I have been using these large Permate dog houses to house my Nigerian Dwarf goats for many years. They have made "affordable housing" for my goats. I will say that my bucks (boys) are much harder on the houses than the does (girls). Both genders jump on top, but the bucks crack the rain shield by jumping on top of the houses. This happens after a while, not right away. I don't blame the company that makes these because they are intended for dogs, not goats that love to climb! I do wish the tops would be stronger to prevent this problem from happening. Another area to improve design would be for the top to somehow lock on to the base. When my Great Pyrenees (GP) dog goes inside to lay down, the lid can lift/tilt off. The large size is not big enough for a GP. The price keeps going up, and I'm not pleased with having to pay more. I wait until the neighbor club coupon comes out to buy any needed replacement houses. Over the years I've bought countless Permate Large dog houses, so I know these pretty well! My Lab and Australian Shepherd love these large Petmate houses too.Farmer Johns
Looks very nice and hardy but it floods when it rains, I don't know how but the water gets inside and it is too much water. I put a crate pad inside for my outdoor cat to stay warm and went to check on my cat a few hours later after it rained, and the pad was soaking wet not to mention the house was full of water more water than what was outside . The dog house comes in two parts – top and bottom. They do not snap together; the top merely sits on the bottom. No hardware is provided to attach the two and even if there was there are no holes through which one would thread screws or bolts (or whatever) to keep the dog house together. I use these for my goats because these houses are inexpensive but the goats knowingly and regularly have fun pushing up on the exit/entrance hole to "break" the house into two pieces. Yes, I laugh at their antics but I still plan to drill holes and use nuts/bolts to keep the top and bottom together.L McGaffey

This dog house is much larger than I thought and for the price totally worth it! OG has added some great thoughtful accessories to this dog house; including the newspaper. I like that you can open the one flap for easier play. This is very helpful for children with younger siblings that want to join in on the play. I'm using this as an outdoor waterer for a rabbit. Selected this hoping the filters would prevent mosquitos from getting in water tank and reproducing as they had in my big poultry waterer. So far it seems to be working. Nice that it's easy to lift off tank to clean metal dish, too. Doesn’t automatically dispense water at least half of the time. I’ve had to start walking by and checking/adjusting the jug multiple times a day bc the jug was visibly full but my dog was acting thirsty. Bc of the stainless bowl it’s hard to see unless you’re up close that there’s not actually any water in the bowl, despite the tank being full. I have to wiggle it or sometimes pick it up entirely in order to get water flowing again. It’s a great concept but it’s not built very well. I bought both the large and medium versions of this PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Stations for my dogs. These PetSafe versions are much better water stations than other water stations that I've owned recently. First, the fill caps are exactly the same and interchangeable between both the large and medium version. The fill caps also have spring cut off valves and a closable plug valve that is used with an added filter. The somewhat strange shape of their water reservoir bottles make the bottles much easier to carry. The black handles on the water bottles are primarily used to lock the bottles into the plastic bases. You can carry the larger bottle by its full grip handle, but not the medium bottle as there is no handle opening to wrap your hand around with the medium bottle's handle. Both of the water stations have a removable metal water bowls/basins which is dishwasher safe. About the only thing negative thing about these PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Stations is that they do NOT come with the special water filters as I expected them to because the filters were listed as "included" on the items web page. So I was a little irritated that these water stations didn't come with their water filters. My order took about a week to 10 days to arrive and they arrived on the same day in separate shipping boxes. These items were not shipped in their retail boxes but were instead sent in simple clear plastic bags that were taped closed.BillyDeeMe

I bought my first about 20 years ago, then shortly after bought another. My dogs passed, so I gave them to a neighbor, which still has them in use. I recently got a medium breed puppy, so I went and got another since I had such good service out of the first two. I would highly recommend to anyone with a pet outside. We get some snow where I live and my dogs always stayed warm and dry.
I mistakenly bought the Large doghouse for dogs up to 90 lbs. But my 5 month old coonhound was too large for it. I returned it and ordered the X-large doghouse and it is the right size. Unfortunately, the doghouse was broken in two places, probably due to the way you ship. These doghouses are delivered without any protection and will crack or break when sliding into anything. I will have to repair it to hold it together since I don't trust you are able to send another one without the same issues.Daniel

