It is heavy duty for a big dog with nice big easy to use snaps at each end. This is the second one of these that I've had in three years, with a different brand in between. With every brand of these cables that I've ever used, they get weak over time. The plastic sheath on the outside gets brittle after a while, then starts cracking. Once the sheath cracks, then the cable starts rusting, then strands break one by one. I've never had a cable completely break, but always replace them when that starts to happen. Been purchasing heavy duty "tie outs" for a long time, spending way too much money for name brand. This cable is just as good if not better than the higher cost name brands. What I find is great is where the cable attaches to the snap is not metal but covered in plastic and so does not rust or bend which is a cause for cable breaking. The cable is completely covered in protective plastic" which is flexible not hard and this helps keep the cable from rusting and cracking. My dog is 145 pounds, is a jumper and a puller. Excellent total package. Put a 70 lb strong active pit bull on this cable run and he's doing great. I considered going to the hardware store and purchasing all the items needed to build my own heavy duty dog run system but you can't do it for this package price. The leash is attached to an all steel well made unit that has a swivel so that the cable can't get twisted which is super important. The cable that runs between 2 big trees is 60 feet long which is a great length. The leash cable however is only 10 feet long. I'd like to see the leash maybe 12 to 15 feet long but 10 feet isn't bad. It all beats the heck out of a chain around a tree for sure. He's thrilled that he can now actually run back and fourth and seems so much happier.todd6939

Very nice length and color. The one clip is already getting stuck. Unable to open or if I finally get it open won't close. I also noticed sum rusty color to it already. Only had out for about 2 weeks if that. It is light weight perfect for smaller toy breed dogs or cats. I would suggest maybe spraying the clamps/hooks with a rust prevention spray if you have one. I bought 4 tie outs before this 1 and they all were similar to what thos 1 looks like and same material however the end of the 4 that I bought before this 1 didn't come with the plastic coating on them so they all rusted up fairly quickly and the clasps was all ways sticking so i had to spray them with lubricant constantly but this 1 has the plastic coating on the ends as well as a rust resistant coating of some kind on the clasps so I have yet to have them sticking on me so I haven't had to spray them down with lubricant and a great plus to this 1 is the glow in the dark green coating on the cable itself is assume at night time even if i cannot see my dog I still know where he is..ghrem_2016

I am about to buy my third one and I wouldn't if I wasn't happy with the product. He wraps it around and knots it up, then the coating breaks, then rusts, and he breaks it. I am going to put the ground anchor close to house this time so that he can't tangle it up. If you consider placement you should have no problems. It is sturdy and well built. My only complaint is, the clasp. I think the clasp is too big for this specific model. Our dog (10 lbs Maltese) was struggling to move around with it. The person who recommended to me has the large version for his German Shepard and it uses the same size clasp. I had to take a trip to my local hardware store to pick a new clasp and some hardware to reattach the cable. After some fiddling, cursing and two beers I was able to fix it. The retractable leash is a great idea. Ideal for camping with 3 large dogs. However there is a major flaw in the mounted design, which caused the weld to snap within 5 days of use. Fortunately, we are handy enough to McGuyver a solution, but otherwise the product would be useless. The second major flaw is in the tension of the lead-which doesn't seem to hold itself when extended-so it continually pulls on the dogs neck. At one point, our golden was able to duck out of her collar & take off with kids down the beach as a result. For our older. Coonhounds, the tension is too much and uncomfortable for them. As you can see, I have posted a modified version of the product, and a pic of the 85lb dog. The dog is a blood hound, and ripped the tether off the bracket within the first 2 mins. I bought one for each of my dogs. After several weeks there were so many kinks & they tangle very quickly. Also, the plastic coating started to crack within a month leaving the steel to rust. I used electrical tape to cover the cable, so at least that was able to be resolved pretty easily, except I had to do that in 4 areas so far. Besides these issues, I gave this 3 stars because they do seem pretty sturdy & I like the type of clasp that's provided on this lead. We had been using the 30' medium cable on our 30 pound beagle for approx the last 18 months. No real issues other than minor rusting on the hooks causing it to become a bit difficult to hook/unhook the cable to the dog's collar until last night. After an 1.5 hr search of the neighborhood I returned home and just by chance saw him running across our front yard into the street and was able to get close enough to him to grab the broken cable. After looking at the cable carefully you can see what appears to be rust on the bottom 2 feet. Id expect these to wear out over time but 1.5 years to rust enough to the point where a dog well under the maximum weight can snap it is a bit ridiculous. Maybe a bad one, maybe poor Chinese steel but i am not risking loosing a pet with this product again.john aaa
This is a strong cable for my girl. The only thing I wish is that these cables came in 35’ lengths. Thirty is just a little too short, and 40’ is too long. I purchased the first cable 5 years ago. This speaks for its durability. I might purchase a 40 foot cable and adjust it to 35. Otherwise, I expect this cable to last as long as the first. The cable I bought has a flexible coil at one end. This has been great to take out hiking and camping. It is sturdy and my dog can carry it on his harness. Also makes tying him out safe and does not hurt the trees so we leave nature just as we found it. This is such a great idea for tying up your dog but still giving them freedom to move around without constantly getting tangled up. We could even play fetch with our dog while still having her tied up! The main downside was that you have to find trees the correct length apart; if they are too close together, the buckle will not tighten enough. Also, if there are trees or obstacles between your tie points, your dog will inevitably still manage to get tangled.
