I have a large Maine coon and knew I could not use just any spray. I had tried cheap flea drops and they did nothing. My big guy, 20 pounds and 3 feet of pure muscle, was unaffected by the drops and continuing to become more and more miserable. ENTER SCENE: ADVANTAGE! My husband and I tried this as a last shot before shelling out the money for a vet groomer flea bath. Well, as we are spraying this all over the big guy, the fleas were jumping ship, becoming paralyzed, and doing everything possible to get away from this stuff! A disgusting amount of fleas were pulled from his fluffy self and a million fleas were dead on the floor. I recommend putting paper towels down on the floor before starting so the clean up is easy. If spraying around the house or perimeter of your rugs you don’t need much. I sprayed the baseline of my Chihuahua (behind neck down to tail) and realized it was a bit much. It worked but not immediately. The purpose of my use was for flea eggs I spotted and some live ones on my dog as well. I recommend a flea bath first then the spray. It does have a strong smell. The can was gone in a single use. So again, reminder you don’t need to spray as much as you may think. It works!Taco2012

I just received this today and wow soon I apply and start working it to the skin I watched fleas die. It works amazing. Smells like strong alcohol but works great. Sprayed my cat and worked to the skin with fingers then towel dried and instant results and relief for my catRobert

It did its job as expected and advertised. It was easy to apply, did not cause irritation or have an overpowering smell. It seemed super oily to me, however I'm sure that is necessary for it to be effective. Also I got some on my skin and it did not cause irritation, even though my skin is very sensitive. So you don't have to worry about washing couches or furniture if you or your family members have sensitivity issues. And though it's obviously not something you can (or should) buy at a dollar store, it is very affordable considering you get a few months supply.rachel.b

To protect my dog from ticks, I put this on my dog once a month in the summer. I go camping a lot and while we were just in the woods for the weekend on the North Shore he didn’t get one tick. Word of advice though is to not let the oil touch anything because it stains and gets everywhere. That company has known about these deaths and medical emergencies for decades now, they don't care. Trust me, the fleas won't die but your animal will. This happened to my cat 10 yrs ago, attached is a pic of my beautiful CeCe, she was in a coma for a day but was lucky enough to survive. I contacted the company , they ended up paying for the $1500 vet bill but didn't admit it was their product that caused the emergency. I was on frontline for years but when I thought I saw a couple fleas on my dogs in September 2020, I decided to make a switch to Advantage II for my cats and Advantix II for my dogs— BIGGEST mistake of my life (seriously, like over any horrible exes). I have $515.97 in receipts I submitted to the company (which was as horrible as the experience, which I will get to) and spent an additional $70 in store (in which I cannot find the receipt) since September 2020 to December. I followed every tip on the website and insert and my animals were still covered. I applied perfectly. I applied initially weekly, vacuum daily, steam cleaned, wash bedding constantly, etc. I don’t even have carpet but on the stairs and have treated the stairs and couches with Predcor. I even bought those flea traps with the sticky bottoms. I am not including any of this in that total I spent– that was all on the flea medications themselves for the 6 animals. I have saved some, not all, of the vials so on 11/13 I called Elanco. They denied my request for any type of refund. They questioned my exact dosage dates and frequency more than a doctor wants to know about your menstrual cycles but I took my best guesses, for all 6 animals although I did know what schedule they were on but didn't have it in front of me. Then they said that the product was probably not working because I bathed my dogs initially at the beginning 48 hours before application?? Their website TELLS you to bathe them before application (see 2nd screenshot posted)! I stopped bathing them after the 2nd application as it wasn't working and the dogs were miserable and only tried 2 cats (and really only 1 successfully because we all know how that goes). They then told me that I didn't give the product long enough?? Their website states (see 3rd screenshot) and is the same for Advantage II "K9 Advantix® II kills fleas within 12 hours. New fleas that jump on the dog from the surroundings, such as grass, carpet and pet bedding, are killed within 2 hours with protection against further infestation for at least 4 weeks." I tried their products, $600 worth on 6 animals, as scheduled, no missed doses for 4 months. I can’t blame it on just one animal or one batch—it didn’t work on 6, or one batch! I am very upset. Not only have I wasted money on these but I have bought corresponding products, sprays for the beddings, flea traps, etc. I FINALLY called Terminex and had to spend 12 hours clearing out under my beds, closets, getting everything off my floors, moving furniture etc. (time I will never get back) and getting my children and pets out of the house and went back to the brand that works: FRONTLINE! NO MORE FLEAS– what I should have done in the first place. I am so upset not by the fact that the product didn't work but by the way the company handled it, dodging any responsibility from blaming it on the baths they recommend to the length of time I gave it when they could have just refunded me and had someone that isn't going to not only post this review every place I bought it (not just here) but every other place that allows a review to include social media.Intelhottie

