I've had the FI collar for about 8 months now, and it has been a downward spiral for the last month now. Initially it started off great, it was reliable, and it delivered on its promises. However, now, it is unreliable, inconsistent, and not worth the cost.
If you want a product to rely on to keep track of your dogs, this is not the one for you. Here's a list of the issues that's developed in the last month with it that have gone with no resolution:
-Battery is advertised as lasting between 1 to 3 months; reality is, it lasts about 2 weeks at best, though now it's losing about 15-20% per DAY.
-Collar can't keep consistent connection to base or home wifi. When my dog is sitting at home, the collar constantly and randomly disconnects from both wifi and base station and sends me a false alert that he has left the house.
-It doesn't actually alert me when my dog leaves the network and goes on a walk. I've taken my dog out on a walk, then checked my app to see if it kept track, only to see it notes he left the home network and when he came back, no track of where he went in between.
-Took my dog on a day out at a dog park, FI collar didn't register we were there at all. Just noted the time I left the house and came back. No GPS info or connection to phone to indicate where we went or were, despite being out and about for a few hours.
-Battery life is increasingly diminished. Charged it to full 3 day ago, battery currently at 64%. Dog's been home mostly, minus short daily walks.
-Collar doesn't detect or connect to collar base. I'm sitting at home within range and the collar is connected to my phone via bluetooth, rather than at to collar base.
-Due to all these issues, went for the tried and true "restart" attempt. I deactivated the collar but when I went to reactivate it, it failed to do so. So now the collar is just a normal collar with zero tracking ability.
-Have had multiple back and forth with customer service, but all they do is ask me to do certain things so they can see what the diagnostic says, but nothing concrete or noticeable changes are being made.
Never has such a product gone from a high beginning to a burning, crashing end. Due to initial credit, I've been trying to get things fixed with customer service for the past few weeks to no avail. I really wanted this to work as the battery life is really attractive, but now it has become too unreliable and untrustworthy to depend on.

I've had my collar for 9 months. Love it.
Really like the activity & sleep tracking. Provides good insight into my dogs habits! tracking is good for the most part.
Areas for improvements: battery life and range. I have 5 acres total, with 2.5 my dog can roam freely. Initally after purchasing the collar, my dog would go out of wifi/base range every couple hours, which put it in GPS mode and drained battery very fast.
I ended up buying 3 more base stations and spreading them out around my property,which solved the issue. Now the collar gets about 2 months charge.
The base stations are $40 a piece, so if you have a large house or property and don't want to spend more to keep collar from dying every couple days, this might not be the right solution for you.
Subscription model: You can add multiple collars/dogs to one account, however if you want to track a new dog Fi makes you pay for a second subscription. It would be nice if one subscription would cover all collars on one account.Z W

When I take her for walks, I get a notification about 10 minutes after we have left the house telling me that she’s left the house. That’s not very helpful, a dog having a 10 minute window before a notification is sent.
The past few weeks her collar/the module has been offline or searching for network. In the meantime, the home base has lost connection to the collar and the network, meaning that the location tracker has not been working, it doesn’t even register that it’s at home. The step counter has not been active either.
When notifying the tech support of these new issues I was pushed to just buy a new module/collar (since I’m past the 1 year warranty) instead of being helped to possibly troubleshoot any issues.
I joined their Facebook group to see if I can find assistance or help from someone else who has gone through the same issue to see if it can be resolved, but in order for you to join the group you have to say that you won’t post anything negative about the collar or try to discourage anyone else from buying it. Shady business, my friends.

I bought this approximately two months ago and have not been particularly pleased with it. I find the buttons and the display unwieldly and very small making them difficult to see. The instruction manual that comes with the product does not explain the use of each of the features, meaning you have to try and navigate through Garmin's whole system to try and find a more helpful manual. Within a month the antennae fell off of the handheld device somewhere on a hike, to never be found again. When I contacted Garmin, I was told that the antennas don't fall off. Given that mine is missing, it seemed an odd thing to claim. They then told me I could purchase another one from their website – which as far as I can tell, you can't. The handheld device is by far the biggest issue though – it is not rechargable (how is that even possible?!?!?) and sucks up batteries like there's no tomorrow. In two months I have spent $40 on batteries. Regular batteries are basically pointless and lithium ones only last for about three weeks of use (2 hours a day x 3 days a week). If I had any idea that this was going to cost me SO MUCH extra money in addition to the already expensive price tag, I would definitely have purchased a different system. While the system has many neat features and does exactly what it is supposed to do (find my dog), I overall am highly dissatisfied with this purchase.Jen11
I read in a couple of notes about the battery life; yes it can be using a lot of batteries, but I switched rechargeable batteries and now this issue is in the past. The only issue I really have is that the whole handheld unit feels like 1990! At this price point you would expect a bigger detailed display, that shows you crisp images, but that is a no-go! It is not user friendly. The icons for the dog and your location are too small and the contrast on the screen makes it hard to see the little icons in sunny conditions. The collar that came in the box is not bright green as it shows on the box. It is a medium green, harder to see on the dog than the bright green I thought I was getting. The only real problem and the reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 4 or 5 is the company misspelled my dogs name. His name is Gunnar. I checked that I spelled it correctly several times so it wouldn't be Gunner. Well, I got Gunner. Not worth sending back, but if people can't follow these simple instructions, I may go somewhere else for the next one.