Bought this for our 7 month old Pyrador puppy, who has already outgrown one house. It was easy to put together, and the sturdist dog house we've ever seen. Plus being insulated is perfect for a cold Indiana winter. She's huge and still growing and loves it. The first night she slept in front of it despite dog treats inside. It’s a great doghouse. He’s already tried chewing the top roof corners off but it hasn’t hurt the integrity of the house. He also won’t get in it. I’m not sure why, because he did get in his crate when it was in his dog pen. He’s a 9 month old GSP. I’m hopeful once he reaches adulthood he’ll stop eating it and actually get in it. I’d totally buy it again though. It’s a great doghouse! I just have a strange dog. He also can’t get on top of it because there isn’t any grip and he slides off. That helps with him not jumping out of the 6’ tall pen.
We got this house for a new Boxador puppy so that it can spend most of its time outside. We found it to be a good product. It was easy to put together and does stay much warmer than the outside air. In rainy weather, it stays dry. It is a very large house which would work for a lab or other large dog. No problems with the dog using the door. Only suggestion: add nuts and bolts for the 6 screws. Screwing metal into plastic is not a real good plan. I'm assuming the company will have replacement parts (door, window, etc…) available for my investment!Y Robinson

Bought this for our 7 month old Pyrador puppy, who has already outgrown one house. It was easy to put together, and the sturdist dog house we've ever seen. Plus being insulated is perfect for a cold Indiana winter. She's huge and still growing and loves it. The first night she slept in front of it despite dog treats inside. Second night was cooler, she decided to check it out so the head and front paws went thru the swinging door first, and after she had stood that way for about 5 minutes, walked all the way in, and has loved it ever since. My dog seems to love his new doghouse. It's very roomy and super easy to assemble. It's insulated too so hope it keeps him warm. We got this house for a new Boxador puppy so that it can spend most of its time outside. We found it to be a good product. It was easy to put together and does stay much warmer than the outside air. In rainy weather, it stays dry. It is a very large house which would work for a lab or other large dog. No problems with the dog using the door. Only suggestion: add nuts and bolts for the 6 screws. Screwing metal into plastic is not a real good plan. I'm assuming the company will have replacement parts (door, window, etc…) available for my investment!Y Robinson

I just got my dog house all set up and wow! It’s great! While my 50lb border collie is a little hesitant of it, I think he will grow accustomed to it! Assembly was not too hard and only took about an hour and a half, I liked the slide and lock mechanics of connecting the walls. The divider wall, heater mount, and hydraulic lid are great features. It is a pretty large dog house but I have a large dog so it is needed, it gives him room to turn around and lay down however he likes. Thanks lifetime!Jordo
This dog house is actually big enough to fit both of our dogs. It took about an hour and 15 minutes for my husband to put it together. The item is super sturdy but light enough that he could carry it and reposition it without any help. The top locks down and easily opens up for us to be able to put their bed in. I love the fact that there is a place to put a space heater for the times they need to stay out for a bit. We’ve had a doghouse before and it just didn’t hold up well after being out in the weather. Lifetime makes such great products that hold up season after season and I know this will be great just like our deck box.Cj C
This dog house was sent to me by Lifetime products to review and I have nothing but good things to say. This dog house is extremely nice quality and over all easy to build. I absolutely love that the roof is an easy to open lid that can be used when you're cleaning it out or needing to check inside. It's big enough to fit my 35 lb dog's bed in there and still have room for other things. The middle panel is removable which I absolutely love. Though I believe I could've built this on my own, having another person helped the building process even easier. Some of the pieces are heavy and big so it helped having another person being able to hold the other end. With 2 people it took us about 2 hours to put it all together. Tools are a must for building, I recommend having a drill and a socket wrench. I highly recommend watching the YouTube videos, they're easy to follow along and are a great visual. Everything is labeled and organized and written down in the instructions that come with the product. The written instructions come in handy when you need to know what items to use in each step. I absolutely love the quality that Lifetime brings to all of their products and the dog house is no exception to this.Madi