We bought Advantix liquid application anti-flea and tick treatment because it is effective, was less expensive and did not require a prescription. We had easily and successfully used liquid Advantix for years with our Plott hound mix. We now have a beagle. Beagle hair is different; it's thick, coarse, oily, kind of water proof and difficult to part in order to properly apply the liquid to the skin. Advantix is a very good product, but pet owners may want to assess their pet's coat to determine how the liquid application could be applied.Gary

My dog was getting ticks so I purchased this. I have used it in the past with great success when it had the Bayer logo on it . The one I received has the Elanco brand logo on it. I used 1 bottle and It was like I used nothing at all. Mind you I walk my dog and when he comes in the house I would find 2 or 3 live ticks walking on him. So I figured ok maybe it didnt work or I didnt wait long enough. After about 10 days of this I applied another bottle and again nothing. He still kept coming in the house with ticks every time. So I'm not sure exactly what's going on but the package I received appeared to be authentic. All serial numbers matched and packages were sealed well. I been used this fore many years until my husky pass away. This product was a great shield from the ticks since we leave in tropical weather its normal the dogs catch some. Applied to all 5 of my dogs after bathing and drying them thoroughly and I have to say, for about a week, it actually worked but after a week it stopped working. I have 5 dogs and I cannot afford weekly applications nor would I expose my dogs to the chemicals that are in this product that often. So I do not recommendlori.t

I used this product this last season for my dog and he never got flees. I feel so much better using natural stuff than chemicals on him. It was very affordable. I am not someone who takes my dogs health lightly. I try to use natural products as much as possible. We had a tick outbreak and everything I tried did not work. I bought these drops for all the dogs. Put it on. Took about 3 days to completely soak into the coat but ticks have been unable to attach which is great. Over the last few days there have been less and less. These drops along with Diatomaceous Earth spread around the corners of the house and all the beds is doing the trick. I bought this product earlier this week. I read the instructions and made sure that my dog met the weight requirements for the product. It worked the first day. She stopped itching and biting. Im been an Advantage fan for a good 15 years. It is the only 100% effective flea treatment period. Believe me I've tried them all. Had fleas so bad that when it rained and you walked in my yard your legs would get covered. After using the Advantage Drops they were just gone. I mean gone. Its worked so well after years I only have to use it when my nieces dog visits. This time I decided to try this spray abd so far so good. He was in bad shape when he got to my house. Chewing himself up. I suspect he not only had fleas but also had dog lice. Only been a couple of weeks and he's looking much better. I included pictures to show his improvement. This spray is the only medication I used to treat him. I do not use flea shampoos because they do not work at all. Plus there is no need for it if you use Advantage products.AugieDoggie

This is a TON of liquid and its runny as water. It ran all down my cat!! I took a paper towel and tried to wipe off the excess before it made it all the way down her front legs. I didnt notice the smell at first but within 5 minutes, my entire living room, dining room, and kitchen smelled like a nail salon. I believed my cat had gotten into some nail polish remover somehow but then i noticed it was the medicine!!! It was SO SO STRONG!! I cannot explain the odor except it literally made 1000 sq feet of my home smell like a nail salon. This stuff is BAD!!!! I took my cat to the bathroom and washed her 2 times. I can still smell it in her fur but she wasnt going to let me shampoo her a 3rd time tonight. Ill try again tomorrow if I can still smell it. Works really well. Presley has been infested with fleas for the last several years (his human brother brought them from his birth Mom's house) and we have been having a super hard time getting rid of them! We use a combo of the flea cream and a flea collar. The collar tends to be strong and take off his fur around his neck, but helps with the fleas….and the monthly flea cream keeps them at bay month to month…along with weekly combing and a bath every 3 months.valerie.d

