Extra Large Gravity Dog Feeder For Sale (2024 Update)

We bought this to keep our giant slobbery indoor heckin' chonka watered for a brief getaway, and on the whole it's hit the mark for that. At 4 gallons of water, with an optional activated charcoal filter pack, this thing will keep your dog(s) stocked with tasty water for quite a while (especially if you have smaller breeds). It's now our everyday waterer, and we fill it once or twice a month depending on seasonal weather. It's very easy to clean, with all the parts coming apart easily, and the huge openings mean everything's readily accessible even if you have larger hands. Between the easy cleanability and the use of Microban, I'd be comfortable drinking out of it myself after a fresh cleaning. It's never grown weird things or become discolored or slimy between cleanings. But. The 4-gallon model is also a giant, treacherous, clumsy mess when it comes time to refill it and put it back together. Unlike most of their older models, Petmate decided not to mold a handle into the jug on this one. While this would normally just make things slightly less convenient, this jug is also completely untextured and extremely slippery. If you don't manage to get the jug and your hands COMPLETELY bone dry, it can and will slip out of your hands, dump water all over the floor, and dislodge the carbon filter so you have to jam your arm elbow-deep into now-slightly-less-than-four gallons of water to reassemble everything. This giant, slippery, unmanageable bottle uses Petmate's twist-lock bottle top, so even if you get the bottle inserted on the first try, you often still end up wrestling with 32 pounds of sloshy slippery bulk trying to get it into its proper groove. Or, if you don't notice the bottle is slightly off kilter, the gravity feed never stops flowing and soon once again there's water all over your floor. (But, one the up side, once it's on there even your large dog isn't going to knock the bottle off its perch.) If you don't absolutely positively need the largest model, go for a smaller one. If you do, plan to throw some skate deck grip tape or the like on the bottle, and don't plan on passing refill duty off to your younger kids or smaller partner.C.M.

I purchased the 2.5 gallon gravity waterer. It is used by 1 dog and 2 cats. Problem is the water does not flow into bowl unless I tilt it. I thought the filter was obstructing it so I purchased new filter….Same Problem. Then I removed the filter…..Same Problem. Also my cats keep batting at it to get water and end up knocking the reservoir off the bowl…Flows all over floor!! Now it is past the 30 days so no refund or exchange.available…Really wish I had read reviews first, although many seem happy with the product…….Any suggestions??KRP2022

Got a new Jack Russell and after much review of all water bowl products, I decided on this one because it is strong plastic, has microban and is made in USA (although it never says what things are from overseas). Unfortunately, this water "replenishing" water bowl does not work. Utter failure. The charcoal pack had to be removed completely as the water didnt flow. Still, the water does NOT flow…I have to tip is over myself every single time. When I inspected it closer the bottom of the filter part is completely on the bottom of the bowl. Unless the entire unit is tilted at a 45 degree angle, water does NOT come out. I bought this at Petsmart and i tried to take it back but I missed the return window by 2 days. Now I am stuck with a $27 piece of plastic. I hope this will save someone the time, money and frustration.JID918

Like others have said it is kind of cheaply made. I had bend some of steel to keep pin in for lid. I think I got that fixed. The magnets don’t always latch on level ground so I raised the back about 1/2” and door does catch with the magnets every time. However, magnets are not very strong. I think it would keep mice out but I don’t think a big rat would have problem budging open the door. I may add a strip of magnets on each side to be a little more difficult to open for rats. Hoping this works good for my livestock guardian dogs.Sharonco

Great idea, poorly executed. Ordered this feeder in store, with the help of an associate and the item was delivered to the store the next day. Unfortunately, it took another 6 days (I had the tracking number) for the store to email me it was ready to pick up. The box was clearly damaged, yet no one thought to open it up and view that the feeder was also damaged. I opened the box while still in the store so the employees could witness. The feeders load door was bent at one corner so the lid wouldn't function as it should. The lower door would get stuck in the open position and there were three rivets that were pulled through the light gauge sheet metal. I made this purchase for the occasional out of town travel and was leaving town that same day I received this item. So, re-ordering and waiting another 6+ days was out of the question. Was I offered a discount for the damaged merchandise? No. They put me in a spot, so I took it and made the needed repairs to the lid, door, drilled out and installed new pop rivets. I cannot recommend this feeder in good faith.walla2k5

