Wish it came in a larger diameter, but I think the 38 will work for now. The puppy will only be about 4 pounds when I get her but will grow to be 8-10 pounds, so the pen should give her enough room to play until she is trained. I also like that it has a zippered top that can be taken off while inside or zipped on if outside because she is small enough to become prey to hawk, owls, or coyotes. Also like the pockets, the tote bag, and the fact that it is so light weight.
I purchased the play pen for my 10 week old chihuahua. I am pleased that it gives him plenty of space for a bed, a potty pad, a wooden table for food and water, and still plenty of space for him to play with toys. I am using the play pen when I need to be gone for any amount of time. I also purchased a crate at our local store for him to use at night. He seems to like being in the play pen. I know my cat appreciates having the house to herself when he is in it. The two are still working on sharing a home and myself. They are doing well considering it has only been 10 days. I feel that any breed that is bigger then a toy/miniature would be better in a bigger,sturdier enclosure. I think that this would also work for cats/kittens while house training. I am looking forward to fall and being able to move it back and forth from inside and outside. It will provide a safe place so he is able to enjoy spending time outdoors and getting fresh air. I bought the pink one for my 3 month old American cocker spaniel and it was definitely not a good choice. It's cute and the color is nice but it's too easy for the sides to cave in and if your dog or cat is super crazy, they can actually move this around the floor like a hamster ball. This is probably fine for small, inactive puppies, dogs, kittens or cats. It's spacious enough for a sedentary furry friend. My hyperactive little terror sunk her teeth into the mesh sides and started pulling it apart. She also figured out how to unzip it. I would not recommend it.kejean12

Got it when it was 20 bucks cheaper. But it came early and was easy to set up. Reason for purchase is becuase I will be out of state for the summer and the person whom will be babysitting doesnt want her on the sofa and using the bathroom on the floor. My active Doberman is recovering from a spinal injury and needs to be confined. This pen is perfect. The quality is top-notch, with plenty of clear and illustrated instructions that are really not even necessary as it's so simple to set up. My one and only quibble is that the box opened nearly the full length of the side during shipping. I think the packing tape gave way. All parts were intact and nothing was damaged so just FYI. I'm now going to buy another one of these for the back yard. I was going to transport this one in and out rather than spend the money since it's (I'm hoping) not a life-long need, but while it's so easy to fold and move, it is pretty heavyweight (42") so it'd be a bit of a chore for me to do often. She's never been a jumper, especially not now, and I don't leave her alone outside so I could easily go with a lower height that's less expensive and more portable (keep in the shade) for the yard.jacy
I ordered several of these to use as barriers to prevent my young Border Collie from running through the mud in our back yard after it rains. I have used kennels in the past without the grid flooring and I will not do that again. We bought this due to the fact that our little guy will have times when we have to be away and can't be there to take him out frequently. I could not stand the thought of him sitting in where he had relieved himself and then having to clean him and the cage before we could even play after being away all day. I bought him a little bed to go in one side and the other side is open so he can relieve himself. Being 7 weeks old I was not sure he would figure this out so soon, but Boston's are smart. I work the night shift on weekends and this is a MUST. We bought the bowls that attach to the side so he has water and some hard food and he gets out of his bed, goes and relieves himself and then climbs back in the bed to play and nap. I have Midwest pens and Precision pens. I apparently did not read all that was included and ordered two pans to go under the 48 x 48 pen. I was surprised when there were two pans in with the initial puppy pen order. I also did not realize when ordering a pan, I got two and not just one. So my order of pans came separately which included two pans each. I did not need the additional 4 pans and got a Return Authorization to return them. However shipping was $66.00 and I paid about $70 for the two sets of pans so did not return them and have no idea what to do with them now. Very frustrating.LJDTB

I bought this because I’m staying with my sister temporarily and have 2 dogs. I used to live in an apartment with wood floors and apparently, my dogs don’t like carpet. This kennel is extra large and wonderful to hold their bed and then room for training pads. The tray on the bottom is metal and very sturdy. We are loving this as an option. The Cons….Metal tray is not as large as the crate—so we have some wetting outside the tray. ( boy dog) The handles —-one was broken off when arrived. It is not welded very well. Seemed like a really good solution for my lab mix whose afraid of storms but in her 1st night I didn’t get any sleep when I laid down. The lifting of the cage walls( they are not secured to the bottom in any way at all and sit around the cage bottom that is about an inch in space on all sides from the cage bars). A stand up, and a simple push was all it too for her to get free the 1st time. 2nd attempt, I secured here cage in the corner of a room with my stationary exercise bike pinning it in a corner. Bloody mouth, paws and less than 10 minutes later 8 had to let her out. She bent the bars inward as they aren’t as strong as they look. Heavy duty is an understatement. Could not return it since it’s technically used, but this was the 1st day I used it. Total waste of my money. Love that’s it’s washable. I got the medium and it’s a great size. Good for in and out doors. I know some said for indoors the dogs would flip it. Which I have a 4lb puppy that does just that. I love everything about this dog pen, except that one of the panels was missing the upper hinge. I did not want the hassle and wastefulness of returning the entire large and heavy item. I tried to see if I could just get a single replacement panel, but I don't know how to do that. I guess I will just keep it and only use 7 of the panels *Sigh* (If anyone can get a single panel replacement – please let me know!) The raised gate is perfect for not rubbing on the floor and scratching it up. the panels are not too heavy I could construct the pen easily. I love that there are different shapes that you can make with the panels, depending on your space available. The height and sturdiness of the panels is just right for a medium to medium large dog.Barbara

But, if you are planning any meaningful puppy playdate, you will need minimum 2 sets, most likely 3or 4. do NOT use for kittens. i brought one for my kitten and he's now known as the escaping. he climbed and jumped over the gate. when i fixed that, he twisted his head and got through one of the holes. i fixed that as well and he's still somehow getting out. if you are wondering how i "fixed" that, i used mesh wiring. this product probably works great with dogs, but cats are a different story.uzziah