They have known it is an issue for decades but they are able to skirt the issue by using pesticides in their products instead of FDA monitored medications. I know most people use flea chews but I don't see the need because this seems to work for me, I do not have carpet in my house which may be why I've not had any infestations. This leads to her coming into the house, tracking dirt and the pesky fleas. We've done well to mitigate it in the past, but PetArmor helped in the process. I decided we’d use a topical solution for this summer and this is working great so far. The application was easy and the the applicator worked well. I’ve had to apply a different brand on foster puppies in the past and sometimes, the liquid would just all flow right out during the first contact, leaving no medicine for the rest of the dog’s back. It wasn’t the case with PetArmor. I had good control to dispense the product with their applicator. My dog had no discomfort whatsoever on the application sites. The product didn’t leave his coat all oily or smelly. I love that you can scan a QR code in the box and the brand will send a text 30 days later as a reminder for when the next dose is due. Their formula contains Fipronil and (S)-methoprene like most expensive well-known brands but at a more affordable cost. Ive tried expensive stuff, Ive tried dirt cheap stuff. This works and works FAST. I actually have to put my dogs out if they have fleas on them at all. Within 30 minutes they are jumping off to get away and die. Weve had issues with super fleas here in northeast USA where the only thing Ive found to work is old fashion dawn dish soap and salt.Ive literally spread salt on all my floors so it looks like snow and left it sit over night then vacuum it up and then mop with dawn dish soap, everyday for over a week straight. This stuff not only took care of the fleas on the dogs and cats but the ones in the house would jump on the dogs would die to. Havent had an issue since.Corvet08

