My dog went a few days with excessive "goop" from his eyes. Since my dog hasn't had a history with this, and doesn't seem to have seasonal allergies, the vet suggested an antimicrobial for the eye irritation and I went with this ophthalmic gel based on the luck I've had with other Vetericyn products in the past. I started with a tiny drop on the corner of my dog's eye to be sure he wouldn't have any reaction to it. Later that day, I went ahead and applied a few drops in each of his eyes. I applied the gel two times a day for three days in a row and by the fourth day his eyes had stopped having discharge. It is almost like my dog knew the drops would make him feel better as he kept his head very still when I applied the gel to his eyes. The shape of the dispenser where you squeeze the product out of makes it very easy to apply the gel to their eyes. While it is a "gel," it comes out of the dispenser fairly quickly which I find allows for an accurate application. Upon inspection the eye itself was untouched but the eyelid was cut about an inch long from the back corner towards the front. I cleaned it and figured I would just leave it alone. The next morning it was itchy and irritating her and REALLY swollen. I bought this for my 3.5 yo who most likely got pink eye from the pool she had been taking swimming lessons in. Before putting this in her eye, she hadn’t reach the stage of puss or watery eye. However, when she woke up the next morning her eye didn’t show any improvement. She now had discharge. She was probably rubbing her face back and forth on her pillow, not helping the situation but I knew it was going to be difficult for her not to rub her eye when it was itchy. I ended up taking my kiddo to the doctor and they prescribed an ointment type medication that made a difference right away and you could see that the ointment was on her eye. *The doctor also mentioned that with the medication she wouldn’t be contagious after 24 hours.