We bought this feeder for 5 dogs, different ages, breeds and sexes. We rescue and foster on a regular basis and needed something for automatic or self feeding on few occasions. It is very hard for them to use. Most of the dogs have to lay down to eat. We have been through several types of food trying to solve the issue of the food not being able to fall down enough for the dogs to get to it. It is extremely loud when they stick their heads in and out to feed. We were really disappointed with the product. We researched and bought from our local store. We were unable to take the product back, even for store credit. We are currently in the process of trying to build a stand in order to work around the dogs laying down to eat as well as being able to knock it over. At this point the product is a little over a month old and I hate it.MrsH2010

What I like best is its simplicity. My dog likes it too. I like its smaller size so its not too heavy to refill and the water is fresher because its filled more frequently.wendeternal1

I feel like this product has a lot of potential, however, it doesn’t work that well with the brand of cat food that my cats eat. The food has a really difficult time falling down into the bowl unless I scoop it out into the bowl myself with my hand. This creates an issue with the bowl going empty and never refilling itself. I suppose with smaller sized food pieces this would work great, but if you use Meow Mix this might not be the feeder for you.Hunter

It does what it’s advertised to do HOWEVER the threshold for the water is too high in my opinion. It fills the water to the very edge (almost about to spill), which causes a lot of spillage on the sides when my dog drinks water. I have to put it on top of a pee pad just to catch the excess so my wood floors don’t get damaged. It doesn’t leak if you leave it in one place but if you move it just a little to adjust position then all hell breaks loose and water goes everywhere. Honestly would rather just stick to a regular bowl. Cool idea but definitely needs some design tweaks.wzhang

At first I really liked this waterer. It holds a good volume of water, and the mechanism to be able to remove the water tank without dumping water everywhere is very convenient. However, that mechanism involves a metal spring which sits in the water dish in the base–it sits in water–24/7. It has become completely rusted, even though I have tried to scrub off the rust multiple times. I don't want my cat drinking rust water! This is not safe for pets. I'm very disappointed, because it is now too late for me to return it.CP

I have 6 cats, which means the food bowl is always in need of filling. This large, gravity style feeder is perfect for that. No more hungry kitties, meowing about an empty bowl. This feeder isn't made out of the sturdiest plastic, the clear container part has some flex to it. It's not flimsy, but I wouldn't qualify it as sturdy either. It should hold up just fine with cats, but if you have a large dog, it might take a beating. I liked that the stickers on the container peeled off easily and didn't leave any sticky residue behind. This feeder will hold about 10 pounds of small kibble. I think with larger dog kibble it would probably only between 5-7 pounds.JtownCatLady

I purchased the 1.2 gallon one for my cat who drinks a lot of water. I clean it and change the water once per week and the bottle is still about 1/3 full when I change it. It’s working great and my cat adjusted to it instantly. However I find it a little difficult to pull the bowl off the bottle when I want to refill it, but I manage. You have to be careful after you attach the bowl and turn it over because you do lose some water, which is why I do it over the sink. Also, after 4 months of using it the cap has cracked almost all the way around the top, however it still seems to be working without any issues. My husband just glued the top with some silicone so I’m hoping that does the trick. I guess for a little over $10 you get what you pay for. I wish Walmart would sell just the replacement cap.cherdani

