This was a life saver. My pug is 15 and needs help getting up and down from couch. It has 3 positions so it is not steep for an older dog to use. It is ready to use right out of the box. Looks like a nice piece of furniture. It is not to long and can be used in the smallest spaces. The carpet like material on the ramp, also has slip resistant material on it (like what is on the bottom of socks). The dogs love it and it does not bother their feet. When going down the ramp, they can go as slow as needed and not slide down. I highly recommend this product. It will not work with really high beds or trucks unless you add to it. But it is perfect for anything else including cars (if needed) It is very light and easy to move around. It is very sturdy and does not move when dogs are using it. Even my younger dog loves it and she is scared of everything. The first day we got it we used treats to get them to use it. I only took a few minutes and they loved it. We had foam stairs before this but my older dog was still having issues using it. Because of the material of the stairs, when going down, it would force her to go fast and slide. This does not do that and allows them to go as slow as possible (I know I repeated this but it truly makes a difference for an older or injured dog/cat.)Nic

Just perfect. I have two older dogs who can now only enter and exit my station wagon via a ramp. I had a nice older ramp of thick plastic of some kind, but it was getting very heavy for me, an older person too, to deal with. The Solvit Telescoping ramp is fabulously lightweight. I actually look forward to the car outings rather than dreading it. Besides being light, the telescoping aspect is very easy to use. Some of the reviews said large dogs could not deal well with the sandpaper-like surface of the ramp (which adds makes the ramp so light to handle), but I find that towels or small rugs adhere very firmly to the sandpaper surface and give the dogs traction and confidence. The only problem I've experienced is the ramp blowing down in high wind. Now on windy days I park directly into the wind for loading and unloading of the dogs. Works fine. I highly recommend. This ramp really is light weight! It is easy to fold and lift into the back of my Honda CRV. Dog liked it with a little treat training and went right up it to her crate. It is shorter than some ramps, so would be steep if the rear of your car is very high. It is a bit awkward once it is folded UNLESS you use the safety lock on the side. This is a well built sturdy ramp and a good value. The only thing we didn't like is the surface is still slippery even with the yellow rubber grip strips. We made it MUCH better by covering the entire ramp surface with black ultra grip shelf liner material and we simply used spray adhesive and put 2 layers of the shelf liner on the ramp for a SUPER grippy, soft walking surface for our 13 year old lab. When we first bought the ramp she freaked because she slid up and down the ramp, now she confidently walks up and down it with ease. My 110lb dog has a degenerative neurological condition that has been impacting his control of his back legs, in particular. We have to drive him to grassy spots for walks because he drags his back feet and this ramp has worked wonders in helping us get him in and out of the car. It's sturdy enough that he feels comfortable using it and super lightweight and easy to fold. Just purchased this for my 70 pound elderly dog who has difficulty getting into and out of the car. I would have loved to keep this because of how well it was made, but it just didn't fit into the door opening of our new Equinox. Unfortunately the door didn't open wide enough. Also it wasn't long enough to use in the back lift gate. It was just too steep. Would be great in a regular car, but SUV's seem to be too far off the ground.Jodi
This is a nice sturdy ramp. I believe it may work well for vans but, with both of our cars (Chevy Malibu and Nissan Altima) the ramp does not have a level place to set it on. I had been looking and researching for something for my two dogs that are 11 years in age and having trouble getting on and off our bed. I knew stairs wasn't an option so I got one of these wood bedside ramps and I absolutely love it. I like the ribbed carpet that covers it and that makes my dogs feel more secure when using it. I like how it is angled to run the length of my bed and having a tall bed isn't an issue since it has a height of 25 inches. It was very easy to assemble only took me a few minutes and all hardware for assembly was included. It is very easy to keep clean and I can easily move it into our living room during the day so my dogs can have access to the couch if needed. The weight limit is 120 lbs so I dont worry about it tipping over when my dogs are running up and down. The only thing is on wood floors, it will slide as in our living room, but we use a blanket underneath it and this sovled the problem. As long as it helps my dogs and gives them the ability to continue living a easy life, it is well worth it. The instructions for assembling the ramp were easy to follow, but I would prefer less assembling. The ramp seems very sturdy, especially for my 10-pound dog. He has no problem going up, but is hesitant coming down. With some treats placed on the ramp, he walked down without hesitation. We needed a ramp for our dog after he had surgery. He could no longer jump in and out of our Jeep. This ramp has been fantastic. My husband is an engineer and says that this ramp is well-engineered, that someone was thinking when they designed it. It's very easy to use- just folds in half and has a clip that automatically keeps it folded when not being used. You do have to watch your fingers both opening and closing it but you would have to do this with any folding object. It is very sturdy. Our dog loves the green "astroturf" as it gives him firm footing, no sliding at all. After going up and down it a few times he is now completely at ease doing so. The other great thing is that there is a softer rubber underside to the top part, that you rest on your car, so that it doesn't slide around, it stays put. There is also a hook that you can attach to the fastener on your car's floor that holds it even more securely. We used it at first but now feel confident on where we rest the ramp on the car, that it won't move. Can’t say enough about this ramp! Perfect size and incline to use in my Chevy Equinox. My Golden retriever got used to it very quickly. This is great- love how it could be a ramp or stairs. It could be a little higher with the ramp side, however the stairs work good for now with my little dog. I think the ramp is great if they have hip issues just like I said could be a little higher like the stairs are. The only thing I any not impressed with is that it only comes with one set of the sticky nonslip pads and they aren’t al that great at sticking to the bottom of the sides if you move it because of picking it up to clean the area underneath it- they call off. I wish this product would’ve came with either extra sets of those sticky nonslip stickers, or were already glued on to them legs and sides that would slide on the floor- better yet if they legs and sides were built with a nonslip think on them. These steps are not worth the price of free. They are incredibly cheaply made of thick cardboard, not even wood. The corner was broken off out of box, the legs do not clip on, it chips easily so when you pick it up they fall out. We bought these stairs to help our senior dogs. Our oldest is 13 pounds and 13 years old . Our youngest is 85 pounds and 7 years old. Our bed is high and the smallest dog wanted on and off the bed constantly. He is now able to get on and off by himself. The bigger dog use to leap onto the bed no problem. She is showing signs of struggle so we invested in these stairs! The stairs do flip to the other side as a ramp. But, I do not like the ramp as it is too steep! Both of the dogs refuse to use it! My older dog has significant pain in her hips and doesn't have a lot of strength in her rear legs. She can't handle narrow steps and doesn't trust ramps, this was large enough and stable enough for her to use with relative ease. It fit nicely between driver seat and back passenger seat of my old Volvo. As I assume like most purchasers, our dog has gotten older and is having trouble getting into the back of our car. The length of this ramp appealed to me. It makes the incline a bit less. You do need just a little more room to deploy the ramp but we have her enter from the back of the vehicle so it's not a problem. If it were a side door, steps may work best. It has a clip at the top to hold it to the car. This turned out to be important when she decided half way up the first time to jump down. It does require a bit of training I have found out. It folds in half and has a latch to keep it that way, plus a nice carrying handle. Yes, storage is a factor but I knew that going in. I rigged a strap to hold it to the side of the cargo area (inside). When I use it for the side door of our pickup truck, it does not work quite as well. The door is just a bit in the way and she doesn't like the fact that it is not a straight shot into the vehicle. Evaluate for yourself and for your situation. If I were to get another one for a side door, I might consider steps. For the back, this works well. It is plastic with a sandpaper feel to the surface for traction. One reviewer said it was hard on their feet but we only use this 2 – 4 times per day so it has not been a problem. It supports her weight (about 90 lbs.) just fine.Rumpelstiltskin