I have used these type of doghouses for years to house my indoor cats' litter pans. Not only do they help to contain the litter that always seems to make it out of the pan, they also act as an odor barrier and preserve my flooring from "over reaches". The fountain is very easy to assemble and hook up. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure it out. It's light weight and easy to move around. It is made out of hard plastic so it should last. There was a couple of spots that looked like it was fading or coming off but it wasn't discouraging enough to send back. Wish it was a little taller but it is very well detailed. You don't have to mess with hoses or drill any holes. You just place where you want it, make sure the tube is straight, hook the pump up with the tube, place the pump in the center of the fountain, fill with water and then you plug it in.Joe the Gardner

I just got this dog house and paid somebody to put it together. Only to find out that it is not extra large. I would consider it medium size. Won’t even fit my lab mix. The flooring and it is also raised and does not feel super sturdy. I would say this house in the size ‘extra large’ is for a 45 pounds and under dog. Will be returning. Very cute though.Aspensdogmom
We were looking for a dog house for our 75 lb German Shepherd & we wanted one he would continue to grow into. This fit the bill. Product arrived quickly and un damaged. Set up was painless and easy. Opening is big enough for him & plenty of room to plop down inside. In less than a year he did break one of the roof attachment rails. Working with New Age Pet wasn't a bad experience and the replacement parts arrived quickly enough. I wish the roof attachment rails were not plastic & were metal to withstand a bit more doggy & wind abuse. But other than that no complaints.CaptainCaveman78
I was looking for a dog house for my two dogs (one 50 lbs the other 60 lbs) to share. I am very happy with this dog house. It's not made out of flimsy wood like a lot of the other houses I looked at. The corrugated ecoflex material is very sturdy and this house is very simple to put together. Each piece is numbered and laying the pieces out in ascending order makes putting this house together a breeze. My dogs fit just fine inside the house and they'll be able to keep each other warm this winter. They are medium sized dogs so they're not very tall, if this house were to be purchased for a large breed the buyer MAY find this house to be too short. ex. A great dane would NOT be able to stand up and turn around in it. I've only had his house for a few weeks so I can not comment on the longevity of this product. The only downfall I've noticed so far is that it does get a little wet on the inside when it rains, I believe they make a plastic flap that can go over the door to help eliminate this problem, I just haven't looked into it yet. It's not extra large, that's for sure. It's a large. My two Berner males at 94-lbs and 120-lbs don't go in because they can barely turn around in it. Nor my 88-lb Pyrenees. The material itself is great. But isn't the point that the dog can get in/out of it so they use it? My smaller 72-lb female uses her Ex-Lg. So is it really the size a medium dog should use? I spent $$ for 5 Extra Lg and 1 dog uses it. Not a happy camper.SCloudcroft
I own 6 of these quality XL dog houses for my Great Pyrenees dog, as well as, my pygmy goats. My goats actually prefer them to there fully enclosed barn. MINNESOTA Winter or Summer, they love to cuddle sometimes 2-3 per igloo. I have never needed to use the flap doors. I think the ventilation is more important. As a bonus they are a great climbing structure, even my guardian dog can be found balancing on top to get a better view of potential predators in the distance. One temporary drawback is the base can be difficult to disassemble from the top, for the first few cleanings. But a large screw drivers works well to pry them apart and they "break in" quite quickly. As my herd grows, I will keep adding these amazing shelters. Thanks Petmate!
Purchased a second XL house for our two Great Pyrenees because they no longer fit in one together. Our original is over 15 years old and is in great shape.