I received my Vibrant Life 10 pound feeder promptly from my carrier. It came packaged well and there was no marks or dents on the feeder. This is a big feeder made of tuff plastic. I rinsed the cat feeder with warm water and dried it so the cat food would not get wet when I filled it. I then filled the Vibrant Life feeder with dry cat food, if you buy you cat food by the 10 pound bag this is perfect. I have two cats a petite one and a big fury one, and soon as I filled the feeder with dry food they went for it. This feeder is perfect for my busy lifestyle as the cats can eat whenever they want and not wait around for me to fill their dish everyday. I gave the product 4 stars because the bowl has to get pretty low before the dry cat food will start to fill up the bowl. My two cats prefer a full bowl so I just sweep my hand back and forth in front of the spout and move the dry cat food back as it fills. It just takes a few second to do this and the bowl will stay full enough for days. I would surely recommend this Vibrant Life 10 pound feeder to everyone.cedar

Bought several pet waterers and they have all had issues. This is the best one ive ever found. Its not too light that it can get knocked over and it holds enough water that it doesnt need to be changed every day. Bowl and container are both made of a thick plastic that seems like it will be long lasting.countryluvin

Love this, used to have the automatic food and water ones, after a couple years the flaps that control the portion control eventually broke off and it became a free feeder anyways so this is better because it holds way more and is easier to clean and the automatic water fountains get annoying over time because they don't seem to clean well anymore and you get tired of having to take it apart and clean fur out of the nasty pump and this holds a ton more water, so for a lot of reasons these are way easier, cheaper and bigger. With two cats I maybe have to fill both once every two weeks, but maybe not even that often, especially on the food. For everyone who has a problem with pets knocking them over, I've always had what's pictured at the end of my island to keep all my pet stuff in the baskets and these two fit perfectly in there so there won't be any knocking over. Think it was two target or Wal-Mart shelves and baskets I just left a shelf out of each for the feeders to fit. The water does make a kind of loud glug sound when the level goes down and it fills (it's not often), it startled my cats the first time or two, now there's no reaction and they continue on so its not a problem. I got the largest size ones, the 3 gallon for water and 12 lb for food and they are the same size. I don't get all the bad cap reviews for the water one, maybe the cap issues are for the smaller models? I'm not sure what all those bad reviews are about, the model I have the cap is normal and easy, but I don't over tighten it.A.B.

This is a very handy feeder for small pets such as cats as three pounds can feed for many days – especially useful during travels. The design is simple yet works (by gravity). The plastics used is clean and has no chemical odors upon arrival. The transparent middle portion is practical as it can clearly show how much is left in reservoir. Stability can be improved with a heavier base in future versions, if any. Made in USA.G.

I really like the look of this feeder and it works great for my three kitties. This is actually a replacement for one I had. Don't make the mistake I did and put it in the dishwasher. The clear plastic melted. I should have known better. I am glad I was able to purchase the same one.debbie

These were perfect! The food feeder holds a week's food for my outdoor cats so I don't have to worry about them. I use the waterer for my two Indoor cats. My youngest.cat likes to drag his old water dish around, sloshing water all over the place! But he can't budge the new one because of the 2-gallon water jug. I love it!toad0219

Personally, I like it very much, it is definitely a little eye-catcher. In some places there are small inaccuracies which do not bother me, because if you don't look very closely, they won't be noticed at all. It was easy to assemble and it is stable. I personally can recommend the article.Linda

Purchased for my Mastiff. It is not designed properly. The eating area where food sits should by designed at an angle towards the hatch similar to a trough making it easier for dogs with a large head to have access to the food. My dog had a hard time putting his head in to get to the food towards the back which makes more food come down. My dog ended using the 25lb Chow Hound which is normally used by my small terriers. The food hatch is under 10 inches in width. This is for large dogs but access area to food is small. Compared to my other gravity feeders where the food hatch is almost 15 inches wide my small dogs could fit in the eating area. The value for this item especially when considering the price just is not there. I would not recommend this item solely based on the price. There aren't many gravity feeder options that hold over 40lbs of food that aren't getting into the agriculture/farming/ hunting realm. I would consider these options prior to this gravity feeder. The materials used are quality plastics. The feeder may feel flimsy but it is pretty solid considering the materials. The edges to the area surrounding the food hatch are course, my dogs tended to avoid the feeder because of this as well. Do not buy.Joel