I'm so glad that I got to try this first act plus for dogs and it works amazingly. I will most definitely keep using this product. At first I didn't think it would work that well as I have tried many different ones before. But after awhile of my dog having it on her she stopped scratching so much and you could see the fleas just fall off her dead. I have seen her scratching still but nothing bad and any flea that does jump on her dies. I would most definitely recommend that you get the powder for your floors as well and make sure you vacuum everything up just to get ride of any fleas you might have. I also noticed that this tevrapet don't have any order and it don't make your dogs hair all stiff after it dries. This one is only recommend for dogs so make sure you don't use it on you cats and make sure you get the one that matches the weight of your dog. They say to keep using this on your dog to make sure it kills everything and that the fleas don't come back. You will get enough for three months and after that it should break the cycle of fleas. Like every dog owner, we face flea problems with our dogs, which means we either treat our dogs for the problem before it happens or deal with the consequences of it afterwards. I've dealt with the problem after and did not like that experience, so for many years now, as long as products like this have been available, I've been buying flea and tick preventatives. We've pretty much prevented outbreaks in not only our home, but also our half-acre backyard as well for at least the past 15 years. I can't count how much money that has cost us, though, and I probably would not want to know, either, because I imagine it would pay for a new car or at least a used one. I had never heard of this brand, but was VERY interested to try it out, considering we have THREE dogs and the name-brand flea and tick preventatives are doing nothing but going up, it seems, every month. I couldn't believe how cheap this one is advertised to be and was hoping it would work. Well, it did work! While our dogs have all been on a name-brand preventative since they were rescued, I can always tell when it's time to do their monthly treatment, because one of the three will always start to scratch. They might as well have a bell attached to their foot, because it's like an alarm going off: "Mom, it's time for our flea medicine!" And sure enough, I'll look at the scratching dog and can even sometimes spot the offending flea. I'm horrified, of course, to see it, imagining it will multiply before my very eyes, and usually run at breakneck speed to the kitchen to retrieve the flea meds. This First Act Plus treatment was very easy to administer; no need to punch a hole in a bottle (I have a hard time with that for some reason) and then distribute it down their backs (and then wait for them to shake it off on your kitchen floor). Nope. Just cut the top off and empty it between the shoulder blades and you're done! I did the same with all three dogs. Never saw another scratch. Being quite experienced with this whole monthly process, I knew the First Act was working by the second day, as I never saw a single scratch out of a single dog (and I was on the lookout, as always). That was about two weeks ago, and still not a scratch out of any of them. No signs of side effects like a rash or itchiness or bald or "hot" spots, either. I'm sold. We recently started getting the TevraPet FirstAct Plus Flea and Tick Prevention for Dogs, as they are a comparable flea and tick prevention to Frontline. To be completely honest, I really am hesitant in trying to get off-brands when getting products for my most loved pups because I would hate for anything to happen to them at the hands of my own doing. But, beings that they are inside/outside dogs, I have to keep the fleas and ticks off them and out of our house. So, while my pups are outside, I take one at a time and cut the tip of the applicator off and apply the entire application to the middle of their shoulder blades. It is waterproof, which is nice in case they get wet (because we know it can happen even as much as you can try to keep them away from water). The applicator is very great to use, as it bends away and lets the “nozzle” be skinny and pointed to be able to direct the application where it is supposed to go. I love that there is only one spot needed to apply it to, rather than three different spots along their spine as I have done in the past with a different kind of preventative. There are three different applicators for three months prevention (one dog per box of course); however, I use these boxes for both my dogs, with one application for each dog. I have noticed less itching and less irritation for my sweet dogs after treating them with the TevraPet FirstAct Plus Flea and Tick Prevention! I am so thankful for the money I saved but in all honesty, the peace of mind I have to use this and how great it works. I have not noticed any fleas or ticks at all, so it has really helped at both keeping them at bay and getting rid of the already present issue. It's very distressing to find 3 happy engorged ticks on your dog 24 hours after treatment following all the requirements re: proper placement location on the dog, shaved the hair to make contact only on the skin, no water on the dog for 24 hours or at all after treatment. I was frankly, pretty shocked. This is an older small dog with arthritis. He is already in some pain and to find the ticks on him on top of this frankly really upset me. I breed Chihuahuas and I also foster cats/kittens. My Chihuahuas are litter box trained so they rarely get fleas because they dont spend a whole lot of time outside. We got our dogs last spring. So in order to protect them from fleas and ticks in the summer we bought some essential oils (recipe from the Internet) and sprayed the solution every day over our two dogs. It didn’t work well. I human owner Love the smell and ease of spray bottle- but, directions say to “turn locking tab” to open – that didn’t work and it took a bit of trying – it was an easy ‘push the button’. Once opened applied as suggested.- my Jack Russells allowed the application then promptly rolled all over the grass to ‘get rid of the smell’. See the videos. My male Jack (Ralph) is OK with the smell after about 5 minutes – Pippa (female) not so much. I’ll consider upping the # of stars if they come back from running in tall grass tick free. Tick season was BAD this year, but even after all the hikes we took our two dogs on, we didn’t have one tick. No issues with fleas either. We spray this if pups are going on a walk and or playing in the yard for an extended time. The smell is wonderful and definitely lingers for a period of time. Not only do we apply this to our dogs, but also ourselves. We were amazed when we went hiking and fishing over the summer and mosquitos were so thick. This is a very nice product and it works very well. We live in NH where there are lots of nasty ticks and this stuff works really well. I rarely find any ticks on my pup. Baxter has longer hair so it does tend to gum up a bit but I find if I give him a really good curry and brush him out really well it actually makes his coat softer without being gummy or greasy. This product is supposed to contain 2.5 ml per vial for the "large dog" size. I bought several that appeared short, so I measured the volume. The 3 vials measured (2 different packs) were closer to 2ml per vial. Therefore, there is a question about the efficacy of the volume/rate provided. I really like the active ingredient combination in the generic and the premium Bayer product, and prefer it helping prevent mosquito-vectored illnesses, in addition to fleas and ticks. I tried this no for 2 years. 1st year I only found one engorged tick. this year I've seen 5. engorged. after three monthly treatments. 3 I removed myself, 2 dropped on my floor. though I have not found any fleas what so ever. I'm done with this product. I'm opting for a chewable oral prevention. I read they're more effective then topical meds.Djcountry

