A lot of my golden retriever friends have Pet GPS tracking devices for their pets but since I am a stay at home dog mom and my dog is never far from my side I didn't see the need for the expense but I was quite interested in trying out this Smarter Pet Tag from Pawscout. There is no cost other than the price of the tag itself and if you choose to purchase the nameplate that includes your pet's name, phone number and scannable QR Code (they give a $2 discount upon set up of tag) and setting this up for the first time is extremely easy, the tag itself "walks" you through each step. The tag comes with a battery already installed and a back up one and also different style cover plates you put around the smart tag itself. Once you have linked the tag you just set up your pet's profile which allows for you to list basic info along with a medical profile which includes your pet's medications and any behavioral concerns. At any given time you can see how far your pet is away from your smartphone and you can even enable the "leash" which will tell you if your pet leaves and if you have a Google Fit you can give it access to the Pawscout App to track walks. It will let you know if they are in a 300ft radius in all directions of you. It really gives me and my wife peace of mind when we are camping our letting our dogs hike off leash with us. The beauty of this smart tracker is there are NO monthly fees! Zero! How it works is if your pet is lost it sends out an alert to everyone with the pawscout app in a five mile radius of you. If your pet shows up in their radius you get an alert! So the key is to get as many people in your community to download the app. It's free and it creates a safeguard around your community. We posted in a neighborhood group about it and have a lot of people with the app, even those without pets. My wife accidentally threw away the instructions and even without them it was SUPER easy to get up and running. You just download the app and it walks you through the process. Also you can weave the tracker on your pets collar so it will absolutely not fall off! Overall this is a great idea and the best part is no monthly fees. It gives you a peace of mind without costing monthly/annual fees.GJDen

It is not very often you get surprised with great service and price, but I did when making a purchase from Outdoor Dog Supply. It was only some dog tags, but they were made and shipped out almost the same day and you cannot beat the price. This place has their act together. WILL BE USING AGAIN.Lance

This is the second time that we have ordered reflective collars with name plates from Outdoor Dog Supply. I would like to start by saying that the name plates are great and they do not fade after time (and we’ve really put them to the test over the last year!) The reflective collars are equally as great, when the flash light hits them in the dark, they just light up. After upgrading to a new remote training system, I had to order new reflective collars with name plates to fit the new remote training system. I had to call Outdoor Dog Supply twice to ask questions about the different sized reflective collars as I was unsure of the fit with the new remote training system. Their customer service is spectacular and they really go above and beyond to help you and you simply cannot beat their prices. We would highly recommend Outdoor Dog Supply and their products!Laura B

Love! We got this for 2 reasons- one, Schatzi's tags were loud in our apartment hallways early in the morning. But the main reason is that my parent's dog is OBSESSED with shiny things, anything light reflects off of. It's a problem. And Schatzi has very nice shiny tags. The Pet Tag Silencer Quiet Spot is the hardest item to find locally at petstores in San Francisco. It's rumored that the company stopped making them — No one knows why. So, luckily BaxterBoo had a couple I purchased for current doggie clients staying over the holidays. Not only do they keep the doggie tags from driving me crazy, they look great on the dogs. I have a therapy dog and I wanted to silence her dog tags when we walked through the hospitals, so I purchased this product with high hopes. The first issue was that the silencer is made to fit tags that are circular and does not fit tags that are bone shaped or rectangular. When I finally was able to squeeze the 2 tags into the silencer, it made my dogs collar heavy. She hated it and would put it in her mouth and try to tear it off. Since my dog is short and little, the silencer got dirty whenever she went outside. Also, the crisscross way to put the silencer on with Velcro does not allow all of the Velcro to be covered, so my dogs fur ended up caught in it. I tried this product on several different occasions and it was a disappointing failure for a small dog.Penny

This product does exactly what it claims to do, which I love. It keeps my big kitty from eating my little kitty’s food. This allows me to keep my fat cat on a strict diet and monitor exactly how much and what kind of food she is consuming. It does work. I just have 2 difficulties with it. 1. I can program it to stay closed always, until my small kitty approaches for food (if I put a collar on my small kitty). OR I can program it to stay open until my big kitty comes sniffing around (if I put a collar on my big kitty). Small cats is sensitive and skittish, big cat is brazen. So I put the collar on the big cat and have it set to be open unless the big cat comes near. Unfortunately, this means that every 16 hours, the feeder will warn me that my small kitty hasn’t eaten. It doesn’t detect the small cat because I don’t put a collar on the small cat. So every 16 hours, the cat feeder beeps loudly 3 times, every 5-10 mins, until you hit the check mark button on the machine. I have a variable schedule, meaning that I get woken up occasionally at night because of the “your small cat hasn’t eaten in 16 hours” alarm. Not great. My second and more significant qualm is how bright the lights are. IF the beep alarm is going off, the entire screen turns bright blue, which has woken me up several times, in conjunction with the simultaneous beeping. Even if no notification is happening, the blue light around the button (that is always lit) is crazy bright, and I have to cover it up with a cloth or item of clothing, nightly. I like the product, but they need to allow for more specific settings on sounds and lights. A “sleep mode” with a timer would even work. Like phones have. Technology is great, but not when you’re trying to sleep.Mary H.