I thought this would be a great collar for my dog because it gives you an opportunity to track the exact location of your dog should he or she suddenly run away. The concept of this product was the catalyst for me to order the collar and give it a try. I like the fact that this collar provides a layer of protection that I've never had. I never wanted to microchip my dog, it would feel too much like branding her like merchandise. I'd rather make sure that she's in close proximity within secure parameters at all times. If something were to happen and my dog ends up out of my sight, the collar has a website, which would allow a good Samaritan to locate ownership information to return the dog. I think this concept is quite clever. Unfortunately, this collar is too small for my dog. When I try to lengthen the collar to make it a little longer it is still too small. Another negative, the website is restricted per size of the collar. For instance, a consumer can register with the Pet website provided. However, a consumer who purchases a larger collar is redirected to another website. I don't understand why there is a stipulation on differentiated website. In my opinion, this restriction causes unnecessary confusion.Cheron
This Track N Guard 1X Protective Dog Collar came in a blue collar and fits a medium sized dog. The collar measures 18 inches at it's longest length and about .75 inches wide. My dog weighs about 50 pounds and this dog collar fits snugly at it's longest length. I like the quality of the collar and the stitching feels well made. This collar came with an instruction paper that included directions on how to register and navigate their 411PET.NET website. Their website is a very basic website. Registering your pet is simple and easy. However, once your pet is registered, there are not many instructions or commentary as to what happens next. There are no test or verification process to check if the collar location service is working. So my husband and I tested it for ourselves. I registered my pet with my phone number as the primary and my husband’s phone number as secondary. I then had my husband activate the “FOUND A PET” service on their website. He was able to send me a text but the text did not include a location link like the service advertised it would. The website advertised that the GPS location would be included in the text message but it was not included in my husband’s text to me. We tried it again but this time I sent a text to my husband’s phone number and this time the text message did include a location link. From our experience, we determined that the person sending the text message must allow the website to access their location services on the phone for the location link to be sent. If the person sending the text, denies the location service then the location link will not be included in the text message. Overall, the idea of the Track N Guard 1X Protective Dog Collar is a work in progress and I think they need to work out the kinks a little more. The Track N Guard Protective Dog Collar is a new method for pet identification if you pet gets lost. It took me a thorough view of the company website to actually determine how the collar worked. Before talking about that let me say the collar itself is a high quality nylon in a beautiful pink collar. I found it to be a heavy duty color that will be easy to clean. The collar also has a huge metal loop that was easy to attach my leash for walking. Now let's discuss the technology and the concept behind the Track N Guard. The collar uses a PET ID directly in the collar. You visit a website and enter in the ID from the tag that is embedded on the collar. Great that you do not have to worry about the hanging tags rubbing or falling off. You then receive a notification with GPS coordinates. While my dog was not actually lost. I did test it with the neighbors who took the dog on a walk. I hope I never actually have to use this for real life scenario. The concern I do have is, that while many out there have a level of tech savvy there is still a large market of non savvy tech people. I would probably still attach traditional tags to the collar with my identifying information. This would be my one addition. Not everyone is even comfortable enough visiting website and entering in details, or they may fear there is a cost associated with doing so.shanners

All the doggy daycares in my area require a snap release clasp for safety reasons. Meaning that I have switch to a regular non-GPS collar when I drop him off. It also means that the health tracking is inaccurate now because it misses the entire time at daycare. It’s amazing that this isn’t offered in the flagship product. Purchased a couple of these extra collars in different sizes. One for a friend's pup (XS/S) and one for mine (S/M). Can only speak to the S/M, since that is the one we're using. Bought so I could switch it out with the original collar when that one gets dirty. I have a terrier mix, so collars get dirty A LOT. Overall quality of materials is great. Study hardware, grommets, and nylon webbing. Cleans easily. Easy to transfer Whistle device to new collar using included hardware. Design definitely is NOT great. As others have mentioned, the sizing is irregular. The S/M I bought separately here is listed specifically for my model collar, but it is almost 2 inches longer than the original S/M collar that came with my Whistle device, also purchased on this site. Both are labeled S/M, so that much difference is bizarre. Grommets are great in theory, but too far apart to get a good fit. An adjustable slide style would size better. If you have a small dog (mine is about 20lbs), the collars are very wide and the devices themselves are large and take getting used to/careful monitoring. There is a large plastic curved piece against the dog's throat (opposite side from the square battery; see photos above) that could do real damage to a small neck, so always use a separate harness for walks (important to do for small dogs anyway) and remove this collar if your dog is playing strenuously with other dogs. No way would I ever use this (as they claim is doable) on a 5lb dog, and definitely never on a cat, as there is no breakaway feature to keep cats safe from getting tangled in brush, etc. Those cautions aside, I love how the Whistle device works — super accuracy, easy-to-use app, and great battery life. I'm definitely a fan, and I'll be using this with my dog and hoping for design improvements in the future.
The tracker works great!!! The collar is a horrible design! We have a Brittany spaniel, so she is one active dog. The first tracker we got was Whistle Go and she broke that one and left part of it in the woods. The customer service was great and gave us a discount on the GPS+Health. The problem we have is the collar is falling a part!!! If you look at the ring holes and the screws that hold the bracket in are coming right out. They need to come up with an option designed more for a hunting breed. One that is rugged and build for dogs to run in the woods and get wet!! Don't get me wrong the tracker is great but the collars needs updating.Brenda
