Routine pre op lab work showed elevated liver enzymes, Orie, our 11 year old standard dachshund 34 lbs. Vet recommended Vetri-Liver. Completed 60 day regimen. Retested, enzymes normal. Orie's general well being improved to the point that he seems much younger and energetic than 11 year old. He is also on Alaskan Salmon Oil for his coat and joint health. His Opthalmologist concurred it was a great idea. My vet recommended this because of my dog's high ALT & ALKP blood levels(indicating liver issues). I give him a tablet daily. They're supposed to be chewable but he doesn't WANT to chew them, so I have to crush them up in some soft tasty food – problematic, seeing as he's supposed to tack his dose on an empty stomach for better absorption, but I suppose it's better than him not eating it at all. I also give him Hepato Support, so one way or another I assume he's getting helpful levels of the active ingredients. I honestly am not sure what to put for the value because it's rather costly & it's really hard to say what effect it's having – my dog's levels are still high, but they haven't gotten higher since we put him on the supplements. I was kind of hoping the levels would go DOWN back into normal range.trilln451
My 12 year old chihuahuas liver blood work came back very very high so her vet put her on Denamarin. When we did her follow up blood work 4 months later her numbers tripled. I started looking else where and found these. My adopted beagle had seizure the second day after we brought her home. She was one year old then. We thought it was due to the new environment. Clinic vet prescribe her with only some relaxant medication and vitamins. She continues to have seizure once every few weeks. Till a serious episode in the middle of the night one day made us to bring her to the animal hospital. A thorough check by the vet and after few follow-up check diagnosed her with genetic liver dysfunction and also genetic epilepsy. Her liver reading was far exceeding the normal range. Denosyl had helped to keep her liver at normal range with her seizure medication that is not good for her liver . She is put on long term Denosyl, a pill a day before her l/d diet. She is healthy and active after 2 years now. All of us are happy with this cutie pie at home!
We inherited my mother-in-law's 16-or-so year old cat. He had a history of throwing up but her vet couldn't find anything wrong. After we'd had him for a while he started throwing up more, stopped eating, and became lethargic. Our vet diagnosed liver failure and was not optimistic, but recommended denosyl, which doesn't require a prescription and is relatively cheap. Ever since the cat's been on denosyl, he's been eating like a horse and is much more lively than his age would suggest. I'd recommend this for anyone whose pet has liver problems. It seems to work best when the cat hasn't eaten for at least 4 hours (preferably more) before we give it, then don't feed him for at least an hour after. Shop around because it can be found for a pretty low price. We've been paying about 2/3 what our vet would have charged us.gregwscuba

I got these for my dog as we're doing some training. He's a small dog. 20 pounds at his goal weight. And we had a bit of a scare. Pancreatitis sent us to the vet, after some serious diarrhea. He started having this diarrhea on the day I got these for him. I didn't feed him a ton while training him. But, I just want people to be aware of what can happen with these treats. While I appreciate that chicken hearts are nutritious for dogs, these are so hard as to be unchewable for my small dogs even though they are strong jawed terriers. This is the first time I have purchased them so I can't say whether this is normal for this product. Perhaps a larger dog could swallow them whole but I think they represent a choking hazard for small dogs. My dogs do like the taste so I have been crushing them with a mortar and pestle and adding them to their food.Terri P.

My dog liked it ok but actually likes the beef better. My problem is the packaging. If we buy the small packages it’s more expense and it doesn’t last long( maybe 3 days for my 12 lb dog.( plus kibble). When I buy the large packages -because they are frozen) my husband has to break it apart with a hammer and divide it up to 4 parts and take 1 part out of the freezer at a time. It’s very expensive but because we have a very picky eater ( who almost died about 8 months ago-and she’s not quite 2yrs old now) we are willing to buy your food but would like better packaging. Might I suggest a large package that divides into 4 break apart sections-so you are able to take 1 part out of the freezer at a time without a hammer?!? When I retired I dedicated my life to rescuing adult Pomeranians with liver disease because of the love I had for my very first rescue Pomeranian, Lola. Several months ago, I lost my beloved 2 year old chi'weenie, Snapper, to liver disease. We didn't know he had it until he was in the late stages and nothing could be done to save him. Now I have his little sister, Calibean, 2 years younger than him. (She is named after my son in law, Cal and my daughter whose nickname is Bean. She was a gift from them.) He was deaf and so is she. So I chose to have her tested for liver disease at 3 months and she has it too. My vet prescribed Royal Canine Hepatic dry dog food for her and she is doing wonderfully. She is healthier than he ever was. I could never get him to gain weight or regulate his digestion. She is at normal weight and has more consistent bowel movements than he did. Bottom line….had we known sooner that Snapper was suffering from liver disease, we could have had him on this food. In September, 2012 my 8 year old neutered male Collie began vomiting. Upon examination and bloodwork, it was determined that all his liver values were elavated. He spent 4 days on IV fluids and anitibiotics. He was very sick. He did not improve much in those 4 days so an ultrasound was ordered. It showed extreme liver inflammation. Magic was put on several antibiotics and Denamarin as well as Pepcid. At the end of the 3 week course, his liver values had gone even higher. A liver biopsy was ordered. It was determined that Magic suffered from Idiopathic Hepatitis with Copper Storage Disease. The vet recommended Royal Canin Hepatic Diet as well as continuing with his medications for the rest of his life, which would not be more that 6 to 9 months according to the vet. Well, here it is 2016 and Magic is still with us. He celebrated his 12th birthday March 6th. His liver value are now normal for a dog of his age. He continues to take his 2 antibiotics, Pepcid, and Ursodiol. I will not feed him anything but Royal Canin Hepatic Diet as it was the turning point in his treatment.