We bought 2 PortionPros for our 3 cat household because one of our kitties was turning in to a fat cat. We have a female (fat cat), an older male who was under weight, and a kitten. Fat cat would eat the kitten food and hog the regular food from our male cat. We purchased two feeders, one for the kitten food and one for the regular food. We put the sensor only on fat cat and have the regular food feeder on a portion schedule and have the kitten food feeder closed to fat cat. The older male and kitten can eat freely from both. As a result, fat cat has trimmed down after only a couple months and our male has been able to gain some weight (as he often eats from the kitten food). It wasn’t hard to set up if you follow directions. The only criticism I have is the noise when the door opens and closes (as it does often when fat cat walks by the kitten food feeder), which is somewhat loud. We have gotten used to it over time but an improvement in the mechanics to make that quieter would be good.Kayla

We Love, Love, Love our PortionPro Feeders! We bought two for our cats. One each. I highly recommend this feeder. I don’t typically do reviews, but in this case I will because we are so well pleased. We bought the machines in March of 2020. Our cats were almost 4 years old at this time and had never used a “feeder” before. We fed them in the morning and in the evening. So, in setting up the PortionPro Feeders, we followed the Recommendation for cats of 6 meals/day. We also set the machines in “Open Door” Mode so the door wouldn’t be opening and closing so much. Our Indoor Only cats had never worn collars, and I thought this might be a difficult change. Surprisingly each cat adapted very well to the collars and the machines. In the beginning both cats were perplexed and scared of the doors, because they were opening and closing all the time when the feeders were releasing a meal into the food tray, and when the “unassigned” cat approached the other cat’s feeder. There was a big learning curve for them, but I was pleased and relieved when the cats figured out these machines feed them 6 times a day, and they couldn’t get hurt. We are now 7 months into using these machines. I don’t know who’s happier … the cats or us. They get to eat more frequent and on time. After their morning meal we take off their collars which have the “assignment tags” on them and put the collars back on them at night. They definitely have learned these collars control the machine. We have left the collars on for days at a time, but we personally prefer to take the collars off when we are home to watch the cats during feeding time. If we aren’t the collars go on. If not … one cat will steal the other cats meal if given the chance. Every time. If you leave the collars off too long, the machine, for the cat’s safety, will let you know that it hasn’t detected the cat in 16 hours. When I needed the PortionPro Support Teams help they were readily available and helpful! That’s a big deal in this day and age. A company who highly believes and stands behind their product and easily available to help me, learn how to use these machines. I’m not a technical person, so I had a learning curve with these machines. One of our cats has discovered that it can gently paw for a few more pieces of food before the door is activated to shut because of this. I learned that he was “stealing from his next meal” rather than getting additional food. That is fine. He still gets the recommended amount for the day. In Summary, our cats are much more playful, happy, and interactive with us since using these PortionPro Feeders. I know these machines don’t have a battery back up in case the power goes out. I wish they did, however I’m so grateful I learned about this machine. I’ll buy a battery backup to use for times for when we go out of town for a short period of time. We have had the power go out for a very short time twice since using these machines. We didn’t have any problems with the feeders starting back up and working correctly. I do Highly recommend these feeders. They cost more than I would want, but I would buy them again because the machines have been worth it. This tag is NOT as it shows in the picture. The ends have a gap. So you CAN use it with a snap collar. Its also bigger than advertised. I got the smallest one thats supposed to fit a 3/8in, its 1/2in instead. The engraving is nice. But thats all. It looks nothing like the picture.annrothhaa0

This is my second tag for my lil' girl. The first one is a hanging tag with information on both sides, with her rabies tag, and city license tag. This one is for another collar that fits her "glitzy" smaller collar and matches the color it perfectly. Love that it doesn't dangle, and is more tailored. Both fits its purpose.Barbara M.

Unfortunately haven’t been able to use the tags b/c I hadn’t realized that they only work on collars that operate like a belt buckle (where you can slide on the tag) vs the click-together kind. There’s no way to get this on the kind of collar we use. I’m bummed b/c the promise of no jingling was great. So consider what type of collar you’re putting the tag on first. This was my 2nd tag. Got this 1 for a friend's dog. Pink one, cool color for sweet little Callie, added "Service Dog" on the 2nd line. Put it on a black collar…looks great. Also, can be seen easily. My 1 year 110 lb pup "Bubba" travels all over 14 acres of woodland pasture-like property and his tag though battered 'n bruised but is still completely legible. Will get another if this one ever breaks down. Only suggestion: more color selections in the open-ended version.Derek C.

Absolutely the worst app I’ve tried to use ever. The app kept forcing me to the login page when I didn’t have a login yet and when I tried to create new account it kept telling me an account already existed with my email which I had already entered but the email that was sent to me just lead me in a round robin to login! THEN as if that wasn’t bad enough, when I tried to fill out my profile it wouldn’t let me save my info because it says the date of birth field is required but it’s combined with the address line 1! I tried to put my DOB in the address line 1 and my address in line 2 but it still keeps telling me DOB is required. Also, you have to scroll through 10k countries before you can find your time zone and again to find your actual country. You cannot type in the first few letters of your country to have it jump to your country. It has taken the better part of my day to get it working and I still can’t save my profile so no one will be able to contact me if they find my dog. So cute but… I bought the tag in the hopes that it would work as a silencer between multiple tags. The tag is really cute but unfortunately the way it fastens to the loop it does not hang well with any additional tags such as the required rabies vaccination tag. The tag I got for my dog, Chester, not only suits his personality but I love how quiet it is. It is legible from a distance as well. I’ve had dogs all my life. Every metal tag I’ve gotten has come off never to be seen again. I never thought these would work and that they’d tear easily. I was sooooo wrong.