Works great. Food stayed dry in the rain. It takes the dog a few days to learn to push the flap open to eat but it works for weekends away when you can't take your dog.MlBelz

Don't overload it and if the kibble is left to naturally fall, the door will always shut all the way. Have yet to use the waterer, but looks well constructed. Needs to be set on level ground to operate correctly. The food is still dry after a couple days of rain.AlaskaR

We love the Neater Feeder! My dog, Jax, is around 50 pounds and is classified as a cocker spaniel, so he is not extremely tall. The large version of the Express is perfect for him as far as height. I researched a similar solution for this purpose from different companies. I am glad I chose the Neater Feeder, as the system is of very good quality and is a fair price. I read in some of the reviews that the bowls were not very nice, but I am not sure what was meant, as they are also of good quality. I like the look of this product and I feel it completely gives me everything I was looking for in the way of a pet feeder. This is our second one now that we have 3 cats. We have one for the dry food and one for the water. They are definitely neat and oraganized, unlike my teenage boys who manage to get the dry food all over the top when they are refilling the bowls. Kinda defeats the purpose, right? You have to remember to clean the bottom part regularly for the water because stuff sits for days and gets all yucky. The only thing the cats don’t seem to like is if you let the stainless steel bowls sit (and don’t wash the bowls out every other day), it develops a film and apparently changes the taste of the water. The cats quit drinking much if it gets to that point. When you are super busy, things like this are easy to overlook.Sherrilee

I am very pleased with the fact that the Neater Feeder has been helpful in keeping water off my floor. It is a nice looking feeding station and easy to clean. I think the concept for this product was great… a product much needed. Upon receiving my unit I was surprised to not see the unit and bowls wrapped for protection and what I did find was a unit that was a bit scuffed u and two damaged bowls. Honestly, I felt the bowls were thin and cheaply made. The positive note is that once I contacted customer service, they responded promptly and then sent out two new bowls very quickly. They were both pleasant and efficient to deal with… not easy to find that kind of customer service these days, so I much appreciated this about this family owned business. Unfortunately I still had issues with the unit and mostly with the bowls. When the new bowls came, I immediately washed them and proceeded to dry them… I was surprised to see black on the cloth I was using to dry them. I washed them again, filled them up and put them down for the pets (I use both for water only). Shortly afterwards as I passed the bowls the water didn't look right to me… like there were little specks in the water. I immediately took them up and emptied them only to find there was some type of residue if I rubbed with my finger. I proceeded to use my own bowls, not a perfect fit but they work. As for the unit itself, I feel it too could be better made. The two separate pieces don't exactly sit well into each other and the unit then tends to wobble a wee bit, but once I put the filled water bowls in it and placed on a small area rug, it eliminates that wobble. All in all I think the concept behind this product is great… something truly needed. I just wish the unit was a bit more refined and that the bowls were of better quality. I would prefer to pay less for the unit and purchase better bowls on my own. As I mentioned, I am using my own bowls since I'm not sure these bowls may turn out to be a health concern.Linda P.

I bought this automatic feeder for our cat to allow her biscuits whilst we are either later at work or out for the day. It is battery AA run. The timer is not time related but hourly, so you set it to open anything from 1 hour to 48 hours. You can put wet food in as the product comes with a gelice pack but we have only put biscuits in.Th only downside is our cat is managing to get the feeder open slightly before the set time. We are not sure how she is doing this but it is not really a problem to us as she is still getting fed without having to wait for us to return home.Mrs M Garlick

I bought this one gallon size for my 2 dogs. One is 40lbs and the other is 60lbs. I use this when I need to put them in the backyard temporarily while I clean my house or if we travel visiting family and instead of bringing a bowl and waste water. The spout holds the water in great while we travel. I DO NOT recommend utilizing this 1 gallon size for any dogs if you are planning on leaving the dogs outside while your at work for 10 to 12 hours and if it happens to be a hot day as the water will not last. I would recommend a bigger one. You can put ice into this container. However, DO NOT over fill with ice. If you put to much ice and your pet drinks all the water down to the ice and IF there is more water left over, the ice WILL BLOCK the remaining water and your pet can not get to the water until the ice melts.Amazon C.