This was a life saver. My pug is 15 and needs help getting up and down from couch. It has 3 positions so it is not steep for an older dog to use. It is ready to use right out of the box. Looks like a nice piece of furniture. It is not to long and can be used in the smallest spaces. The carpet like material on the ramp, also has slip resistant material on it (like what is on the bottom of socks). The dogs love it and it does not bother their feet. When going down the ramp, they can go as slow as needed and not slide down. I highly recommend this product. It will not work with really high beds or trucks unless you add to it. But it is perfect for anything else including cars (if needed) It is very light and easy to move around. It is very sturdy and does not move when dogs are using it. Even my younger dog loves it and she is scared of everything. The first day we got it we used treats to get them to use it. I only took a few minutes and they loved it. We had foam stairs before this but my older dog was still having issues using it. Because of the material of the stairs, when going down, it would force her to go fast and slide. This does not do that and allows them to go as slow as possible (I know I repeated this but it truly makes a difference for an older or injured dog/cat.)Nic

My wife brought this home years ago, and I was skeptical at first. However, it has been a godsend getting our Lab in and out of our auto. This is my second time buying the extra large Solveit Ramp. My 74kg Mastiff used his last ramp everyday for four years going to and from work and off roading on the weekends and it was still working well, until I drove over it accidentally and squished it! It is light weight for me to lift and whilst scratches developed from my dogs nails over time on the surface, the surface still never lifted or pealed off and worked a treat. Our first ramp was used at full extension to get our dog in and out of a 4wd with a lift kit and large off road tyres, it got extremely hot, wet and muddy yet never twisted or buckled. I've only had it about a month but it is exactly what I needed. I like that it is fiberglass so I can leave it outside in the weather where I park my SUV. It seems durable and well made. The ramp grip material is very well adhered to the ramp. That and the fact that it is reasonably wide give the dogs a feeling of safety and control when using it. I don't expect the construction or grip material to deteriorate much over time. The ramp adjusts easily (by extentention, not by folding like some models) but stays as adjusted once you find the extension that works for you. Although I'm working with the dogs on an "exiting routine" (we just switched from a truck where the door opened and they could immmediately jump out), they took to the ramp with minimal training. As far as construction goes, this seems to be sturdy. It's plenty strong enough to hold my 105lb. dog. My only complaint in construction is that there is no lock to hold it open or closed. It just slides out and back in. Seems like it might be a little more secure with some kind of lock mechanism.My dog had no problem walking back and forth on it flat on the floor. The first time I tried to use it to get him in the back of my Jeep, though, he went up kind of tentatively, and he ended up sliding back down. It was a little too steep and he just couldn't grip in spite of the sandpaper-type surface. After that he didn't want to try again.So, I set it again the couch so it was at a lower angle, and we spent several days just having him walk up and down it between the floor and the couch. After that, we spent another several days with it on some carpeted stairs, bribing him to run up and down it to get food. After he got comfortable with that, we tried the car again. I still have to support him a little on the way up so he doesn't slide back, but it's definitely easier than trying to lift him to put him in the back of the truck! We have three dogs who don't really like jumping into the rear of our SUV so we thought we would try this ramp. One dog is a little over 150 lbs and we didn't know if this ramp could hold it. After a bit of coaxing the big dog used the ramp and after a few ups and downs uses it confidently. The ramp is strong, sturdy, and has a nice sandpaper like finish that gives the dogs traction. I doubt this would work for a car door, as I don't think the door would open enough, but it works great in a vehicle with a rear hatch.ForestJohn