I started purchasing Advecta 3 around April of this year. I have a Pitbull/St Bernard mix that has horrible flea allergies. I have tried every flea med on the market and Advecta is the only one he hasn't had any type of reaction to!! I'm so impressed with this product.. he had hair missing around his but and was chewing his tail and feet. Since using Advecta he has stopped all chewing and the constant scratching, he has a beautiful coat. I usually apply every 25 days because between the first application and second was 30 days and I did find a couple fleas but that's not a biggy. Beejers (a rescue Pom-Chi) is just 7 lbs and I used the expensive stuff on him the first 3 months when he came to his forever home with the 2 Bengals & I, cuz it said "WATER-PROOF". Beej is a real stinky little thing & needs bathing often. He loves his baths & will go & jump in the shower when HE thinks he needs one! Fat chance of that expensive stuff being water-proof !! Poor little guy got a TICK in his little ear & brought in a few FLEAS between monthly applications. I have had lymes & am petrified of ticks. A herd of deer (notorious for dropping fleas & ticks) cross/graze on the lawn daily. Have used Sentry Fipro on the cats for 8 yrs. with excellent results, so ordered some for him. Beejers has used Fipro 15 months now, gets 3-4 baths per month and has NEVER had fleas or ticks since using Fipro & he is an outdoors lover. Mosquitos hover but DO NOT lite even on his nose. Fipro does make a real greasy looking spot ONLY where applied & it picks up a bit of dust. This lasts 3 days MAX. Fur in that spot sticks up straight & looks a bit like a gelled Punk style! LEAVE it alone, brush AROUND it until disappears. When people notice the greasy Punk I just tell them we are trying out a new look. Never fails to get a chuckle! I purchased three 6 month supplies for my 3 dogs, all ranging in size from 14lbs-110lbs. I live in a crazy flea ridden area. Southern swamp fleas are really tough to keep away. If you've got the money, go with Nexgard. We don't, so we tried this product out. It works just as well as Frontline, which here, isn't wonderfully but good enough. When we lived in IL Frontline was plenty. We also wash pet bedding often, and use food grade diatomaceous earth. You've eaten it many times without realizing, farmers use it on wheat and other crops to kill destructive insects (caterpillars and other wormies with exoskeletons). This is a very safe method for killing adult fleas, hopefully before they can lay eggs. Don't buy the pool stuff, get food grade. Sprinkle it on the carpet before vacuuming. Once fleas come into contact with it, they die within 4 hours – it slices up their exoskeletons. Obviously we can't coat every flea, but doing this regularly really cuts down on the problem (nyuk) and is much safer than harsh chemicals – plus, no smell. Just like talcum powder, flour, and other particulates, avoid breathing it in, as it can be an irritant to your and your pet's lungs (no tossing it in the air and dancing under it naked, but a little shouldn't hurt). For those hard to vacuum areas like under furniture, sprinkle a bit and leave it. There are also these bulb things you can buy to spread the dust more evenly, but it's cheap so we just use a sifter or shaker bottle with small holes. We killed them inside, but they kept reappearing. We realized we have a screened in porch with sand and gravel right outside the back door. Fleas love that stuff. Sprinkled it in the gravel and added the porch to the regular DE routine and now it's unusual to find those devils. Our dog has bad allergies to fleas, so they still irritate him but once they've bitten him they're kaput. Good luck! And if you life in the Southeast, my sympathies to your poor doggie!L.C.

Tried this on my dog that not only has sensitive skin , but also goes insane when bitten by a flea. Scratches and rubs herself raw and hair free in spots all over. Baths and dips made no improvement. Started using this a couple years ago and couldn't be more satisfied. I haven't noticed any side effects and she is significantly more comfortable. I know when its time to retreat. At around 4 weeks ish she is seen beginning to scratch and rub her back on the coffee table again. Retreat and all is good again.Skankhunt42

I have used Fiproguard Max for three years and have been completely satisfied then it was discontinued and replaced with Fiproguard Plus. Thanks to that I have been fighting a flea problem on my dogs and in my house!! Imagine sitting on your couch with your dog and a flea jumps on your arm, then you find them all over your dog! Mad dash to the store to buy (more $$) flea killer shampoos, sprays . Wash the dogs, all the bedding and soft furnishings, spray the house from top to bottom and guess what? In two days they're back! Finally had to get my house fumigated, (more $$) research other flea prevention products (more time) and get my dogs treated with a new product. I am SO mad!! Why on earth did they have to change the formula? BTW I phoned before I ordered the Plus formula to ask that question and asked if it worked as well as the Max but of course all the person knew was what was printed on the product description, well heck I could read that myself , thanks for nothing!AnnW
