training collars have changed our lives. We have used them on our recently deceased Great Dane, our 4 year-old Walker Hound, 4 month old Bloodhound & 5 month old Great Dane puppy. We have used an older 100 yard collar a 425X & are waiting for the 825X to come in the mail. Not only do the sportdog collars work for "recall" they work for other basic commands like "NO", "drop-it" "settle". We always train our dogs on voice and hand commands as much as possible before using the collars. It certainly helps when our puppies are trying to chase or attack some yard rabbits, chickens ducks or goats. I do find if you are using the collar the battery life is only about a 2-4 hrs of working time. I wish they could have an external battery pack of some degree or another to help on exciting days. Price for product is on point. The only thing I wish sportdog would do, is come out with a cat sized collar. My Bengal is a nutbar, like they all are, and has a taste for killing. It sure would be nice to have one for him when he is slaying yard rabbits or trying to take down ducks in the pond to give him a little zap to help save lives. Sportdog says because they are geared towards hunting they do not see in the future them creating one for cats, but if they do I will buy 2.FarmGirl2013

I bought this collar to replace a cheap one that I had. I do like the quality of it. However, The only thing I don't like, is it turns off automatically after one hour if you don't use a function. So it will turn off even if you are out walking your dog for an hour or longer. If your dog takes off after animal if you go to use it in an emergency, it is turned off and you have to try to turn it on quickly before your dog runs off.jasonk304

We adopted a dog who is a nervous guy and not food motivated. He would bark at people walking by our house and wouldn’t come when he was called. I used this collar to train him and only had to use the static stimulation twice on the lowest setting and now just use the tone. Four months ago we picked up a 3 year old yellow lab at a shelter near Denver. The dog is lovable, has had some hunting experience, but was WILD when we got him. It was necessary to keep him tethered at all times, or he was GONE for 20 minutes pursuing some scent in the nearby forest (we back up to public land). I purchased this device in the hopes I could control him. To my surprise I discovered he must have had some time with a similar device. He instantly responded to the Tone/Vibration mode. When he would start to take off, one tap on that mode made him instantly come back. Only if he chased a deer on hikes did I have to "tingle" him a little. He would immediately drop the chase. Now I can take a hike with him in the forest, without a leash, & he stays right with me, if wearing the collar.mstar5

I bought the sport dog 425x for my lab a few months ago & loved it but it recently fell off him while we were walking on a trail and I was never able to find it. For the money it costs, I don’t think it should fall off that easily. I then bought the 825x, but I’m not sure I recommend this collar for extremely active dogs.esport dog collar

I’m writing this review after just realizing that I bought this product well over two years ago, and it still looks brand new! My water-loving golden has put this thing through what I can only describe as the world’s best torture test, and it looks the same as the day I bought it. Previously, I had spent hundreds of dollars on different collars for him (they all wore out within a year), but I will literally never buy a different brand now, and I will definitely recommend to all friends & family. Had high hopes and was kind of let down by the overall design. The loop thats used to pull out slack and get the right size for your dogs neck has no way of being flush to the shape of the collar. So it creates this pinch in the collar that gets caught on stuff all the time. Probably won’t order again unless this design issue is resolved.Jackson E.

For one year Old English Lab. Not neutered, was getting a little defiant, and was running out into the street, and eating ALL KINDS of garbage. Was reticent to get a shock collar, I could NEVER hurt any animal, but only had to shock him ONCE in two weeks ! He is a different Dog ! As long as you follow the "Command, beep, vibrate order?" He now stops his running away, AND drops any "food" he finds usually just from the beep ! Half the time just the command works ! (Which NEVER did) He knew I was too old to catch him, so there was never any consequence to his misbehavior. I truly feel this thing will probably save his life, either by not getting run over, or from a blockage or poison he'd pick up on the walks. Labs eat EVERYTHING !sobrmn5

We love this collar. We purchased another shock collar previously and this one is by far superior. The battery life is great and my dog responds to the beep, vibrate, and I rarely have had shock him bc the other 2 work so well. This collar has a long range and I am able to beep him when he is doing something he shouldnt outside without having to be close to him. I love that this remote locks so our little ones dont shock him. This has helped us teach him the behaviors to avoid and he has become such a better dog. Decent quality. Good sound, vibration and shock. It is nice that they can be done separately. Some dogs do not require shock. Water resistant to a point. The last one we had eventually shorted out. The small rubber plug gets damaged/destroyed and water gets into the unit and it is done.rawheeler59

I have hunted 6 times now with the device. Has only lost contact one time in very deep brush for about 10 seconds. Otherwise this has been spot on. Already saved my dog once when he was caught on a branch from his vest. Well worth the price. Battery life actually seems better than reported. I’ve only had to charge it one time for six different hunts. Each lasting about 3 to 4 hours. Hopefully it lasts for years and years!Ryan7
