After treating an initial infection, I found that a tiny dab of petroleum jelly would help for about 24 hours. That was hard to get into his eye; I was afraid of hurting him with my little tool. I have a Bichon whose tear ducts never developed. The eyes constantly tear, resulting in some very awful tear staining. I have used Angels Eyes for a little over two years now. My dog won't touch the powdered version even when mixed into canned dog food. He thinks the tablets are a treat and cannot wait until the next dose. I have tried both types, the one with the mild anti-biotic and the natural type. I think the anti-biotic type works a little bit better than the natural type, but I don't think it is made any longer. I've used Angel eyes twice over 7 years and it has always worked great for my little 5lb Pappillon. His eyes started weaping again so I first used the powder. I was excited to give these to my dog and help her age gracefully and help keep vision issues at bay. She's not a very picky eater but really doesn't like these. She will occasionally eat one if left out long enough (1 out of every 3 I give her) and the ratio is a little better if I break it open and sprinkle it with bacon grease or something. She will take a bite, spit it out and try again. ..eventually finishing it. My animals tend to get what I call "goopy eyes" from time to time, mostly irritated from hay or just allergies or dust etc. I have used products similar to this in the past. I used this antimicrobial gel to help clear the irritants in their eyes. It worked and seemed to soothe their eyes right after I used it… However, unlike the current product I use, I found myself having to use it again a few hours later because the symptoms had come back. Compared to another brand that I use for the same purpose, I would not switch at this time and would not buy this product. We received this free trial of Vetericyn Antimicrobial Eye Gel for Pets and decided to test it on our 3 year old English Shepherd, Cooper. Cooper's favorite past time is running through long grasses in our field, which seem to cause him to get eye goobers. Cooper was very unhappy to get the eye gel drops and we often used 2 or 3 times more product than needed since so much ended up on his face and muzzle. Despite the challenges we faced when applying the eye gel, we were happy with the results. After 2 days of 2 applications each, Cooper's eye goobers had disappeared. My bulldog's eyes has improved 90% since I have been using it. I still might have to get Cryosurgery for his eyes. not sure though if I have to mix a new solution daily or can I just use the same mixed solution until it is gone. My dog began to experience squinting, runny eyes and a swollen inner eye lid that through research I discovered to be called cherry eye. The swollen inner lid covered about 3/4 of his right eye. Eye drops didn't work, nor did salt water eye wash. I decided to try this product along with gentle eye massage therapy (procedure explained/displayed on various sites and on youtube). Use of this product since about 1 week, has eliminated the squinting and greatly diminished eye redness. I am continuing to use it along with the clear eye wash. Both contributing to soothing and healing. His inner eye lid problem has also been corrected through massage, a viable home alternative to surgery.
My dog doesn't mind when I put it on his eyes, so I know it is gentle. The smell is so mild you almost don't smell at all. It seems to be soothing and he knows it's to help him. Our dog seems to like the way it feels in his eyes. He is totally blind but he doesn't try to rub it out, as with other drops that veterinarians have prescribed in the past. In fact at morning and night both, he seems to sense when it is time for us to put in his drops. He starts barking at us when it's time and bumps his way into the kitchen, where we usually apply them. Since my dog hasn't had a history with this, and doesn't seem to have seasonal allergies, the vet suggested an antimicrobial for the eye irritation and I went with this ophthalmic gel based on the luck I've had with other Vetericyn products in the past. I started with a tiny drop on the corner of my dog's eye to be sure he wouldn't have any reaction to it. Later that day, I went ahead and applied a few drops in each of his eyes. I applied the gel two times a day for three days in a row and by the fourth day his eyes had stopped having discharge. It is almost like my dog knew the drops would make him feel better as he kept his head very still when I applied the gel to his eyes. The shape of the dispenser where you squeeze the product out of makes it very easy to apply the gel to their eyes. While it is a "gel," it comes out of the dispenser fairly quickly which I find allows for an accurate application. The gel-like substance is great to confirm that you got the gel where you want it to go. Went out one morning and caught a glimpse of what looked like a little scratch on my horses eye. Upon inspection the eye itself was untouched but the eyelid was cut about an inch long from the back corner towards the front. I cleaned it and figured I would just leave it alone. The next morning