Bought this for my 2 rabbits because they were always tossing around their heavy, ceramic water bowls, as well as getting hay and other debris in them. This automatic water dispenser is working out perfectly! We can still take the jug out to clean the bowl itself, but there is a constant amount of water dispensed as needed and my rabbits can also drink at the same time for a communal experience, which they seem to be enjoying. I should also mention that it comes with an extra dispensing plunger for the jug in case the first one breaks, so I was very pleased with that. Quality product!D. G.

I had originally purchased water dispensers for our two outside dogs at our local pet supply store but because of the design, frogs would climb inside the bowl and then crawl further inside and hide underneath the area where the bowl attached to the water canister. When I saw the design of this water dispenser, with the small opening for the water to come from the canister through to the bowl, I knew there would be no place for a frog to hide inside and that they wouldn't even try since there is no place for them to go. So I ordered two of these to replace the larger ones that we had, and thank goodness the crazy frog problem is gone. These water dispensers are not very large, but for my two small outside dogs, they are large enough. They hold a gallon of water (picture a gallon jug of milk), and here in Texas where the dogs' water can start to get that green appearance after just three or four days during the hot summer months, we have to clean and refill the water dispensers frequently, and these water dispensers are so much easier to clean than the large cumbersome ones that we had. I expect that during the cooler winter months, they will hold enough water for our two dogs to last at least a week or slightly longer. I am very happy with the quality of these and am glad that I purchased them.D. W.

I bought my first Artisan Fossil double dog feeder off of a clearance site, after it had been marked down quite a bit. At first I thought that it was kind of pricey, but when I opened it up … WOW! This is a nice feeder. And it’s great looking, too. I have six Welsh Corgis, all are kept in the house. Corgis can (and will) test anything. I wasn’t sure that this feeder would last long. I couldn’t have been more wrong. The finish on this feeder is not painted or glued on – it’s the actual wood. And it’s water proof. This feeder has water in it 24/7. It’s never sloppily wet. The bowls hold the water where it belongs – in the bowl. The bowls are deep and hold a lot. They are white, so the water always looks clean. You can easily see if there is dirt or food in there. The bowls come out of the feeder easily and wash up nicely. Now, these bowls are ceramic material. I thought that they might break easily. I was wrong. After a year of constant licking and lapping, puppies playing through, filling, emptying, washing, scrubbing (I have a little rust in my water) drying – there’s not a chip or a scratch. And if there was, they sell replacement bowls! I could wrap my year old feeder/waterer up and pass it off for new! Six Corgis could not damage this feeder! So, if you want to treat yourself and your dog to something special, buy this feeder. There is also a single model, if that’s your preference. And even models for extra small dogs.Cherie

This is such an excellent product. It has removed any inconsistencies in our feeding patterns. Programming feeding times and amounts through the app is quite simple. Best of all, since we can program a feeding in the early morning hours, it has stopped one of our cats from coming to wake us up at 4 am looking for food.David B.

After a long weekend trip in which we almost didn't make it back on the intended day due to a flight cancellation, and we couldn't rely on a cat sitter because my partner hadn't fulfilled his responsibility to find one, I decided enough was enough and looked for an automatic feeder for our cat. After reading multiple articles and watching several YouTube review videos, I decided on the Feeder Robot. The first one I received ended up having a defect, and when I emailed and called Whisker customer service, they were very responsive and helpful and provided me a replacement right away. With the second Feeder Robot, I followed Whisker's instructions for getting my cat accustomed to it, and he was adjusted to it in less than a week. It's been over a month now, and everything is working great. We've also needed to put our cat on a diet, and the Feeder Robot makes this very easy with the 1/8 cup portion dispenser. I know the Feeder Robot is expensive, but this device is worth every penny. Not only does it automate a tedious daily task, but it also gives me peace of mind that my cat will have food if I'm ever delayed in getting back home. I highly recommend it!AC