it was itchy and irritating her and REALLY swollen. I cleaned her up, applied the Vetericyn ophthalmolic gel, and put a patch over her eye to keep her from rubbing it and repeated this 4 times that day and removed the patch that evening to let it air. By the next morning all the swelling had completely subsided and it was no longer irritating her! This product helped me when my dog had an eye wart. The vet said it did not need to be removed until it got to the point that he was scratching at it or it started to affect his vision. My dog is a senior dog experiencing joint issues. She was in past bit by a tick that was infected so, vet did say she can expirence pain and issues in joints. Before taking the senior hemp she was mainly laying down sleeping, would only get up to eat or walk out back door for bathroom time. I went with the senior strength HempMobility simply because it had a higher concentration of active ingredients and I went with this company after trying a few other glucosamine/chondroitin supplements that my dog wouldn't eat and having a Registered Vet Tech recommend it. My little man has luxating patella and often limps, but refuses to stop. He's only 3, but I'm hoping to preserve as much joint mobility as we can for as long as we can. Our dog Petal was diagnosed with PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy) when she was 5 years old. This disease usually starts in dogs who inherit it when they are between 4 and 6 years old. We were told there was nothing we could do about it and that she would be completely blind in about 1 year, 2 at the very most. We immediately started giving her Ocu-GLO and have given it to her every day since she was diagnosed. Her vision did indeed decline but much much slower than predicted. When she was 10 years old she still had some sight and it's only been in this past year (her 12th) that her vision has gotten drastically worse.. Even still, she's not totally blind. I don't know if Ocu-GLO had anything to do with this, but we felt it was worth trying and we continue to give it to her for overall eye health, including cataracts and possible inflammation from other issues. I recommend it to anyone who has a dog with PRA and would like a shot to preserve their vision for as long as possible.Susan
We have a 6.5 year old Brussels Griffon that has had a run of bad luck! She fell down a set of 3 stairs last October of 2013 and as a result, broke her elbow. After surgery and 3 casts with Dr. Dew an orthopedic surgeon, she is able to walk again. Her missing the stairs had me concerned about her eyesight so during the healing process, I found an ophthalmologist to examine her. Dr. Miller, stated that she did in fact have the onset of cataracts and that could have contributed to the fall however she also had retinal deterioration so she wasn't a good candidate for cataract removal. At his recommendation, we ordered Ocu-Glo RX and started taking the pills immediately. After 3 months we returned to see Dr. Miller and weren't given much hope but he said to continue taking the Ocu-Glo. We returned again for our 6 month check up and again, much of the same. "Keep doing what you're doing". Very disappointing news… However, yesterday we went for our 9 month checkup and were told that both eyes were developing cataracts and one was already very visible and he suspected the other one would be visible quite soon. Hello. My son's pit King, stays downstairs with me. Follows me everywhere, sleeps with me, he has been the best companion, and yes he even talks "smack" back to me if he doesn't get his own way. My dog is a white chihuhua/terrier mix. He loves the sun. He can spend the entire day laying on the sun. He has one eye patch (brown fur around the eye) and one eye is white. The white eye gets sun burned. It gets really red, my doggie paws at it, and within a day he has an infection. Antibiotics ointment helps, but then he goes on the sun again and it starts all over. The doggles would be a perfect solution, except he hates it. When I tried to put it on him a few times, he was following me like a shadow pushing his head to my feet until I removed them. Overall, I think it's a good idea and the product is of a decent quality and price. Be aware – if your dog tries to take paw it off – the glass is easily scratched.dobbies
I have been taking little friends (dogs) out for hikes and climbs for years without glasses or goggles, expecting them to do without when I wore protective eye wear. This year I wanted to tackle Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, and Glacier Peak with the dog as a companion. Initially he hated the goggles and tried to shake them off (successfully off the eyes, but they rotate around the neck). After a couple of tries to put them back on, he figured out they actually helped with the high UV on the glaciers. Although he seemed to think I was torturing him with the goggles, they worked! Excellent product. Lenses pop out extremely easy if scratched, but real secure otherwise. If any dog owner is outside and concerned about their eyes, this product is an excellent way to protect their companion's eyes as well. Wish I had know about this product earlier.
